Yeah, I remember you talked about Msi heatsink reached it's cooling capacity, hence I asked about if you should try it there. Regarding I asked about the paste viscosity. How it's feels between your fingertips vs. Kryonaut and the other mentioned.

Edit. And there ain't much other thermal paste brands out there now who is useful for testing purposes after you are finished with this one.

The vBIOS cannot be modded without a hardware flashing kit

vBIOS can Be flashed without programmer, according to MrFoxRox, only if you are flashing a stock vBios (not modded) through nvFlash

You don't have to worry about the subsystem ID not matching. That has been that way for years. It doesn't affect anything. It is common for OEMs to use the same vBIOS on many models of laptops with the same GPU, but have the subsystem ID (motherboard hardware ID) for only one of their notebooks. Clevo, Dell/Alienware, MSI and probably everyone else does that. Flashing it will not apply the wrong information to the firmware and the system will not be misidentified.

Attached is the stock MSI 16L13 1080 vBIOS with the original (low/gimped) intended 150W power limit. You cannot use it for a 1070 and I do not have that vBIOS. Maybe one of the guys with a 1070 can dump it and upload it for you. I'm just putting it here in case someone with a 1080 needs it.

If you have a 1080 you can flash the MSI one I posted a link to maybe a week ago. I've also used my stock 200W Clevo 1080 vBIOS and it worked perfectly fine with the MSI 1080. Because both are OEM (not modded) and properly signed you can use NVFLASH for Pascal.

Stock 200W Clevo 1080 vBIOS on MSI 150W 1080 in 16L13. As you can see... Works great. But, you'll have to be aware of and deal with higher temps with another 50-70W of power getting pumped out by that GPU. While I have removed the fear, standard disclosures apply... meaning flash at your own risk, of course.

Can anyone confirm if the keyboard in the 16L13 identical to the GT62VR/GT72VR/GT73VR keyboard?

Also is anyone using a silicone cover on their keyboard? I'm anticipating my delivery soon, just want to make sure I keep the keyboard as dust and crumb free as possible!

I received my book back from HID. I'm pulling over 200 watts from the gpu now. Running straight from HID without any tweaks I was able to run close to my best firestrike bench. The other run had a higher cpu OC. I'm pretty happy about that. My temps have improved a great deal. I've noticed much better temps on the cpu and slightly better in the gpu. Considering I was pulling 160 watts before and getting better temps pulling over 200 watts now is really impressive.

No, I'm only searching for a replacement because Samsung's pentile yellow rendition is awful, even after calibration!

There's one of the best 4k 15.6 panels (according to Notebookreview) that seems to fit well on my Tornado F5: AUO B156ZAN02.1

The screen you linked has different mounting methods than the screen that fits in the F5. I have been dealing with screens/cables for a while now. Was a fun journey to finally get the correct 4k cable. I have been looking at the sharp screens because I want one also, but since the mounting is different it will be "fun" to make work. Not super difficult, but not easy.

It's a common mis-conception that the MSI 16L13 and the GT62 are built on the same model base, but they are totally different, so you'll want to get parts for your GT62 specifically.

Although, if the screws are the same spec, they can be shared :D

I bought all new stainless steel screws for my Clevo from this place: http://www.laptopscrews.com/M2x4.htm and they are dirt cheap. The postage will cost more than the screws, LOL.

Besides the stainless steel being more durable, I recommend the pan head screws. They are beefier than the wafer head screws. Just be aware, stainless steel is not very sensitive to magnetism and will barely even try to stay attached to magnetic screwdrivers. I mention it so you don't accidentally drop a screw into the chassis and have to take apart your laptop to retrieve it. Seems like screws think it is funny to find the most obscure places to bounce into... Murphy's Law.

Easy to see why since they are the same on the outside (as @Diversion shows in the opening post). But, you're right. The similarities end with the aesthetics. 16L13 is a great product, while the GT62 is just another brick in the wall in a market saturated with overpriced, wimpy and disposable gamer-boy BGA turdbooks.

