Hi, i'm thinking get the MSI GT780DX-215US to play BF3, Crysis 2 and the latest games. But i'm a little worry about the performance. Could someone put a video playing BF3 on this laptop? whith default configuration, without overclocking or anything like that, at the max settings possible in order to get 30+ fps.

or someone can answer based in your experience?

There's some issues to the BF3 beta to that it's not exactly the most stable of betas as of yet, so the benchmarks and performance numbers you might get from the game might vary alot based on the system.

Personally, I get 20-30 FPS on 780 R on high settings, A DX would probably get around 30-35 fps on high, not ultra though.

Oddly I can't see pages 344 & 345 since it keeps sending me to 343 after I click on the previous two.
    Weird.

Perhaps the page thing is a cache problem, perhaps clearing the cache or cookies will solve it.

I have noticed that MSI release a new BIOS for the GT780DX, is it recommended to have the latest version or as long as I don't have problem I should keep my old one?

    Its totally up to you.

See the changelog, maybe the new BIOS will have a feature that you may use.

The latest bios provides a Sandy Bridge and DMI string update. I updated without issue, but you will have to add the '/x' switch to the flash command line.

    DOS command line = AFUDOS E1761IMS.30C /p /b /n /r /x

    :)

For BIOS updates usually the best advice is...if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

That is, if you are not having any issues with your laptop that the BIOS update specifically fixes, there is no reason to update your BIOS.

Anyone having trouble with the latest S-Bar (20.011.05137) from the msi site? The problem I'm having is with P1, where it's not opening up the program I set it to. It basically just comes on and then goes off after a minute. I'm trying to open up an nvidia inspector custom OC file. It's not a huge deal, but I'd like it to work....maybe I should try the drivers/utilities disc version.

I agree, my BIOS is from early August and I have no problems with it, which is why I ultimately didn't update to the newest BIOS. I don't think it offers any performance increase, so no reason to use the new version.

I'm having a weird issue with my GT780DX and my external monitor.
Basically, the output on the 24" lacks color and brightness. At first I thought it was simply the laptop monitor that was so good my external monitor paled in comparison. But then I tried my external monitor again on my desktop, and everything is brighter and the colors look better.

It's hard to diagnose because my laptop is in windows 7, connected to the monitor in HDMI, while my desktop runs XP with the DVI output. I'd tend to assume that this is not really the problem though, and some sort of default setting somewhere makes the output of the laptop to the monitor really bland.

Basically, with the same settings on the monitor for both inputs, the blacks aren't nearly as black on the laptop output, and the whites not nearly as bright. No amount of color customization will fix it.

Edit: Switching from my HDMI cable to a HDMI to DVI cable actually improved the colors greatly. I guess the HDMI input sucks. Thanks.

I don't have any problems using an HDMI to DVI cable to my 26" monitor. I can't really compare the external monitor to my notebook display because my monitor is matte, while the notebook is glossy. Since it's most likely not the monitor that's giving you problems, it might be your HDMI port on either the notebook or monitor that's causing a display quality decrease.

The default display icc color profile that the notebook uses is different than the default display icc color profile the desktop graphics card uses thus a difference in color displayed.

You can find all the installed icc profiles in C:windows>System 32>spool> drivers>color

I configured both a GT780DX-X1 and a GT780DX-215US over at XOTICPC and the GT780DX-X1 comes out cheaper with the same upgrade options.

Nothing concrete can be assumed from the Battlefield 3 Beta performance that will translate to the retail version when released.

The beta was probably at least 2 months old when it became public.

    The beta is very glitchy.

Very little should be assumed from betas.

Thanks for the answer, but apparently my problem was simply that the HDMI input of my monitor sucks. HDMI to DVI fixed it, and I learned everything there is to know about color calibration in windows 7 in the process.

About the BF3 beta: I wouldn't be worried. You get a free 20 to 30% OC on the 570M, you'll likely get another 5 to 10% increase when we get new official drivers, and BF3 on its own should see a 10 to 40% improvement in performances on or soon after release.

Yeah, and worst case, I had a HDMI to DVI converter that came with my old GX700.

Now my new problem is that the automatic underclocking doesn't work with dual monitors. Instead of idling at 37C, it now idles at 50C, even though I'm not doing anything. I tried to set profiles in Afterburner, but I can't go lower than 525/1050/750.

I think there's a way to do it with nvinspector, but it seems to require actually adding all the programs I don't want to underclock manually.

As it was previously said, it is still beta of Battlefield 3, thus in my opinion any performance numbers are irrelevant because the build is just horribly optimized.

That said, the video is cool, but we do not see FPS, so we have to trust the Author´s comment. Also, high settings = Ultra. That means running this game on Ultra or High makes no difference whatsoever.

