whatsthepoint: i think you own a Adata N005 Pro USB 3.0 Flash Drive ?

Does it let you install windows on the usb 3 port on this laptop without needing the drivers on a 2nd usb key ?

or is that a mobo/nec/renesas specific problem that affects all usb 3 keys ?

So far only usb 2 keys in the usb 3 port pass with flying colors without requiring these Nec/Ren. drivers.

the kingston DT Ultimate G3 doesn't pass. and neither does the kingston DT111.
so far all my usb 2 keys have passed fine. slow but they work (kingston, nexxtech, memorex).

i'm trying to find a fast usb 3 key that will let me install win 7 without needing the F6 workaround.

No USB 3.0 flash drive will let you install Windows 7 from a USB 3.0 port without first slipstreaming the USB 3.0 driver into the installation files.

Windows 8 can be installed from a USB 3 flash drive in a USB 3 port because the installation files contains USB 3.0 drivers.

Also I can have Window 7 To Go on a USB 3.0 SanDisk Extreme flash drive and boot into Windows 7 from it in a USB 2 port but once I try to boot while plugged into a USB 3 port it blue screens even after regedit the nusb3hub and nusb3xhc start to 0.

Here's the best site I've found for making Windows To Go(Windows On a Stick) withe the NT6_Fast Installer doing it quick and easy.

.A lot of info on linked site:
    http://www.rmprepusb.com/

The ADATA N005 Pro doesn't hold a candle to the SanDisk Extreme which is the best and fastest USB 3.0 flash drive by a country mile.

The Corsair GT Turbo is more expensive and a distant 2nd in my USB 3.0 testing.

ok, so I didn't get a motherboard upgrade even though they say it was swapped (probably why it took so long), but I got a 675M I'm just happy it works

Bios version 1761 for old motherboard and 1762 for newer GT70 motherboard.

Did you get your old CPU back?

It can be upgraded to an Ivy Bridge in a series 7 motherboard.

EDIT:I see your new post above. No newer motherboard?

Maybe they didn't replace the motherboard, only the graphics card.

Everyone else that I have seen recently that needed a motherboard replaced in a GT78x series got a 1762 motherboard with a series 7 chipset.

    thanks for the info :)

that's what i was affraid of, win 7 being stuborn.

ok plan B - slipstreaming. Guess the usb key made by the Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool
could be changed directly, haven't played with nLite in years, lol , ah xp, fond memories.

    anyway now i guess i'll give http://www.rt7lite.com a try

i've installed those Killer wifi betas on win 7 and they work fine, probably better than the still official ones.

i'm looking into getting the Netgear R6250 for its speed in 5ghz AC but also the usb 3 port. its the main reason since the R6300 has usb 2 ports.

but i hear this new firmware boosts range a bit ?
how's it working out for you now? its already a pretty solid device, probly just made it better eh

The Killer 1103 is what's holding me back right now.

I have great cheap Internet service.

I've had the R6300 since last June when it first came out and it has served me well.

Getting near 100Mbps download speed and 0 Ping in speedtest.net on 5ghz from about 15' going through 2 cement walls so I'm going no better until there's a 3x3 802.11ac wireless cards for my notebooks.

I'm hoping they'll be some at the Computex Taiwan show in June when Haswell CPUs and series 8 mobile chipsets are released.

The USB 3.0 in the R6250 is a really nice feature but I don't use the USB ports much on the R6300.

BTW,even on a usb 2.0 port Installing W7 from a SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 flash drive is still very fast.

yeah the 1103 is nice, but i'm looking very much forward to ac wifi, especially the next-next-gen of ac that should top out at 7Gbps wow!

Let me know if you spot any ;)

i'm currently doing the slipstream, just playing with it lol, adding some basic drivers win 7 lacks like chipset and wired network, but i'll be playing with it for a while.

i do hope the prog allows to resize the text size and eliminate that flash bug on boot just before login.

    @smitty123

I'm posting this from Windows 8 On A Stick(Windows To Go) on a 64GB SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 flash drive plugged into a USB 3.0 port.Windows 8 works like a charm on USB 3.0.Almost no difference than installed on an SSD.

The controller in the SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 flash drive may be the same as in the SanDisk U100 mSATA SSDs.

I have Windows 7 x64 Ultimate(Windows To Go)(Windows On A Stick) installed on another SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 flash drive but I can't get it to not blue screen when plugged into a USB 3.0 port.If it's in a USB 2.0 port all is well and I can run the OS the same as the OS on my SSDs but somewhat slower.

    Hi
i'm new on forum, sorry for my bad english (not my mothertongue obviously).
I am an happy owner of MSI GT 780 R.
I'd like to OC a bit the GPU (GTX560 M) with MSI afterburner but i noticed that the temperature of the GPU reach over 90C degrees during 3dmark even at standard core (pre-test before OC) and i'm quite worried about that, i never checked temperature before but even on idle is around 45 celsius degrees (think is too much) with fan at maximum speed.
Does someone had the same problem ?
Do you have any suggestions ?
    The specs of laptop are:
    CPU Intel i7-2630QM
    Nvidia GTX 560 M
    Ram DDR III 8 GB
HDD 1.5 TB (2 raid 0 HD of 750 mb)
    Thanks in advance
    Paolo

45c is its normal idle temps.

