FYI:
I just updated my bios to version 1761IMS.30E, and I am happy to report this went without a hitch. Also, MSI finally corrected the flash command line issue. It is no longer necessary to add the '/x' switch, and the flash will now execute by simply typing "flash' at the command prompt.
Remember, the 1761_10E bios is for non-RAID systems, and 1761_30E is for RAID. Also don't forget to recheck your bios 'Boot Prioority' after flashing.

MSI announced a new GT780DX gaming notebook model which features an Intel second generation Core i7 quad core processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX 570M discrete graphics with 3GB of GDDR5 display memory.
MSI Global ? News -
Aside from the memory increase in the GPU, is there any other changes I didn't see? -
lonelywolf90 Notebook Consultant
The ONLY difference is the 3GB GPU right?
Is there going to be a revised keyboard again? 0_o -
Hmm~ I sincerely hope they release a model without the OS but not the barebone version...
-
Thats unlikely.
Other than double the ram, i dont see anything else different. This seems similar to ASUS announcing the G74 with 3GB 560M for pure marketing. Even 580M and 6990M use only 2GB of VRAM. One thing is for certain though that this version will not be gimped =) -

South Korea is one that comes to mind. -

Wow, if the GT780DX is coming stock with 32GB is just overkill, what can we do with so many RAM?
I wonder when we can start looking at the SKU specs, woo =)
I saw the specs having SSD+HDD, must be expensive.. -

To import from the US would require a high shipping cost plus paying 20% on arrival on the sum of the shipping an notebook's declared value.
Having 32GB of Ram means upgrading to Windows 7 Professional x64 or Ultimate x64 for consumers.
Last I looked an 8GB 204 pin DDR3-1333 so-dimm module was over $300. -

Kind of an aside but a listing of the hours of operation for the sellers at the beginning of this thread would be nice. Been himming and hawwing trying to decide to order mine. Finally made the call and they were closed. My own fault for not calling earlier in the week. Maybe it will be on sale next week...%))
Great thread though!! Keep up the great work everybody and thank you for all of the information! -

Here the GT780 with GTX560M without OS is 1,518,000 KW($1376 US)
With Windows 7 HP x64(Korean) it's 1,525,000 KW($1383 US)
The new model should be introduced here on Tuesday November 1st? -

So now i have to figure out with the reseller to return HTC Evo 3D, or sell it for around 85% of the original price, and get Sensation XE. The Evo 3D also bad at playing music. You have to use headphones to not go mad and even then, its like listen music with my old Creative Fatal!ty Gaming headset...
I was really angry i fell for a 3D marketing and some neat design gimmicks and didnt pay attention to my ears...Also the Red/black design fits to the Asus ROG 17" / Belkin Messenger 17" / This laptops keyboard and Roccat Kone+...So all in all, good deal.
Although i know how you feel. I made this mistake for the second time this year.

There was a gap of about $65 between the with and the without OS models since June but this past week that changed fast.
It's now getting near 2 months before CES 2012 so this is probably the last hurrah for the Sandy Bridge 17" GT780 models. -

My son bought one right when they came out. He is stuck with the GT560M.
(oh yah! For once, the dad is rockin' it with the coolest system in the family.)

