Sorry to disappoint but everything was completed a few hours after it arrived.

The HDD I got in the unit is a WD 750GB Scorpio Black(made in Thailand on Sept 24th). The memory is 16GB Samsung DDR3-1333.

The free Steelseries headset and mouse is nice to get included in the box but I doubt I'll ever use them.

The heatpipes on the CPU and GPU have date stamp of 2011-11-3

I have no dead or stuck pixels.

I just need to calibrate the screen with my EyeOne Display 2 colorimeter.

The non DX I sold had a WD 500GB Scorpio Black and 8GB Adata DDR3-1333 and cost me more for it back in July than I paid for the new DX.

I have a serious question here. If you guys could help me out, that would be great. :]

Okay, so I'm probably going to get the MSI GT780DXR-446US. I was comparing it to the MSI GT780DXR-099US model, and the only difference in the gb in the video card. one has 3072MB DDR5 nVIDIA GTX 570M, while the other has 1536MB DDR5 nVIDIA GTX 570M.

Since I'm mainly using the laptop for hardcore gaming, how much more better would the 3072mb version be compared to the 1536mb one?

    Thanks again! ^^

My understanding is that 1.5 GB is more than enough memory to handle HD displays. I believe the real benefit you will get from the extra memory in the 3GB model is when you are running in 3D on an external 3D capable displays (or if you are running something on higher than standard 1920x1080 HD resolution)

3gb on a graphics card is generally useless and used for marketing purposes. 1.5 is all you'll ever need.

The 099 model has the older i7 2630QM as the stock CPU.

Try customizing a MSI GT780DX-406 and see how the final cost compares to the "R" model

If you plan on installing an SSD for the primary boot drive you don't need an "R" model with the 2 traditional platter hard drive setup in a Raid0 array.

Any MSI GT780 non Raid model can later be made to Raid0 with 2 SDDs or hard drives and the Raid bios.

If it's speed and performance you want from your boot drive then a SATA III SSD is the way to go.

It should help your in game load times too.

    Hi all,

Try to search this thread for any post related with GTX560M performance when on battery, but can not find any.
So, have no choice but to shoot the question. Is there any way to maintain GTX560M core clock at 700Mhz++ while running on battery? Mine seems to auto down-clock to only 50-150Mhz.
Quite annoying, since all 3D apps activity like gaming will be lag, while on battery.
    Any thought, please?

A few posts back someone was asking if they might put a gtx580m in a newer GT780 version. Found a little info in this article here on the upcoming nVidia 600 series for mobiles.

I've been patiently and Painfully waiting with money in hand since the GT780R came out hoping to see what is unleashed by MSI for CES 2012 for this laptop!

A 256 bit GTX680M would be amazing! (albeit unlikely or quite a while if it does) :D ... ok I'll go back to quietly reading in envy. Cheers . ;)

How much more different is the 215 compared to the 406? They have almost the same specs. The only difference that I can see is the size of their harddrive and the processor. How much of a difference would an i7 2630QM change in gaming compared to the 2670QM? I want to get the 215 since it's actually about 200$ less than the other one.

    here's the specs on them:
    215 - MSI GT780DX-215US - XOTIC PC - MSI GAMING Laptop
    406 - MSI GT780DX-406US - Xotic PC - MSI Gaming Laptop

This will be my final question here. ^^ I'm probably going to order my MSI GT780DX tomorrow from xoticpc. Maybe they'll even have some more deals lol. :p

    Thanks in advance.

I was checking the process to activate warranty on GT780DX, but when msi ask for a new product registration , they only have 2 options for country: USA and Canada... so, if I'm not from any of these countries, how could I activate the warranty... its supose to be global, right?? or I'm missing something??

    Thanks in advance.

    ------- EDIT
Sorry for being such a noob.... I didn't see the Global registration link in 1st post.

On XOTICPC the starting cash price of the MSI GT780DX-215US is $1405.53and the MSI GT780DX-406US is $1502.53

The newer model with the updated CPU would be my choice.

Yay holiday we don't celebrate to us europeans :p I'd love if someone could post a video of skyrim in Ultra settings... Sadly videos of this laptop are keeping me going until Xmas!

Hope you all have a great thanksgiving and an awesome Xmas. I may post videos eventually if I'm not too busy, and if not I've received my laptop and entered skyrim never to return. Sorry for future absenteeism due to loving gaming too much :p

I'd recommend putting your SSD where your primary HDD with OS is now. Makes it much easier.

    Remove the HDD.
    Insert the SSD.
    Install W7 on SSD.
After the installation is done put your HDD back.
    Voila!

There is not a official one from MSI but there are some other brands on the market that will work. You can also use a inverter, we have had good success with those. :)

I have been looking to buy my son a gaming laptop for a couple weeks and have come to the conclusion that the MSI GT780DXR-446US is probably the best deal, for the money and that I can buy it from a reputable site that will give me 12 months same as cash.

