Seems like Nvidia 570M is about $250 right now so you wouldn't really be blowing $500+.

Just upgraded to the 7970M last night for ~$350 (including the matching heatsink and a 180W power adapter) off eBay. Very pleasing upgrade; I'd highly recommend it if you're looking at a replacement.

Keep in mind,if you are planning on using Windows 10 when released on July 29th,that the 5 series and older are not supported with present NVIDIA GeForce drivers for Windows 10.

Only 6,7,8 and 9 series of GPUs are supported.

So if you need to replace your graphics card the newest supported series is probably the best way to go.

Is it a clean install on an SSD or HDD?

Did you download the 10130 ISO directly from Microsoft so that it's original and untouched?

Did you try uninstalling Net Framework and then installing the latest version?
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/microsoft_net_framework_cleanup_tool.html
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_dotnet_framework_4/

You may also need to install Net Framework version 3.5 for some apps and games to work correctly.

I had 10130 running without issue on a GT780DX before updating to 10147

    Hello there,

I'm having a hard drive issue. My raid hard drives that came with the laptop (msi gt780dxr) have failed on me. They were in a raid setup by default. After they failed I took them out and ordered a seagate 1tb hybrid hard drive. I went ahead and turned on aschi in my bios and installed a fresh copy of windows on my new seagate 1tb hybrid hard drive. Everything is working great.

    PROBLEM:
My problem is when I ordered a second seagate 1tb hybrid hard drive. I stuck that sucker in to my other hard drive slot and booted up. Unfortunately it was not detected by anything, even device drivers. I then questioned if my hard drive was broken or if my motherboard hard drive slot is broken. I found out (through testing the hard drive in a different laptop) that the hard drive works just fine.

    QUESTION:
My question is if the problem is the hard drive not being recognized because the hard drive slot on my motherboard is bad or is it because I did not disable my raid setup correctly or if two identical seagate 1tb hybrid hard drives cannot be used together.

If anyone has any experience with this or knows anything that might help I would appreciate the help. Thanks!

    -Nick

Try to put working HDD to a second slot and check if it's recognized to see if slot is working.

If HDD can be seen by BIOS then it's working, you just need to use Disk Management to take care of it.

I did that and the working HDD is not recognized by the second slot.

The HDD is not seen by BIOS.

Could the second slot be malfunctioned/destroyed? or could it be a matter of me not disabling my RAID setup correctly when I removed my old raid hard drives or even a matter of me not setting/configuring these hard drives correctly?

Have you swapped the drives within the system? Verify the drive that doesn't work originally to the other bay, and the same for the other drive. Find out the outcome and determine what to do from there.

I have verified that both drives work. I have determined the outcome, which is the 2nd bay does not work. I do not know if this is due to the 2nd bay being flat out broken, or if there is a configuration I have missed (maybe when taking out the raid setup or setting up the new drives). Figured I would ask on this forum in hopes that someone has experienced a similar issue or might have some words of wisdom for me.

Check the connector on the PCB, verify the contact as well.
Hopefully there isn't any loose connection, or curled up metal contacts on the contact itself.

I checked the connector on the PCB. Everything seems to be fine by the looks of it. Is there any way to find out if the connector on the PCB is bad?

When a raid0 array is broken the member disks need to be made as non member disks in the Intel Raid Utility that's accessed when the bios is set to Raid.

If you don't set them to non member disks they may have trouble being recognized when bios set to AHCI

If you have access to another Windows PC try setting up each drive as basic volume>format and initialize.

    Control Panel>Administrator Tools>Computer Management>Disk Management

Then return them to the notebook you want to use them in one at a time without any other drives in the notebook.

The SATA Connector in the P1 position(2nd SATA bay) is held in by 1 screw.Take it out and put it back in.

I have 3 SSDs in my GT780DX,each with a different version of Windows,7 Ultimate x64,8.1 Pro x64 and 10 Insider Preview build 10162 Pro x64

At one time,1 HDD for unknown reason was not recoqnized in bay 2 while bay 1 was occupied. Now all is well

Did anyone manag to re-solder DC input? And even more, did anyone manage to create 1 line from DC to another 1-inch farer location if original connection burnt motherboard?

Does anyone have schematics of GT780 laptop? Really need it.

Sometimes, when the jack breaks off from the PCB and takes some of the base part on the PCB itself which makes it difficult to resolder the jack thus requiring a replacement of PCB. If it's not the case then it's possible to resolder it, but structural-wise this repaired part may be more fragile.

If it's possible, let MSI perform the repair/replacement for you.

I have had the jack resoldered where there was minor damage to the PCB, a solder track was created over the PCB to carry the power to the first passive component, but this should only be done by someone who is experienced.

This sounds like that may be the issue. When one of my raid hard drives failed I just took them straight out of my laptop without disabling any raid profiles or settings. I'm going to take the old raid hard drives and install them and then disable the setting and then reinstall my hybrid drives. I'll let you know how it goes.

