Hey all, first timer here looking for some help.

I received my MSI GT780DX back from RMA a week or two ago where the laptop died and they replaced the GFX card. They ended up replacing the stock one with a GTX 675M, but when I got it back, all of my games performed worse then when I ran the stock card (GTX 570M). Running the same settings as before I am noticing drops in my GPU Load from high 90%s down to about 30%ish for a few split seconds before jumping back up to the 90% load level.

This is happening with no rhyme or reason based upon what is going on onscreen, but seems to happen every minute or two. It is very noticeable in World of Tanks and in MechWarrior Online, but I have not noticed this drop when running any benchmarking software or other games such as Europa Universalis 4 or Tropico 4.

I have done a bunch of google-research and cannot seem to determine with a high certainty if it is game related (unlikely) or throttling or card related (which is how I am leaning now). I have seen talk of updating the vBIOS and BIOS may help it, but I am unsure of if this will indeed resolve the issue or how really to do it let alone what is the right (v)BIOs to use.

I guess I am looking for a recommendation on what to do or how to proceed, should I attempt to upgrade the BIOs to the custom ones that I've seen around, should I call MSI's RMA dept and let them know that what they sent me back is worse then what I sent them? Any ideas?

well i've been playing left 4 dead 2 and found it was stuttering at the start of the levels. would last only a few seconds then it would go away.

turns out it was the antialiasing and filtering modes both set to 4x, i turned it up to 16x and no more stuttering.

i wonder if i need both of them at the same time tho or if one is redundant?

AA smooths the edges of models while a keeps textures sharp 8 to the distance. At the start of the level it will be loading.

check gpu temps and cpu temps.

Well this is a first, I was almost laughing on the phone when talking to the dude from the RMA center.

The laptop got so boned that they replaced 5 GPU's and 3 motherboards and still didn't manage to get it to work, still restarts like mad. They had this laptop for 5 weeks now, now they just given up and sent MSI a form for them to send me a completely new laptop. Different model too, since they don't have 783's no more I believe.

I wonder what laptop will I get as a replacement. It'd be cool if it's one of the GT70's, but I don't have my hopes up high.

Another month of no laptop. Bored is the wrong word to describe my state. I actually had to go out and do stuff to stay entertained. That's scary.

Are you still having this issue? Or if it's resolved?
If not, then check with MSI again.

You can bring some facts to them, such as your 3DMark11 score.

It's great that your notebook is still under warranty.

If it wasn't you'd be buying a new one .

I recently when through the same thing but got my graphics card, motherboard and ram replaced by MSI under a 3rd party warranty 3 year insurance.

It's working well with a new GTX570M,1761 motherboard and Samsung ram.

The repair at MSI prices was over $1,100

I was reimbursed for the full repair cost 4 days after submitting my pre appoved claim.

    That's wonderfull WTP,

it paid off great for you to have bought the extra coverage.

the trick when you buy something new and want extra coverage like that is not to overpay (10% is fair but a lot for a 2k$ machine),

Afterall it is a chance you're taking. who knows if these companies will actually come trough for us when we need them. i've heard some can be real shysters when it comes to making a claim with them

At the time I bought my GT780DX the MSI warranty in Korea was only 1 year so when my reseller offered a 2nd and 3rd year for $20 if you pre ordeedr during the 1st 4 days of pre order availability I jumped right on it.

    Best $20 I ever spent.

Why doesen't MSI sell an optional 3rd year?

A lot of people keep there notebooks way past the 2 years.that MSI gives on the Gaming Series.

If MSI offered an optional 3rd year for about $99 would you have bought it when you ordered your new notebook?

I am so sad that to announce my GT783 battery is dead and i cannot use it portable anymore

It will work fine once there is a AC power in it

You can also buy a replacement battery from either MSI or eBay.

