    Congratz ;)! I'm waiting for mine :(
Well there's an application called RMClock, has temps in it, I use it mainly for locking the cpu multiplier on my old laptop xD!
And for GPU temps use the MSI Afterburner utility xD!

Try Open Hardware Monitor. It even has a little widget that you can have on your desktop. I've got mine to run at startup and it hasn't bugged out yet. There doesn't seem to be a lot of support for laptops with some of these monitors though. CPUID HWMonitor only gave me information relating to the battery. YGWYPF

Have you tried XTU? I've tried it and because there's no BIOS support, the program won't even run. I've looked into your BIOS and there isn't any support either (they are almost identical anyway).

Also, this version is not even meant for us in the first place, read:

Hey! Just checking in! I love my laptop! It is way better than I could have hoped for. Just had a quick question I hope someone can point me towards the answer for.

I was playing a blu-ray tonight using the Corel WinDVD BD that came with it and I wanted to bump up the colors a bit but it was greyed out as an option. I understand that this was a free program to play blu-rays with and it works great but I was wondering if there was anything else that might have a few more options for playing movies than this one. I hopped over to the MSI site and found a download for CinemaPro II. I didn't want to install it for fear of it screwing anything up. Anyone know if this will work better for movies or another free program you could point me to?

    Hi
Finally i get my Gt 780 DXR. The problem is that my laptop has two stuck pixels. I couldn't fix them with software. And I don't know whether or not this would be replaced by the warranty.

Also I am not sure if should I replace my SSD drive in order to avoid my warranty stick. I bought my laptop in USA, but I live in another country.

    Thank you so much.

I don't know about the warranty part, but there are some other things you can try with the pixels.

How to Fix a Stuck Pixel on an LCD Monitor - wikiHow

This was posted earlier by Ken Lee about 100 pages ago (too bad the search function doesn't work).

Though I have found that if I go to google and enter "MSI Owners Lounge" and then whatever I'm looking for, I can find the posts.

For instance, for this issue, I went to google and entered "MSI Owners Lounge pixel" and it was the 3rd link.

Thanks, I already did that (in the beginning), but it did not fix my problem.

About the warranty I saw that it cover only for 3 or more death pixels in a 15 mm diameter.

Ouch! That could mean hundreds of dead pixels scattered all over the screen and no warranty replacement :(

It's why I felt it was well worth the $30-$40 for the zero dead pixel guarantee when I bought mine.

That's my biggest worry at the moment. My new laptop should arrive next week. I forgot to select the 0 dead pixel policy. I meant to, but when it came time to order, I forgot to check the option.

I'm really hoping I don't fire it up for the first time and see a couple dead pixels =/

Where did you buy your laptop? Can't you just return it if you think there's a problem with it and get a full refund? I think most if not all of the resellers here offer this no questions asked full refund. Just return it and get a new one, getting the same model with some dead pixel again is very slim. This is only practical if you're in the same country with your reseller.

I had a dead pixel on my MSI GT735 but bought it from Newegg and they replaced it with a new one (also had memory issues, bad ram). I purchased the 1 yr no dead pixel policy from GenTech PC just in case.... I figure if I can spend $2500 customizing what I want, a little extra protection isn't that big a deal. I was very happy though in that I have zero dead pixels upon arrival. I did have what looked like a piece of plastic film near the bezel on the top, but it was easy to fix.

Hey folks, I am currently trying to decide on a gaming laptop, and GT780DX is one of my top picks. (Others being, as always, G74SX and also Malibal Veda which is really Clevo P180HM.)

One of the things that I'm concerned about is noise - reviews tend to say that ASUS is super-quiet, while MSI is kind of noisy. I am curious to hear your experience. How bad is it? How would you rate it compared to a gaming desktop with a bunch of 120mm fans? (That's what I have now.)

Thanks in advance for sharing your perspective, I really don't want my GF to slam this laptop over my head when it wakes her up at night :)

They all make noise when gaming. But under regular use the MSI is silent and with the fans at 100% it makes a little less noise than the G73 I had.

I am doing a clean install in my crucial m4.

I am following the instruccions that WhatsThePoint recommend.

But at the end, the system only allow me to use the SSD drive. The second hard drive is there, but not as part of the system.

Wich option should I use, RAID or AHCI?

    Thank you.

Update your SSD firmware as per manufacturers recommended method.

Then for safety and a better problem free installation I suggest having only the drive that Windows is to be installed on in the notebook and any secondary drive be removed.

    Update bios if needed.

Set the bios to AHCI for non Raid Windows 7 installation.

