    Hi guys,

Can someone test the screen of the GT780DX? On mine when I am watching a totally black screen I can see lighter zone close the plastic border of the screen, it's only visible at night when there is no source of light in the room. I wonder if I should ask a RMA for this because everything else is working very well...
    Thanks.

This post is more specifically to GenTechPC, but anyone can respond if they've had experience..

I have a question about OCZ Vertex 3rd Generation.
I've been reviewing posts on NewEgg about their Vertex 240GB 3rd Gen SSD.
It seems these bad boys have been having trouble with users and the Sandforce newer controller causing blue screens and such.

Is there an issue when installing one of these 3rd Gen into a GT780DXR??

I have the 240 GB vertex 3 MIOPS version and until now no issues. Make sure to get the latest firmware. Its damn fast. No BSOD or any feel of sluggishness until now.
    Cheers

Are there any reported issues with power with this modd. I want to try the mod if the brick can handle it. also does the same apply to the gt780r?

Is it just me, or are there lots of whiners on NewEgg?

It seems really scary reading all those reviews about dead drive or BSOD or ran fast and now I had to reinstall.. etc.

    Do you have v2.15 firmware?

    Got another question:

Are all of the SSD Sata III drives going to fit into the same slot as the drive that's built into the GT780DXR-099US??

Or do I need to buy some sort of wires/kit??

Well there are always some people crying over every product even this laptop. Yes I upgraded to 2.15 version sometime back. If you compare, every SSD drive has one fault or the other. I haven't seen a single BSOD since I started using it 7 weeks back. Well I do quite intensive work on my laptop. I have written more than 386 GB of data in 7 weeks i.e. almost 8 GB per day.
If you are still skeptical then go for other ones .
By the way whatever SSD you buy I suggest you to keep backup of your system.

    Cheers

Yes all of them should fit. The slot is made for 2.5 inch laptop drives therefore any ssd which has 2.5 inch spec will fit here.

Okay, I think I'm going to go with the Samsung 830 Series, and purchase one on Nov 15th.. you know, so I can get a free copy of Arkham City. :D

Plus, Samsung seems to have a good "reliability" reputation and their 830 Series uses the newer Sandforce controller and has some good speeds on it.

I have 2 OCZ Vertex 2 SSDs(34nm) and 2 120GB Vertex 3 MAX IOPS with absolutely no problems.

Firmware v2.15 for the Vertex 3 fixed the BSOD issue a very small amount of owners were experiencing.
    OCZ Technology

The Samsung 830 series is what some have called the 2nd wave of SATA III SSDs.

The soon to be released OCZ Octane series and Intel 520 series are part of the 2nd wave.

    Intel Firmware:
For non 510 series Intel SSDs there's v3.0.1 of the toolbox to fix issues.

For 510 series use the firmware updater.

We do see some bad OCZ SSD every once a while and the issues are BSOD or drive can not be detect.

I just got off the phone a while ago that a customer who bought a barebone from us and install his own OCZ drive, BSOD every few reboots.

    Cool beans!
    Thanks guys!

Although it sounds kinda scary now to buy an SSD. I would've never thought anything bad could happen with SSD purchases until I started reading reviews and forums, and firmware issues, etc.

My main comparisons were the OCZ Vertex series, Kingston HyperX series, and the Crucial m4 series.

It's too bad that they are really expensive.

A somewhat nooby question...but I have to ask it.

My P1 button (overclock button) will work, the overclock will say on, but then after like 5 or so seconds it automatically shuts off. Could use some help there.

I also am trying to overclock the GPU a little bit in MSI afterburner to no avail, I changed the CFG file to =1 where I have to, but that is not doing anything. Any help would be appreciated on how I can OC my GPU.

I tried this as well, you need to slide the sliders to a higher rate (not too high.. don't kill it!).
    1. Slide to a higher value for all 3 sliders
    2. Click Apply
    3. Click Save and choose a number (if you want to save and use those values again later)

If it works it works as advertised but if it BSOD maybe fixable via firmware update but if the SSD can not be detect according to a OCZ technician posted at their own forums it has to be send back for replacement.

The good thing about OCZ is they don't ask you 1000 questions (maybe they already know the issues) just to get approve for RMA like Crucial.

Okey, I get it )) I installed win7, drivers etc. And laptop looks really good, but i can't figure out how to turn on led keyboard. I understand that this is an option, but i didn't find any information about my model: does it have or not. Where I can found information about it? By the way I have GT780-245XUA, I hope somebody know something about it)

Than I found theme http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi...-msi-unlocked-bios-xmp-support-thread-11.html about unlocking BIOS. And, how i said, i don't know about LED , so , how I understood, it's big difference between BIOS with LED and without. If I install that version will it work?

