even under constant use? lol here I thought I was over due for a repaste :p I'll throw a tad bit extra on once I got the new pads. This should hold for a few days since I'm not really playing anything until I get this rectified.

i have had mine since January 2012 and i havent done a repaste yet.
The temps are nice and cool and my room isn't so warm but not too cool.

it isn't factory paste but it was done at the puter store. i have no idea what they used but like i said, keep practicing, its not just the compound but the application. too much or too little will not transfer heat well.

Give it a day or two to see if your temps go down.

if all else fails go play outside, its -20c here lol ;)

Sorry for interrupting, I need help with my GT780DX. Its not booting. I recorded a video of it to better show what is happening.

MSI GT780DX Not Booting. - YouTube

I already cleaned the vents and re-applied thermal compound on both CPU and GPU thinking it was an overheating issue.

I tried to restore it to factory setting but it didn't finish. It can't even get there anymore.

It used to randomly shuts off and restarts, now its worse.

I have it for about 2 years and 4 months. Warranty already expired.

    Thanks in advance!

Well that or an HD7970M with the right bios. Both have their benefits and negatives.

cool, does optimus work with it ?

yunno that powerdown videocard for onboard gpu.

i'd really prefer to have it enabled in my set up, i don't game 24/7 and i'd like the fan to slow down enough to turn off even.

Where did you buy your 770m, on ebay or somewhere in particular?

Well the 770m can be found cheaper and will run cooler, people prefere nvidia drivers usually but non enduro single card will mean little difference in practise.

The 7970m has more horsepower and wont need modified drivers to install.

If I'm right we can't enabled optimus on our laptop. I'm not sure because of the sandybridge cpu or the MB chipset is the problem. Honestly I did not tried it yet...I will do.

    I bought it from e-bay:

the improvement are quite noticeable if you do it carefully using IC Diamond to replace all thermal pads, i just did a test with GT60 3K edition not only it cools GPU, it also cools CPU too since there are less heat send to CPU from the bridge. :)

I was more talking about the other pads on the GPU and CPU heatsinks themselves, the bridge could impact temperatures more.

If anyone intends to do overclocking then a good paste job and thermal pad replacement is required for proper operation.

Well, I replaced the pads and put fresh AS5. Temps seem better, less jumping around. Gonna game hardcore tonight for full test :D.

P.S - I've got huge hands, changing the thermal pads was a ROYAL P.I.T.A! lol

AS5 takes several days to cure so if it was properly applied using the surface spread method after fully removing the old paste, you may not notice the best results until a few more days of use have passed.

Many other pastes don't need curing time but AS5 does.

The last repaste I did I used IC Diamond sent by GenTech.

At my next repaste I'll use it on the memory chips also since the gap between the chip and heatsink is so little.

I put the ICD tube in hot water before using to help spread it better.

You can place them on the heatsink too except for the VRMs tucked next to the right (as the card is installed) inductor on the right hand edge. The lateral movement as you install the heatsink tends to knock them off so putting them on the chips is the best plan.

    will do, thanks WTP !

and also about the warning of fluctuations in connection speeds with the new drivers for AC-7260 cards. i think intel must've introduced some speed restrictions maybe to compensate for distance?

Owners of these cards might want to wait before upgrading from 16.6.0.8 for now.

if would, i explain how that update, my current is 7.1.60.1193...... i would to find 7.1.80.1214

basically, with google you find mei version 1.5m , and gt780 is not compatible with firmware 5m

    FIXES:
The following fixes have been applied to version 7.1.70.1198:

    - Eliminates Intel ME event log writes when Intel AMT is un-provisioned.
    - Fixes an issue where a TLS session can't be established when using TLS 1.1
    version.
    - Fixes a moderate level security issue where Intel ME FW may accept client
certificate with unauthorized x509v3 certificate subject name suffix When
configured in TLS Mutual Authentication mode.
    - Fixes an issue where opening a KVM session after disabling SecIOService opens
a session for ~40 seconds without indication to the user.
    - Fixes a high level security issue where an unauthenticated attacker could
send malformed ICMPv6 packets to Intel AMT and potentially cause a temporary
denial of service condition of Intel AMT.
    - fixes an issue where Intel ME wakes unexpectedly from Moff after
    approximately 10 seconds.
    - Fixes an issue where Intel ME enters recovery mode when running warm reset
    cycles.
    - Fixes an issue where the system hangs in host OS after S3 resume.