90c while working hard is not uncommoon tho i would'nt push it much higher just to be on safe side.

    welcome to the board!

    Hello everyone.

I have one of the first GT780R with the GTX560M. Recently about 4-5 days ago, my laptop would crash when playing games. Also the display driver would crash sometimes.

Problem is I don't know what the problem could be. I cleaned the laptop today but I didn't change the thermal paste. Also I did an MSI burn recovery back to Windows 7.

I updated drivers and I don't what else to do. Maybe it is the GPU and starting to fail? I hope it is not. By the way I read that somebody had a similiar problem, and he reset the battery of the BIOS and everything was ok. Maybe it could help?

    Thanks for your time.

Potentially, certainly worth it if you are having big issues, it wont hurt, just remember to reset your system clock.

If your recovery partition is the original that shipped with the notebook it's very outdated.

You should do a clean fresh installation of Windows 7 x64 with all new drivers, software and utilities right from the beginning without having to update everything that was on the recovery partition.

If you have a spare hard drive or SSD then don't touch the drive you have so you have something to fall back on and then install cleanly on the new drive.

Remember to remove the old drive from the notebook when doing a clean install on a new drive.

See this post to assist you with a clean installation.

OK I'll reset my system clock, and do a clean install tomorrow. If the problem persists I'll post again. I certainly hope that it's not the GPU

If GPU gaming temperatures are 85C or lower I wouldn't worry about the thermal paste.

Is your power option set on High Performance with hard drive set to not turn off?

Is speed stepping disabled in the bios?

Are you using NVIDIA GeForce driver 314.22 or the new 320.00 beta?

Temps are 80 or so, I can't really check them because it crashes randomly. Although I must admit that it went to 92 or 93 Celsius one time I was playing Guild Wars. I cleaned it afterwards.

Power options is always on High performance.

I did not know that speed step had to be disabled. I will do that now.

Drivers are up to date 314.22.

Also, how can I remove the CMOS battery? I found it but I was not sure how to remove the pin, and I don't want to break it accidentaly.

    Again, thanks for your time.

Why do you want to remove the CMOS Battery?

If you want to reset the CMOS/Bios you can unplug the red/black wire connector from the mainboad that's near the fan after removing the battery and AC power.

It will have the same effect as removing the battery would.

Yes, sorry, that is actually what I meant, the wire connector. I don't know how to remove that without damaging it.

Also it had another crash a little while ago when watching a Youtube video. I don't know if that helps understanding the problem.

Just don't pull on the wires.

Use a pair of tweezers or needle nose pliers to grasp the with plastic connector and slightly wiggle it as you raise it out of the socket.

There's a disassembly video in post #1 that may help with any further taking apart you may want to do.

How's the battery life after 1-2 years for you guys?
I think I'm having some issues. Sometimes Windows will stop charging at 9x%, and sometimes the battery will only last ~40 mins instead of the usual 90+. Not sure yet if the battery is simply losing potency or if there's some sort of charging issue.

Also, it's about time I did a full reinstall. I think at this point doing a clean Win7 x64 install should be better than using the recovery disks. Anything in particular I should think of beforehand?

    Mine has 2.5% wear level. At idle I get 3:40 hours with a 7970m :p maybe I'm lucky :)
You should check voltage of battery with a multimeter (connect it to the 2 external pins). If it fluctuates, even 0.5volts it's your battery's circuitry that's giving you hassles.
Better start with a fresh install. Be sure to install Intel chipset drivers first :)

Have you run the MSI Battery Calibration app?
    MSI Global – Download Center

I was recently getting a message in Windows 7 that recommended I replace my battery that I wasn't getting in Windows 8.

My GT780DX is 17 months old and the battery still charges to 100%.It lasts up to 4 hours while surfing with select settings and an SSD.

On a hard drive it's about an hour less.

Sometimes the problem is the adapter not charging the battery properly.

Does the notebook work OK with the battery removed only on AC power?

Check where the power cord plugs into the notebook for wiggle.Check that the power cord from the wall outlet is securely into the power brick.

    Try a different wall outlet.

Are you using a quality surge protector?

To do a clean install of Windows 7 x64 see the post linked below.

    Hello.

I've some problems with this laptop since a few days, it's quite annoying because I've try many things with no result. I haven't flash anything or do antything in the BIOS before that

a photo will talk for me : this is the "drive" part of my BIOS :

There is about 250 thread on "that" WD5000BKTP-00PK4T0

Of course I can't boot on windows neither on a USB stick. I can't change anything in bios or It crash. I can't flash the BIOS because of that.

Maybe If I find a way to flahs Bios with a CD I can try that, but I haven't found it soon. I've try to open de laptop, eject the 2 HDD and boot without : same result in the bios.

