Maybe...only way to find out is to ask them :p. I know most retailers here do the 3% cash discount. So, just throw them an e-mail and they should reply shortly.

    Finally found mine in Canada.
MSIGT780DX-263US, basic model but at only 1640$ after taxes/shipping (1549$ base price). Sweet deal.

I conveniently have an SSD lying around, does the DX model come with any kind of caddy/rubber stop?
It's nice that it comes with 2x4GB too, easy to upgrade should the need arise.

    Can't wait to get it!

PowerNotebooks.com has better pricing than either of them, plus you can get
    the 3% cash discount

Got my GT780DXR-099 US today!!!! I'm in the process of xferring all my files/games/music ect...

no screen issues, the keyboard is perfect with even lighting, no touchpad issues.

The only issue I have is that my Seagate 1tb external go-flex hdd esata is not being recognized on the esata port. Is there a driver I need to download? Is the esata port somehow disabled? It works just fine when plugged into my old lappy's esata.

I did a little research... apparently the esata drive will only work with an esata/usb combo drive. Sad panda, now i need to buy a usb 3.0 cable to get at my files.

Please explain how you got a $100 discount. PowerNotebooks is not cheaper than any other reseller here. I have just seen this claim made twice here (you & bradolaugh), so support it! How so?

    Hey Striker,

Did you try the Bios update, and if so how is it? As I said in an earlier post, it wasn't allowing me to run the flash.bat. Thanks!

i tried to configure one in Gentechpc (Highest),xoticpc, and powernotebooks (cheapest). I configured with same specs and got it for 1852 in powernotebooks, and 1957 in xoticpc. If you still wondering just configure one and see :D

Not yet, but I'll get to it tonight. If the instructions are followed carefully, it 'should' flash correctly. I do recall something fickle in the process, and I posted on this earlier. I'll PM you later on this.

Tell me which model, specifically. You have to take care in how you read the reseller offerings, and make sure you are comparing 'apples to apples'. Again, all 'price match', and all offer the 3% for cash discount.

Ok, thank you! I thought I followed the instructions to the letter, but I may have missed something. Again, it said something about being non-compatible with 64-bit windows in an error display message.

Do you have another pendrive? Your pendrive may be the issue. I have a 4G PNY that gave me fits with the same issue.

    Try this.....

Before using Unetbootin, format your flash drive again to fat32, 4096 bytes. Then set-up the flash drive per the instructions with Unetbootin. When doing so, insure the flash diskimage is set to 'floppy'. When you get into FreeDOS, the instructions say to go from A: to B:..... but (and I know this sounds funny) the flash was nonexistent here...... I had to type C: to find the flash. If you do a 'DIR' at C:, you will see what I mean. This was the fickle thing I couldn't remember earlier, LOL! ALSO, if you are using the bios for mainboard RAID controllers, your drives will be set to RAID by default. Don't forget to reset the bios to AHCI.

Good luck, and let me know how it goes.

    :)

He probably configured different models. If i configure the highest ( 099US ) the difference is there. But if i choose same models ( X8 and 215US ) The difference is 10 bucks. Nothing special, really.

Again, you must compare similar models ;)

You need to add the /x switch in flash.bat with bootable flash disk:

    AFUDOS E1761IMS.30C /p /b /n /r /x

so, while opening up the display cover i noticed a huge design error. The reason why the mic is so horrible is because they never punched out holes where the mic is located. They did however punch them out on the wrong side, but covered it up anyways. It's not too much of a problem for me since I can just use a headset mic. But I was ableto punch out a small hole under each mic hole.

That's because we flashed the BIOS for you before ship, so if you try to flash the same BIOS you wont' have to add the /X switch. :)

You can try the 30C and you will find out you need to add /x the first time.

    Are you unconfused now? :D

Gentech and Xotic are identical pricing, just Xotic is showing you the 3% discount in the price and Gentech is not. Powernotebooks is selling the GT780DX-X8 which is not offered at Gentech or Xotic. The DX-X8 is missing some features but I am not sure which.

Bought it from NCIX, they added it to their special orders. Then you can price match it with the lowest you can find, currently 1549$.
You'll still get heavily taxed in some provinces, but it seems to differ from store to store.

Big thanks, to Ken @ Gentech, for the glossy LCD display! It was very easy to install, and this screen has almost no glare at night and lots of ambient light. There is some subtle glare if the screen is completely black, but that's to be expected and it's not a bother to me. I'll have to check out the glare during the day, but I expected it to not be too bad. Imo, this screen has a better HD potential and is comparable to a HDTV.

It also allowed me to find the major design fail with the mic =/. I'll see if I can post some pictures of the display frame or "bezel".

Can anyone say, 'Price Matching'! Again, all the resellers here offer this, along with free ground shipping, and a 3% discount for cash purchases. The only differences is 'how' the resellers market their product. Some are more gimmicky in their advertising..... while others are more strait-forward.

Since the X8 model is not an official SKU (which may well explain why others are not offering it), I am curious what model number is shown on your MSI box, on MSI's factory sticker..... which shows your notebooks serial number. Your serial number will also ID your actual model.

Anyhow, the other resellers here are also authorized to custom 'build-to order', and can offer the same exact specifications and pricing.

    :)

    :)

EDIT: Yep, sure enough...... $29.00 to disable RAID, and set drives up independently. I guess you'ld have to test their advertised 'Price Matching'.

Aiyo... Stricker... you've been really helpful throughout the thread, but hey, there's already three people claiming the same thing... maybe you'd want to go can try it out yourself instead of being in denial? I'm a huge fan of Ken's too, but if we solely focus on this price argument at hand, so far those two are right.

