Positive ! It's disabled completely,at least that's what Windows is saying. I really hate the fact that stock bios is so crippled on a laptop that cost over 3k cnd$ for top specs.

No ,bios on my laptop is stock. I will probably get unlocked one soon,i'd like to get ram running on 3000mhz instead of default 2400mhz.

No, the Prema BIOS for the EVOC 16L-G-1080 is not available for the Tornado F5.

No worries, you should always make the best deal you can.

Just for clarification, the 20% is not an import tax, it is your UK VAT, that you pay one way or the other regardless of where you buy it.

The stock BIOS will not accept any modded firmware. Even if you had the Prema BIOS files in your possession you would not be able to apply them. A cancer-free tweaked version of the stock BIOS has to be forced onto the chip with a hardware programmer first because we are beset by Nazi control freak ODMs that believe they have a right to play god and restrict what people can do with their private property. You can thank MSI for that filth, but rest assured that they are not alone in their acts of betrayal against customers... that vile nonsense has become status quo, unfortunately.

Just contact support by first creating a ticket by going to thier website and using the support tab, do not worry about there being no a perfect system for this exactly, just fill in whatever you can, make sure to get the bios and EC version and your serial number and if known hen you purchased it and then write what your intention is in the space provided.,

Hi! I'm a brand new owner of a Tornado F5, nice to meet you.

I received it yesterday and I noticed that the 4K Matte IPS monitor installed is a:
    SAMSUNG FL156FL02-101
I expected to receive a Sharp one instead
Does anyone have a ICC file for this monitor? Because I found it a little too much red and I'm getting crazy with color config.

Where did you see an option for a Sharp panel? I've only seen the Samsung panel during any config of this MSI barebone unit.

I ordered it from Eurocom Europe because I live in Europe and there was a special 20% discount.
The website doesn't tell you what monitor you are going to receive, it tells that if you choose to receive the laptot WITH Gsync you are going to receive Samsung or LG panel only.
I chose the "QFHD Matte IPS" option. My only concern is about the sRGB gamut: 71% for my Samsung, 96% for the Sharp.

Do you see an actual problem with it while looking at the screen, or only the published numbers (specs) are a concern?

You expected the Sharp panel even though it was never advertised as being available? I know the configurator for Eurocom is a bit unclear but I don't see any option for a Sharp panel.

Contrast is OK; i'm a bit concerned about reds and greens, and the screen without calibration seemed to be orange. It's going better after screen calibration with a probe, anyway. It's a good screen after all.

I read somewhere that the Matte IPS panel sold by Eurocom was the Sharp, I don't remember where, but for sure it was the Canadian configurator, not the European, so is my mistake 2 times!

You got the wrong panel ? Why were you expecting a Sharp ? Where did you purchase this from ?
Just curious where anyone gets that this is the 40pin eDP Sharp 4K panel instead of the 30/40pin eDP Samsung 4K

It looks like variations of this Panel will work in the unit, though it does not support G-Sync.

it does appear to be a better quality panel overall.

This discussion inspired me to try an experiment with my 4K panel.

HYPOTHESIS: Since 3K on a 15" screen is retina-level (that is, the normal human eye, at normal viewing distance, cannot distinguish individual pixels because their angular separation relative to the eye's POV is too small), I hypothesize that one could scale the 4K display down to 3K with little or no visible fidelity loss, and mitigate scaling issues.

EXPERIMENT: I went into NVidia Control Panel and added a custom resolution of 2880x1620. This is approximately 3K resolution, and is the standard 16:9 aspect ratio. It's also very close to the resolution of a Macbook Pro Retina (my previous laptop). I tested and saved the new custom resolution, then selected it as the default in Windows. Microsoft picked a scaling factor of 150% (versus picking 200% by default at 4K), but I bumped it down to 125%.

RESULT: There is a very slight loss in sharpness, which visually appears to me as if the anti-aliasing on fonts was set just a bit too aggressive. It isn't noticeable unless you are, as I am in this test, specifically looking for artifacts. Most of my apps already worked fine at 4K, but the couple of really ancient apps that can't handle 4K work much better at (circa) 3K. I set my scaling to 125% from the default 150%. Now i am getting just a little more "real estate" on the screen, but with fewer scaling issues than from scaling 4K at 150% or 175%.

I'm going to run with this for a little while and see how I like it.

