OMG~~~ have you checked the price? It's supposed to be 150% more than the same thing in USA. If not, can you tell me the price and where to buy it? cause one of my friends want one as well, I will be buying from USA however

Well, my original idea is based on the assumption (perhaps the incorrect assumption) that a notebook built by a Taiwanese manufacture may be less expensive here. Keeping in mind that there may be a few hiccups (Chinese keyboard, Chinese windows, etc.) that may need to be remedied, it may be worth it. Or it may not be- that's what I'm researching.

My new GT780DX arrived today from GentechPC.com. Its a thing of beauty!

Thanks all for contributing to this forum. This thread was pretty much the primary reason I ended up buying a GT780DX vs Sager, ASUS or Alienware.

And thanks Ken and Gentech for answering all my questions!

Hey, can you tell me why you choose it over the sager & asus? And can you also tell me how much noise it produces in terms of fan? I want to use it for college & gaming, but don't want the fans to be to noisy in class.

The problem is still the warranty any maybe payment of duty upon reentering the US.

The keyboard may not be a problem.

If you install English Windows 7 the keyboard will function in English.

The keys are probably marked with the English alphabet and Chinese characters.

With any keyboard you can add more languages to type in from the Control Panel>Region and Languages>Keyboard and LanguagesChange Keyboard.

If your keys are not marked for additional language you'll need a keyboard layout diagram for the language you want to type in.

I work in Korea,so the keys on my keyboards purchased here are marked in Korean characters and English alphabet. If I add Korean in the control panel I'll get an EN down by the clock that when clicked on will show KO as an option.

The GT780DX finally starts shipping here in Korea today so I should have mine tomorrow.I sold my non DX some days ago.

The remaining stock of the GT780 with i7 2630QM/GTX560M/750Gb/4GB are being discounted by some dealers down to 1,151,000KW;that's about a little more than $1000US.

    Gladly.

VS Sager, it was the temperatures, noise level and style. The Clevo (Sager) are very plain looking and when I spec'ed them to match the MSI and Asus, the price savings wasn't really there. Also, I'd read lots of reviews where the temperatures and noise level soared beyond the ASUS and MSI.

Vs ASUS, this was a close call, but eventually it came down to the matte vs glossy screen, 570M vs 560M and style. The ASUS and MSI can both be quite gaudy, but I liked the style of the MSI more. Temperatures and noise were important to me, so the ASUS had a slight edge there, but not enough to make me go with it.

VS Alienware... Alienware is just too expensive and their noise level reached epic levels. I could never justify paying for an Alienware now that I've researched the MSI and ASUS.

I compliment the contributors on this board, because before I found it, I had been able to find a ton of people telling me to get the ASUS, but nobody really supporting the MSI. But when I found this board, all my questions were answered and found the positive reviews I'd been looking for.

mm, i was looking at the sager, but seems the noise is more than the msi. Asus was way to big; two giant fans in the back & that weird elevation angle it does didn't really entice me. Think I'll be going with the MSI GT780 then ^^

    Question about the -xxx numbers...

Am leaning towards buying the -446 when I get back to the states (currently visiting wife's family in Taiwan), but now when I look at various resellers' sites, I see "-447". Is this new? What differentiates the -447 from the -446?

    TIA!

447US replace the current mode 405US, the only difference is 447US will have GTX570M 3GB instead of 1.5GB and won't be available till December.

Hi everyone, I just bought this laptop... 1 week till arrive to my place.... so i was wondering... if I do a clean windows installation, I have to reactivate my key on MSI website?? I think I read something like that somewhere in this tread.

I got the GT780DX-215US, stock configuration.... Is there a big diference in gaming performance between this and a better CPU, RAM and higher configurations??

No you don't activate Windows with MSI, the activation is go through Microsoft.

After you do clean install just go to system properties and click change product key at the bottom, enter the product key and click next to activate Windows online.

the gaming performance should be no difference between other GT780DXR models, at least no noticeable different.

