Is the body actually aluminum or metal? OR is it just plastic that looks like it? I have a HPTM2T and one of the things I've loved about it is the metal body which feels much more durable as opposed to the plastic that is common.

I don't trust 3dmark's marketing hardline.
You must lend it more cred than I do.
I find a standard "no one gets to edit the settings" and "everyone runs the same test" to be more reliable than trusting 3dmark to even the scales.
Thanks Ken for the benchmarks... -
I know the story about the key stolen but did anyone was recently able to have Dirt3 with the coupon that come with the GTX780DXR?
I have completed the online form last Wednesday and send a picture of the coupon but still no key in my email box. I try also to contact the support but no response... -
I get an error every time I try to submit my information on the dirt3 promo page. It's been like that for a while...
-
Actually Ken from Gentech PC also agrees that this screen is nearly as good as TV.Finally the viewing angle is not worse then my old Matte display.
Cheers -
Maybe it's down again, last week, once completed, the first page send you to another one where they ask for a scan/picture of the coupon and said that they will send you the steam key by email... I guess they had many people try to scam them after the key fiasco.

I see many folks are pleased with their new GT780DXR. I too, am delighted, and happy to report zero problems or issues. I am especially happy with the 2860QM, and the Intel 510 SSD..... the notebook is extremely responsive, performance is stellar...... this thing is FAST! When I think of the notebooks I have owned over the years, this one strikes me as one of the most gratifying. So much so, I am considering a GT780 to upgrade my wife's aging Toshiba. Also, mega kudos to Ken for excellent service, terrific support, and speedy upgrades.
On a side note.......
Don't overlook MSI's warranty requirements folks! Registering the notebook is simple enough, but requires an extra step beyond 'online' registration. After doing this online, you will receive an email that states:
Enjoy!

Do you guys think that the i7-2670 will make a huge difference over the 2630. As far as I can tell it is just the extra 200mhz that its the change. Will 200mhz significantly change the fps or speed of the machine? Also it is not due till mid October time on the GT780DXRs. Thanks

Does he have a Synaptics, or Sentelic touchpad? The path is a little different if he has a Sentelic touchpad.

So,
2630 updates to 2670 in Oct, +200 mhz (original poster asking about this), and
2720 updated to 2760 a couple of weeks ago. -
. Since you cant overclock, its neat to get this FREE. I mean. Nothing is free, but this is ( to some degree ).
If you play games like e.g. HOMM V, AoE II, Diablo II, San Andreas, CoD 4 / 6 ( maybe even Blops ) --> aka not demanding games --> then i would say you are going to do just fine with the 2630QM. However, for extra speed, faster response times, faster loading times, and extra gaming speed ( which with the GTX570M might yield some FPS gain ) i would choose the 2670, or even better - 2760QM (
.....
)
Especially then, since its for the SAME price as older 2720QM AND performs better then 150 bucks more expensive 2820QM!!! Now dont get me wrong Striker, and here i would like to hear your reason behind the following, but to me, upgrading from 2760 to 2860 is useless
, since it gives you +100 mhz and 2mb cache, which in case of Sandy Bridge and Older 1156 CPUs didnt matter. Actually, even with lower cache ( also 2 MB ) they are better then 1156 CPU for gaming.
Thats just my opinion about the 2860. But i am sure about the 2670/2760. If you do not have the time, and you would rather have your laptop at home as soon as possible, then do it. Order now. And buy 2630. But i would consider those extra 200mhz which are really free and you will see that you needed them.
Least but not last, with the new CPU you gonna sell the laptop better when that time comes. People will rather buy "new" then "old" you know.
If i would be you ( like i was) then i will choose the 2760, but that depends on the funds that you can spend, right.

Trying to find info in this thread is nigh impossible, or maybe it really hasn't been talked about yet.
Does anyone have experience with Ubuntu 11.04 on the GT780R? What features didn't function correctly? I'm trying to figure out if I am biting off more than I can chew by creating a multiboot system between that, Win7 and OSX Lion.
And no, I haven't even looked into what it will take to run Lion- I figured if things went well with installing Ubuntu alongside 7, that Id look at that next. -

DANG, how is it I get drug into 'Processor Wars'? I upgraded to a 2860QM because I can afford it, and I wanted to...... plain & simple! How someone configures their system is a personal choice, and I don't need anyone telling me what I SHOULD have purchased..... or what would have been SMARTER..... and I am DANG sure not obliged to any explanation of my choices. (but you got one anyway, didn't ya?)
I am very happy with my 2860QM, SSD, etc., the entire notebook for that matter, so kiss my grits and eat my dust sucka!
LOL!

