Thank you for the assistance xMAR
But one question, what's the difference between the F3 button restore and the DVD restore? -
The DVD restore restores windows from the dvd you have built, and the F3 button restores windows from a copy on your hard drive. -
To be honest I don't actually run those I stay @ 740 / 950/ 1480 temps seemsto be pretty much what I was seeing @ standard setting's . Going to change the processor and use some artic thermal compound over the next week or 2.

I don't link to files I haven't used myself.
Let's see if we can help clear up some confusion.
Just like you need to uncompress a rar or zip file to access what's inside the same holds true for an ISO file.
It needs to be opened up with the Microsoft USB/DVD Tool so the USB stick has the files and folders for the Windows 7 installation to access.
Boot
EFI
Sources
Support
Upgrade
Autorun.inf
bootmgr
bootmgr.efi
setup.exe
These same files of the uncompressed ISO file are the exact same files found when you open an Official Microsoft Windows 7 Installation DVD and look what's on the DVD.
Why remove ei.cfg:
Normally 4 different DVDs or USB sticks would be needed if you wanted to have a Windows 7 Installation Disk for Basic,Home Premium,Professional and Ultimate.By removing the ei.cfg file in the Sources folder 1 disk is all that's needed to install any of the 4 versions.
Why add RST:
New non raid notebooks are shipped wth the bios set to AHCI.Raid notebooks are set to Raid.
The RTS is a must add driver for a Raid installation and a highly recommended for an AHCI installation.
By installing the Intel RST software at the add driver screen helps the installation recognize drives in the unit and add enhancements for SATA devices. This contributes to a better Windows 7 trouble free installation.
It's not a must do during the AHCI installation but it's highly recommended. You may also install the RST after the installation completes through device manager >update driver in IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers using the same 64bit folder or by having the RST exe verion on the desktop and running it.
If the Windows 7 Installation doesn't see the hard drive or SSD you want to install Windows 7 on,it could be because you didn't install the RST software at the add driver screen.
The method I outlined for a clean Windows 7 Installation works very well. It's up to you to use it or not. -
Ever since I updated my nvidia drivers, the P1 button doesn't respond anymore. Is anybody else having this problem?
EDIT: Just had to download the TDE driver again...Sometimes I'm surprised by my ability to overlook things.... -
So guys, Skyrim is out in just over 5 days!!! Pretty much the reason I upgraded to my MSI!
-
I'll only be getting it on Christmas day sadly but then again, I won't get my hands on my laptop until the day before :L
I've been watching streams of the leaked xbox version, it looks pretty good, but the graphics should be miles better on pc than the 6 year outdated hardware -
either way, I'm super excited.

Stupid question this but I am unable to find the answer but what socket type is the i7 on the GT780dx?? 988 rings a bell only as as I am looking to put n i7 2820qm in place - light upgrade
-
-
Does anyone know where I can purchase the GT780DXR from a brick & motar store in Oregon?
Dying to get my hands on one asap!
Thanks in advance. -
You can get one on Newegg.com. They give you 30 days return policy for return and replacement.
You can replace current i7 2630 and i7 2820 has similar socket. I read on this forum that few owners upgrade their i7 CPU and graphic cards. -
-
It will, no problem at all as when you have a 2nd gen i5/i7, your MOBO will accomodate any of those
-
Bethesda have also said how much better they've gotten at compression, so hopefully they're being truthful
If not, moments after installing pc gamers will bombard Bethesda with complaints so I'm sure they have some HD textures ready. And if some things aren't up to scratch, the good old mods will fix everything
Raging that I won't even see my laptop until late December, but I suppose the wait will be worth it! -
Hey guys, I just uninstalled S-bar not knowing it would create conflicts with the Fn shortcuts. I re-installed S-Bar and as a result, my P1 (program launch) touch button/FN shortcut got erased.
Before me re-installing S-bar, the P1 Fn would open the nvidia overclock tool (default since I got this GT780DXR-099US laptop). I'm trying to get my P1 to launch this tool again but I can't seem to get it right. Currently using C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI\NVIDIA Overclock Tool\NVIDIAOCAP.exe path and it's not launching the tool.
Any help would be great guys! Thanks! -

I have an old Logitech Z-640 speaker system that still works very good and I want to hook it up my my new GT780. But as far as audio output, all I have is a single 3.5mm out, and then of course the HDMI out on the back.
How can I hook these speakers up to my laptop? Is there some kind of converter plug that will plug into the HDMI on the laptop and allow me to plug the left/right/bass into the converter? Or will this not work because the HDMI is digital?
Any suggestions?
Here is a pic of the center speaker with it's left/right/bass plugs I normally would plug into the sound card on my old desktop:
-
green and black will be fronts, pink will act as center/subwoofer, and blue will be rear. It's how I got my turtle beach earforce z6's hooked up to my MSI -
Thank you sir, it works now fine
Does the touch strip P1 button differ than the Fn + F4 P1? (only the touch strip P1 triggers the OC tool) -
I have been pulling my hair out since I got this laptop trying to figure out how to get those speakers hooked up. -
yay! I contributed!

