@UsmanKhan Do you use Unibeast or something else to compile it with Clover? When I used Unibeast, macOS booted but did not recognize the F5's trackpad?

trackpad almost always doesnt works out of box with hackintosh, u need to install these.

Ironically, I do the majority of my gaming on a tower connected to a large-screen TV, because my wife is also a gamer.
I'd say I don't "love" the EVOC keyboard, but I "like" it. The new MBP keyboards are a radical redesign from the previous models, and there is almost zero key travel. I couldn't use that for coding or sysadmin.Aroc likes this. -

There emphatically is an ESC key on the EVOC. There is not an ESC key, nor dedicated F-keys, on the new Macbook Pro with the [ugh!] Touch Bar, which is extremely useful if you just can't live without dedicated keyboard functions for Twitter emojis. Yippee....I guess. >(Last edited: Apr 15, 2017 -

I used modular parts to build a rolling workstation table for the living room. The upper part of the column is high enough that I attached a VESA mounting bracket and a 21" monitor. So I have a two-monitor rig even when I'm working downstairs in the evening. My work desk, in my office upstairs, of course was an easy place to mount a second monitor.
A chunk of my income tax refund is probably going to upgrade those two monitors to slightly larger size, and 4K. It's useful to have the laptop screen and external monitor the same resolution.UsmanKhan likes this. -

Technically, it is not a "laptop". The correct term is "pentacopter".

@Mr. Fox build a desktop and have best of both worlds.
I have a desktop with a 1080ti and before the gpu upgrade the F5 stood toe-to-toe with it from a performance standpoint. I do agree, laptops are a pain when it comes to cooling and constant worries to the point you modify them and they aren't as "mobile" as you would like in the end. Let's not even talk about how big power supplies are getting..
-
I actually like them to be huge, heavy and loud. The thin and light "portable" stuff really makes we want to puke. I am just really disgusted that everything available in a notebook has been so severely castrated by cancerous firmware, sloppy engineering, lousy QC, and on top of all that now, the worst version of Windows since the release of Windows ME. Of course, the latter affects desktop owners as well.Aroc, UsmanKhan, Spartan@HIDevolution and 3 others like this.

Hello guys,
I'm new here and I'd like your help to add more 16gb RAM to my 16G-L-1080/Tornado F5.
Are these memories ok? Corsair Vengeance Pro Sodimm (CMSX16GX4M2A2400C16)
Thank youMr. Fox likes this. -

They should work just fine, but what are your current RAM sticks configuration?Nourival Pedroso likes this. -
Thanks for your time and your reply. I was able to get the graphics drivers updated. I used DDU as you had suggested, and then also did a custom clean install upon reinstalling them. I went with the next to newest drivers, directly from NVidia's site. It hadn't occurred to me to try DDU for that issue. Thanks!
So I'm looking at XTU and also at @syscrusher post, like you suggested. I think I'd prefer to just do a static undervolt. I've had issues with auto voltages going way too high before, and in turn making the CPU way too hot (on desktops mind you, not on a lappy). That being said, the option to change the "Core Votage Mode" from Adaptive to Static is greyed out for me. Intel Turbo Boost is also grayed out, and set to Enable. Turbo Boost Short Power Max is set to Enable, but it is adjustable by me (not greyed out).
Any suggestions for this?
I'll check out f.lux
Thanks again! -
Days like this I don't think I'm missing too much. And, whether or not I have 'the best laptop keyboard' (whatever that is supposed to mean) is not even a distant thought lurking somewhere in the corners of my mind.

Hmmmm..... I had that same issue, and I am trying to remember what I did to fix it. I *think* it became enabled when I changed the Core Voltage setting, in the right-hand column, to something other than the default. Mine is currently at 1.150V, but YMMV. Be sure your voltage offset (left-hand column) is zero.
Here's a screen shot of my current settings from that page. Hope this helps.

How are your temps below room temperature when under load ? Small tray in the Freezer, like on the Alienware benches you used to run ?
It's essentially something missing from the context of these benches, and the information given when I see the temperatures reached a height maximum of 22C (when things were at peak) and disapeared afterwards.
Might as well liquid Nitrogen cool the system lol. -
I worked at a place in my country called Hotel School back in the day, before NBR. I was IT there and a lot of the students would bring laptops to ask us to fix up. The NUMBER of garbage keyboards I've seen... you don't even realize. Holy meowmix. I had a HP Pavilion something or other (I forget the exact model number, and could never find references to it online) and that was like heaven compared to those peoples' own. And then when I got my D900F that blew everything out of the water. I've still yet to use a keyboard that feels as good as that D900F keyboard did. I was even capable of easily doing 720° rotations using WASD when playing Street Fighter on it for Zangief's super and ultra combos.
But really, the P370 and P870 keyboards aren't bad, by a long shot. They're somewhere between decent and good. They're not good, and definitely not great or fantastic, but they're nowhere near as bad as some people make it out to seem, that's for sure.
It is however a bit off-putting that the P6 models have a supposedly better keyboard and they're the budget option from Clevo though.
As for the MSI Steelseries keyboard, I've always heard it was hit or miss. There was one time that Clevo units offered them, back on P150EM models, but I believe they lost the license (either MSI bought exclusivity rights or Clevo didn't care to keep paying for it when mostly only the gaming crowd used them) so there was that.
Also, you may want to use the multi-quote function instead of making 3-4 replies in a row to different people. -
No freezer. I have never done that. You're thinking of @scook9 (now goes by @cookinwitdiesel)
Just a portable air conditioner with the laptop getting a steady dose of cold air forced into it.
Sometime this just ain't good enough.
When it's not, you pretend the laptop is a muscle car... like ram air in the winter time. Slickest thing since WD-40. Better than water cooling. Look Mom, no hoses.