Probably I made confusion reading somewhere that the "4k Matte Ips" monitor would have been the Sharp, np

Yea, the color coverage seems to be far better; anyway the Samsung is not bad at all; it just needs some calibration to avoid awful reds in photos :D

Answer: Meh. I went back to 4K and scaling at 175%. The size of things on the screen is very close to the same, and I didn't realize how accustomed I had become to the razor-sharp fonts on the full 4K. As I said, I only have 1 or 2 apps with scaling issues, and I've worked around those with Compatibility Mode settings. The experiment worked, my hypothesis is "mostly" correct, but ultimately it wasn't worth it.

not true, you can select your screen. G-Sync is merely there to tell you which panels have it white listed in the bios i.e are capable of allowing it to be enabled.

The problem with this experiment is that the resolution scaling interpolation will degrade a bit of quality. It's not going to look as good as a native 3K panel.

But I totally agree with your assessment of 4K. I'm never going back to supbar fonts. I can tell the difference between 1080p and 4K easily. I use my 4K panel at 250% scaling. Fonts and UI elements look amazing. It's also amazing how sharp fonts and UI elements in games look at 4K. 1080 has basically made it possible, for now anyway, for me to run every game in 4K. I think the Blade did a much better job at scaling games down though. 1080p/900p (1800p native) looked much better on the Blade than even one notch down does on this EVOC. The blurry comes quick on this one. Thankfully I don't have to worry about it at the moment. Maybe I have a scaling quality setting I haven't looked for yet misconfigured.

If the machine already has Svet's Bios on it (as I belive it does) can a newer Bios be installed?

No, not using conventional methods. Svet and Prema both have their unique proprietary techniques of circumventing the Secure Flash cancer, but they are not compatible. You cannot flash a modded BIOS over the stock BIOS, or Svet's BIOS mod, because of Secure Flash firmware signing cancer interfering with your property ownership rights.

You can, however, flash a properly signed stock cancer firmware over a mod because it has a digital signature from the Nazi control freaks that built the machine. In this scenario, newer doesn't mean better. In fact, it would be a tragic firmware downgrade in spite of a newer release date.

It's only so complex because the manufacturers insist maintaining complete control over the hardware. If everybody made enough noise or voted more with their dollars, this wouldn't be as much of an issue.

Just be glad that Svet and Prema both have a way to bypass the secure flash garbage (for now anyways).

I'm about to buy myself one of those programmers and get to work on unlocking more of the power of my 1070 with a TDP modded firmware.

My new cable will be in Friday so I will also be running 4k at around the same scaling if this cable works. Lol. Last one did not, I don't know if it was a bad cable or just was wired differently. New one should be an OEM match to what comes with the Tornado

Guys, I'm feeling stupid after re-reading this discussions.

    1) The first mod I applied to my new Eurocom Tornado F5, that is exactly the same machine that has @Mr Fox except for the CPU (6700K instead of 7700K), was a set of 16 GB DDR4-3000 Corsair soDimm modules. Mounting these banks, the system is not able to boot. Using the module sent from Eurocom with the notebook, the notebook boots. Why doesn't it like this genuine Corsair set?

    2) I'm not able to modify max drawing power and max temperature target in every GPU tweaking program: the cursor appears gray and unselectable. What I'm doing wrong?

    Thank you in advance.

Don't feel bad Brother @Skylake_ because you've done nothing wrong. The world we live is in a state of rapid decline because of many years of corrupt leadership and wrong-living. Things are getting dumbed-down in all areas and most of the sheeple are too stupid to even notice. The realm of technology is no exception. Notebooks are at the forefront of the gimp-o-rama.

    1) If you have the stock BIOS you can only run stock RAM... all of the settings are locked down. Your beast is shackled and its gonads are in a vice.

    2) Nobody is able to adjust those things with notebook GPUs with a stock vBIOS because NVIDIA is super-retarded and thinks they have a right to keep those things out of our reach.

Do you have another stick of memory in the bottom slot under the keyboard? When I got mine from HID they only put 1 8gig stick in, but put it under the keyboard. I know using different size sticks of memory and speeds can cause issues and potentially a machine to not boot or get the full performance that it should out of it. Did you remove the stick Eurocom put in and there's nothing else in there? Does the machine POST or just not boot into windows?

    2. I am pretty sure Nvidia completely locked down these 10 series of cards as Fox has said before and you cannot change anything about them aside from maybe undervolting without hardware flashing the cards.

