running over the sides is fine, its jsut if the white square gets in the way of it making contact you may have to file some of it down where it touches the square.

    thats all

I appreciate the info smitty. I decided i'm going to wait for my gtx460 heatsink to arrive in the mail and just use that. It should be less of a headache (for me at least).

    two things.

I decided to order some arctic mx-4 and use that on my gpu and cpu instead of the arctic silver 5 I have been using forever. You guys think that was a good choice?

Second thing is, I went to order some fujipoly thermal pads from frozencpu.com http://www.frozencpu.com/products/1...rmal_Conductivity_110_WmK.html?tl=g8c487s1288 , but it turns out you can't complete an order from the site because the company has gone out of business (rumor has it). It seems frozencpu was the only place I could find the fujipoly thermal pads. Does anyone have any recommendations of some quality thermal pads for a laptop gpu, or a good website that sells some?

Anyone tested a 980m in this laptop?

Tried asking over in the GT60/GT70 upgrade tread but not getting anything concrete.

Very tempted to be the guinea pig but the wife would kill me if I spend £550 and it doesn't work...

Removed both hard drives, then booted, and my USB drive showed up in F11 boot menu.
After a day of pulling my hair out. 30H works so much better then 30B and the bio's works good.
Tomorrow I'll throw in the 2860QM processor.
If all go's well I'll order the HyerX impact Black and go from 16GB ram to 32GB.

Hey everyone, i'm hoping to get a little help. My touch buttons across the top of the laptop (for enabling wifi, bluetooth, ejecting the cd tray etc) stopped working sometime ago and id really like to get it too work. I once downloaded a star bar replacement that was supposed to fix it, and it did for some time but since has stopped working. Can anyone point me in the right direction? This is for a GT780 DXR.

    Thanks in advance!

Have you tried checking if the cable under the touch buttons is properly attached?

Can you disconnect AC adapter and battery for like a 10 seconds, then reconnect power to verify?

Under the touch bar there's a flat ribbon cable that connects the touchbar to the mainboard.
Look at the linked disassembly video at about 3:20 minutes in.

If the cable is not connected at both ends the touchbar won't work.

Using a thin plastic knife or guitar pick inserted between the touchbar and lower case by the outer edges of the speakers pop the touchbar up at both end and work around the whole edge.It only snaps in.There are no screws holding it down.

I installed the 970m and my laptop turned on! Unfortunately, I ran in to another problem. One of my raid drives failed. Has anyone ever had this happen to them? The hard drives were stock WD500gb hard drives. Is it possible to repair the failed hard drive? Is it possible to salvage the information on it? (to my understanding all of the information is lost off of both hard drives due to raid-0 creating pieces of data on both hard drives) Should I buy 2 new hard drives and configure them as raid?

Hey people. My friend with AW18 bought 2x 970M and he found that flashing vBIOS is very tricky there or close to impossible. Mr. Fox suggested that it might be easier to flash those in another notebook.
I believe it is easy to flash it on GT780, right? Should I use dos nvflash or latest modded one for windows flashing? Any other tips I should know if I try?

    Thanks!

    Hey all,

I was just wondering if anyone can tell me how to check to see if the subwoofer is working. I am using the THX software that came installed as well as the Realtek HD Audio but I can't seem to get the Realtek software to route any sound through it in any of the four presets (Stero, Quadraphonic, 5.1 or 7.1) when testing the speakers.

Install a version of Realtek HD Audio with Dolby

The latest is build WHQL from Microsoft Update 7487+dolby

I have it installed and set to 5.1 so the Sub Woofer appears

Look at attachment for custom settings of Audio Manager

I just got the card radeon amd 7970M, I modified the sink and mounted the board, unfortunately, black screen.

The vbios think it is 015,022,000.

You don't have the right vbios. You need the 015.017 to make it work. You need to flash with another laptop wich is compatible with this vbios ( alienware ).

Hello all. I've recently purchased a GTX 970m graphics card.
I modified my heatsink and installed it.
Once I booted my computer I proceeded by attempting to install the latest nvidia driver which was 350.12.
After about 4 seconds of running the driver it says "NVIDIA installer cannot continue, This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware."
I looked in device manager and listed under "display adapters" is "standard VGA graphics adapter".
If anyone has any idea of how to fix or any helpful suggestions to sling my way I would greatly appreciate it.

    - Possibly Helpful Information -
    - Just did a fresh install of windows 7 64bit home premium, tried installing the driver before updating all the drivers and after with the same results.
    - My laptop is a MSI gtx780dxr. My bios version is E1761IMS V3.0H
    - I have not manipulated or updated and I have not tried to install any bios, video bios, or graphics drivers as of yet.

If there is any more information you would like from me I will be glad to give it to you.
    Thanks! Have an awesome day!

Driver must be with modded Inf. Google more about this Alienware owners always mod drivers.

Hey James, thanks for the response.
I went ahead and tried multiple INF modded drivers (provided by talon on his upgrade page) with no success. Every time I try to install a driver it says "NVIDIA installer cannot continue".
I've also reset my bios to default settings, but that didn't help.
I also tried disabling the display driver in device manager hoping it would do something, but that didn't help either.

With my 7970m i always used 30H unlock bios.
Right now i upgraded with a 970m and using 10H unmodified. But honestly i don't think that'll change something.

Windows 10 Insider Preview on GT78x series.

Naturally no 1 OS is for everyone.

You are not forced to use any OS by anyone but yourself.

If any of you owners of these oldie but goodie notebooks are wondering about how Windows 10 is working on them I'll try to sum it up.

Different builds have have different issues(still beta builds) but on the whole the experience is getting near every day driver quality if that's the route you wish to take.

As of now the Official NVIDIA WHQL Windows 10 GeForce graphics driver 352.84 doesn't support 5 series notebook GPUs so driver signing needs to be disabled in order to install a modded inf.

The newest build 10122 released yesterday "includes" updated drivers for the card reader,Realtek Lan and Renesas USB 3.0 Controller.

A newer Realtek HD Audio 7509 +Dolby driver can be downloaded from Station-Drivers.

The Windows 7/8 KLM keyboard manager works on Windows 10 IP build 10122

Your wireless card driver may also need to be updated with a newer WHQL drivers.

Build 10122 has issues with AMD GPUs and CPUs.

Some issues with IE but not for everyone.

I have the stock NVIDIA GTX570M with modded 352.84 driver and it seems to work OK.

I have 2 other SSDs in the GT780DX with Windws 7 x64 Ultimate and Windows 8.1 x64 Pro that's my daily driver.

Widows 10 strives to be a very secure OS so mods you may be doing on 7 and 8.1 may not be allowed on 10.
