    Hey,

Haha I really do not know what I did to fix this problem, I just restarted after leaving my battery out for about a half hour, and when I turned it back on, my wireless card was recognized and I can connect to the internet. This allows me to install all of the other drivers that I needed. Thank you for your help WTP, you are always extremely helpful :D

For the life of me, I cannot find the driver for the touchpad.

    I have the gx780.

Synaptics doesnt installed but doesnt load any configurable settings.

And the other version of touch pad, I couldnt find actual link for drivers.

WTH, and msi doesnt even have a link for touchpag driver.

    it's pretty useless w/o drivers

The link I had to the Sentelic Driver from station-divers.com is lost due to their site revamp.

    Try the driver from here:
Download MSI GT780 Notebook Sentelic Multi Touchpad Driver 9.0.4.8 for Windows 7, Windows 7 64 bit

Sometime around November or late October 2011 MSI switched from the Sentelics Touch pad to the Synaptics in the GT models.

I think Smitty has the Sentelics in his GT780DX

My GT780DX was built on Nov 4th 2011 and has the Synaptics Touchpad

So if he chimes in he might share it with you if it's newer than the link I posted..

I've updated post #4973 again with the link above.

Thanks for the reply, I guess that I have the one with the Sentelic touchpad.

As for the link, I've tried that before I posted here.

Soft pedia links back to msi's site where the driver has been removed.

np, it can disable the touchpad if a mouse is plugged in, it's in the driver's icon's (trayarea) settings on the last tab.

    glad to help

why buy a new touchpad? i just plug in my razer naga and forget about the touchpad. i really have no use for it once my mouse is plugged in.. unless you plan to game on the touchpad lol

but i agree that for the amount of money these gaming laptops fetch (1700$ 2years ago) they should have top of the line hardware all around. same for the webcam, mic and wifi card. buggy usb 3 in dos mostly. that was a let down, but yunno what? after a couple years its not so bad. i have an old M$ webcam, i use that the mic's 10times better but not hd.

i upgraded the wifi to intel ac 7260, its not without consequences but they are minor (driver).

Can't do anything for the usb ports as it would require a whole new mobo and that's just too costly for that feature. plus intel 4th gen i7 now has usb built in so it wouldnt be bad to get a new cpu while at it.

    The rest, i'm happy with.

the usb 3 isn't really a bother unless you want to reinstall windows from a flashdrive. in which case there's a workaround but we shouldn't have to. MSI doesn't make the usb 3 port thus i can't fault them for that bug.

so over all, 2 years after the purchase, i've had my share of fun with it.

    Here's to the next 2 years !

    lol

quick question, when i install w7 and i change the size of the font to say 125% , after that every time i boot up it flashes black for like a micro second just before the logon apears (i guess while its reading fonts?)

but the msi version of windows doesn't do that flash to black, i wonder how they did that.

that's basically the only reason i use the recovery partition is to avoid that on every boot and have a nice smooth booting flow. but its getting on in age and the pre-installed drivers are kind of old and more work to remove and update all of them.

i'd like to make my own boot recovery on a usbstick and keep the drivers uptodate on it while avoiding the black flash, is there a procedure to follow ?

This is what I use on my Windows USB installation media created with a Digital River Windows Ultimate x64 ISO linked in post #4973

Unpack the downloaded RAR file and put the $OEM$ folder into the sources folder of your Windows installation flash drive.

Delete ei.cfg from the sources folder

So this ensures that the font size is 125% without blinking at boot ?

kudos again for that install procedure, i follow it dutifully

hey guys, well i bit the bullet and opened up my bezel tonite. it was touch and go for a bit while i pried off the front bezel from the screen, it was still glued on with factory glue to the lcd frame.

Check out the pix of the hinges and screw sockets ! man what da heck happened back there ?

The screws and their sockets completely tore off the plastic casing !

It's gotta be a factory defect or bad design choice on these models. All metal hinges on all plastic backing ? Something had to give and this is the result.

