so there might be an incompatibility between corsair and msi ?
hope for a new bios ?
(and latest irst Orom too be added aswell)
-
well, I have all 4 in with no errors now, normal voltages, normal latency on all 4. weird weird weird to say the least, seems the sticks just like certain ports....kinda like us guys huh? im gonna go crazy on games and usage tonight to see how things go..... I will say my SDD score is back to normal with this ram in if that makes any sense, was 6.8 when I got the comp, a couple months ago dropped to 5.9, now its back up to 6.8 oh wells
-
lol yeah weird compatibility, i hope its fixed
i don't plan on overclockign this machine so for myself, the Elixir ram that came in the laptop is 100% compat and fine for gaming,

I'll uploaded it later today after I locate the file on one of my storage drives to my mediafire account and post the link unless januszzbych has another location where his file is?
I use the MSIHQ Tool to update my bios.
EDIT:
Unlocked 1761_30H bios link

uh...whatr unlocked bios? if ya'll dont mind me asking
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
There are options in the bios locked in the one shipped with the machine that can be unlocked to provide more options for tuning.
-
Oh, well shoot I did not know that. So is that something you smart guys recommend? If so, anyone have a link to properly do it? One thing I've never done is BIOS updating.
-
If you have never done it before, don't waste your time. Bios can brick your computer. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
-
Thank you for your reply, and sorry for writing back only now.
First of all, I'd like to say that running laptop on battery has caused no problems, it appears to only use limited amount of power, which makes games unplayable and temperatures relatively low (CPU and GPU run at around 38*C.)
I've stopped using Raid0 array a while back, due to some issues regarding installation of Windows.
Here's some additional information/updates on what I've done:
I noticed that despite clearing out my fan and air vent, temperatures were very high when gaming, and I'm talking about 90*C+ CPU temp, and 70-80*C for GPU. I followed this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZwP3iqjh0I video and disassembled my laptop, took out the heat-sinks only to find that thermal paste has melted off. Here's a picture I took of what it looked like:
. GPU wasn't looking much better. I cleaned everything off and made sure no leftovers are present. After re-applying the paste and putting it all back together, I got the temp down to where it is now, but it did not fix the crashing. Currently, laptop runs below 70*C on both CPU and GPU when gaming. However, using webcam/watching videos appears to crash it too, now.
I will back up my data and attempt to re-install Windows, put newest drivers in and try playing a game.
Any other information and advice is very welcome.
Thank ya'll for your time.

Instead of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" I recommend "nothing ventured, nothing gained".
The official MSI forum claims a 100% success rate using the MSIHQ Tool when updating the bios.
Many things like driver, software and utility updates shouldn't be considered as fixing something that isn't broken but instead as a chance at improving on what is already good.
Updates for the most part increase performance, fix bugs and add support for newer hardware that wasn't in existence when the old version was released. -
what happens if he bricks the laptop tho ?
idk about you but if he wants to try and bricks it, would be nice if MSI has some anti-brick policy for such an event
or like my media streamer, some backdoor to reloading a good bios via usb key. -
WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
The modded bios I posted installs without issue following MSI's instructions.I have it on my machine.
Using unlocked settings in the modded bios is at the users risk.
Why don't we have the same unlocked options in an official MSI bios? You can answer that yourself.
Everything in life is a gamble.
Only death and taxes are sure things. -
I'm adventurous, I'm gonna research into it a bit before just jumping in.
-
so if its an official bios and something goes wrong, bad battery and loss of power then what? -
Well, I just experienced another self power down and reboot.....while watching a movie in media player.....smh...