I also have the GT780DX-215US, I have a few upgrades but the laptop is the same as the other models I have changed the bios to the 3.0e version so I can have the raid 0 and that all works for me fine as raid 0 on these is software and MSI merely didn't allow the some models to have it available unless you flash the bios. I now run the unlocked 3.0e bios so have alot more options in my bios now and I run raid 0. I have also overclocked my GPU so it runs much quicker.

I reinstalled windows using the MSIburnrecovery software and didn't have to enter a key but if your installing from a non OEM version of windows as Gentech have advised you will need to enter the key under your battery if there is a problem worst case it's a call to microsoft to unlock.

Was just looking at some 6990m for my 16F2 from upgradeyourlaptop (CA) on ebay and they do send to UK without any issue as the guy confirmed me and many british peeps from NBR have bought from them.

Anyway, with your 570M, what are the stable clocks your running for gaming (BF3 for instance) ? I can get a 570M + his heatsink for a good deal that's why I am thinking either 6990m and modify my heatsink (dont even know if that's possible though) or 570M+right heatsink which also fits the 580m/6990m with mod. :p

If I were you, I would keep my 570M as you won't get too much more perf from the 6990m with your o/c 850/900

You have to pay ~ £60 customs fee on top of the 6990M price + delivery. Pricey but worth it!

Thanks GeoCake for the input, wow I wasn't aware of that - I just asked the guy from upgradeyourlaptop and he said there was usually nothing to add to the selling price...

Weird that on his feedbacks, no one mentionned the customs fee/taxes on top of the selling price + shipment.

The customs fee for me was the UK VAT rate of the item plus Parcel force handling. I wasn't aware of that at all, and it was VERY annoying but all my worries disappeared once I got the flawless card.

No-one mentions it because it's your responsibility really :( UK sucks tbh

My 570m @9v is stable with the following settings I could prob fine tune it a little more with the SVET bios tool and use the asynchromus setting but not worth it really
    [IMG]

It's the bandwith, bus type and shaders of the 6990m that will make all the difference over the 570m, I believe I want a non dell 6990m as they don't seem to allow any voltage changes

I got stung with UK customs when I purchased my GT780dx a month ago £200 roughly

wow this customs fees make me sick now, I guess when you buy anything as big as a GPU from outside Europe, you eventually get them...my plan to buy a 570M + heatsink from China just fade away

    Hey guys,

I recently ordered the MSI GT780DXR from GenTech.
    This was an amazing decision.

I have a question about the Locked and Loaded Rebate/Promotion that was going on.

Has anyone gotten their free Headset & Mouse yet? If so please post here. I am interested to hear if anyone has gotten theirs yet...or if you know any further information about this promotion.

    About my rig...
    17" display
    16gb RAM
    latest i7 processor
    gtx 570 1.5gb dedicated ram
    120gb OCZ SSD
    750gb 7200 2nd HD

This laptop will boot into windows in around 10-14 seconds completely loading all programs. The multi tasking ability is phenomenal.

For gaming...COD MW3, Battlefield, Warhammer 40000 Space Marine, Sonic Generations, Elder Scrolls V Skyrim, Super Street Fighter IV, Flight Simulator X, all run at AMAZING FPS and can easily be minimized/alt+tabed out of the way to multi task and continue using the machine.

For developing, programs like Photoshop and Dreamweaver take a second to load (As opposed to my old machine where it would be 20seconds to a minute or so just to load up the program). And they can be multi-tasked through with ease!

The Cinema button to increase picture quality and sound is actually amazing. It really does increase the picture and sound to a noticeable difference worth using.

The turbo fan boost is also an amazing feature. When playing today's top games like Skyrim or Modern Warfare 3 for longer then an hour and you will notice that the back left of the unit (where the vents are probably for the graphics card...) gets considerably hotter. Turning on the turbo fans really helps to keep that section of the unit cooler which is a great feature. Without the fans on this machine is SILENT. With the fans blowing on turbo it is still not really loud and completely tolerable if you have a pair of headsets on or have the sound on.