The only thing that increases FPS on my Desktop GTX570 are - MSAA and HBAO, maybe Blur. Those settings arent fully implemented, but that MSAA especially might yield an FPS or two.

But my Desktop card is "only" ( laughable ) 1.28Gb Vram, but this mobile one is 1,5Gb. Thus i would say that this card should benefit from those options being turned on, as the recommended Vram for Ultra is 1.3Gb of Vram and upwards. AMD/ATI users are now all happy, yea...

I would say the biggest problem will be special DX11 features, which will make this card really stressed, but i am more then sure that this card CAN run this on Ultra. Ultra doesnt mean maxed, and if you turn off that MSAA or tune it down, and the other extra stuff there, you might get 40 FPS, more or less. OC the card and wait for official drivers + final release.

Right now my GTX570 scores around 50 FPS, maxed out. Open environment sometimes dips into low 40s but then again, inside i get 70+. Also, this game doesnt support overclocking. May it not be the problem with GTX570M, for sure is with the Desktop cards though.

When i load my Super overclocked profile i made, that is 879/1758/2002 - 1.013 @Stock 732/1464/1900 - 0.975 The game pretty much crashes so i am unable to tell any difference, although with this overclocking, made on air btw, i would get +5 fps at least, if not 10.

AGAIN, bear in my the Beta is really badly optimized and god knows which features are in, which are not, and how it all combines together. Also, i wouldnt even talk about games like Metro 2033. I got it free with MSI Big-Bang Fuzion MoBo ( 1156 ) and its great ( both of them :) ) but Metro 2033 wasnt really greatly optimized either.

I am skeptical to such "video benchmarking" as its unclear if the perfromance is right or false. Also, recording with FRAPS is an overkill for your FPS. When i tried this with Black ops, from 120close(80 open) FPS i went down to 80 close and 60 open. That means around 30 fps lost just because of Fraps.

Good thing is for guys like me, that are enthusiast and like to push hardware to its limit, especially worrying in my case, where i am a student, so any accidental damage is multiplied by 10x, that there is no 3D Vision. Not that i would like this anyway, when i get my 40" Samsung Smart TV / 400hz / 3D i will just use DVI/HDMI and make the TV a BIG BIG monitor, but i would defenitely play with it, as having it on desktop is great thing, and i really love it. But i would be seriously afraid about the FPS i would be going to get. May i get 30 at least ? :/ guess not. Well, my two cents folks.

Meh...... I've heard it said for years, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"...... but problem is, not all issues are readily apparent to the end user. Heck, I've even heard the same said of normal driver updates, especially chipset drivers, and even graphics card drivers. Now try to tell a gamer 'NOT' to update their graphics card...... "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"! LOL!

As to computer systems, I think this saying is more borne of the grief caused to technicians/manufacturers, when inexperienced end-users 'brick' or frag their systems. This is one reason why strong disclaimers are given prior to performing sensitive updates. Certainly if an end user lacks confidence or the experience, they should never attempt such updates, and it's best left alone..... or they should have their updates done by a professional.

In the case of this latest bios update, the manufacturer has recognized a need, and made this available for a reason:

    1. Update provided for Intel(R) Sandy Bridge Processor.
    2. Modify DMI BIOS String.

Works for me! Updating the bios for the Sandy Bridge processor alone makes this worthwhile to me..... especially given the latest release of Sandy Bridge processors.

I would recommend however, that folks not be too hasty in performing newly released updates. I generally wait a day or so, till I can get some form of feedback (or lack thereof).

Regarding E1761IMS.30C, I am happy to report it flashed sucessfully, without incident or issue. I can report the same for the latest Intel chipset drivers too.

    :)

Okey, i want to report that my laptop has not yet arrived and i am slowly starting to be very angry....I do not even know where should i call. The cutoms of Czech republic site is very confusing even in Czech language, and calling post is useless, if they do not contact me first, since thats the time they got the package.

I am going to Italy next week with Gymnasium. IF the laptop do not ship until then, then its a big problem. Should i sue anybody? From my experience its not worth it at all, but seriously....I though that the package would be delivered on FRIDAY LAST WEEK !!! Waiting another week without being informed seriously pisses me off.

Then again, if the laptop ships on Monday e.g. and i am not able to get it from the post, then they usually send it back after few days. Will they like send it trough customs back to US ? Comical, isnt it ?