I was interested in the Sager NP8170 for around the same price, but couldn't find a website that carries it and has 12 months same as cash.

Is the MSI GT780DXR-446US a good, fast gaming laptop that will stay cool when playing games like World of Warcraft and Minecraft?

    Thanks in advance
    Chris

p.s. if anyone does know a reputable website that carries the Sager NP8170 and offers 12 months same as cash, can you let me know that too :D I went on XOTIC and built one, but they didn't offer 12 month same as cash financing and I don't have the $2100 laying around right now :(

Where would I be able to pick up a GTX580M? how hard would that be to upgrade myself? I've done desktop builds so I'm not completely in the dark on how to build a computer, but laptops are a bit different when it comes to mods right?

Also, why haven't laptop manufacturers standardized the GPU socket like the PCIe slots we have with desktop mainboards?

    hello,

Is it normal on this computer that if I leave the computer OFF and unplugged it's losing its power? I left it for 2 weeks during vacation and when I came back the battery was totally discharged (6%)... Is there something that I can do except a RMA ? Thanks

The gt780dxr won't even break a sweat when playing those games at all. Very taxing games like Battlefield 3 and Skyrim can be played for extended play sessions ( >4 hours) and still run at decent temps.

    Hello,
i own the MSI G780DXR for about 2 months now but i experience a small problem.
the touch panel (next to the power button) doesn't fully function. the P1 button only sometimes work (the light goes on but doesn't do anything) and how can i configure that button? also, the eject button does nothing anymore (gives light, but no action..)

the "dim screen" key on the touch panel doesn't work anymore, and when i press fn f2 to dim my screen, it only flashes black half a second before i see my screen again...

it's probably the driver for the touch panel that is the main problem, but i don't know what's it called  tried to update all my drivers so far :D

ps: sorry if this is allready on this forum, i really can't find anything usefull between all these pages :D

    thank you in advance!

You might try reinstalling netFramwork 4 and the MSI S-Bar Utility

Download: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Web Installer) - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details

    MSI Global ? Notebook - GT780DX

If your keyboard lighting is functioning properly there's no reson to reinstall the Backlit Keyboard LED Manager(KLM)

Using CCleaner can disrupt the S-Bar functioning.

    Hello,
I don't know if someone already asked this question but
which card performs better without overclocking : gtx 560m at 1366*768 or
gtx 570m at 1920*1080 or is there no difference?

I hope you understand what i mean.

Given the huge difference in resolution, I am fairly positive that you can crank all the settings way up and the 560m@1366 will still run circles around 570m@1920.

Any reason you didn't inquire about the GTX570M @ 1366*768?

Are you trying to justify a purchase of the discontinued GTX780 non DX?

From what I remember, it's probably the iCharger utility which can be disabled in the Bios?
It runs down the battery even when the laptop isn't in use.
If I remember correctly now. If not, someone say otherwise :p

    Good to know.

It seems that after I used CCleaner the 1st time the Star disappeared and the ODD exject button no longer worked.

After reinstalling the S-Bar utility and using CCleaner v3.12.1572 everything seems to remain functional after running CCleaner and the Star remains on the desktop.

that's because both utilities removed S-Bar from start up.

If you removed the keyboard you will see the wire from the battery connected to the mainboard. also like MrSeaBass said you might want to explain your problem.

    I can choose between a Laptop with a resolution of 1366*768 with a gtx 560m for 999€, called medion erazer x6817 ( Germany )

or I can choose a Laptop with a resolution of 1920*1080 with a gtx 570m for 1127€, called Deviltech 5700

That's why i asked this question. I want a Laptop where i don't have to reduce a lot of details and the resolution and because the resolution is very different i want to know which card performs better: gtx 560m @ 1366*768 max details ( every game ) or gtx 570m @ 1920*1080 max details ( every game )

Does a Laptop exist with a gtx 570m and a max resolution of 1366*768 ? In my opinion that would be the best solution.

Just the gtx 580m and the hd Radeon 6990m should be strong enough to handle this resolution in almost every game but the gtx 570m ...

    SRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH!

Just to be clear, I have used both Glary Utilities and CCleaner registry cleaning functions without any problems. It was the registry defrag function in Glary Utilities that screwed up the S-Bar... and it was more than just removing it from start up. It wouldn't let me launch S-Bar manually either.

    Well,

On start-up, after MSI logo and hard drives utilities running up, the system gets stuck on this page: Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 083) Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation This product is covered by one or more of the following patents: US5,307,459, US5,434,872, US5,732,094, US6,570,884, USB,115,776 and US6,327,625 Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Series v2.35 (06/14/10) PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable PXE-MOF Exiting PXE ROM. Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key.

    How do I solve this?

I searched on the net, and most of the people said to remove the battery for a few time in order to reset the laptop and it'd be working. That's why im asking how to remove the battery. (All the steps please :( )

Go into your BIOS, and in the boot menu, make sure your hard drive(s) are first in order. Your Realtek LAN controller somehow made it to the top and it's trying to boot off that.