So far everything has been awesome with this machine but I would like to know if anyone has gotten their Free headset/mouse from the Locked n Loaded Promotion.

Thanks everyone here at the owners lounge.

I'm not holding my breath for the headset and mouse. Powernotebooks.com had the same rebate and on their form it says its only for the 1st 100 customers ( http://www.powernotebooks.com/MSIRebate/MSIRebate11-13-11.pdf).

The form I received from MSI didn't have the same note, but I'm sure its in the fine print somewhere. And the rebate # (MIR01749) is the same on my form as well.

As I ordered my laptop on the 11th (2 days before the end of the promotion), I figure I'm out of luck.

If its true, it sucks, because the limitation wasn't listed anywhere on the reseller's sites and the form from MSI doesn't have it either, but what can ya do?

Hello. I have been reading a lot of these forums posts for a while now (made it to page 290 at least here) and I had a few questions about this laptop. I'm liking the size and the price but I did see where this one went from the GTX 560M, if I'm not mistaken, to the GTX 570M. I plan on purchasing one of these awesome notebooks but will this model be offered around March (tax season, I hope to get a decent return) next year? If it will be, will it be upgraded to the GTX 580M or better? I know you guys don't have some magic crystal ball but maybe some good insight as to what MIGHT be available next year.

I mentioned this about 10 pages ago and agree, it seems like a marketing scam. I am sure they sell 100 GT780's or GT683's in a day or two. I am sure not everyone will send in a rebate, but still, you would think they got 100 after the first week. Yet I still got emails from MSI into the third week about the promotion.

I bought mine 4 days after the promo started, and it also still shows as "pending".

It will still be available around that time but you can forget about GTX580M. 570M is as far as MSI will put into those machine. You can always get a seperate GTX580M and replace it yourself though. I sold mine 570M on ebay for $450 so its not too bad.
Another option is that you can wait till June or July where new 6xx cards maybe announced and MSI will have new models with them.

At the request of Ken w/ GenTechPC I reran some overclocking tests. As per his direction I was requested to overclock using TDE & Afterburner to 710, 1420, 1850.

At no point in time was I ever able to overclock the GPU to 710, 1420, 1850 as requested; not with the stock 268.90 MSI driver, nor with the 285.62 & 285.79 NVidia native drivers. Every time I tired the driver crashed and would recover.

I decided to lower the test numbers a bit and see what happened with scary results. When I ran Afterburner at 650, 1300, 1750 I had a LOT of screen aberation. So much so that I was scared to continue the test.

The results can be seen here: MSI GT780 GTX570M Overclocking problems - YouTube

An Alpha version of Intel's RST was released a few days ago,v11.5.0.1111 to be exact that reveals some very intersesting info about the next 11.5 release.

The documentation about the upcoming 11.5 version of the RST drivers has revealed that there will be TRIM support in combination with RAID 0:

The present 11.5.0.1111 release is not able to use TRIM on the RAID0 feature, but it will be added in the next RST 11.5 release.

TRIM helps keep the SSD write performance at a steady level by preemptive cleaning of unused blocks in the background. This eliminates the need for the drive to go through an extra cycle before writing to a previously used block of data on the drive, something that would otherwise degrade performance.

The 11.5.0.1111 Alpha is available on station-drivers.com for anyone interested.

HEY, I wanna know where my love is...... I mean, I was the first to reply to you on the problems with you graphics card, and I even emailed Ken for you immediately thereafter. So where's my love dammit!

    LOL! JUST KIDDING!