    There are two options.

Either by clicking on the LED backlighting button on the touch-screen.

Or open KLM (the LED backlighting program).

    I'm confused.
    A 256GB Samsung 830 SSD is less than $429 @NewEgg.
    A 250GB Intel 510 series is $569 @NewEgg.

    How is that more expensive?
For that price, not only does it perform well, but is one of the most economical drives for the performance out there.

And yes, I'm very anxious because I travel a lot, and I will only be home for the week of Thanksgiving.. all the way up until Christmas week even. So if I want to install it, that's the only window I have! :/

So my laptop arrived in Ireland safe and without any damage, now just the wait until either a friend brings it over or I return home for Christmas, whichever one comes first!

Thanks to Ken from Gentech, a true gent and he answered all my questions along the way.

No longer is getting this laptop just an idea... I already have it, it's just in another country :p

I also have some questions about this and I can't find anything searching on it.

When I push the P1 button, the "Turbo On" flashes on the screen, but after about 5 seconds it automatically flashes "Turbo Off". Why does this not stay on until I turn it off?

How fast does it actually bump your processor and/or GPU speed up?

Where can I find some details on what is actually going on when you push P1?

    Thanks! :)

I've been a happy owner of this notebook for 2 months now.
I got the chance of getting a SSD for my rig 120/128 GB max.
I'm torn between Mushkin Chronos Deluxe, Samsung 830 and Crucial M4.
Price difference between the three is small, like 10-15 euros max here in Italy.
I know of SF2200 issues but what bothers me most is compatibility with this notebook.
    What do you reccomend?

For rock-solid SATA III performance, reliability, and stability, Intel of course. Yes, a little pricey, but you know what they say about getting what you pay for. There is a reason why the Intel SSD's can continue to command their price.

My GT780 just arrived. Woohoo! My serial is cool too: 0000001

I'm having some problems though. First... I hate the fact that the keyboard lights come on every time I boot. I flashed the EC firmware that is supposed to default to disabled, but that didn't seem to work as they still turn on by default. I made sure to leave the laptop off for about a minute with battery unplugged as recommended. Any thoughts as to what I'm doing wrong?

Second, I've seen a lot of people mention that the nvidia 285.62 drivers install without modding the inf file, but this doesn't seem to be the case for me. This might be related to the card having 3Gig vram instad of the 1.5Gig that people are used to. I can't seem to find the post that mentions which INF file needs to be modded, so I can't check to see if my card is listed in there. Can someone point me to that post.

Hmmmm..... it's the same. MSI is even using the same release driver. That said, 285.62 should work fine for you. You downloaded from THIS link, right?

    (scratch'in head....)

EDIT: I see MSI is using a different VBIOS version..... but I do not think this would matter.

Finally I got my laptop! :D Purchased it from GenTechPC courtesy of our very own Ken Lee. Thanks Ken! Config of my laptop is on my sig.

Everything looks in order so far, going to reformat and do a clean install first. I already downloaded the latest drivers and got a USB with Win7 SP1 image for clean install ready so this should be fast.

I'm going to stress test it right after setting it up, any recommendation on how to properly do this?

Now, I don't know if I should give Samsung a try or stick to Intel. I was planning to wait for the Intel 520 :)

Yeah,if you don't need the SSD today then wait a bit to see if the Intel is as good as the Samsung.

It looks like VR-Zone was wrong in their saying the Intel 520 series would be out on November 4th.

Also the OCZ Octane series was slated for November 1st but I don't see the yet.

Do all the necessary research before you buy an SSD.

    Symmetrical or Asymmetrical
    120GB vs 128GB,240GB vs 256GB
    SATA III or SATA II
    Formated size
    SSD size and performance
SSD primary boot or Raid 0
    Reported issues with brands.controllers
How Trim works and keeping 20% freespace
    Tweaking a system for SSD
How firmware is updated on SSD interested in.
Migrating OS to SSD or Clean installation
    Price per GB

IMO almost all reported issues with SSDs are pilot errors,so do your homework for trouble free computing that starts with a good installation of the OS.

BTW,all the pieces that make up the SS 830 SSDs are Samsung in-house parts

Also another day another SSD is born.Today Kingston introduced the V200 cheaper per GB SATA III series.Don't expect great performance but it's alot better than traditional platter hard drives.

Yup, on the go constantly. Ugh.
I shoulda been in the laptop game a long time ago with this job. I guess I started late.

But my bet is that Intel is going to enter the game with the 520 late because it's going to trump everyone's numbers.
But with that, I bet it will also be one of the most expensive.

    That's my bet, anyhow.