The following fixes have been applied to version 7.1.52.1176:

    - Fixes an issue when using PAVP-enabled media (Blu-ray, Intel® WiDi, Intel®
    Insider™, etc.)
    - Fixes an issue which prevented provisioning (enabling) of the Intel® Identity
    Protection Technology (Intel® IPT) feature.

The following fixes have been applied to version 7.1.20.1119:

    - Fixes security issues where an unauthenticated remote attacker could exploit
memory boundary errors which could lead to a ME firmware reset and possibly
    arbitrary code execution.
    - Fixes a security issue where an unauthenticated remote attacker could trigger
ME firmware reset as a result of a malicious network packet.
    - Fixes a security issue where an unauthenticated remote attacker could exploit
a ME firmware memory leak issue to trigger Denial-of-Service (DoS).
    - Fixes the ability to change the COM port in serial-over-LAN (SOL).
    - Fixes several reliability issues in the ME kernel.

How easy is it to upgrade the processor? I currently have the stock I7 2670 in the GT783R and would like to upgrade a bit. Can I just buy one and drop it in or will something need to be flashed? Also what are the best options and finally a source?

I come for your advice again.

Anyone experience a lot of screen messing up and drivers crashing when gaming with new Nvidia drivers 331.93 to be specific? When not gaming it likes to crash every once in a while when I'm doing something of graphic nature.
I also noticed that the laptop likes to shut down every few hours, no overheating, I sense it's the driver, since it's been giving me artifacting problems after the last update, the screen messing up in game etc.

Edit: It's overvolting it seems, need to just roll back to 314.22

Edit2: Solved it by rolling back to previous release actually.

I think I'm having a completely different issue with graphics corruption.

I was using 331.93 since it was released but 3 days ago I began to get artifacts and then black screens.

A clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro/Windows 7 HPx64 and the basic Microsoft graphics driver has no graphics corruption and no black screens.

As soon as Windows Update completes installing NVIDIA driver the artifacts begin and in a few seconds a black screen.

I happens now with any NVIDIA driver version on both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1

All clean installs are corruption free until any version of a NVIDIA driver is installed.

I'm glad I purchased a 3yr extended warranty from the reseller at the time of purchase.

The service center is about 10 minutes away and I can walk it in.

I think another GPU of mine fried, again..

Resets, no more artifacting after I deleted all the drivers and installed older version of them, however, laptop keeps restarting. Well off to RMA again.I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, it's not overheating, I take care of cleaning it and repasting once the heat gets too high, which I have done twice per 2 years.

I have a feeling it could have been the overvolting Nvidia driver issues frying my GPU.

Worst part is I cannot check the proper error, since a minidump is not created after a restart.

I have the GT780R with the GTX 560m graphics card. I would like to know what possibilities do I have to upgrade the video card: which nVidia / ATI models, cost...

    Thanks in advance :)

For nVidia line, supposedly the highest you can go is 770M, and for AMD radeon it is 7950M.
You can switch some other different GPUs but you will be limited by incompatible heatsink due to different placements of components.
If you can eliminate the heatsink issue then you will definitely be able to enjoy a better graphics on your system.

Hi Kevin & thanks for your response. I understand that there are no out-of-the-box compatible (without some modding) heatsinks for my system and the 770M / 7950M.

If so, what are the alternatives that do have a compatible heatsink that can be bought online?

    Thanks in advance.
    Happy new year!

You can find heatsinks on ebay and the members market, any modern GT60 or GT70 heatsink will fit.

The best cards are the 7970M or the 770M.

Machines that can accept 1.5V typically can drive 1.35V modules.
Except machines that can only accept 1.35V cannot accept 1.5V modules.

Notebooks which take 1.5v ram by default will always supply 1.5v too so no power consumption benefits.

Is bios set to RAID or AHCI?

Your Windows Installation media could be corrupt?

Are you installing Windows 7 or 8.1?

From USB flash drive or DVD created using Microsoft USB/DVD Tool and ISO from reliable source?

I've never owned a Samsung SSD but have had Intels,Crucial,OCZ,GSkill and SanDisk.

Starting off with a secure erased SSD or fully formatedwith and all other disks removed?

At the screen after choosing Custom clean installation i recommend formatting each partition that is showiing and then deleting each partition until only 1 remains. The available space should be exactly the same as the space on the disk before the files start installing.

When the files are finished unpacking onto the SSD the system will reboot. At this time remove the USB flash drive.

I've installed Windows 7 HP x64 a few hundred times on mine and others PCs without issue using the method in this linked post.

I've seen problems like yours when there's missing or corrupt installation files.

Is the installation OK before you install the Intel chipset installation software?

Have you used the Samsung Magician software to optimize the 840 EVO SSD?
