This is really pissing me off. Most of the time I don't use the touchpad, and if I do, it works just fine. Sometimes like right now though, this this just doesn't move like it's supposed to. I'll move my finger slightly down on the touchpad, and the mouse on the screen will shoot up instead. When it does this it's just a giant pain in the to use the computer at all, as the touchpad just does not work like it's supposed to. Anyone else have intermittent issues with their touchpad??

The solution is very simple...... Have Ken create and send you the GT780 recovery disk. When booting to these disk, you will have an option to rebuild the recovery partition, as well as restoring the system back to it's factory state.

    :)

Does 2 weeks without laptop mean without any laptop or without this particular GT780? Cause I'm sure they'll issue you an old worn down laptop so you can survive 2 weeks! Also the longest I have to wait in Taiwan for repairs from MSI is 6 days only and it was sent to the north of the island while I lived in the south... shouldn't take half a month in my opinion

Guys we (newbies) need your help, if you have a useful tip for first time MSI users please post it in this thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi...unboxing-your-new-msi-laptop.html#post8045288

Any guide for brand new notebooks would be very useful. What are the things you need to do right after opening the box? Do you charge the battery first? Run various tests? How? Please post your tips at the link above.

    Thank you :)

The RST v10.6.2.1001 download from station-drivers is a 7Z file.Right click on it and run as admin.Extract to desktop.Open the Diver folder and then the Disk folder. Now copy the 64bit folder to the 2nd USB stick. That's what you need to install the RST at the add driver screen of the Windows 7 installation by browsing to it after you click on add driver.

The Intel Chipset Installation Software is also a 7Z file. After unpacking the same way as described above in the RST instructions, right click on setup.exe that's in the INF_allOS_9.2.3.1022_PV folder and run as admin.

The Chipset Installation Software should be installed soon after the Windows 7 installation completes.

    Hey guys!

I recently bought a GT780DX-435NE in Sweden! I'm really enjoying its performance in BF3 (althought I don't wanna push its limits I play with all low settings to prevent bad stuff to happen).

However I have several questions regarding the laptop. I have no knowledge in computers. So I apologize if I sound stupid.

    1.

How do you reinstall Windows? I didn't receive any CD and I read something about a F3 button? I also read here that Burnrecovery does something useful. However I had no idea what it did so I uninstalled it >_<!

    2.

What does this P1 button do? Turboclocking? >_<?! It enables/deactivates the nvidia overclocking program. I assume that overclocking your computer may improve its performance? But if I use this all the time during gameplay, will it eventually exhaust my computer? Is it bad to use it often? When should you use it? (I mainly play BF3 and SWTOR).

    3.

The fan-speeding button. Like the previous question. If I keep using it during gameplay like in Battlefield 3 (multiplayer) will it exhaust the fans and the computer itself? Can it ruin the computer if used frequently? When is it recommended to use it? (when its hot duh >_<)

Sorry for the stupid questions. I hope you really can help a poor guy out!

    Thank you for your time!

For anyone buying in Canada, NCIX.com just got the GT780DX with the updated CPU (2670QM). Model number: GT780DX-277US, 1499$ before tax/shipping, then you get a 80$ mail-in rebate. Pretty sweet deal, considering the old version was going for 1550$.

Illuminaughty, for the trackpad, yeah, it works fine usually, then it starts messing up. Turning it off/on with the little key under the spacebar usually fixes it. But two finger motions never work correctly.

    Answer to #1

Pick the language you want for your OS.

Windows 7 SP1 Media Refresh Digital River Direct Links (5/12/2011 new releases with SP1 included)
    http://forums.mydigitallife.info/th...1-and-SP1-Media-Refresh-Direct-Download-Links

Download and unpack any of the ISOs onto a 4GB or larger USB stick using Microsoft's USB/DVD Tool
Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

Open the files on the USB Stick>open Sources folder and delete ei.cfg

*Now you will have a single Windows 7 installation disk for Basic,Home Premium,Professional and Ultimate.*

You will need a key to active each different verion.

Before you erase your present installation you can backup your activation information using the Advanced Tokens Manager and the apply it to the new clean Windows 7 installation
    http://www.softpedia.com/progClean/Advanced-Tokens-Manager-Clean-196989.html

The RST v10.6.2.1001 download from station-drivers is a 7Z file.Right click on it and run as admin.Extract to desktop.Open the Diver folder and then the Disk folder. Now copy the 64bit folder to the 2nd USB stick. That's what you need to install the RST at the add driver screen of the Windows 7 installation by browsing to it after you click on add driver.
    intel drivers pour Raid/Sata/Ata/Ahci

The Intel Chipset Installation Software v9.2.3.1022 is also a 7Z file. After unpacking the same way as described above in the RST instructions, right click on setup.exe that's in the INF_allOS_9.2.3.1022_PV folder and run as admin.
    intel drivers pour chipsets

The Chipset Installation Software should be installed soon after the Windows 7 installation completes.

Does anyone face a crackling noise in the speakers when the volume is turned up?