Does your battery charge normally while on ac power after running it down to about 10% remaining?
Which power mode are you currently using?Power Saving,Balanced,Performance? -
Hello all! Last week I purchased my GT780DX off a friend and I must say.....LOVE IT! Also this forum is by far the best information on this product hands down, thank you all for the advice. I do have a question concerning heat though. My GPU 570m is hitting 91c gaming...is this normal? I've always gamed on a desktop and I'm new to the laptop scene. I have purchased a cooling pad and run the cooler boost option as well and I'm still hitting 88-91c. I also just attempted to air dust as well....tho I'm reading that in order for it to be good I need to take it apart? Any ideas or suggestions that could help cool this beast down a little? Thanks for the help
-
No message, just powers off then reboots, all temps are normal, voltages to power supply are normal, battery functions normal as far as I can tell, charges to 100% I'm usually plugged in but I drain it atleast once a month and I get generally 2-4hrs out of it depending on what im doing. RAM is still testing normal with memtest 86, all the ram info is proper. This is really boggling......its randomness is what kills me, atleast if it was consistent It might be easier to figure out....

Use only the High Performance power mode.
Reinstall the Intel chipset software.
Almost all problems I've encountered on tons of computers in over 30 years have been due to bad drivers or software installations with most being drivers. -
WTP have you heard anything about this motherboard having leaking capacitors?
ShadowGearX: that could be something if it has that problem. or i would just put back the original ram if you still have it, just for testing a few days. -
The first 2 power downs and reboots were with stock RAM, issue happened with stock and the RAM I'm currently using since it tested ok, and it still is. So, I reinstalled the chipset software, and I also did a complete uninstall and downgrade of my Nvidia drivers because honestly, that was the ONLY recent thing I had done before this started was update to the 313.96 Beta drivers (I normally dont bother with Beta) so now all I can do is hope.....I will say whenever I went into this Nvidia control panel with the 313.96 drivers It would hang up for about 40sec before I could do anything, that issue is gone now so....heres to hoping lol

Small FREE program to test if TRIM is working properly on your SSD.
I posted it in the SSD forum.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sol...eck-if-trim-enabled-active-2.html#post9082496 -
hmmmm its telling me my trim is not working? I have no clue what this even means to be honest, this is my first SSD
Edit: I downloaded SSD Scope which is Transcends program for checking their drives and it shows it is enabled and functioning? This SSD stuff confuses me. -
WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
About one minute later run the exe file again. The random hex data consisting of pair of letters and numbers should be changed to 00 00 00 00 00 00 00.....if trim is working.
If your bios is set to raid this probably wont work. -
Yeah, the numbers arent clearing even on a reboot....I'm 99% sure I don't have a raid setup and there is nothing in my BIOS menus for raid at all, pretty minimal what I can change in BIOS.
-
if you just want to know if trim is enabled in windows 7 or 8:
open a cmd window, run (as admin)
type: fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify
If the result is '0' TRIM is enabled.
Type the following command to enable TRIM: “fsutil behavior query|set DisableDeleteNotify = 0″
and other basic SSD best practices: http://blog.ocztechnology.com/?p=178 -
Yeah its enabled, shows its enabled in SSD Scope and I checked in CMD Window, I'm not worried. Comp seems ok so far......keeping fingers crossed

hi welcome, if you want to clean it inside, no need to remove the heatsinks to clean, this means no redoing thermal paste.
I'd start with that and if temps don't improve then i'd consider redoing the thermal paste. there's a discussion about that in the last 5 pages. -
Welcome Welcome, I personally would be lost without all the awesome people and information in this thread! I would def start with just removing the bottom panel and hitting it with air, just be careful no liquid comes out of those cans. I personally use my air compressor to blow out dust, those cans of air are way to pricey and I personally don't think they work that well. Those temps are a bit high, I have the GT783 w/ a 580M and the highest I hit is 81 with Crysis 2 on Ultra settings, Skyrim on ultra I hit between 65-72, StarCraft 2 I hit 70-78, and the witcher 2 I usually hit between 74-80. Not sure about the temps on a 570m but I'm sure they should not be that high.
Also, does your cooling pad Push air up or does it pull air down? I think the GT780 and the GT783 are the same in this regard but my 783 pulls air in from the bottom so I had to get a cooler that pushes the air up into it. Maybe your cooler is pulling the air instead of pushing and forcing higher temps? Just a thought for ya that some people might not consider ya know?Hope it helps!