Edit: Stock bios means you can only run stock RAM? Like there's only the 3 or 4 sticks/models the manufactures offer that will actually work in the machine and if you buy any third party ones to upgrade yourself the machine won't boot? That seems a little ridiculous unless you are getting some crazy speed high end ram or something, I have never heard of something quite to that extreme before aside from soldering memory to boards. I mean if I go and buy any Dell or HP or Lenovo locked down AF machine I can open it up and throw any ram or HDD/SSD in there for the most part. Seems a little odd that a machine like this geared towards enthusiasts will not work with anything other than stock ram? Or do you mean stock speeds?

Maybe I did not say it in a way that was clear enough. By stock I meant the default memory profile. The stock BIOS does not allow XMP or any customization of memory settings. I did not mean you could only use the RAM that comes with it. But, you are correct about mixing up differing RAM modules. That has never been a good idea. And, you should only run 2 or 4 matching stick, no 1 or 3, or mismatched modules. If you use 1 or 3 memory modules the machine will not function in dual channel mode.

    1) Mmm yes, I didn't order custom BIOS but, as the site tells "you can install RAM up to 3200 MHz" I expected I could do it with or without unlocked BIOS, because they don't told me "you can install 3000 MHz memories only with custom BIOS because 3000 MHz is a special profile". Fortunally they sold me 2400 MHz RAM instead of 2133 MHz, so the gap is closer, and the module was installed in 1 of 2 slots on the lower side.
If i put 1 Corsair 3000 MHz bank replacing the "stock" bank, the PC won't boot. It starts up but does nothing, the screen keeps shut down.

In the case that I want absolutely to upgrade the BIOS, I understood that I have to pay AND to send the laptop back to Eurocom because it's impossible to upgrade the BIOS manually... or that's only valid with 3rd party BIOS (Prema, etc)?

    2) I asked about power and thermal target as I saw a recent @Mr Fox post showing that settings unlocked. Should I flash something to get them unlocked?

Probably, I should have ordered this notebook from EVOC so I'd have received a delidded CPU and a fully working BIOS / vBIOS......................

There is not a good vBIOS with unlocked settings available. With Pascal, NVIDIA introduced a draconian flash protection scheme that only allows the flashing of firmware that has been signed by NVIDIA and/or the OEM. Modded firmware is not flashable. If there were a good high performance vBIOS available right now, the only way it could be applied is with a programmer. The tweaks that are possible with the tool provided by @Coolane provide modest performance increases, but we won't see a lot of crazy performance magic taking place with Pascal thanks to NVIDIA's control freak approach to things. The slightest change using that software tool also requires using a programmer to apply it because any modification made breaks the signature. In other words, what they have done has ruined things for even the casual gamers that only want to do some minor tweaks to smooth out the bumps and minimize performance hiccups.

The only reason this is not a truly horrible situation is because most Pascal GPUs provide better performance than we have seen before in spite of being a firmware crippled mess. And, the situation is not really any better for desktop owners. NVIDIA went out of their way to throw a monkey wrench into the works. I doubt this situation will improve with time. In fact, I suspect it will only get worse.

DHL is in stupid mode for not making it clear that they will not ship my RMA EVOC with the battery still inside! Now I had to return home and ship it after one day with the battery removed.

@Mr. Fox Does the Prema Bios for the EVOC Typhoon also gives the GTX 1080 a slight bump in performance? Right now the card sucks around 177watts, is it going to get 200watts?

Another thing, what performance gains to go from 2400Mhz ram speed to 3000?

I have 32GB 2400Mhz ram installed, how much can I overclock it with @Prema bios?

I laid the payment for a fresh install of a FHD 120Hz screen to drop the 4K (DSR will do) and the full package of laser engraving by HIDevolution.

I want to say, I kept talking to my friends about the EVOC Typhoon and mentioned @Mr. Fox incredible work and @Prema as well @Phoenix with the whole community here being so awesome offering support at every level possible. They even wanted to know the website I bought my EVOC from, @Ted@HIDevolution & @Donald@HIDevolution should expect some more customers passing by their store for a nice one.

Yes, the @Prema firmware package for EVOC 16L-G-1080 includes an optimized vBIOS. You'll easily pull a bit over 200W with that GPU and the clocks will hold better under heavy load.

