    You need a modified driver.

You can get the driver with modified inf file from here. Easy to install nothing special just put the inf file in the right folder.

331.40 is the latest driver on their site. Download it + inf file. Use 7zip to zipout the content of the zipped file and put the nv_dispi file in the 'Display.Driver' folder. Then start the driver installation.

To dl the inf file you need to right click on the link and choose "Save target as" when the i.e. window will open you will see in the bottom line: "nv_dispi".
Thats no good. You need to put a dot after it and write after the dot: inf. And hit the save button.
You need to see this: nv_dispi.inf

Why do you think he needs a modded inf?

I'm in the same situation. I put a gtx580M in my gt780dx (wich came out with a gtx570m). Since then I can't install any original nvidia driver. Error me: no compatible hw.

    Hello again guys!

Just for the record I solved my problem with windows 8.1 and scm when bluetooth went on loop. If somebody will have a similar problem the only thing you have to do is just install 10.013.03016 from official msi gt780dx download site and then install SCM 10.013.06287 strictly on it. I downloaded v .06287 form msi dragon 2 extreme site.

    Cheers!

Try 331.40 without the mod, see if it installs, then mod it if it doesn't.
331.40 has added support for many 700 series GPUs from MSI.
There's also 327.44 beta that offers OpenGL 4.4 from the developer zone below.

Thanks to all for the answer. Got the modified file and installed latest drivers from nvidia site. Easy peasy when you know how :) Running great and modified my gtx 560m heatsink to fit the 770m and temps are about 37 idle and 70c gaming which is cooler than 560m was with same paste.

Some of the metal posts likely needed grounding and you will need to stack some thermal pads to ensure all the parts make contact.

Differences betwen heatsinks. On the left hs for 570m/580m/670m/675m and on the right hs for 670mx/675mx/680m/770m/780m.
The best solution for 670mx/675mx/770m/780m is heatsink with bridge.

    Hey all,
Hopefully there are some overclocking gurus out there that can help me with a question. I'm using Afterburner to OC my GTX 570M and I have found a several posts on this forum that all use about the same numbers for a safe OC. The only problem is they are listing GPU/Shader/Mem and my version of Afterburner (which is the newest version) doesn't have a slider for shader clock. So what I want to know is does the GPU slider still change the the shader clock like in the older versions of AB where they were linked even though it's not shown? If not, can I use nvidia Inspector for the shader clock simultaneously with AB. (With nvidia Inspector the GPU clock slider is greyed out, not sure why).

    Thanks

Shader/core ratio is locked in fermi, you change one and it automatically changes the other.

I have weird problem with my GT780
If I put windows 8 in ssd (port 0), linux in the hdd (port 1)
and set to boot to p1 in the bios, I get windows 8
The only way I can boot to linux is using F11 and select hdd (port 1)
    Bug in the bios ?

Sounds like a BIOS glitch to me.
Set boot to P1 results in P0 boot.
F11 override, select P1 results in P1 boot.

Check the BIOS version under System Information.
Did you install Linux while Win8 was already present?

I have 3 SSDs in my GT780DX and the ODD removed to external box.

Two have Windows 7 x64 HP and one has Windows 8.1.

Even though I set the bios to boot one of the Windows 7 installations first the boot order sometimes changes on it's own to boot the Windows 8 drive first.

Hello, could some gentle soul give me the link to the MSI Turbo Drive Engine and NVidia OC tool (for my GT780 DXR) on their respective websites, i can't find it (getting negative responses on search, and can't find manually).
64 bit version: the one i found in the first post (how to section) is 32 bit from what i've seen... or it is not working for some reason... outdated? stopped wroking since my laptop was i warranty service and they aparently updated the S-Bar. Reinstall didn't help. P1 button still won't work, clock stuck at 525 core/1050 memory.

    Thanks.

    MSI Global – Download Center

As for TDE you need the latest SBar for your model:

First of all - do not open/replace anything if you're still under guarantee - it may negate it. If you're still under manufacturer guarantee (2 years since buying the laptop), contact your contry's MSI support with the problem (you may be able to do it though the reseller, or directly - if the reseller isn't concerned, they'll most likely link you to the MSI support).

