Some WD40 should do the trick, just cover the rest of the notebook in disposable cloths before spraying and leave only the hinge exposed.

Any chance to use this with my GT780DX. There is no DisplayPort on it.

It can also turn into a gum as it ages on things that get warm. -
the Lepage company replied to my question about plasticwood in the screw holes, they said it wasn't compatible with this plastic. its also solvent-based, so i'd rather not risk it. the plastic cover and bezel are so thin i'm affraid it'd eat right through.
just gonna have to find better screws like WTP said in the previous page and some kind of lube. -

Alright, so my warranty center said that it's the GPU that's dead. So my GT783 has killed 2 GPU's now.
I wonder what is causing it, problems with the GPU only started when I updated to R331 drivers, had crashing problems with R320 too I believe.
Could it be the drivers killing the card generally?
Just for more info:
Problem started with games that had v-sync off, then later moved to games that had DX11 on. Some games would cause a hard restart on the laptop with those settings on, some just cause artifacting and either crashing the whole of Windows or just crashing the game.
Also, my bezel crumbled away as well. First the back part cracked, the side where the vents are, then it fell apart, then it wouldn't close properly, just bend the plastic, then it all just gave way and now there's just metal and bent plastic. -

Where is your service center located? Have you asked them to replace the motherboard as well? -
They have replaced the motherboard the first time this happened. The GPU at the time was GTX 580M, then they upped it to 675M, which of course required a motherboard change.
Though such problems started happening after driver update. First there were no restarts, just artifacting on some games, and driver crashing on others. Then the restarts kicked in a few months later.
The GPU used to get as hot as 97 C, might be the cause? I read of some viruses doing that to Nvidia GPU's for bitcoin mining, but mine was clean as a baby though.
Even when repasted it retained same temps, they were higher than normal, idle 48 - 50, under load 85 - 97.
Or I might be just extremely unlucky. -

Although no one helps me with the information I need on the laptop in question, I can confirm that the heat sink of the new models after the GT780 (the ones with the heat sink with copper extension that clips to the CPU), and fit perfectly well on this notebook, tomorrow I will tell you the temperatures at idle and when I play the cpu and gpu (gtx 770m).
another thing, many people say to put 1mm thermal pads on the four chips of the GPU and then the rest to 0.5mm but seeing the good thermal pads factory I saw that the Rams should be the x 0.5mm while all the rest go 1mm
the bridge goes one from 0.5 but I put that 1mm hoping to improve it -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
All thermal pads should be 0.5mm for the best performance.
The heatsinks are cross compatible across all the machines with the same shape. -

I got my GT780DX back yesterday from MSI service center after exactly 3 weeks.
I am out of MSI warranty time but have 3rd party 3 year coverage that got prior approval for the repairs.
I got 2 new memory modules,MB and graphics card.
The service center informed me that had the notebook still been covered by MSI warranty I might not have been covered for a graphics card repair because I changed the graphics card thermal pads and applied IC Diamond to the chip that they feel could have been a cause of the cards failure along with the use of the non MSI driver.
The new parts are only warrantied for 3 months.
A new "Warranty Void If Removed Sticker"was put on the bottom. -
That's not cool of them WTP, i call total bs.
But hey think of it this way, now you've got a whole new laptop (mobo, gpu, ram) out of it for the cost of like 20$ 2 years ago.
and they say extra warranty is a scam. Maybe for that 50$ mp3 player but a 2000$ computer, i'd say its money well planned. -
double post

i have benchmarked with valley benchmark , gpu max 64°C
gpu idle 37-39
i have disabled boost logic feauture, gpu at full 863 mhz 24/7 -
Also it's been 2 weeks of repairs already. -

After that it was smooth sailing.
It may not be a scam but Square Trade has had many complaints as have many insurance claims.
It seems people that bought from ebay and got a Square Trade warranty fare the best.
Others report that ST tries their best to find some reason to void your warranty saying it was dropped and getting people to cancel their warranty plus wait a long time to get their item back and receive a refund.
There's many reports that good ST reviews are manufactured.
Good Luck -

It's an active converter, meaning format conversion. Remember that this HDMI adapter goes up to 1920×1080 max resolution so that will limit the number of displays you can use (or significantly lower their max resolution). Think about if it's worth it

No point in converting it though since you gain no extra bandwidth.