Have Windows 7 w/SP1 on a USB stick.

On a second USB stick have the newst version of Intel's RST v10.8.0.1003(Unzip to new folder>put new folder on 2nd USB stick)
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...duct=Intel®+Rapid+Storage+Technology&lang=eng

Boot from Windows 7 USB stick.
    Choose custom clean installation.
If the drive has had an OS previously installed on it,at the screen after choosing Custom Clean Installation, use the disk utilities to format all partitions that show up and then delete them all until only one remains.

Now insert into another USB port the USB stick with the folder containing the Intel RST.

On the same screen where you found the Disk Utilities there's also Add Driver.

Click on it and browse to the RST folder on the USB stick and install the driver.

At the next screen the Windows 7 files will be expanded and installed then the computer will reboot for the first time.During this reboot remove both USB sticks. If you don't remove them the installation process will start from the beginning after the reboot.

The installation process will reboot again before it's finished and Windows 7 is fully installed.

Now you can install the newest WHQL Intel Chipset Installation Software v9.2.3.1022
    intel drivers pour chipsets

You can then install MS netFramework 4

At this point you can put in the MSI S-Bar and Keyboard LED Manager(KLM) then other utilities plus the newest graphics, sound, wireless, lan,USB 3.0

station-drivers.com is a good source to find newest WHQL drivers.

Well WhatsThePoint gave a very accurate guide.

However I decided to do the BurnRecovery; it eventually let me burn !!!4!!! recovery DVDs. I had an option to burn 4 dvds or make an iso? Which was best?

So with these DVD I can reinstall Windows right? Back to the beginning?

Yes, I think that guide should be in the first page of this thread.

I already finish my clean install, I think, I am missing only the newest driver of the gt 570m. Time ago, I saw that it has been released a newer driver called verde or something like that. Some of you said that it was incompatible with our card. Well I tried to upgrade with the verde driver but I could not do.

When updating SSDs it needs to be in IDE not AHCI/SATA.

Don't know, now I'm confused :p . I had to set mine (Kingston) to IDE. I know Samsungs need to be in IDE as well. Also, everyone in the SSD subforum always says IDE. Guess it really doesn't matter for M4s?

It's probably best to use the SSD firmware updating method recommended by the drive manufacturer.

With my OCZ Vertex 2 or Vertex 3 MI I can leave the bios set to AHCI.

The OCZ SSDs cannot be updated while they are the boot drive in use.

If you boot to a secondary drive not the SSD to be updated the OCZ firmware update is a very simple process.

If you have only one drive with Windows 7 on it then there's a Linux method of updating the firmware.

    I use Parted Magic.

I download the Parted Magic _32_64 ISO and unpack it onto a USB stick using the Universal USB Installer.

I can then boot from the Parted Magic USB stick and perform the following instructions.

    OCZ Technology
The FWUPD is a command line only tool and it requires root privileges.
1)Download the latest fwupd from the OCZ website.
2)Type fwupd <device> Ex. For one drive, sdb, fwupd /dev/sdb For two drives, sdb and sdc, fwupd /dev/sdb /dev/sdc For all drives, use wildcards fwupd /dev/sd?

EDIT:after you install your SSD,run WEI.Windows will perform some optimizations for your SSD.

Give the SSD Tweaker program a try.

Have the newest Intel WHQL RST installed.

    Keep about 20% freespace.

After deleting files let system idle for about 30 minutes for Trim to work it's magic.

No,I'm not saying you must or have to do it.

What I said was I recommend it.

If there's problems with the secondary drive it may prevent Windows 7 from being installed.A bad hard drive in the unit may stop it even from running a installation.

Sometimes the installation will start installing on the wrong drive if you're not carefull and erase the data you have on the second drive.

Not having the 2nd drive installed will eliminate the chance of the problems listed above.

I've had first hand experience with what I've described.

But before I now go and reinstall Windows using ur guide WhatsThePoint.

How do I enter my license key from my MSI GT780DX? At first startup, when asking for license key, I just write in my license key under the battery and poff! Done?

Or do I have to do something more spooky...? xd

Near the end of the Windows 7 installation there will be a sreen asking if you if you want to put in your key.If you don't enter a valid key and uncheck the box in that screen you will have a 30 day trial period to run Windows 7 without a key.

By the end of the 30 days you must enter a valid key or rearm for an additional 30 days of running without entering a key.