The key to avoiding performance degradation with all Pascal GPUs is temperature. You have to keep all Pascal GPUs well below normal operating temperatures (as in abnormally cold) for them to perform as advertised. All Pascal GPUs will underperform at normal operating temperatures because of NVIDIA's bad judgment in firmware engineering. It doesn't make any sense at all, especially considering NVIDIA has told their partners that 95°C is acceptable. If that were actually true, it begs the question as to why they designed them to begin throttling and dropping performance at less than 50°C.

Is it unlikely that @Prema will be able to jettison that garbage execution set due to signed firmware security, or is there a glimmer of hope that we may some day have reasonable thermal throttling limits?

Oh yeah it is going to happen. In fact, we're working on it and making inroads on that... little by little. Suffice it to say it's a huge mess and requires an inordinate amount of effort, including frequent disassembly along with tedious trial and error testing. My 1080 cards in the P870DM3 have been bricked a number of times in the process, LOL.

That's the beauty of using a programmer as a sledgehammer to bypass flash protection. You don't have to be worried about firmware bricking. But, that's a double-edged sword as well. What that means is the average gamer and many bonafide performance enthusiasts will never get the bang for buck they used to count on. Many are terrified of using a hardware programmer, and many will find the cost of purchasing those tools for a single flash of an optimized vBIOS that others have poured out a lot of blood, sweat and tears on will be cost prohibitive.

Another snag that will affect the masses is that once such a vBIOS is perfected it will not be available universally. Only a certain group of end users will have access to it, and it won't even be compatible with all GPUs for those that might acquire it surreptitiously or deceptively through an unauthorized channel. In many cases it will work only on products it was designed for because NVIDIA and their partners so wisely thought it would be a good idea to do away with MXM standards. Today we have as many standards as we do OEMs and sometimes multiple standards under the umbrella of a single OEM.

Clearly, this was a deliberate and malicious assault by NVIDIA on the customer base of their OEM notebook partners. Sadly, the vast majority of OEMs raised white flag, drank the Kool-Aid and went with the BGA flow (pun intended).

    That's a good news, thank you! :)

EDIT: I noticed that the "unlocked BIOS" option is not available at all on the european site of Eurocom, but clearly selectable on the canadian one. Bwoah... Peace...

Hey everyone! It's been awhile since I last posted. I have been crazy amounts of busy!! So now that I'm getting around to posting I wanted to know something that y'all think are an absolute must to do on this laptop when you first get it? I have had mine for a couple of months now and absolutely love it even with it straight out of the box like I got it. Obviously plays games like a champ! It's just great! But what are some apps for monitoring/tweaking that are an absolute must for me to do to make think beast roar?

If I've already had the @Prema flashed BIOS, will I be able to remotely flash the vBIOS updates?

Yes, once the Prema BIOS is on your machine, you will be able to receive remote updates.

    Da fuq?

I'm "gone" from laptop gaming for about 1.5 years and this is the crap that happens? I was perusing Eurocom's site, seeing if any of the machines there are suitable for my current needs, and the Tornado F5 piqued my interest.

What's the point of all this great hardware if it's crippled by locked-down software/firmware? I'm probably just going to stick to a mainstream business-grade notebook until this gets sorted out (hello Dell Precision). Luckily I have my custom-built desktop that I can play with (mostly) to my heart's desire. Heck, I can over-clock my CPU/GPU/RAM directly from within windows thanks to all those funky apps.

OEMs really need to start sticking it to NVIDA/Intel. Why are laptops treated so differently from desktops?

Not much has changed in the past few years. All laptops with stock firmware suck because of it, and this is not a new problem.

Eurocom and HIDevolution both offer an unlocked BIOS that supports RAM overclocking, so no worries. It was not until recently that it was offered, so a fair number of customers have the crippled MSI filthware that needs to be unlocked. Some have already corrected this defect with a Svet BIOS.

Ah I see, at least there's that.

Still, I'm just not a fan of how locked-down a lot of laptops are, and how much work needs to be done just to get them to the same level of flexibility that desktops offer right off the bat, free of charge. I pretty much own my desktop and can do what I please with it. It should be the same with laptops.

I absolutely agree with you. If they were made properly there would be no need for firmware mods to correct the serious defects and missing functionality/features that are status quo.

System BIOS, yes. The vBIOS is a different story. Unless a way is found to sign the vBIOS or circumvent NGREEDIA's Falcon protection filth, no modded GeForce firmware cannot be flashed except by using a hardware programmer.