I have no real need for a desktop as while in college I'm constantly back and forth between home and the university, so I'll be delighted to have such a decent piece of technology for once. The space, the speed and the graphics make it a really worthwhile expense in my mind! -
Sooo, was able to reinstall windows this weekend, but when I searched the bottom of the laptop for the windows activation key I noticed there was no key present. Do I need to look somewhere else? I do have a red booklet wrom microsoft but it does not mention any codes....

So I'm a gamer, but I'm a married gamer. The wife (understandably) doesn't want me firing up a jet engine every time I want to play some games on a laptop. I've pretty much narrowed down my choices to the ASUS G74SX and the MSI GT780DX.
The only information I can't find (and is important to my decision) is how loud the MSI can get under full load. I've read almost this entire thread, have searched the boards as well as the boards on xoticpc and gentech along with the usual google searches, but can't find anything detailed. Most reviews just say 'it could be worse' or 'better than most', which really tells me almost nothing.
The ASUS never really gets above 43 Db at full load (compared to 52+ for an Alienware M17x).
Can anyone link me to this information or, if you're an owner, what can you say about the noise at full load?
For reference, 40Db is equivalent to 40 light traffic at a distance, refrigerator, gentle breeze. 50 Db is equivalent to air conditioner at 20 feet, conversation, sewing machine.
Thanks in advance! -
For a DX version the noise should not be your worry.
The full load gets after hitting the Turbo Fan button.
The most demanding games such as Crysis 2, BF3 or Metro 2033 doesn't load the fan to the maximum speed so you should be ok.
The G74SX should be louder then the GT780DX due to its additional fan(this is my opinion only)
-
i Love my jet engine!
I am not sure about the numbers you mentioned below. But with ASUS are you going to be using a laptop cooler? In MSI it's not needed at all & the turbo fans are amazing ready to go when you need it. You don't need turbo fan for casual gaming & I have not seen my computer temp go high even when playing BF3. Better thermal compound is probably helping.

Hmmmm...... choices are narrowed down to the G74SX and GT780DX...... and the deciding factor comes down to fan noise.
Let's see..... he says he has read almost all this thread......
Yeah, I think the Asus G74SX will be perfect for Yomat. -
LOL! I agree. Asus G74SX sounds like a perfect choice.

Very annoyed at the moment... I've had this amazing beast of a laptop for 2 days now and I just noticed a GREEN stuck pixel on my 90% NTSC color gamut glossy screen.
Will be calling Xoticpc tomorrow to see what can be done about this....I tried all the methods suggested, tapping, turning off the screen, applying pressure while turning screen on, running software to fix this etc. the only thing I achieved by tapping while the software was running, it went from a green stagnant pixel to a more greyish, maybe even purple pixel (depending on background) but currently it is back to green.
GRRRRRRRRR bf3 all of a sudden became much harder with that distraction! -
-
I'd say cooling noise G74 wins and cooling ability they might be around the same, however apparently G74 is a pain to clean and you need to take it apart to get to the fans. Meaning if you don't clean the fans after 6 months of intense gaming G74's cooling will be a lot weaker than GT780's
I'd still go for GT780, but if you're good at taking apart laptops or live close to an ASUS repair station I think G74 suits you better. -
-
Hey guys! Almost after one day I'll get my GT780. But now I've already have some questions. Maybe you discussed about it, but there are many pages in this theme, so, please, excuse me for asking these questions one more time)
And I'm not really good in overlocking, so if you can explain it as for an idiot.
1. How to overlock cp on this laptop? I mean non turbo mode. Should I use something like "setfsb" or I can do it using BIOS? What about best fsb frequence? I heard about 105-107. Is it stable? What about temperature, voltage?
2. Can anybody show his succes in overlocking GT780?
3. Should I update BIOS for overlocking or it doesn't matter?
4. Is it true that using turbo mode not for a long time, just for few minutes? And it mach more better to use Nvidia Inspector?
5. How to increase multiplier? -
2. ---
3. If you want to OC via ICC, then you will need the modded BIOS. You won't be able to go past 104mhz +/- .5, plus I think you need XMP RAM for the clocks to stay. I was never successful in mine. The highest I ever got was 103mhz, which was ~90mhz OC.
4. No, you can leave Turbo on for however long. Yes, you can OC your GPU via Inspector.
5. You cannot, there is no option. -
Someone on a French board successfully add a GTX580M (originally designed for Clevo notebooks but the form factor is the same !) in his GT780DXR.