The SSD firmware must be able to do it.
On my SanDisk Extremes the registry showed trim enabled with firmware 5.02 but in fact trim was not working with this firmware version Firmware 5.04 fixed the no trim problem.
This utility shows files written onto the SSD and proves trim is actually working not just that it's enabled.

That being said, then my trim is not functioning and my firmware is the latest available.

WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
The Vertex 2(newest firmware) in a caddy in the optical bay shows working trim with the trimcheck app.
In the internal SATA III bays a SanDisk Extreme(5.04 firmware) and Vertex 3MI(newest firmware) trimcheck shows Trim not working.
Changing the bios to AHCI and a clean Windows 7 x64 on a SanDisk Extreme shows Trim as working in trimcheck and a return of "0" when fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify is run. -
Question is, now that Intel RST drivers pass trim down from the os to the disk, can msi upgrade the Raid Orom in a new BIOS to allow trim to be passed down from the os to the disks?
personally i think that would just make good sense to do that. it's a bit early to stop producing bioses and patches for the units sold, i mean the warranty isn't even finished yet. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I believe intel only officially supports trim in raid mode in the 7 series chipset, you would have to hack it otherwise.
-
i tested this rig with 2 SSDs in raid and even though it's great to see 800MB/s + speeds in Anvil and it was great to see a few video games load a bit faster between levels, did nothing for boot times. But if trim doesn't work that just means loosing that speed advantage eventually.
Then again, a good top tier SSD will work wonders in AHCI , 500MB/s + is nothing to sneeze at and trim just works. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Oh my single vector runs like a dream
It's only an issue if you need more than 512GB space.
-
may i inquire what speeds you're getting with the vector?
i have a vertex 4 and wonder how it differs. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I have not had the time to properly benchmark it yet, will have to get round to that!
-
all part of the fun eh ?
-
Alas, it happened again.....I'm gonna put in my extra HD & install windows and see if it happens. I hope it doesn't, would MSI just send me a replacement HD? or what I have to send the laptop in for them to swap it?
Good god almighty, you don't really appreciate an SSD until you have to use a regular HD....I'm pretty sure my boot time is taking atleast 30sec longer then before....Oh well, gotta remember this is for testing purposes -
For specific parts like hdd warranty you'd best go with western digital themselves. you can check for warranty status here : https://westerndigital.secure.force.com/WarrantyCheck?lang=en
hmm, you said in a previous post that you changed ram because you thought it was causing these BSOD's... ok so new ram still same problem.
long shot but can you try another power bar?
at this point i think you've pretty much done all you can, might be time to send it in to msi.
But for all we know it's windows, good idea to install it fresh. how's it going ?
come on, start photoshop, just for fun ? lol lol  -
lol I will NOT load photoshop! it was bad enough doing all the windows updates......I just finished, I'm gonna back up just incase lol I'm gonna be using this for atleast 2 weeks to see if the issue happens because it seems the longest ive gone is a week without an issue. If nothing happens in 2 weeks I will go ahead and format my SSD and see what happens, atleast in 2 weeks if there is an issue with the SSD I'll have this until I can get the Transcend SSD warrantied or w.e.
-
good idea.
i hope its just windows being finicky, corruption happens to the best of us. -

I need a break from all these -10C~-20C days that started before Christmas.
-
Me to, my laptop is the only thing that keeps me busy....I live 20miles from the nearest super market, and 2hrs from the nearest city. The closest WalMart is 40min away. You know your in the boonies when you cant see walmart from your house
LOL WTP, I just saw your response. If it was only that easy, lol its gonna be in the 60's here tomorrow.
Anyone use that MSI Easy Viewer? The damn thing WILL NOT install for me just keeps giving errors, figured I'd ask before I just delete it lol -
-
does it make sense that windows is recommending almost 25GB for Virtual Memory, especially on a fresh install? it was suggesting around 22GB on my SSD, which I thought was excessive especially since I have 16GB of ram and I'm usually only using 3-4GB of it.....