You can rearm up to 3 times giving a total of 120 days without a key.
Use any version of Windows 7 free for 120 days

Yes,the key on the sticker under the battery is a valid key for activating Windows 7 x64 or Windows 7 x32

There's no difference between the Retail version of Windows 7 bought as a boxed version, the version that's preinstalled at the factory or the version you you unpack onto a USB stick using the Digital River ISO.

When you buy a boxed version of Windows 7 you get 1 free support phone call to Microsoft.

When you have a notebook with Windows pre-installed all support is from the notebook maker.

Is it easy to change HDD to SSD in GT780DX ?

    Will this void the warranty?

I'm hesitating between this monster and a Sony Vaio F....

Hi everyone! How would you describe the portability on this guy? I want it for gaming & college, and will be an engineer major. I was considering the sager np8130, but i reeeaalllyy want a back-lit keyboard. Does the extra pound make a difference? my current laptop is a 15.6", is it greatly bigger than that? Also, how noisy would it be, say taking notes in class?

Let me help you with this.

I had a Sony Vaio F. You wanna know what they did to me? They ed me over? Wanna know how? "WE DONT WANNA UPGRADE GRAPHIC CARD DRIVERS CAUES WE THINK GEFORCE GT330M IS VERY OLD".

Oh yeah? I'm getting BSODs all the time because of your drivers. And since I can't download them anywhere else than the Vaio update, and you're not updating. My computer is pretty much ed. The last graphic card update was 10 months after I bought the computer. So you get limited access of updates. When you can't update your graphic card drivers, you can't play modern games. Pretty much forced me to buy a new comp.

That's how good Sony Vaio computers are. The computer pleased me until BSODs (probably first months) and they refused updating their programs/drivers. Also I couldn't use my product Windows 7 key for a new W7 copy.

I bought an MSI GT780DX and can't be more happier than I am right now.

I can use my product key to uninstall their OEM windows and install a fresh copy of W7 with the key. Did it very easy with the help of WhatsThePoint.

I also, during the process of reinstalling Windows (actually I did this today, about some hours ago) I put my Crucial M4 128gb in it. I had to remove about 5-6 very small screws, remove 1st HDD, replace it with the Crucial M4.

Then I installed Windows 7 using an USB.

And seriously, IT TOOK 5-10 minutes just installing Windows 7 and coming to the "whats ur product key" window. The SSD is really helping a laptop.

    The negative thing is though that if you don't want anything screwed up;

You have to first put the SSD for Windows installation. After everything is done. You shut down the computer, open the case up again. And put your previous HDD in for profit!

I also didn't have to change much in BIOS. The BIOS was already set on AHCI (no idea why) so I just had to add priority. It found my crucial m4 direct and prioritized it after DVD slot.

    Hope it's accurate enough.

TLDR: It's very easy to put an SSD in the GT780DX. The only hassle is that you have to first put the SSD in, install Windows. When everything is done, you put the big HDD in its own slot.

Also it was very easy installing it, you just slide it in a key thingy and gg.

Thanks WhatsThePoint for that accurate guide.

Yes I think the same, that guide should be in the first page of this threat.

Also I installed the newest drivers that WhatsThePoint posted.

My guides are not set in stone.

Those of you that are new to clean Windows 7 installations today will be the ones posting new guides and suggestions once you've gotten over the fear of the unknown.

The most disagreed thinking comes from those that say don't fix it if it ain't broken.

I'm on the other side of the fence.I update my bios every time there's a new one.

I also update my drivers once a new WHQL driver surfaces.

Sometimes I update with Beta drivers because they are supposed to fix bugs and improve performance in a game I'm playing until a WHQL version is released.

If they don't work out I rollback the driver, restore or do a clean Windows installation.

Often it's better and quicker to do a clean install than to spend countless hours looking for the problem.

The more often you do it,the better you will become at it.

    FEAR NOT

    Hi all,

Narrowed down my choice for a new laptop to the GT780, preferably the 446. I live in California, but right now my wife and I are visiting her family in Taiwan. There is a huge six-story building here in Taipei that is crammed full of small stalls selling anything and everything electronic, and quite a few of those are selling laptops. Quite a few of those I noticed when I was there a few days ago are selling MSI!

Is there an advantage to buying here? Any disadvantages? Any idea if I would still be eligible for the warranty?

    Thanks in advance!

    Mainly WARRANTY!!!!!!

If you buy in a country other than the US you will have only the 1 year global warranty once you return home to California.

Buying in the US can get you up to 3 years of MSI USA parts and labor warranty with registration.

Thanks very much!!... my only concern of this notebook is the screen-quality... I think Vaio F Premium screens are the best of all... How is this screen compared? (not a lot of reviews yet for GT780DX)
