Oh, absolutely. If you go to nVidia's driver download page and pick 500M series, then 570M you get no results, but at least 570M is in there as an option! It means they at least recognize that we exists!

Just hardware configurations...... no cooling changes...... and no 'case' changes. See HERE for more info.

    So I have a problem:
The laptop didn't come with a Windows CD/DVD.
It also has Windows pre-installed on the RAID 0.
Is there a way to seperate Raid?
    Or..
    How do I re-install windows?
I hate not having the CD! Boo

What is your guys take on the screen, Chi Mei N173HGE-L11? I find the anti glare coating to be very bad, leaves a really grainy look on whites and light colors.

Anyone have trouble overclocking the GPU?

I did a fresh install, reinstalled MSI Overclock and Afterburner. My video card's overclocked twice, but has not since. I'm not sure what causes it - I've tried hitting the fan button and closing/reopening both MSIs.

Only different thing was I installed a newer video card update. It was somewhere in this thread; needed a special file to handle this card. Would that have anything to do with it? I remember 3dMark couldn't recognize the card

When you boot it up there is a MSI utility to burn the factory install on DVD's or save them as ISO's. This is recommended, then you can use this to reinstall or you can do a clean install of windows. See the first post of this thread, all the info you need is there.

    Okay, so here's the situation:

I already have a disc with Windows 7 Home Premium (what comes with the laptop), but without SP 1.

    I load it.

After loading it says: Windows will not run on this hardware.

So I'm wondering.. when you start loading windows, you can "load drivers" for the machine.

A: Does anyone think this will work?

B: Where do I get these drivers?

Yes, here. From czec republic, so i should especially anwer this question since we have letters like this : ň,ď,č,ě,á,ó,é,í etc.

This is not an issue however. You can do "ˇ" easily as well as "´". It just takes longer, because my czech keyboard, namely Roccat Valo ( Soon changing to Isku ;) ) has those letters on by default. But it doesnt matter anyway. Don care about proper czech punctuation at all... most of the times i type english anyway.

Just on thing guys - Striker or anyone. Where do i get a serial number ? I need to register my laptop and i have like few days to do so. And i am kinda panicking. I have not received the unit yet, so idk where to get this from. I am in a hurry.

After your fresh WIN 7 install, install the S-Bar software from HERE, and then install the MSI nVidia VGA OC Tool from HERE. After this, test by pressing the P1 button..... and on-screen you should see Turbo TDE (Turbo Drive Engine) activate.

If you are going to use AfterBurner with P1 Turbo (TDE), you must activate TDE first (P1 button), prior to launching AfterBurner.

There are instructions online for how to apply SP1 to an existing CD image, then you just burn another disc.

    You need this thing: http://www.rt7lite.com/downloads.html

The serial number will be located on the outside of your MSI shipping box, and beneath your notebook's battery. Beneath your battery you will also find your WIN 7 Key.

Yes, it is not hard to write such letters. However, I would like to prefer Turkish steelseries keyboard, not the english one. It seems that gt780dxr has only english keyboards all around the world...

What is going to happen, if i am unable to register my laptop within 30 days of purchase ?  :(

Dont get me wrong, but by the looks of it, having a language-specific keyboard seems to be a luxury. This isnt a HP notebook you get with your desired keyboard, free 15" bag and crappy two cent mouse, you know :)

Hey guys, im thinking about purchasing a gt780dx-us263 with a 2670qm from amazon.ca (lowest price ive seen so far ~$1575 on a ~$1600 budget). I've sought out people's opinion on the laptop, and it seems everyone is pointing the way to 6990m laptops instead, which are at least 200 over budget. I figure since you're all gt780 owners, you're probably bias, but i figure i may as well get your opinion on the subject. (just looking for a good gaming laptop for my budget). Is that 6990 really worth breaking the bank?

    Thanks! =)

if you can get one with 6990M with only $200 more I say go for it. The card itself is roughly on par with GTX 580M which is the fastest laptop GPU to date.

I agree with dragon, go for the 6990M and you probably won't regret it. It has pretty much the same power as the gtx 580M, but you may get better results in certain games with the 6990M. Similarly, some other games run better with the 580M. For reference, the 570M is about 10-15% faster than the 560M, and about 30-35% slower than the 580M.

On another note, does anyone know if the GT780 has a mSATA port some where?

Enjoying my new MSI GT780DX. Got it from Ken at GenTech and highly recommend him - it's been a good experience.

Was frustrated that it didn't come with a Windows 7 reinstall DVD but I am astounded that they combined the home/page up and end/page down keys (using Fn to access home and end). What the hell were they thinking? That has got to be one of the dumbest ideas in keyboard history.

So what's the possibility of figuring out a hack to change the 2 least used keys on the keyboard - Scroll Lock and Pause/Break - to Home and End?

With such a great computer, it's really absurd that they left the scroll lock and pause keys while combing the home and end. Not very bright MSI.