I seem to hear it happening in the right speaker only, re-installed the Realtek sound driver but it didn't solve it.

    Thanks WhatThePoint!

    But that seems....a bit complicated?

Has MSI not given me a CD to reinstall or a some kind of system built inside the computer?

Besides, doesn't this machine have an OEM key? That mean's I can't use it for a new clean Windows 7...?

What's the difference between having a new clean Windows 7 and not this OEM one? Won't my program for the keyboard lighting and all that stuff go away?

Yes. Yes it does. And thats also a reason why i have a mouse. And i am ready to ask our Professor to give me a whole desk for me so i can lay down my Roccat mouse pad and Kone+ rather then using the touchpad, since its risky and tricky. And i need precision when i do the school stuff.

No, nothing wrong here. Actually, the sound is so premium i am thinking about getting 5.1 for my next build - which due to the earlier release of X79 Boards, 2011 Intel CPUs and the info that the TSCM went into volume production with the new gen. cards might come as close as this years christmas. I never wanted speakers at all. Always preffered headsets. And well, when i get my Sennheiser HD598 i will probably use them more often. But when i am in bed its still better to use the laptops speakers.

The only crackling voice is when i turn the volume super fly high and some bass appears. Thats like an earthquake.

As far as i am concerned, the clean install deletes all the files and programs installed previously.

Just to send a report about the temps... I played some Battlefield 3 on Ultra and i had 25-35 FPS most of the times above 30. i used an overclocked profile with following settings : 725/1450/1854. Then i tried High and i had 40-50, most of the times around 45ish to 50 FPS ( sometimes getting to 70 when in vehicles, close environments, etc :D ).

Oh and the temps were 86*...Not bad i think. Still using a pillow as a pad for the laptop, but i already ordered the Belking cush top case and Cooler Master CF-19 Cooling pad.

Pillows don't have a fixed shape, therefore will block any vents.
Try placing the laptop on a table, and see how the temperatures are.

If they're better, then you shouldn't complain about cooling!

I do, but it comes from the keyboard. Maybe try to cover the part with your hand where the noise comes from to see if you have the same problem as me.

It is not as hard as it sounds. The factory partition is on your notebook and must be backed up to dvd's before you do a clean install of windows, there is an MSI tool preinstalled to do this.

The OEM key is under the battery and works fine to do a clean install with the downloadable win 7 image. You might have to call MS to reactive but that is easy.

All of the MSI software you need is downloadable from the MSI site. The S-bar, keyboard lighting, etc. Please see the first post of this thread.

The standard P1 button is fine, if you want to push it a little more you can with MSI afterburner. Just up the core clock, mine goes to 900 without much issue.

Some will say if it ain't broke, don't fix it..... but, considering the last few bios updates dealt with Sandy Bridge corrections, I did. The latest 30E updates without a hitch, and I reported on the last bios update HERE, and HERE.

A fresh clean install of WIN 7 will allow you to free disk space and rid you system of bloatware, while providing you a cleaner system registry. You will then need to do all Windows Updates, all driver installations and updates, and install all software particular to the GT780. It's really not difficult...... the WIN 7 w/SP1 download link (with instructions) can be found HERE in the 'downloads' section. You will also find GT780 bios, driver, firmware, and utility downloads here.

To re-activate Windows, you do not call MSI.... it's Microsoft. You will probably not actually have to call MS, as activation can be done online (through the OS) if done within 30 days. All you simply need do is re-enter your Windows activation key, located beneath your battery. Make sure you are connected to the internet when doing this.

For an idea of what to install after your new WIN 7 installation, read HERE!

As compared to other notebooks I've seen, the GT780 actually does not have much bloatware, so another approach could be simply deleting software you find unnecessary. Prior to doing a fresh WIN 7 installation, it's a good idea to create your MSI Recovery disc..... just in case you need to restore the system back to it's factory default state..... like the future sale of the notebook.

    :)

There's nothing hard about it.It just may seem so if you never did it before.

Every owner should have a copy of a Windows 7 Installation disk.

Using a USB stick is the fastest way to install it.

Download any Windows 7 ISO(choose language and bit)
Unpack the ISO onto USB stick using MS Tool
Remove ei.cfg from Sources Folder = Finished

    Clean installing Windows 7 x64:
    Insert USB installation Disk
Start computer and choose boot from the USB stick
    Pick your keybord layout
    Agree to EULA
    Choose Basic,HP,Pro or Ultimate
    Custom Clean Installation(not upgrade)
Disk Options(Format all partitions then delete all until 1 left)
Add Driver(install Intel RTS from 2nd USB stick)
Let Installation expand and install files
Remove USB sticks during 1st reboot
    Finish installation
    Install Intel Chipset Software
    Install netFramework 4
    Install MSI S-Bar Utility
    Install drivers for Graphics,Sound,Wireless,Lan,USB 3.0
Install other needed driver and software for your model

If you do a restore from a backup you will probally be installing old outdated drivers and software.