You can get higher resolution with VGA D-sub however at the loss of image quality, -
Thank you for everyone for the help who is involved in it. It seems there is no solution to use 3 external monitors.

did you try to recover them? it could just be the drivers, or try reinstalling windows if you have a spare drive. but just to test try booting with a usb key to see if that works.
But if you're at the point of getting a 3 monitor set up going for gaming, i'd suggest getting a tower to do what you ask with multiple videocards. -

i hope so, but he can get a usb hub for his other stuff to work too.
-

If you are going to have that monitor setup then you would be pretty much stationary, why not get an amplified USB 3.0 hub to boost the signal as well as extending more ports? -
Hi guys, now that I've managed to get P1 to work as OC again, I have a new problem with my GT780 running W8.1:
The SCM button that used to launch Cinema Pro II now launches MS Media Player and then STAYS LIT.
How do I get it to turn off again? It is very annoying and used to work before upgrading from W8 to W8.1. Clicking it just re-launches WMC, which I do not use.
(Also: Cinema Pro II refuses to install at all on W8.1! Any advice on that?)
I'm using the latest SCM for machines upgraded from W7 to W8.
Help pls -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Try install a player software that you have and see if you can replace it with something else that you prefer. -
Point is that the media button a) does not turn off if you press it (it launches WMP and stays lit forever), and b) I'd like to ideally re-program it to at least point to say VLC.
Any ideas? -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Have you checked with MSI and see if they have any solutions for it? -
So one usb port is "wide" enough for two 1920x1080 res. monitors, I mean, is there enough bandwidth through one usb 3.0 port + an usb 3.0 hub for two monitors. The third monitor will be attach to HDMI port. I want to use them at 1920x1080 resolution and want to extend the desktop through 3 monitors. Is it possible. -
-
Anyway you right but I won't build a tower again. This laptop is a DTR laptop so I want to squeeze out everything from it.
We will see how it goes. -
My machine is only 2 years old and it looks like MSI already threw away any support for it. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It wont be a model they will be looking at issues for but there is no harm in letting them know about the issue. You could try contacting svet over at the msi forums.

Hello i have GT783 625US and my 580M broke down so I ordered 675M, will it work?
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Be sure to verify the heatsink compatibility with 675M and its component placement. -

Hello everyone. o/
First off sorry for posting a wall of text but I wanted to give as much information as possible to make it easier to get help.
I had this GT780 for two plus years. Last night I had a marathon gaming session then turned it off, next morning gamed on it for couple more hours suddenly it shutdown with no warning . No need to mention I always game connected to mains. Laptop won't turn on neither on battery nor plugged in.
Worth to mention when it shutdown powerbrick felt extremely hot to the touch.
When I connect the ac adapter to laptop the ac adapter 's light comes off. Doesn't make a difference if I pull the battery or not. Browsing through the net some say this means mobo has short circuit and psu is sensing it and cutting DC current protecting itself.
Since warranty is no longer valid I opened the back and
noticed TIM paste on both cpu and gpu cores had good contact withheatsink but were spread over and came into contact with SIMs. Is it possible that the TIM was electrically conductive and caused a short between SIMs?
Currently I have cleaned the TIM off the cores and SIMs planning on buying tuniq mx-4 to re-apply the paste but have no idea how to tell which one is broken, cpu gpu or mobo or non.
I am in a bad situation currently. My GT780 is broken and it is my only computer atm super handicapped without a pc appreciate any helps and hints. -
You can try and turn it on without the GPU (pull the card out of it's slot). If the light turns on but pulses, than the GPU is fried and needs to be changed. If not than the mobo is the culprit. What game were you playing? Did you notice the fan spinning more than usual? What's the max temp you ever got? TIMs are not conductive unless you go for a liquid metal one. It seems to me that heat was the cause of the sudden shutdown.
-
Thanks for the reply .
I was not measuring temps real-time. Used to run 3dmark measuring temps when I first bought GT780 but I don't remember the temps now, was long ago. Back then temp readings were not alarmingly high I think or I would have remembered it. But I can tell you the air coming out of vent was as hot as a hairdryer's last night. I was so caught up in the game that I didn't pay much attention to that. My fault I should have plugged the cooling pad in and turned the laptop fan all the way up manually.
The game was age of Conan, there was a world boss event going on lots of ppl in open area lots of effects going on taxing on the gpu for many hours.
I pulled out the gpu, and the laptop turned on but of course I couldn't verify if it will do a successful boot to Windows or not since there's no heatsink on them atm pulled the plug immediately. But at least it responded to the power button. :-D Powerbrick light stayed on with no blinking during the brief period laptop was on.
So I guess this means gpu is shot for sure? Is it likely that another component is gone too?
And another question, where do you recommend buying the gpu from, does GT780 cooling/psu/bios allow anything above GTX560M?
Thanks a lot. -
Since your model does not have an integrated GPU it cannot boot into Windows. If it turns on without the dedicated it means the power regulators on your GPU are fried..A new GPU is needed!
So you got the first generation of GT780..You need to get a hold of a 570m or better a 770m/7970m. You can try the market here on NBR or look at Ebay.
This way you can get a deal and recieve a nice performance bump from the original 560m. Also I would repaste and upgrade from the stock thermal pads with some Phobya ones for better performance.
If you're going for the 7970m route keep in mind that the fan control does not scale with the GPU temp so you would need to game with turbofan on all the time.
Last thing, get in touch with majstermsi here on the forums. You will need a new heatsink with the newer cards. Get a new power brik too (180w). I know that's a lot of things but it ensures that all goes smoothly and trouble free.
