Without the smiles, yes. Because everything has its place. Certain order. Everything follows certain time line and must start a XX and end at YY. This late delivery causes much more problems then i though. Its not the end of the world as you say, but it makes the world pretty annoying.

I would like to have your Customs service.

In our country they sell only one model. It has 2670 CPU, only 8GB of ram, misses tons of other features, etc. And the price is around 2071 bucks. But when i searched for a laptop in the US, GentechPC had a great price. 2260-70 or smth for 2760, 16gb of Ram, Raid 0 750x2, Better Intel WiFi card ( especially needed for gaming ) and D-link WiFi router. The price difference compared to the model sold in our country just cant be compared.

Also, the model in our country won ship until the end of the next month, an that just a guess. And i need it ASAP. TBH, online shops arent that bad. As you can see we have some MSI laptop afterall.

Problems are stone shops where they only sell HP and Fujitsu and those low end things. Building you computer is fine in Czech, you get the latest parts in around a week or two later after the US, but laptops can be pain in the since i want the option to customize my laptop.

Not rely on some "unknown" dealer, that ships pre-made laptops, and pretty much says "Buy or let be"...

So i wrote a mail to the Customs....i wonder when they reply. Even if they do, I WON GET MY FREAKING PACKAGE UNTIL THE END OF TOMORROW. Seriously...If i knew this i would fly to US and buy the laptop there and return. This is horrible. Really horrible. Makes me consider a lot of stuff. Buyin things in US is all fine and stuff, but this last step is really, really worrying.

I mean, seriously...Next week i am in Italy. How in the freaking hell am i supposed to get the laptop when i am in Italy ? Like... Send it to Italy for me...that gonna take week, by then i am going to be back, and then i´ll be like "Oh well, send it back to Czech..." ....Just NO !

Then next week the Surgery. Like seriously...why...whaaay !

Just the free version from their website. Then run it as is, all default, no need to change any settings. Just select upgrade later to run the benchmarks.

So is it Czech specific issue or would you have to deal with customs/import taxes if it was bought in another member of EU?

The extra deep HDD bay looks tempting. Has anyone tried putting a Velociraptor 10,000rpm HDD in this machine? Can it support the more power-hungry drive? That would be a great replacement to my 320GB 5400rpm drive.

Well velociraptors are approx 65¢ per Gig while most SSD are more than twice that. I know SSD are faster, but I already have a 60 gig boot SSD and want a large HDD that is fast and decently priced.

In spite of this notebook's hardware (and what the User Manual states), I do not believe MSI wants to support it beyond 1333mhz memory. I wrote a lengthy support ticket to MSI, asking some of your questions, and more, and all I got back was the 'short' answer:

When ever I get the 'short' answer in anything, it always raises concerns to the level of future support that can be expected.

As such, I really do not expect to see a bios supporting memory timings, and I have a hunch MSI is done with the developmental work in the GT780. Also, I do not expect MSI's support of the GT780 to be much more than 'As Is'. (you know..... like a used car warranty) :D In other words, from an MSI stand point, it's probably as good as it's going to get for the GT780.

    :)

First you ask here about setting up a RAID 0 config..... with a 60GB SSD boot drive, and two mismatched 5400rpm HDD's....... and now you want to discuss WD VelociRaptors?

My best advise is you discuss your best storage options with your reseller, or PM one of our fine resellers supporting this forum.

Understood..... and is my advise so difficult? I think the resellers here, can best educate you on your best options. You already have three drives..... I assume you want to try to use some or all of them, right? Speak with a reseller to determine what is right for your situation..... rather than facing the wrath of some of our brutal users here, LOL!

    Only trying to help.....

    StyKER,
I doubt that the GT780DXR doesn't support anything above DDR3-1333 because the resellers ask a premium for DDR3-1600 or DDR3-1866. If they know that it doesn't support anything above 1333 then they shouldn't be selling them.
Maybe one of the resellers can give us better picture.
    Cheers

On a French forum, we just got nvidia gtx 570M drivers version 285.38 for Windows 64 bits from MSI : http://dl.free.fr/kVUt2ngXM
Brightness settings working with this driver :D

They will be available soon on the official website.

Are you talking about the 570M now being supported in the current 'beta' (285.38), or will this be a final release driver?

For the resellers this is just an easy upsell. This is standard practice in every retail store on the planet. The more expensive ram will work fine, even though the only benefit is e-peen.