Just I have never seen a laptop without a Turkish keyboard in my country. It doesn't matter if it is alienware, asus gaming series, clevo, etc. Okay, I see that steelseries made this keyboard only for msi gt780r/dxr. However, I do not see any reason why they can't add, change any of buttons according to country.

Does that mean that I should look at considering the Sager NP8170 (Clevo P170HM) then? It can be upgraded to take the 6990M for $245...

Striker, do you ever watch movies on your laptop? If so what do you think of the picture quality? I haven't noticed any posts about that nor have I found any videos to give me an idea. I watch movies on my laptop all the time so it's important to me that the picture and sound are nice. Though the laptop I'm using now, nearly anything is better lol.

The 570m runs pretty cool, right? So it can be easily overclocked. While the 6990m runs pretty hot, or so I hear. And thus cant be overclocked much? Wouldn't the overclocking of the 570m bring it much closer to the 6990m?

Also, i hear MSI gaming laptops have turbo boost or something? Is that basically just the "overclock button"? Or is it a cooling thing? Wouldn't it bring the 570m that much closer to the 6990m?

Since you're on a budget...$245 might be pushing it a bit, and I don't have any experience with Sagers. The reason I bought the GT780DXR-095us was because I got a deal on it for $1500 shipped and tax free. On the first post, Striker lists 11 reasons why he bought the MSI, and I tend to agree with his reasons. Overall, if you're looking for something a little more beefy...go for the Sager. If you're fine with playing modern games @ 30+ fps, then go with the MSI!

Anyone know about the mSATA port on the GT780 mobos?

The temps that GPUs typically run at are negligible without a good cooling system. I haven't found one review or post complaining about the GT780 cooling design or efficiency. I'm not sure what benches a single 6990M has, but I'm fairly sure an OCed 570M is still decently slower than a stock 6990M.

Turbo boost is a button that activates OC software. It also has a turbo "FAN" touch button that puts the fan on max. I don't like using the fan turbo though because it's too loud and the auto setting cools just fine.

Sadly not, however an overclocked 570M is still downright beastly. The cooling on the 780DXR is very good from what I've seen, especially for single fan set up. It's closer to the 6970M on the AMD side of things.

Let's not forget those '11 reasons' were in comparison the Asus G73-74 class. Sure, there are gaming notebooks with more powerful GPU's, but the GT780 is a mid-range class that will do most all...... and do it well.... cool & quiet, without breaking the bank.

Congrats! I also thought it was fairly light when I first got it. I think I might have made it a tad lighter by using a SSD + HDD instead of two HDDs. I wonder how the weight compares to the barebone version. I would think that the plastic is lighter than the aluminum, but I guess it depends on what kind of plastic composite they use. It's probably negligible anyways :p

    Hello Folks,
I also jumped into SSD Bandwagon. Just updated Primary drive to OCZ vertex 3 Max IOPS. I don't know but in just 3 days the OCZ drive makes me worried a bit. I used the OCZ drive utility and cross checked it with Crystal disk info. My Win 7 Ultimate has written 333 GB in 3 days and read 107 GB. I agree I did the installation of OS and then first installed all programs to SSD then decided to move them to secondary 750 GB storage leaving more than 200 GB for the primary ssd drive to play with (write levelling precaution):
Look at the SMART data from the disk.

What exactly are you worried about? I'm not very knowledgeable about SMART data, but I don't see anything that really stands out. By the way, there are going to be SOME bit errors regardless.

Haha, holy can this thing overclock. 720/1440/1750, no problem at all, 13474 in 3dmark11 vantage. It does run around 70C, so I'll keep it at 680/1360/1700 for now, which should be more than enough.

The screen is absolutely beautiful, and the sound is clear as well, although a bit lacking in the bass department (I'm used to a huge desktop sub though). No problem with the keyboard or trackpad so far, but I prefer to use a mouse anyway.

I hate a lot of things about Windows 7, but I had to make the jump sooner or later..

Edit: Actually, the bottom left corner of most keys seems to be quite random. Most of the time it won't register, but sometimes it also double presses. Thankfully I seem to press the middle of the keys with my regular typing, but it's still kinda annoying.

They can, but you'll have to give up the back lighting. In Taiwan they use a traditional Chinese keyboard, but since cutting out the keys in other patterns will cost a lot of money, we only have non back-lit keyboards. So I think I'll make my desktop a picture of the keyboard layout and keep the English keyboard

Any words or updates regarding the simultaneous keys for the SteelSeries keyboard?

Has it been improvised or rectified?

Hi. I know this post is old, but for new seekers here's a tip. My gt780dxr was going into a blue screen loop over and over again, like 5 minutes after rebooting (while working on spreadsheets & pdfs).

After some experimentation here's what resolved it. I removed the graphics driver, booted into safe mode (F8) with networking, then installed the driver using windows driver installation (specifying file location of driver on the disk provided by RKComputers).

The blue screen cycle started when I re-installed the graphics drivers using the nvidia software driver installation. Why did I reinstall? Because windows was giving me a flag that there was something wrong with the graphics driver.