To the people who suggested a possible soder pch issue, thanks for the input, I hope that is not the issue as the port on the pcb looks to be ok. I will keep you posted

Sorry guys for taking long time to come back, was doing medical inspection so had no time at all.
Yes, but OEMs usually just replace whole board and charge 40% of notebook when its new and 60-70% of current value if it's that old.
Meaker, can I PM you with photos of my current situation on motherboard and questions where to create a road? I have a friend of a friend who is claimed to be a very good solderman. If I give him nice and clear instructions... I may resurrect GT780. As of now I have just multiple videos from youtube where I can't clearly say what to which leg/contact of a nearby chip to connect.

If it's a light damage then yes you can resolder it as Meaker said, but if it's severe then you can't, because even if you resolder it the problem will come back easily due to weakened part.
Regarding the repair cost, I believe MSI in the US charge about $300 something with parts and labor combined. It is not a small amount but you do pay about $100+ if you hire someone outside, then plus the DC jack which cost about $20, more or less.

It's fine if you can get another same model to test with.
Otherwise, it would be difficult unless you can overcome heatsink compatibility to try on a different notebook.

Does anyone know what size of thermaltape/pads i need for the GPU and CPU heatsinks? I replaced my thermal paste but all the pads got all dusty, so I'm planning to buy new ones. But i can't seem to see what size of thickness i need. Also could someone post pictures of the position of the thermal pads? I can't remember what chips i need to cover with the pads anymore.

When I was benching and tweaking I used 0.5mm across all components, this aided heat transfer to the core.

Buy the 0.5mm type as WhatsThePoint & Meaker mentioned, cut to the size you need, then apply each pad carefully.
Additionally, clean the existing thermal compound, then apply IC diamond which can help to reduce around 2 C.

    Hello guys.

    I have a problem with my GT780-034:
When plugging the charger, the light on the charger goes out.
After looking on the net, it means that there is a short-circuit in the motherboard. I pinpoint that problem to the gtx560M: When I remove the MxM card, the computer works properly but the screen remains black (not even the bios screen). Even though the screen is out, I can still wait for it to start and then connect using a remote desktop (so every other component works well but the GPU).

It seems very complicated to find a replacement to the gtx560m on the net (I tried putting mine in the oven but no luck). Since the rest of the computer is working, I would like to be able to use it.
I was wondering if you knew of a possibility to be able to make the gt780 run without a graphic card plugged in? I assume that the processor can handle the graphic because it is doing it when I use the remote desktop.
Even a temporary solution would be interesting (see the bios and reinstall the OS) because turning the computer into a screenless server would be nice for me.

Thank you very much for your help

    Alban

There are several root causes for this symptom.
    1. As what you have found, PCB issue.
    2. AC adapter is defective, because it cannot handle the load with GPU in it. This is similar to a worn-out battery which can no longer supply sufficient voltage therefore abruptly shutting off upon heavy load.
My suggestion is since you don't have either spare part to test out so you may need to start with the cheapest route before moving into a replacement motherboard or GPU or both because either one will be costly.

i have a very similar issue on my 780-044
it will randomly shutdown and restart after a few seconds...
so first i tought it was a power issue and since my battery died a year ago, i bought a new one.
but that didnt work, i suspect has seen a few post above that my gpu does not get enough power, so i ordered in a last resort a digital multimeter to check output on my charger, i should receive it tomorrow.
if that does not work i guess the gpu or motherboard are dead and i guess i will have to change...

I just fixed a problem very similar to yours. Turned out to be the power plug soldered onto the motherboard needed to be re-soldered, the center positive pin had broken free from the motherboard and kept shorting out. Luckily I didn't have to replace the jack but if you do they are only a couple bucks on ebay. Youtube has a couple of videos to help you take the gt780 apart that are quite detailed. Post back if you get her fixed.

It's 99.9% impossible to desolder DC jack of MSI at home. It takes extremely high temperature.

will try in a last resort... i'm not super confident in taking apart everything.

An issue I have with my GT780DX shutting down is due to a drive being in the secondary SATA bay.

With only a drive in the 0 position I have no issues with shut downs.

With a drive in the 0 position and in a caddy in the ODD bay there's no problems.

The SATA connector in position 1 is the issue for me.

My GT780DX is nearing 4 years old.At a little over the 2 year mark the motherboard,GTX570M graphics card and 16 GB (4x4GB) of memory modules were replaced by MSI under a 3rd party warranty.

My notebook is on AC power 24/7/365 using the 4 year old original MSI 180W AC adapter.

The original battery still holds about a 30 minute charge but I don't keep it in the notebook

so it seems i have the same issue, after checking the correct output on the charger i noticed that when plugged in the led for battery charging can flicker or switch off depending on the plug position..
i tried taking it apart but after almost 4years the heatsink on the gpu wont move and i didnt want to force too much, so i dont really know what to do

Once the screws are properly loose you can pull pretty hard on the GPU heatsink.

Any 17.3" 40 pin LVDS panel with a connector on the same side as yours will fit.

Can anyone recommend me a compatible HDD (500GB+) to replace my stock one? I haven't replaced this component before.

This one has gone faulty. Don't really need an SSD.

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178340 <- is 2.5" the size I need? This one looks good

Interestingly enough my hinge just encountered an issue yesterday (the two plastic pieces are coming apart that holds the screen together, near the hinge). Anyone else have this issue? I think I should use an adhesive.