As far as support, you can put ddr3 ram of any speed in and it will work just fine. The problem is that notebooks have locked bios' so you are unable to change any timings or clocks to get 1600 ram to run at 1600 or 1866 at 1866. The bios treats all ram as 1333 ram all the time. This makes "faster" ram a complete waste of money. There are only 2 things that can be controlled as far as any upgrade of ram. First the quantity (2,4,8,16 gb's etc) and second is that you could change the 1333 9 cas latency for ram with 1333 7 cas latency (if it even exists) to get that extra millisecond of speed.

Hi, can anyone verify this? I got GT780R laptop, and upon registering it on website, it says I have a 10 month limited warranty. After I sent out the invoice, they sent me the confirmation number, and guess what I've only got one year limited warranty now. Expires Sept 2012. I've tried to call customer service for 5 hours, and got no answer. Left 3 messages, and got no reply. I've submitted an online request through tech, and I've got re-routed back to customer service again. I'm just so lost here, any help would be appreciated.

For starters, I am wondering where you purchased your notebook? What reseller, what country? You should have a minimum of 2 years. Read warranty info HERE!

This is totally untrue. In every laptop we sell with DDR3/1600 or DDR3/1866 the memory runs at the stated speed. It is NOT down clocked to DDR3/1333.

The only models that down clock the memory are the ASUS G74 series, and that is why we do not sell anything other than DDR3/1333 in them.

^Agreed. Apparently 1600 works fine, you just need 2720qm or higher CPU. Or is the post saying it'll work on 2630qm and 2670qm as well?

So I just received my laptop today, I got blue screen once and the blu-ray drive usually doesn't open from the touch button, I have to do it from My Computer. I'm hoping the blue screen was a one time thing, but the blu-ray drive is very irritating, I would hate to have to send my laptop in for repair. Is there some sort of update I need to get to fix this issue?

I had some DC jack problems with my GT780R so I sent it to MSI for repair. 2 days later I received a brand new unit, but they didn't install my extra hardware on the new one (ODD & wireless card) so I sent it back...

Long story short I got it back today but the hard drives are not in RAID mode. I know how to configure them in RAID Mode (Thank you Youtube) but I'm wondering when I install Windows 7 and I get to the point of the Partition Screen to select the Hard Drive, if the RAID doesn't appear which drivers do I have to select? and also is there a need to put them in a USB? I would be grateful if someone could help me with this deal :)

    Thanks in advance

Make sure the S-bar utility is installed.

    http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT780DX.html#/?div=Utility&os=Win7 64

Without it being loaded the eject button won't work and you'll need to right click the DVD drive in 'my computer' and click 'eject' there instead.

Make sure the S-bar is loaded before press the eject button. Also make sure you didn't use CC cleaner because it will disable S-Bar from start up.

Before you setup the Raid array format all and then delete all the partitions on both drives by going through the Windows 7 installation process on each drive as far as the add driver/disk options screen.

Use the disk options to format and delete the partitions if they are not brand new drives.

After this has been done change the bios from AHCI to Raid and accept changes and exit bios.

Now you will need Windows 7 on a USB stick or DVD and the Intel RST driver/software on a USB stick.

The Intel RST you download from Intel will be Zipped.Unzip and open the folder until you find a folder f6flpy.Put the f6flpy folder on the USB stick.

Ok,now with your Windows 7 installation disk in the notebook bootup and choose to boot from the USB or DVD Windows 7 disk.

A screen will become available to access the Raid Setup by pressing CTRL + I.Here you will choose the type of Raid and the drives for the array. After you exit the Raid setup you will again get to the add driver screen of the Windows 7 installation.

The USB stick with the 64bit f6flpy folder on it should be incerted and the driver installation should browse to the f6flpy folder on the USB stick.

After the RST driver is installed continue with the Windows 7 installation.

The 1st time the installation reboots remove the Windows 7 installation disk and the USB stick with the RST f6flpy driver.

When Windows 7 has finished installing install the Intel chipset installation software.

The RST 64bit zip file and chipset driver can be downloaded from Intel downloads or station-drivers.