I guess companies like that have to make money in other ways because they probably can't make good profits based only on selling PC hardware. That being said, I wouldn't ever pay anything to disable raid because it's so easy. I just got done replacing the screen, and I thought that was easy. Regardless, Striker has a point about the price matching. If you truly want to save the most, get it off ebay or something. I got lucky getting my 095US off ebay for $1500 including shipping. I'm at less than 2k now including a 128gb ssd and glossy lcd.

Hmm~ but at exactly same specs and the price shown on website (when looking at before 3% off) Power notebooks is indeed cheaper than others using their X8 model configuration. Although I did realise Gentech offered +0.01 IC diamond pasting so that kind of narrows the price gap to around $30 but still.... Also just a question. X8 is not official SKU, but what happens if you have the resellers modify the official SKU to your preferred configuration? Is that still official SKU or will it be considered along the lines of X8 as well?

Sorry, I also fail to see where these numbers are coming from. From what I can tell these are all the same notebook the GT780DX, except Powernotebooks and Xotic offer 4gb configurations and Gentech has a minimum of 8gb's of RAM.

No change or configurations made without 3% discount. Maybe I am missing something.

    PowerNoteBooks GT780DX-X8 4 gb ram $1479

    Xotic GT780DX-X1 4gb's ram $1509

    Gentech GT780DX-215US 8gb's ram $1485

Each can make up their own mind.

Guys... Like...Are we serious ? Complaining about Store one selling something few bucks cheaper, or other more expensive ? Like... Dont we have our own mind ?

If you think some retailers are screwing with you - and sorry for using such a word but thats where the discussion went - then you choose other retailer.
More experienced guys know that there are differences and that not every model is the same.

It is true that for disabling Raid, that price is kinda absurd, but then again either keep raid or choose different retailer. I hate when such personal information gets into public. Its nice to inform other about the Raid. Cool. Thank you very much. But saying that one retailer sucks and the other is that or what, seems really low to me.

If those of you involved still think that their acting is and was reasonable, then you might as well enlighten me, since i do not see any thing, without a shadow of a doubt, which might make this a reasonable acting that is acceptable for public discussion. In any way shape or form - And i though that here we have to help each other and be friendly, yet we are comparing retailers.

Seems like comparing CoD to BF or some tech retailers...Its never good to do this...

    Angry me, Out !

Buying a notebook is more complex than just the hardware, there is location of sale, service and warranty to consider.

GEE WIZ & OMG! All of the resellers here are reputable, competitive, and offer good service..... though I don't necessarily agree with the marketing tactics of some. The choice of reseller is a personal one. This thread should not be reduced to 'Reseller Wars', or false claims of one over the other.

Meaker is absolutely correct here, and what I was TRYING to point out regarding resellers, TOTALLY flew over most of your heads. Heck, I even had one of you acuse me of advocating for KEN. YES, Ken is my preferred reseller, but if you folks will READ my last few post, you will see I was advocating for ALL resellers here.

I don't understand what is so hard to grasp here, but I'll repeat myself one more time. ALL of the resellers here offer 'PRICE MATCHING', free ground shipping, and the 3% for cash discounts!

YES, sometime product offers will slightly vary, but AGAIN, the resellers here will PRICE MATCH!

It's very simple folks....... choose your preferred reseller (for whatever reason), consider Meaker's point......... and if your resellers price or specs are out-matched, ask your reseller to consider PRICE MATCHING! That's what it's advertised for, so USE it! SIMPLE!

PRICE MATCHING! PRICE MATCHING! PRICE MATCHING! LOL!

Yes yes~ when taking into account all the special promotions and stuff there is only a few dollar difference (talking about $20 ish only here)... however I was just posting what I found out after seeing that people think that the two posts above were lying and was asking for the model. (I myself didn't believe it at first either so I went out of my way to check) I personally haven't bought the laptop so I'm not biased towards any reseller, merely posting the facts.

Umm~ no, the original posts made by ri8 and bradolaugh weren't complaints... they seem to be extremely happy and got a really good deal. Same can't be said for Singh-Is-King, he kinda popped out of nowhere haha. And agree with striker "All of the resellers here are reputable, competitive, and offer good service" It is impossible to even find a GT780 in Taiwan that has a price to come close to what the resellers here offer, which is why I'm here. I envy you people in USA!!!!

Yes I'm very sorry if I caused any inconveniences, and I'll remove all my posts if it affected anyone's business. I thought it was something ok since Striker you made a post about 2 months ago? that Power notebook's price was $50 higher than Gentech's. Although you made it subtle and lighthearted (something along the lines of: it'll be easy to know who to buy from... XP)

Oh and just to put it out there, the prices have became the same as of last night (again just posting facts not interfering with businesses)

On top of that also review return policies as some charge a re-stocking fee for ANY custom system returns and some don't. If pricing is of concern as others have stated use the Pricematch feature, that is what it is there for. :)

Yes, and that discussion was related to the X8 -vs- the 215US official SKU. Furthermore, you don't understand the reasoning there? Price changed, didn't it? Nonetheless, Price Matching!

Mine is fine..... been using Skype with open mic, and voice quallity and noise cancelling are good.

    :)

You got that right! I transferred several gigs of MP3's with my 3.0 flash in seconds, instead of minutes..... a very nice improvement!

    :)

Which touchpad is in my notebook?

    Sentelic driver download

Within the files of the driver package, text and movie files exist, which will answer most touchpad concerns.

    Enjoy!

    :)

A very good point about 're-stocking fees'! I overlooked that point.

    Thanks Justin!

The holes are there for mine too, but the back was not cut out all the way. They have the holes cut out on the other side, but the front of that side is solid. So, it's basically blocked on both sides. I had to use a needle to punch some holes all the way through, while I had the display frame off. Now, it works fine.