Thanks! The screws for the GPU heatsink should be the same though. One of my screws is slightly stripping. I can tighten fine but I do not want risk it. I want to have screws in case I need them in the future.

The BGA hate lol, I get it but most people do not know what BGA and LGA are so manufacturers will keep making BGAs lol.

Yeah, just identify the size you need and order the stainless steel panhead screws. I bought multiple sizes and replaced a whole a bunch of them besides the GPU screws. Screws purchased from the OEM are usually marked up by about 400% more than they are actually worth.

I don't know why laptop manufacturers seem to choose the softest, crappiest screws they can find for laptop GPUs. They are so soft they usually begin to show evidence of wear and distortion in the Philips slot the first time you use them, even when the screwdriver tip is exactly the right size.

Hate is a mild way of expressing the utter contempt I have for BGA. The right words are not permitted by forum rules and using them would be out of character for me anyhow. Vulgar expressions would be most accurate. Unfortunately, the bar is set very low due to consumer ignorance, compromise, misrepresentation and marketing fraud. Those of us with higher standards suffer because of the lowest common denominators. That seems to be the trend in other areas of life as well. We will all ultimately be limited to what our ignorant, reprobate and apathetic friends are willing to put up with. (I use the word "friends" genuinely here, as some of them are great people that I honestly do care about apart from their tolerance for filth.) There are only two high performance laptops models available today that I would consider buying. A third one is OK except for the crappy unified heat sink, so I have to scratch that one off my list for that reason alone. I view everything else as garbage. BGA filth has almost ruined everything in notebooks. I cannot identify even one BGA model that I have any respect for.

What's going wrong whit the AUO that I mentioned ( AUO B156ZAN02.1 )? It has a 40pin EDP connection, that is the same of my Samsung LTN156FL02-101. What seem to be different are the lower screw holes, which appear to be on the side instead of under the monitor. Upper holes seems to be the same.

you may be intrested in this one instead. it was tested on this thread by @Talon. he confirm it to have much better color, accuracy, response and can be overclock to 95mhz. it's not g-sync thos the sharp you linked wasnt either.

I've noticed a bizarre 'bug' on my temp sensors: they'll give a steadily increasing reading to about 85 degrees, then spike dramatically to 96-98 degrees, with no tangible increase in heat emitted or workrate.

The spikes last less than a second, and happen extremely irregularly, so I'm at a loss as to know if they're actually happening or not.

    Can anyone advise?

No, that's actually pretty old. Contact @Eurocom Support about getting their unlocked BIOS.

No, that is Intel Management Engine. Download the 'Hotkey' package and that has KLM, SCM and some other less useful trash that nobody needs. KLM and SCM let you control features that cannot be controlled without them. The other MSI app stuff is just bloatware that does stuff in Windows you can already do without wasting drive space on unnecessary garbageware.

CPU or GPU spikes? If you are using a customized fan table instead of the default that might cause that. If you press the button and leave the fans maxed out do you still see erratic behavior, or does it seem to happen only when fans are self-controlled?

It's not on every core at the same time, too, which is why it's puzzling me.

Either way, I need to reduce the temperature; is there a collected guide to this beast, or should I*** make one?

Very good! Now the problem is different: this one has a 30pin eDP connector, instead my monitor is a 40pin eDP interface. How can I solve this?

For "new 4K lcd": There's the AUO B156ZAN02.3 that has brackets in correct position; I asked to AUO if the difference between AUO B156ZAN02.1 and AUO B156ZAN02.3 is only in bracket position. Stay tuned

Were you using XTU to undervolt?

I had it happen a couple of time when using XTU. I had to reset the BIOS to regal settings to clear it up.

I didn't reset it with the battery. I just rebooted into the BIOS menu and reset the BIOS to its default. That cleared it up for me.

I haven't been able to use XTU since I had the unlocked BIOS flashed.

Someone more knowledgeable will have to chime in. That was the extent of my experience with that problem

    Sorry.