Get the RST from Intel and the chipset driver from station-drivers.com

So you are saying the memory controller on the 2630QM is not only 1066/1333? Since the memory controller is on the cpu, I am not sure why the G74 is limited and the GT780 is not. The sandy bridge desktop memory controller can handle ram above 2000, but the mobile chips seem to be limited. But you might be right, it wouldn't be the first time Intel understates its capabilities.

The 2760 and 2860 are limited at 1600, based on Intel specs.

This does not mean that faster ram cannot be use, it just means the memory controller will clock the ram at the max it supports regardless of the ram specs.

However, if the memory controller can clock the ram to its specs, as you state, the benefit vs cost is negligible at best.

The Intel specifications of the CPUs does not represent the whole truth. You just have to enable different XMP profiles and you can enjoy whatever RAM speed you like without having the RAM downclock itself. ;)

    Hi,

I wonder if in office mode (word, excel, openoffice, internet...) (so not in game), the model with 560M is quieter than the model with "570M" or if it's the same or the opposite ?
It's very important for me because as i'm not a crazy gamer, i hesitate between the 780R and the 780DXR and i wouldn't make a bad choice and the noise of the silence of the fans in a quiet room is an important criterion.
Also, I read that the model with "560M" is satisfied with a 150 watt power supply that heats, while the model with "570M" is the new power supply 180 watts.
    Thanks

Does MSI lock the BIOS? ??! That raise a ton of questions. Like, does the resellers have access to it? If not, then why are they selling 1866 MHz RAM? You have to change XMP profiles in BIOS to enable more speed than the specs you quoted from Intel.

What gives MSI the right to lock the BIOS? What the...! Neither Asus, Sager or Alieware does that.

If you`re not a hardcore gamer, then you could just buy the 560M version. That GPU is good enough for all games, except some few it won`t play at ultra @ 1080p.

Most notebooks bios are very limited and locked. I had the Asus G73 and it did not have these options either. After more research, there are only a few notebooks that will run 1600 ram at 1600, I have not seen any that can run 1866. The vast majority will down clock the ram to 1333 if it is spec's are higher. XMP profiles need to be enabled in the BIOS which there is no option do do so. This means the memory controller on the cpu sets the speed of the ram. However, it seems that intel has some sort of windows based software to run XMP profiles, but there is nothing to download on the page it is supposed to exist.

If anyone or any of the resellers have 1600 or 1866 ram running at its rated speed, can you please explain how and post a screenshot of cpu-z showing the memory timings? Thanks. :)

Ok I have another question now, I have been trying to burn multiple things on multiple burning programs, onto DVD-R. I keep getting errors, the first program said a hardware error 9216 and the second gave me a different error during the verification process. Both programs errored at the very end of the burning process. I only had one of the softwares installed at a time. I have no idea wht to do, but i've thrown out about 10 DVDs trying to get it to work. I have always been able to before on my other laptop. I'm able to play DVDs fine with the drive though. I can't believe how many little issues I have had with this laptop in a 24 hour period. I also can't unplug it while it's on or I either get a blue screen or it just restarts the computer.

Ohohoh~ that DVD writing thing happened to my ASUS F5R as well... before it can write, then one day it just gets error at the end of the writing... I remember last time I solved it by uninstalling Neros 7 and installing Neros 8

restarting laptop after unplugging? that's unhelpful, my parents always keep the battery in so that if power gets cut off they have time to save their files...

    Hi,

This is a question I am stuggling with. My internet on the dxr was working, I did a recovery not a reinstallation of win 7, now I don't have internet access, I cannot see any of my access points etc. The thing I found out is that the network controller didnt have its driver. As far as I know its an atheros driver but for someone who has a dx series could you tell me what the driver is and where to get it from? The driver isn't on the utilities disk either.

    Thanks

I don't know about the dvd burner, but the blue screen on unplugging is not good. You might have to rma it.

The first post of this thread has direct links to the drivers.

    Practice with a DVD/RW

Download a Windows 7 ISO from Digital River.

Double click on the ISO and burn to the DVD/RW with built in Widows 7 software.

If it works your problems are probably related to the burning software you're using.

I don't burn many CDs and DVDs any more and ODDs are close to obsolete but when I do burn I use the FREE ImgBurn software.

    Version 2.5.6.0:
    The Official ImgBurn Website

Thank you for the response. I will try your suggestion. I read somewhere that the errors might have to do with conflicting burning software, I didn't realize windows came with software for burning DVDs. ImgBurn is one of the programs that I tried and my software of choice.