Hello. I noticed the gtx 770m has optimus. My gt783 has a i7 2760 CPU. My concern is people hating optimus. Will optimus be totally disable and be perfectly compatible too? Thank you

It's not possible because the Nvidia GPU is like a slave unit attached to the primary display unit which is the Intel HD Graphics.
This is why if you disable Intel HD Graphics in the Device Manager the system gives you no display after a reboot.

No, it shouldn't be an issue for you.
I only answered the optimus part on the Optimus-enabled laptop, but since your system is a GT783 it is not Optimus-enabled.

so if i upgrade to a 770m, it won't activate optimus ever & everything will work fine?

is there a reason i can't use 780m on this laptop?

    Intel 802.11ac 7260

i'm having some intermittent cut offs with an N router. (i'll have to test with my ac router when i have the chance)

i'm using intel drivers 16.6 and not 16.7

come to think of it, my old killer N card was also doing that.

i wonder if the power supply or mother board wouldn't have something to do with this.
maybe the wifi card is drawing too much juice and they can't supply it ?

Well guys, this is amazing. They are replacing my laptop with a GT70-2OC. Will take a month to deliver, but I don't mind:

    i7-4700

    GTX 770

That's the end of me on this thread. Hopefully this laptop doesn't crash and burn as m GT783 did. I feel I got really unlucky with that one.

Sorry! Went away for a bit and didnt get a chance to check back until now!

Yes, I tried throttlestop and it had not effect, exact same issue still occurred with no difference in frequency or change in load. I wish it would have been that easy!

I called MSI on Thursday and they are RMAing it a second time. I describe the problem the best I could and told them the exact perimeters of what is happening, what happens in game and according to the different system views I was watching. I also stepped them through the troubleshooting what I've done with several game companies to make sure it isn't something on their end.

So today I will send it away for another month in which they will replace the graphics card hopefully that will resolve it?

I'm starting to have power issues playing the titanfall beta. The powerbrick stops providing power and I have to unplug it for 30 seconds to get it working again. Should I just order a new power brick? The graphics is slightly upgraded to a gtx675 from the 580, but that shouldn't use more power.

If you are on the 2.4ghz band it's best if you set the channel width to "20Mhz only" in the wireless card Advanced Properties to help prevent disconnects.
    Roaming Aggressiveness = Low
    Transmit power = Highest

If you are using the 5ghz band set the 5ghz as preferred band. Then in the Windows Wifi Status check the box to enable Intel Connection Settings. There set the band to 5.2ghz,enter your access point mac address and select Cisco Options.

If you use both set it accordingly.

In all cases make sure the router is set to WPA2 PSK(AES).If you have TKIP enabled you will get low transmit and receive speeds.TKIP will limit speed to 54 Mbps and lower.

Ah, the whole computer just went dark, and the power brick is good, and that battery isn't dead. I have a new brick coming, so I will try it, but it looks like I'm getting a new laptop. What's a good option for a gaming laptop for about 2k?

I am back again. Quick recap, the GTX560m in my msi GT780 fried. I got a new one from ebay.

I particularly made sure to buy the 560m that looks exactly the same as mine from a seller with good rep as there are quite a few different variations on ebay some have VR components that differ a bit from mine and there's the blue pcb one for toshiba.

So I asked the seller on ebay whether the board they are sending looks exactly the same as the item picture they said yes.

Now that it has arrived upper part of the board differs a bit in VR components. It was a brand new 560m though so I installed it and laptop came alive booted to windows but nvidia driver says cannot find compatible graphics card and I am stuck at low res.

I asked the seller again and they replied it's an alienware it should work.

Any way to fix this problem? Is bios flashing going to help?

    Thanks in advance.