It's best to have the latest drivers on a USB stick ready to be installed before you wipe your drive.

The bios remains untouched by a clean installation.

If you have games installed and don't want to lose your progress try

    With the overclocked profile - 725/1450/1854 -

Medium settings by default + Max FOV - 60-70 FPS. OFC some dips into 50s.
High Settings by Default + Max FOV - 50-60 FPS with dips no less then 45.
Ultra Settings by default + Max FOV 30-40 FPS with dips to 28 FPS.

( edit : FOV equals to "Field of View". More FOV stress the GPU more as a wider area has to be calculated by the GPU )
(edit 2 : the second FPS number is basically max FPS under certain circumstances. For instance, close quarter fight, building, vehicles or similar )

If i get the chance and someone wont ninja me, i might do a Fraps benchmark and also try custom settings, and different OC profile. Stock, OC, SOC, TOP.

If the results are valid it might be addes to FAQ since it helps new people to determine how powerful this laptop is. Hope it helps,

    Cheers

:D Those arent my videos, but Kens videos @GentechPC - i , in no way, have any credits on this work :D :D :D

Edit : So after checking all laptops, even the Dell one, i think this is the best you can get for the price. Now it comes down to what you would like to have in this beast machine. And how much money are you going to spend on this.

i do not regret my purchase, although now i have some problems creating a part list for my LGA-2011 2011/2012 upgrade with 8 cores i7s in mind for Q4 2012/Q1 2013 because the money reserves are shorting. If you know you wanna upgrade your desktop, you might want to not get anything expensive.

So tell us what do you want :D

See my edit. Plus, i was configuring both units to what i have. And i noticed that Sager has cheaper CPu upgrade and realized its not relative at all. Yes, this is the best machine you can get.

The fact it has a touchpanel, 3-way backlit keyboard with different modes, effective cooling, etc etc etc makes it the perfect machine. You might want to go to page 1 and see Strikers compilation of info about this laptop and read more about the features if you havent done so yet.

I compared prices of Clevo P170HM and MSI GT780 before getting myself the GT780. With 580m included and the general specs are almost the same, Clevo laptop is $300+ more expensive this is with the $100 discount applied already.

I'll say MSI GT780 is definitely a great value for your money. :D

well my pc is fine, 2500k, gtx570m twin frozr III, 8gb hyperx kingston ddr3 ram, gets 60-80 fps on bf3 high/ultra settings with 1080p.

but i need a laptop for university, and im not going to play on a 560m, so 570m seems to be the right choice

This is the part I'm confused.

Why can't I just put the ISO on the USB without using a "MS Tool"?

Also, what's with this ei.cfg? Why must it be removed

This is the part I'm TOTALLY confused.

I've never in my life when reinstalling Windows 7, been asked to install drivers DURING the installation of Windows 7. Why must I do this? What is Intel RTS? Intel Rapid Storage Technology?

And how do I just put the installation of Intel RTS on the 2nd USB stick? Do I just put the .exe installation in it or what >_<

God im so bad at computers.

Also uh even though I appreciate your help, why do I have to extract an exe? Last time I did that, I ended up with viruses all over my computer....

I have used SVET' tool 0.83x to amend my 570m's default setting's to something a litle better from the off, it would appear th 570m is well underclocked to start with and capable of alot more.
This is my 570m's default setting's

This is my 3dmark vantage with physx off on my gt780dx-215us and 2630qm

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2630QM Processor,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-1761 score: P14603 3DMarks

With physx on it's just shy of 17000

I was going to run furmark but I didn't like the fact I could physically damage my 1 week old laptop possibly doing it.

Burn Recovery is MSI backup it will convert your current system into 3 DVD's that will enable you to format you laptop complety and all you then need to do is put disc 1 in and re-boot and just follow the installation procedure and insert the other 2 disc's when asked, just done it myself on mine as I enabled Raid 0.

And like I said, isn't there a more trusting link than mediafile I can download Burn Recovery? Msi doesnt even offer a download...

And whats the difference between the F3 function and the DVD installing function?

I might aswell just live with this OEM system. It's not that bad...dont wanna things up :(

Use a mail forwarding company like borderlinx, shipito, myus, etc. Shipping is more cheaper since they're charging you the heavily discounted volume price they're getting. Talk to Ken (GentechPC) he'll definitely help you with this kind of situation, and he'll give you the cash discount for paying via bank wire and that would certainly help with your shipping fee.

I chose U(S)PS since their price was the lowest. And i wanted to have it somewhat "official". Yes, without paying the delivery i would save quite a lot, and it might mean a "free" corsair H100 watercooling system for X79..you know how i mean it "free"...But i think you have to count with this since you are ordering from outside of India. When i am doing my next build i wanna buy Sleeves for cables. Red/Black for standart and Red/Black for E-sata cables. I will have to get it from US and might pay an awful lot on delivery. Maybe the same price as the cables. I would probably find alternatives like Amazon or any other UK shop, or even try some in our country. but if nothing would apply, you just have to count with it.