Once i got the hinges removed from the chassis (3rd pic) , i straightened them out with pliers. Heck if i know why they're so hard to swivel but clearly this is why the plastic and sockets are all torn inside.

    hinge-left.JPG hinge-right.JPG hinges.JPG

Damn that's scary. i think we need some guidelines like lube them every 6 months lol

To think, i kept the cover open all the time i use this machine at home only, and it's heavy so i don't lug this from room to room. i leave it on my desk and that's it.

Not much i can do to fix this is there ?

Buyer beware, be on the look out for these super tight hinges in these models.

ps: today i watched MSI GX70 Destroyer (R9 M290X) Video Review & Unboxing - YouTube and the hinges there were super tight too. At one point (3:55) the guy was showing the viewing angles and he had to hold the screen and the base with both hands to move it up and down, and it's brand new out of the box!

Hi guys, I admittedly didn't get the chance to read everything on this thread. Been able to read that an AMD 7970M Dell card works on the GT780 than a Clevo card. I'd like to ask help in finding out if there have been any successful Clevo 7970Ms flashed with a Dell VBIOS to work on a GT780?

Thanks guys and more power to this thread. xD

Hello guys, my GTX560M card failed like a month or so back and I got a replacement off ebay which according to seller was an Alienware GTX560M (brand new).

I installed the card and drivers with modded inf from laptopvideo2go.com thanks to hints and helps from gentech rep guys in this thread.

I encountered a small problem after that tho, the card is ok but I was getting driver crashed and recovered error left and right. I managed to fix the problem, so I figured I mention it here to give back a little to the community.

I used the below fix and no longer getting the dreaded error which caused a black screen for couple of seconds and crashed games or flash player whichever was running.

    Here's the link:

"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error in Windows 7 or Windows Vista

So for keywording it properly again, that was the fix for GT780 Geforce GTX560M Display driver stopped responding and has recovered.

    Keep up the good work.

Hi, I am new to this forum and I am having a problem with my s-bar. I tried uninstalling it and re-installing it. It has only recently stopped working (like a week ago) if anybody else is having this problem and figured it out any help would be much appreciated! The message i get is S-Bar has stopped working and says i will be notified if there is a solution.

Can I ask you what you use/need the S-Bar for?

    I have a Gt780DX and haven't installed the S-Bar in nearly 2 years.

If you only use it to eject the CD/DVD tray you could create a drive shortcut instead.

I don't have the optical drive installed in my unit.I have it in an external USB enclosure.

I have a 3rd SSD in a caddy in the optical bay.

The only MSI utility I install now is KLM.

I'm using Windows 8.1 Pro x64 with the Spring 2014 update sometimes referred to as Windows 8.1.1 and Windows 7 x64 on 2 other drives.

Whatsup everyone, have one question here.

Any way to override P1 touch-button to work as a program shortcut or mute shortcut instead of launching turbo mode toggle on/off? Program shortcut works via FN+F4(P1) only but I only get turbo mode toggle if try to use touch button pressing P1.

FYI I don't have MSI turbo tool setup, but it triggers what Im talking about here if I touch the P1 on the panel (not that it makes any effect or changes on GPU clocks etc.)

As far as changing the EC function to do what you wanted, only MSI can provide such modification.
Additionally, you can use nircmd to do it.
NirCmd - Windows command line tool
    -> nircmd.exe mutesysvolume 1

Or Svet at MSI forum can assist you with this request.

    Hello everyone!

I've got a question if there is anyone who uses IC Diamond TIM because I've just dissasembled my stock GT780DX in order to repaste and change thermal pads and noticed this crap on my CPU and GPU. [IMG]
Now I'm like what the hell is that because I was using IC Diamond for 3 times and never seen something like this before. I was trying to remove those spots with isopropyl alcohol and even gently used scalpel to see if I can scratch out this but no result.
Does anybody know what I can do with those spots or if I can just forget about them and repaste with no further problems.