There won't be a big difference in the 3GB DDR5 vs 1.5GB DDR5. The only way to see a difference is if a user was exporting onto a 30"+ screen and running the game. In 3D mode there will be a larger difference, theoretically up to a 10 frame difference. In 3D rendering there may also be a difference but for most geeks who are just playing games natively on the panel there will be minimal gain.
-
-
on 1920x1080 aka FullHD 1.5GB is more than enough. But on 2560x1600 or above, you may or may not need more.
-
It still make no different in performance whether it's 3GB or 1.5GB VRAM, they will perform the same at same resolution with same amount of pixels. you can have 100GB VRAM running at 1920x1080 but video card won't allocate all VRAM to fill the pixels. the only thing makes difference is GPU and VRAM clock. -
, been waiting for this game for a while.
The temperature are no different with higher GPU at 730, however, I am getting artifacts so I think stick with 710 is much safer. -
A quick question, Since the GT780 uses MXM B 3.0, shouldn't any card with the same interface fit in?
-
here is the example of Asus's G53SX GTX560M MXM 3.0: -
-
-
And here's my 560M GTX:
Both paste jobs don't look too good, but IIRC the GPU never exceeded 85*C. -
Hi guys,
Just referred here by Xonar, and I think this is the right place to ask for thoughts.
I would like to ask about MSI GT780DX-215US, compared with asus G74SX-xr1. Honestly, I have never seen my friends using MSI (well, maybe they dont need gaming laptop. lol), so I dont really know how MSI's performance compared to the asus (i'm using asus right now). other than more powerful graphic card, (gtx 570M), how about the cooling system compared with asus g74sx? how's the keyboard? Thank you guys. really need your help to decide which laptop I should buy.
*it;s said that GT780DX-215US coming with 16gb ram (standard). But I check xoticpc, if you want 16gb, you need to upgrade it though* -
Sorry, I should have been more specific. The -099 model has 16GB standard and the -215 has 8 GB standard (+$0 to upgrade from Xotic to 12GB). 8 or 12GB is more than plenty for today, rarely do I go above 4 GB. Striker has the -099 which is more expensive.
-
The graphic is definitely better, worth the price different if there is any. The fan noise could be louder though im not sure. One advantage is that you have quite easy access to the inside to upgrade anything from hard drive to video card, unlike the G74 with the onboard GTX 560M chipset. DynAudio on MSI is the best audio you can find on laptop for now.
IIRC powernotebooks did a compare vid between the 2 (both on 560M). You can try to look on their youtube page. -
Well the 099US is really worth it. I would never choose anything else. The card is really powerful. Really is. Only problem is that there are no official drivers from nvidia but they will come out next month. So dont worry.
If you want to be sure about keeping the laptop cool you can always buy cooling pad like me. I recommend Cooler Master CF-19
The cooling is also better then the Asus one. You can also turn the fans to their limit by touching the Turbo fan boost icon. Thats another thing i love about this laptop - the touch panel.
The keyboard is really responsive and feels really "premium". I am used to high keys you know but this keyboards is really good. It also has 3 LED areas which can glow any color you desire. Think there is 25 colors and many modes. Together with Cooler Master CF-19 cooling pad and Roccat Kone+ you can create nice night disco at home( the cooling pad also got USB hub 4*2.0 or 3.0 USB and you can replace the fans with you desired one ).
The screen is also very beautiful. Matte is all i would ever choose. Watching films, videos, movies..All works great. Gaming is really really great.
i would definitely go for it. And dont worry, 8 GB is enough. 16 Gb Ram might be used for some advanced things which i need to look into yet. Heard about some RAM saving for files, or virtualization, etc.
EDIT : Yes, the DYNaudio is also a thing to be noted. It is the best of the best you can ever get. Turn on Cinema Pro, tweak some settings in THX Pro and you are going to get a sound that even some desktop can reproduce. -
He has a budget of $1,700. http://forum.notebookreview.com/wha...g-laptop-g74sx-xr1-a1-vs-msigt780r-012us.html
The -099 would put it over the top. Thats why I think the -215 is the next best model. -
I don't want to be annoying because I asked this some time ago, but can anyone make a video of Battlefield 3 multiplayer being played on the GT780!?
And please make a video longer than 3mins.
Thanks! -

I too have been an Asus consumer for years, and probably will continue to be with the right products, but in this case I believe the MSI GT780 is the clear winner. Not only is the graphics card more powerful, the 560M of the G74SX is soldered to the mainboard. Also for your consideration, HERE I outline 11 reasons to opt the GT780 over the G74SX. This list is a bit dated now, but I believe most all still applies.
As far as system memory, 8GB is more than enough for most users, unless you need to do some serious crunching, encoding, or running multiple VM's, etc. Initially I chose the GT780DXR-095US model (12GB DDR3), only taking the 099US model because it hit the street sooner.
Anyhow, just prior to the GT780's release, my eldest son impulsively purchased a G74SX. Soon after being introduced to the GT780, he wanted to return his G74SX..... BUT it was too late, and he is now hating life, trying to find a G74 buyer (DANG, if only he could have listened to Dear O'l Dad, LOL!). That said, I have actually had my hands on both systems, and again in my mind, the GT780 is still the clear choice.
-
Not at all, I just manually shut down Warhammer 40K : Retribution because the GPU was again at nearly 90* temp. There you see a need for such a high quality cooling solution i am going to buy. Also turbo fan on, overclocking off. Running the game on high ( ultra once put me to 95* temps )...Once i get the cooling pad, and the Case under it, it might change drastically, in which i do sincerely hope. -