@Mr. Fox, what SPL meter app are you running? I've been looking for one of those, but there are a zillion search hits, and I suspect the adware is probably rather yucky on a lot of them. What's your recommendation? -
woodzstack Alezka Computers , Official Clevo reseller.
Thought you showed a small prtable freezer in your basement with a tray to hold your M17X-R4 back in the day or AW17.. or was it the SLI ones ? I forget, but pretty sure you shared a pic, just assuemd it was that. Either way, getting like 70C below normal temps under load when over 30% overcloked is still pretty good. must be some damn crazy fans.
How load is it? If you have a smart phoine you can download free soundmeter applications and use that to measure !Mr. Fox likes this. -
This one...
I wish I could find that picture again. But, it was the guy I mentioned that did that. It was a picture he posted a long time ago. I shared it again and that may be what you remember, but cannot find it any more. I should have downloaded it and saved it to my imgur account.

Oh so it's loud... but not too too loud, actually I would have guessed much higher from just the fans themselves.
I have 5 of the quietest Noctua fans on my main rig, and they produce more sound then what your getting. (because buzz and friction and multiple...etc.. get like 40+ dba)
My F5 on max fans hit almost 100+ AT 1m AWAY... -
Really? I can hardly tell when the fans are running maxed out on my TF5. I wonder why they are different? I find it almost disturbing how quiet mine are, and they are not very powerful fans. I would gladly accept having them be louder if it meant they were pushing a ton of air and running cooler. I wish the fans from the DM3 would work in the TF5. Now those are some crazy fans. I really like them.
-
woodzstack Alezka Computers , Official Clevo reseller.
All F5's are the same in this regards. I've had in my hand more then I can recall or count...
You know, I sell these right, for a living... configured built and prepared and tested thoroughly, each one... like 16 hours a day 7 days a week for the last 4-5 months... I can admit some are reasonably more loud then others, but nothing noteworthy, we're talking variance in the fans themselves. -
Yes, I know you sell them. But, mine are not even a little bit loud when running max speed. Maybe something is wrong with my fans. They are not very powerful either.
-
woodzstack Alezka Computers , Official Clevo reseller.
Count it as a blessing.
Most Clevo's and MSI laptops at full =+150% fan speeds make a very audible whine. Not like the older M17X-R4 though when it takes off like an jet..lol -

I just had a bit of a mare trying to upgrade mine from 16GB of MSI24D4S7S8MB-8 to 32GB. See here
I am now waiting to hear back from my reseller to find out if they can get an exact match. I ended up sending the KVR24S17S8's back as Windows 10 just did not like them.
After contacting MSI directly, they wanted €208 for a pair of the MSI24D4S7S8MB-8.Attached Files:

I'm not experiencing that issue with Creators Abortion. It has been OK in that regard.Maybe it was the GeForce driver that caused it. NVIDIA is hit or miss lately. Two of the last 4 driver releases break brightness controls on my P870DM3 on Windows 10, but the same driver on Windows 7 does not have broken brightness controls.
I actually like the fans in the P870DM3 a lot. They are pretty loud, but far more powerful than most laptop fans and that matters to me a lot more than loud does. The fans in the Tornado F5 (at least mine) are neither loud nor powerful. There is a bit of a whine that I can detect if I pay attention to it, but it's not obnoxious or loud. But, at full blast there isn't a whole lot of air getting blown out of it. Before I added the two grilles there was almost no air that could be felt... very little exhaust pressure.Last edited: Apr 17, 2017 -
My Fangbook 4 came with two sticks of 8GB already installed on the backside of the motherboard, this is Kingston MSI24D4S7S8MB-8. I purchased an additional two sticks of Kingston KVR24S17S8 thinking they would work. The memory timings/speed are the same, 17-17-17-39, the trouble was they do not get recognised by Windows. BIOS and CPU-Z see it, but not Windows and I tried everything.
The timings on the CPU-Z screenshot @Nourival Pedroso posted a few pages back are identical to my existing sticks. So I am thinking they should work.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I balked at the amount of special permissions it wanted on my phone. The app insists it needs to be able to monitor my phone activity, and that seemed excessive for a sound app. (Admittedly, I'm a bit paranoid about privacy.)Aroc, UsmanKhan, hmscott and 1 other person like this. -

and the only way I got windows to see all 4 sticks of ram was when I unlocked my bios with svet, but I see in your sig that you have already done that...

All things I have considered, however having already stripped down the laptop twice I do not particularly want to be doing it anymore just to remove the RAM. Not when it should be as simple as whopping a couple of sticks into the vacant uppermost slots - a route which does not involve reselling on fee-bay.
Well Amazon has just delivered my new Logitech M705 mouse and what I am hoping are some Crucial ram sticks!hmscott likes this.