And i need the laptop for School. If i get it after the next Monday, then thats critical. Seriously, i am not trying to make this *puff* big, but it is a big issue for me. I need it for school. Well, like, mostly for benching and gaming and OCin..but gonna use it to write stuff while at school so... BIGDEAL.jpg

After the Italy i should have School one week and then the other week i am going to Surgery and will be in Prague for the rest of the week. The "free" week after the Italy an before the Surgery i am attempting some other screening, check-up, Blood analysis. And also i am now the Man with big "M" in the family, since me and my mother live together. I am seriously undr a big pressure. Mostly due to the freaking time. Freaking stupid time. Why were you invented...

Dont know how i manage to get everything copied from my block to the laptop. Also have to ask my classmates to lend me their Notes so that i can compile it togetha and make a complete list of it and prepare for school.

Due to this totaly F´d-up timeline of mine, i will have to try and excuse myself that i cant write any sort of tests and stuff due to the lack of information acquired......AND yea...

Tons o stuff this late delivery causes. CAN anyone tell me what in the zodding hell are those Customs guys doing there with the laptop ? Are they benching it ? Playing Battlefield 3 ? I am seriously starting to freak out...

    My two cents, baby.....

I asked this before, but got no answer.

I have purchased the 1761 barebone and I can't seem to set up RAID 0 in the BIOS. There aren't any options for it. My BIOS is version E1761IG6 (v3.06). Is there any place to get an update? I just want RAID 0 to work.

My second question is in regard to the RAM. I bought 8GB (2x4GB) ADATA 1600MHz RAM and it is running it at 666MHz and not 800MHz. It does support Intel XMP. Yes, I know that it defaults to 1333 so ensure it will be supported, but how do I use it at its rated frequency of 1600? Also, I do have an i7-2760QM (ES) which does support 1600MHz RAM.

If you have any questions about how my computer is configured, look here.

I fixed my dual monitor problem. nvinspector does allow underclocking with dual monitors, and it's actually pretty easy to setup and add programs to a whitelist. It basically does everything automatically. There is a small flickering everytime the memory clock changes though.

Now if only I could find a way to decide on which screens my fullscreen applications start on, I'd be set for glory.

Your SATA II SSD has me a little confused. For RAID 0, before setting up your RAID set, two exact matching HDD's would be a good place to start. According to your link, your drives are mismatched. Striping drives of different sizes results in wasted disk space.

Why don't you PM one of the barebones 1761 resellers?

    :)

I have a 60GB SATA II boot drive and two 5400 rpm HDDs (250GB and 320GB) that I want to set up in RAID 0 with one in an optical drive caddy. The BIOS sees all 3 drives but I don't see any RAID options.

In my situation, I was researching for a good gaming laptop in the local market, and the highest specs I could find had a GT335M in it and was about $2200. Looked online, found the GT780R and bought it. Since import charges are only 5% here, so it was a pretty good price :)

I too have the 2760qm and 1600mhz (Kingston HyperX) memory that is currently only running at 1333Mhz.

Does anyone know any of the following?

    1) Is there software (like Intel's XTU) that would allow us to set the memory divider from Windows?

    2) Will MSI likely release a BIOS update that supports tuning the memory frequency and timings?

    3) Are there any third-party/custom BIOSs out there that would offer this functionality and that work with this notebook?

    4) Are there any memory sticks that do run at 1600mhz with the 2760qm? On newegg I see two distinct HyperX kits, one advertised as Sandy Bridge plug and play (this is not the kind I have, though). Would this memory work without having to adjust settings in the BIOS?

    Thanks!

And I suppose you you're from Czech Republic?
I have some information that there is going to be a dedicated website from Poland very soon with gaming notebooks (including MSI) so that's an opportunity for you in the future to skip the import charges.

Somehow I always miss stuff from the first post, BLAH! Thanks Striker =). So it looks like those elixir modules are kind of hard to get over here in the States unless buying from a retailer. I was thinking of getting 4GB more of memory, but I'm not that concerned about it.

On another note, I just got in my Intel 6300....still contemplating installing the 3rd antenna. I only have the Linksys E3000, so I can't full benefit of the 3rd antenna as of now. By the way, newegg has a recertified E3000 for $65. I thought that was a steal considering that a brand new one costs $130 on newegg.

I don't know of any newer MSI models that have AMD GPUs, and I don't see why they would switch over anytime soon, but I guess it could happen.

Because people in USA are very lucky to have 1/2 the price for the same specs T.T...

From experience in Taiwan, ringing them and start yelling with strong words flying around helps.
In New Zealand writing a hate mail with no swear words and CAPS the parts that logically backs up why you're angry helps a lot.
Maybe you can try both ways?

But at the end always say thank you so much for your time

No to all, that is why upgrading the memory on a notebook is waste of money. However, even if you had bios settings to run the ram at its rated specs, you still would not see any speed increase.

So stupid question but do you all use the full versions of 3DMark11 and 3DMarkVantage or just the trail versions for your benchmarking?