    Can someone help me ?

    thanks

    Dear WhatsThePoint,

Sorry for troubling you. I have referred to your post #4973 but I am still quite clueless myself, sigh..

May I know which version should I download for RST and Intel Chipset?

I just know this is the chipset I'm using

Intel(R) HM67 Express Chipset Family LPC Interface Controller - 1C4B

As for the RST, I don't really understand what the station driver website mention about ICH9/10/PCH, what is it actually?

I don't even know if I'm right about this, otherwise, kindly guide me, thank you.

Once more, sorry for my ignorance.

Yes, but I have flashed the bios with a CD and freedos and everything is better now. I turn off the RAID and I think one of my Hdd is dead.

Yes that is a symptom of a bad controller eeprom on that western digital hdd. I have encountered a bad hdd that reported 23879 GB of space (if only it was true.. :p) When I tried to reflash it with an updated firmware that seagate sent me it died. I had to change the pcb. Could not afford to loose the data in it ;)
If you know how to change the pcb, go on and do it. Else don't bother taking it to a repair center. They tend to charge a lot.. Just get a new hdd :)

After a night in sleep mode, it now shows 99% charge. This has been going on for a few weeks, in different places.
I'll try the battery calibration now. I'd looked for it without success, but it didn't occur to me to simply search for battery calibration in the windows menu...
Edit: Oh nice, now I get a "consider replacing your battery" message. At least it's charging..

Any Intel Chipset Installation Software version from 9.2.0.1032 to the present 9.4.0.1017 will work and install all necessary system drivers for GT78x series of notebooks with Intel Controller Hub 10(ICH10)

I don't Install any Intel Rapid Storage Driver/Software when my bios is set to AHCI.From testing with my SSDs with bios set to AHCI I've found I get the best performance with the Microsoft Windows 7 build in MSAHCI driver.

With a Raid setup I like version RST 11.2.0.1066.It performs very well with the very old 10.1 Raid Utility OROM in the GT780DX.

PCH = Platform Controller Hub.A few year back Intel based motherboards had a Northbridge and Southbridge chips for what is now all on one chip(PCH).The supported functions of the PCH chips are listed in subdivisions called chipsets>H,HM,B,Z,X etc.

The newest (MEI) Management Engine Interface driver v9.5.0.1428 will raise the feature set in the GT78x series to v9.5.0.1393

It doesn't work that way unfortunately :p
It needs bios support which our machines provide only up to 7.1.5 MEI feature set. Starting with 8.0 Intel added support for Ivy Bridge. Our notebooks don't support IB so MSI didn't upgrade its bios with FW 8.0 (the reason for gt70/gt60 came out). It's also a reason why newer GPUs don't always work out-the-box ;)

It's no secret that MSI is not going to give us anything past bios 30H although an 11 series Raid Utility OROM would have been nice.

The MEI firmware and the MEI driver are 2 separate pieces of software.

The 9.5 driver installation doesn't require a new ROM.It installs just fine.

The driver installs and updates the driver displayed in Device Manager>System Devices>Management Engine Interface>Driver>To version 9.5.0.1393

Whether or not it adds anything of value over V7 or V8 drivers is unknown to me so an update is your own choice as is all other drivers updates.

So, I should download with chipset labeled ICH10?

I was thinking of downloading the 12.6.0.1028 WHQL of RST but since there is no ICH10, I should download 11.7.4.1001 WHQL?

    Kindly advise me, thank you.

I do not have RST 11.2.0.1066. I'm currently using 10.8.0.1003.

If Windows 7 System Devices is already showing the driver as 9.2.0.1032 then you have the best already installed for the series 6 HM67 chipset in a GT78x series notebook.

If for a clean install then download and install

    Intel Chipset Installation Software v9.4.0.1017
    intel drivers pour chipsets

The Intel® Chipset Device Software contains support for the following Intel Chipsets:

    Intel® 5 Series Chipsets
    Intel® 3400 Series Chipsets
    Intel® 4 Series Chipsets
    Intel® 3 Series Chipsets
    Intel® 900 Series Chipsets
    Intel® 800 Series Chipsets
    Intel® Server/Workstation Chipsets
    Intel® Xeon® Processor 5500/3500 series
    Intel® 6 Series Express Chipsets
    2nd Generation Intel® Core™ processor family
    3rd Generation Intel® Core™ processor family
    Intel® 7 Series Express Chipset
    4th Generation Intel® Core™ processor family
    Lynx Point
    Lynx Point LP

As I said before....I don't install an RST when my bios is set to AHCI.

You can if you want just to compare performance on your system with different versions.

I suggest the testing to start after a clean W7 installation is done and the default MSAHCI storage driver is tested first then the 10.8>11.2>11.5>11.6>11.7>12.0>12.5>12.6 if you want to test the full lineup.

Thank you very much, your posts and replies have always been helpful.

I thought the RST would show performance boost, an obvious boost. Anyway, I'll just install it, who knows it might be helpful?

    Once more, thank you!! :)