Yep, this is precisely why Ken is my notebook guy. He thoroughly understands that it is the customer who is his bread & butter..... so yes, he will always go the extra mile for customer satisfaction, when he can. In doing so, he does so with much personal sacrifice of his time, and many frustrations. Many times he takes the brunt of customer complaints, for issues that should be directed to the manufacturer, not him..... and can you imagine the daily task of email responses alone...... the YouTube videos...... system testing, game & benchmarking support, etc.? Fact is, you can't please all the folks, all of the time, and there are plenty of 'knuckleheads" out there (customers who can't be pleased)..... but he tirelessly tries, nonetheless...... along with all the other facets and responsibilities of his business.

So yes, Ken is deserving of all the 'kudos', and I am sure he doesn't get enough in my opinion..... little consolation for the efforts he puts forth.

Nice post Rescue9, and HOO-RAH Ken! Happy Holidays All!

    Screw the MILK..... GOT TURKEY?

    Hey guys!!!

I just finished re-installing the OS after removing my HDD1, and replacing it with a Samsung 830 Series SSD (256GB). It's smokin' hawt!

I did a complete reinstall rather than ghost it.

FYI, when I asked this before, I never got a clear picture of which HDD was which on the bottom.

So for those of you curious:

Bay 1 = next to the subwoofer speaker
Bay 0 = the other one (next to the earphone jacks)

Now Windows 7 reports that my hard drive performance is 7.9! GO FIGURE!!?
At any rate, Happy Thanksgiving (US) this week to all!

I'm thinking about buying the Gt780DX, but on another country different (BtoTech)
I wonder if these Chimei panels are going well with no dead pixels or vague generally, I'm very maniac with this and buy it in a different country does not have the possibility of return.
(I read a persons with this problems with ChiMei panels)

I received my GT780DX this week and it had no dead pixels. The screen looks very good and I'm quite happy with my purchase.

If you're really concerned about it though, perhaps you can find a reseller with a guaranteed no dead pixel option? I've seen multiple resellers with that option, perhaps there is one that can ship to you? They usually charge like $40 more, but if you're really worried about it, its worth the peace of mind.

I agree completely. I am the same way. When I drop large amounts of funds on a laptop, I want it to be perfect. I myself have had zero dead pixels on mine. I do recommend the extra no-dead pixel insurance though... Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Because I work for a fire department I'm usually stuck at work for anywhere from 24 to 120 hours straight (yea... 5 days in a row really sucks). As such, I need a portable gaming laptop to take from station to station. I don't mind purchasing top of the line every few years just so I don't go stir crazy. However... this is the first purchase I've ever made from a true 're-seller' as opposed to retailer.

It has been the best decision I've ever made! Anyone can sell you a piece of hardware.... but will they be there when / if problems happen? Customer service is where it's at.... and Ken has that covered hands down! This is exactly why I will be getting all my future laptops from Ken.

If you could record those processes, it would be great for many of us. I am thinking of repaste my laptop too.

    :) :) :)

Hi guys, just became the new owner of a GT780DXR. However, it looks like the power cord that came in the box is the wrong kind. It's 250v and has round prongs instead of the flat kind (I'm in the USA). Power inputs has always sort of confused me so I want to verify I can take a random computer power cord I have around (125v 10a) and use that in its place. The power brick itself looks like it takes 100-240v ~ 2.25a for input and has an output of 19v 9.5a. Thanks!

There is a batch that came with wrong power cord, if you have a spare desktop PC power cord or monitor cord you can use it on the 180W adapter, also contact your reseller or MSI to send you the correct cord.

I´m from Brazil and just bought my new GT780DX from powernotebooks.com
Have a friend coming for christmas, and he will bring mine.
Really hope it gets here with no dead or stuck pixel. Let´s wait until next week.

    I´m very excited about it.

Just to confirm (because I thought I read this somewhere and cannot find it in the owner's manual)...

The GT780DX has two hard drive bays and they are both SATA 3, correct? And I believe the optical bay is SATA 2?

    Thanks :)

Correct on both counts. For some reason, most manufacturers don't label this in their manuals although you would think it should be commonplace.