Try the 334.89 driver from NVIDIA with the modded inf from laptopvideo2go

NVIDIA DRIVERS GeForce 334.89 Driver WHQL

    http://laptopvideo2go.com/infs/330series/33489_win8x64/nv_dispi.inf

    Unpack the driver.
    Open the Display Driver folder
Copy the modded files to the nv-disp.inf

    Then use the modded driver

    Hi mate,

I had to grind a bit the height to get the power mosfets to fit otherwise it's a snap-on installation. I used a 7970m heatsink from a GX60. Majster has them. I'm afraid the heatsink won't fit for the G73JH as it's made specifically for the MSI models. Heatpipes can't be bent post-production, you know
Regarding the VBIOS, my GT780DX did not have any issues with the 7970m installed except the auto fan speed. Apparently a BIOS limitation blocked the EC from reading the exact temperature of the GPU and set it at a fixed 0 value so the fan would not react once I put it under load. VBIOS-es should be interchangeable. Better use a Dell one. More compatible. 015.017 is the best one in my opinion. Newer revisions break a few things with UEFI compatibility :)

    thanks for the info :)
i know the heatsink wont fit out of the box, im going to de-solder the msi copper heat pipes and re-solder the asus g73jh copper heat pipes and for good measure im going to add a clevo heat pipe. ..... well thats the idear i have all the tools so might as well try it.. nothing ventured nothing gained :) but im confident it will work. i alreadt have 1 a clevo 7970m in this asus g73jh but im not happy with the temps and intend to get better temps with a modded msi heatsink and green msi 7970m. but as for the Vbios to use im just not sure whitch shell be most compatable with a msi 7970m working in an asus i know that the clevo modded vbios alows normal fan control in an asus. so i will try that first.

Hey guys, I have a pretty big problem here. I did a clean reinstallation of windows 7 on my MSI GT780DXR about an hour ago, and when it finally reinstalls, it has no drivers. I go to the site to download the chipset drivers and whatnot, but I keep getting an error when trying to install the chipset driver. A myriad of errors appear when opening it, saying how all of the drivers are not for windows. When I click through all of the errors and try to install the chipset drivers, it still says that my network and ethernet controllers do not have drivers to them, and as such cannot connect to the internet on my computer to install other drivers. I was hoping that somebody could point me in the right direction. My specs are as follows
    CPU: Intel 2760QM
    GPU: 570M
    with 16 gigs of ram

Please help me, I have searched all over and am stumped.

EDIT: Just fyi, I downloaded the Version 9.2.0.1030 chipset driver, didn't work. Through all the errors it says that it was not designed to run on windows, or contains an error.

EDIT2: Upon looking through all of the errors, it seems that all of them are coming from the Lang folder. I am not sure what this means, however. I am currently trying another clean install to see if I can fix anything.

EDIT3: Ok, after doing a clean reinstall and downloaing the current latest chipset driver, I have run into a new problem. When trying to install the ethernet controller, it says that the realtek network controller was not found, and something about deep sleep mode. I am currently trying to find out the reason as to why this is happening now.

make sure you download the drivers for your windows.

if you use windows 7 64 then make usre the dropdown list on the site is for win 7 64.

otherwise by default is for windows 8, that might be the problem.

I have made sure to download everything for windows 7, however I am currently stonewalled on installing the ethernet controller. I tried everything here , however nothing there worked. I figure once I can connect to the computer, getting the rest of the drivers installed should not be as difficult, but currently trying to get the network and ethernet controllers installed is proving to be very troublesome.

Yes, I have, although many of the links are no longer updated and I had to acquire them elsewhere. I am currently planning on resetting my bios (as I do not remember putting a password in, and one is required), and checking on my settings there.

EDIT: I just have the Ethernet Controller and Network Controller showing no drivers, I am trying to figure out just why that is. When I try to install the Ethernet Controller, it still says something about sleep mode (mentioned by me above), and the install fails. I am also planning on going into the BIOS to ensure that the adapter is indeed enabled.

Why do you need a bios password?

Is your Windows 7 installation disk OK?Corrupt?

I just updated post #4973 with some new drivers.

I mostly use Windows 8.1 now on my GT780DX.It was a tough move but....

Visit station-drivers.com at least once a week to keep your drivers up to date.

For utilities MSI threw the GT780/783 owners under the bus a while ago so look at MSI newest models to find newer utility versions