Once you contacted MSI you'll most likely have to fill a form about the problem, and they'll send someone to pick up (you'll most likely have to order a courier from the company they'll point you, and MSI will pay for the shipment. It was like that in my case at least) the laptop for guarantee repair.

As for the problem itself - by the touch sensor you mean the touch pad, or the touch bar?
No clue as how to resolve a problem with the touch pad, for the touch bar (the one above the keyboard) it is possible to lift it as it is not glued, and to check if everything is alright with the ribbon cable under it (do not lift too much or you might pull the cable out).

Is it still under warranty? Contact MSI and see if it's still under warranty, if not then ask to buy the part to fix it yourself.

You need to place thermal pads on every black chip and capacitor above the core and to the right. Also on the big grey inductors.

    Hello,
    I have GT780DX with 570m on the 1762 platform.
What is the max possible video card upgrade for this platform without changing heatsink?
Can I buy New NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770M 3GB DDR5 MXM 3 0 Type B for Clevo Alienware MSI | eBay this 770m, replace the old one (plug&play) and continue my work?
I've read last pages about 1761 platform. Are there any significant improvements in terms of graphic cards?

    Thanks

I think it may still need some modding to work, i'd advise getting the 7970M with the new heatsink.

Meaker is leaps and bounds more knowledgeable than I am when it comes to upgrading your video card but if you're interested in the GTX 770M, that card will work. I just upgrade mine a week ago and this is what I did.

    1. I purchased New NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770M 3GB DDR5 MXM 3 0 Type B for Clevo Alienware MSI | eBay
    2. I purchased OCZ Freeze Extreme Performance Thermal Conductivity Compound | eBay
    3. I purchased Koolance 0 5mm Thick Thermal Padding 10 x 10 Cm | eBay
    4. After all materials were delivered, I installed the GTX 770M, spread the thermal paste on the GPU.
    5. Then I removed the old thermal pads from my original GTX 570M heatsink and replaced them with the new thermal pads that I ordered.
Note: I made sure I matched up on the heatsink thermal pads with every black chip and capacitor on the GTX 770M. It's very important that you pay close attention where you put the thermal pads, since it's slightly different than the chip and capacitor lineup of the GTX 570M.

    6. You only need to do this if you're running Windows 8; which I am. I followed Method 1 here How To Disable Driver Signing In Windows 8 | Windows 8 Drivers to disable driver signing.

    7. I Downloaded the modified INF file and driver from here LaptopVideo2Go: Drivers
Note: Right click on the INF link and do save target as and give it the name nv_dispi.inf

    To install:
    a) Extract the driver to a folder.
    b) Copy the nv_dispi.inf file to the Display.Driver folder of extracted driver.
    c) Double click the setup.exe file of the extracted driver and do a clean driver install.

That's it! That's all I did. No physical mods needed and the card works great! Hope this helps.

Thanks smitty123 for the kind words.

Yeah, I found myself having to be a detective - asking 100 questions and it got to be very frustrating - although I was thankful for the answers I received. I figured I'd put something out there to make it easier for the next guy.

Remember that even though the graphics card will be new the other parts in the notebook may be near or already out of warranty.

The motherboard is getting old.If it goes....

For the cost of a 770M and what you can get for your notebook as is together with some cash a new notebook with the hardware parts you want and full warranty should be considered.

By all means replace a defective card to get a notebook up and running but a major upgrade part in a 2(+) year old notebook IMO may not be money well spent.

The thing about the 7970M you get the high powered card without the enduro issues, with the 770M you could get the new style bridge cooler though.

the nature of modified INF is to allow setup of drivers for any nvidia gpu. so is the single inf future proof for future drivers or do i need to download an INF per driver release?

also, does installing a new card with drivers make Turbo Drive Engine redundant? do i remove it or keep it or doesn't matter?