Looking forward for Your help guys.
    Cheers!

Hi i'm new on this forum. I come from France and own a GT780DXR... but the graphic card recently died (though i'm very carefull to always use my laptop on a support with fans to be sure it's well ventilate).
So i'm here to search for advice for changing my GPU and/or find one for sale. (never changed a component in a laptopt, before...)

Anyway, i'm happy to discover this forum, seems to be full of interesting people and informations!

I'm sure there is already a thread somewhere with the list of GPU that are compatible with my GT780DXR. Anyone can link it to me, please?

As far as i know the best options for now are GTX 770M and AMD 7970M but both of them will require form you to change heatsink. Probably Dell versions of this cards works best with our laptop but I will do more reserach for you because I know i had somewhere link for thread whete ppl were disscusing GPUs fitting GT780. Maybe someone will be faster with this stuff and will post here ASAP.

    Cheers!

If you have a GTX570M graphics card a GTX770M will work without a need to change the heatsink. You will need to use a modded driver from laptopvideo2go for it to work.

Thank you, gacu13 and WhatsThePoint for your answers, that's very kind of you.
You're right : i'd like to keep same heatsink and just want my laptop to be working again, with the fewest change possible and the cheaper price. ;-)

I also contacted the after-sales service of MSI France and they say i can also chose to send them my computer for full repair (and it'll probably cost around 400€).
As far as i don't have a spare GPU to test if it's the only problem on my GT780, i hesitate.

@WhatsThePoint : i'm new to laptop, but i used to fix my old computer myself. What's the thermal pad used for? is it a replacement for the heat paste?

Last question : i tried to type something like
    Code:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/584869-official-msi-gt780-gt783-owners-lounge-934.html#post8880
to read the post you pointed, but it doesn't work, any other way to find them easily that i didn't see?

Yes you are right, my falut. 7970m requires new heatsink and 770m. I thought so because I saw there is option to mount new version of HS with additional pipe called "brigde".

    @Bhumi.Vraja

Thermal pads are sticky stripes which are essential to feel the gaps between your heatsink and VRMs and other modules located on GPU. Also they transfer heat from those modules to HS. If you are going to replace GPU yourself you will need them becasue they are as important as new paste.

Refering to my problem with stains on GPU and CPU: I also tried to remove them with acetone but still no help. Any ideas what can remove them?

Listen to Meaker my friend, hope is all well and good, but it is wiser to listen to those with the knowledge and experience.

The 7970M is a beast of card without enduro to hinder it so I would not worry too much.

Well last Wednesday night my GT780DXR started to smoke from the DC port... Luckily I still have warranty until September.
I did a RMA that night, and got approved an hour later.
I sent it in for repair Thursday morning.
They received it at the repair center Friday morning, according to UPS.
Now I'm just stuck on the "Approved" status.
I called Monday evening and they told me they have no information about it being there, and to call Tuesday... I got the same reply, to call today.
    This is frustrating.

Would it be possible to get help from PowerNotebooks on getting MSI to hurry up and at least get better information from them?

I called again, apparently they can't find it.
They also said my tracking number doesn't work (It does, I gave them the correct number, I checked after getting off the phone with them).

I contacted MSI customer support by email, told them what was going on, gave them the tracking number and also a screenshot of the confirmation of it being delivered. The RMA status changed within two hours to WIP (work in progress?).
I'm going to call in the morning to make sure that they found it.

I upgraded my gtx560m and I have now a GTX770M. It works well with modified drivers. I used a guide in this thread to do that.

I have this problem> My CPU 2630qm sometimes goes to energy saver for some seconds. I know this because I see it in Turbo Boost Monitor. It happens even if I am in Gaming mode or High performance mode in power options. But it happen while i am playing games and fps drops to 15.. it has nothing to do with temperature, it happens with 60C or lower temperature.

What can I do to avoid that energy saver? There is no option I can modify in the bios setup. And there is no option in windows to avoid that.

    Or is there?