Hello all! This is my first post after a few days of creeping on this forum. I've ordered a GT780DXR-099US a few days ago. I have an expected delivery date of Oct14-Nov1!! Is this due to a high demand for this computer or is because of the updated processors that will be shipped oct1? This is the first machine that I will attempt to OC. What are some good settings for a safe and stable OC for a NOOB like myself? I look forward to learning a lot from you guys!
Edit, I bought it will all the stock options -
2) OC really depends on the components you get with your computer for how HIGH it can go- however I have the GT780R, and there is a built in OC feature that has some preset clock speeds. I wouldn't vary from these too terribly much at first, until you have some more experience. -

newbie here.
My GT780DXR-99US that is just a couple of weeks old and the BlueRay drive is having issues. The soft button lights when pressed but the drive does not open. Paper clip it open and the computer does not see the drive or the disc.
I put a tech email into MSi 9/19, I hope it is a simple fix. -
Hey guys, I just got my GT780DX today and I am absolutely loving it!
I also bought a 120GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD to put into my other (empty) Hard Drive compartment. However, when I opened up the back cover, I noticed that there are no holding tray/screws that hold the drive in place at the empty Hard Drive compartment, and I cannot find it anywhere in the box.
I can place the SSD in there no problem but it's easily shifted around. Is there anywhere that I can buy this tray? Is it universal for all laptops?
Thanks! Any help would be greatly appreciated. -

My computer behaves similarly if the "S-Bar" application is not running.
S - Bar is running.
MSi emailed me back with a possible solution power down, remove batteries, unplug, hold power button in for 30 seconds, restart with just A/C power.... It didn't fix it. -
Some possibilities off the top of my head:
1)Not sure if the drive is a socket or cable based connection. If it's a cable based one, you may be able to go online and look at how to remove and reseat the connection. It may be as simple as something not connecting properly.
2)The drive might be dead- in which case, you'll have to get an RMA from MSI, and ship the unit back to them. Speaking from past experience with other companies- MSI's policies may differ.
I am betting the light appearing on the access bar is a red herring- it's very likely from what you're describing, the Bluray drive isn't even receiving power. Is the drive registering in the BIOS at all? -

REPLY: If i use a paper clip to open the drive and put a disc in it does spin-up so believe it has power.

You might want to try re-install MSI S-Bar program. -
What's the downside of just picking and choosing which bloatware to delete rather than a wipe?
-
If I remember correctly you only need to remove one screw to remove the drive. Mine was located right under the warranty sticker. I poked the screw driver through the sticker and removed the screw. Then I opened the drive and pulled on the tray with even pressure and the drive came right out.
It might be worth trying reseating first rather than RMA. -
Apart form that I had no more issues. Well the new Ubuntu looks great on it and all the new 3D desktop rotation and what not can be enabled without any issues. I installed Ubuntu on the second drive and opted to load Grub only on that drive. While booting you can choose which drive to boot from else it will load Windows directly or when interrupted to boot from second drive you get the Grub menu. This can be a safer way not to disturb your Windows drive and it's boot loader.
Cheers -
and im getting it october fisrt
ooohhhhh noooo thats toooo bad :'(
-
I use CC Cleaner too. Guess i will have to be careful about what i am going to delete. I am going to make my lappy extra clean.
I wanted to make my desktop clean, but now i have images in this folder, and other images in THAT folder, and games there on this disk, and movies on that disk. CHAOS INCARNATE !
Anyway, i hope that my dreams come true, and i am going to be able to manage my free space better then the previous times. I need to make a seperate folder for everything
Also, do any of you guys use ESET Smart Security 5 ? I have a free upgrade since i own a 3 PCs license, but i am too lazy to find out whats new in version 5But i will install it on my Laptop as well just to be secured. Seem ESET Smart Security 4 isnt bad either.
-
so i call MSI to fix my keyboard issue and the best they can offer me is RMA where i have to spend 20-30 bucks to ship it to them and wait 1-2 weeks for it to return.
for a problem on their end that i had no control over whatsoever , this seems pretty messed up -
Guys Thanks for the replies to my original post on the 2630 and 2670 BUT I have an issue I can EITHER get the processor (NOT 2670 but the 2720 replacement 2760) or a intel 510 120gb ssd. Which would be better? 2 more questions:
1. Would it be easier to upgrade the processor in the future, in other words would it be worth getting a fast ssd now and upgrade the processor in the future?
2. The other question is I really only want to game, then the usual word, excel and internet usage. Also may ocassionally want to do some video, sound and photo editing but that could be on the rare occasion so is it worth upgrading the processor to the 2760? (The reason I cannot afford to get both the ssd and the processor (upgrade to the 2760) is that I am in the UK and shipping as you can understand is not a cheap thing, also just want to say that Ken has amazing customer service while I am here writing)
I also want the computer quite quickly as I have not had a laptop since July time when I sold my previous one.
Thanks for any replies in advance -
Get the SSD... The performance difference in matter of daily use will be huge.
You may upgrade the CPU to the one posted by you in the future which means it will be cheaper then now. -

If your receipt does not have your notebook's serial number, or if you do not have a receipt, get with Donald as soon as possible. You may want to get with Donald anyway ( [email protected]), and let him know your warranty registration concerns. He should be able to assist you due to your special circumstances.
-
The extension of the warranty is only available for US and Canada customers.
