My laptop could have an ec problem which is why the screen might not be turning on.

I could try reflashing that too

Hey. I have the same issue. For some reason a couple of weeks ago the CPU fan started working very weirdly. First it just started to spin up at random times, but now when i boot my machine it won't spin at all(not even with the cooler boost) and then after like an hour it starts to constatly spin up and then down.

I'm very frustrated by this but i have no idea how to fix it. Maybe its just because some windows update? It seems like rather a software problem and not a hardware one.

For those that have done the 8700k BIOS mod, can you flash straight from a custom BIOS such as SVET? He always told me to never update my BIOS unless I send him my existing file first. Before I even consider this I want to sure, but I believe @Talon had a SVET bios as well.

Really excited to see the progress with new CPUs, would love to upgrade mine in the future at some point. My laptop is more than powerful enough for me and what I need right now, and to be honest I have not even turned it on or used it since completing my new desktop aside from turning it on a couple times to get data off of it. Maybe in the future if I want to upgrade my desktop I can get a 9900k in there and put my 8700k in my laptop, or just buy a 9900k for both machines :). Awesome work guys, even though I do not have as much of a need for this laptop anymore and have not been giving it the use it deserves lately, I am so happy with my purchase and that I find this machine instead of going with some other BGA book or buying another AW or "main stream gaming laptop" and getting a real computer instead. So happy to see that I still actually have an upgrade path for it too and the 7700k is not the end.

No, I had the Eurocom unlocked official BIOS and it flashed with a USB drive without issue.

I also flashed a EVOC official BIOS without issue with a USB drive.

I've tested both 8700K and 8086K without issue.

In case you need the EC ... straight from Eurocom with nice windows installer. Too bad mine cannot go into Windows (haha).
    http://downloads.eurocom.com/support/drivers/models/tF5/ec/T5_EC113.zip

I really wonder how my EC chip gone bad... It actually deprived me from turning the laptop 2 months ago... but then magically on the very last try the laptop turned on.
Since then it has been on almost 24/7 and i did 4-5 start-ups from the power button and then again ... babam it won't work.

Although i found someone to reprogram my new EC chip i have to ask. Is here someone who is selling a broken 16L13 motherboard for a reasonable price? :)

Good news I got a partial refund of £150 on the laptop on the condition I send the original motherboard back to the seller.
I will order another motherboard from taobao now.
Thanks for the ec link @deathwingbg but I'm sure the motherboard was shorted somewhere.

    Hey guys.

Since the CPU fan on my laptop acts strangely in the last couple of weeks (it takes like 40 minutes for the CPU fan to actually turn on, until that only the GPU fan works and even after that is constantly turn on and off) I decided to replace the fans so that might resolve the issue.

    My question is:
What kind of fan should I order and is there a webshop that ships to Europe?
Could there be any other reason causing this issue? I would love to rule out any other causes before ordering a fan.

Lot of thanks if anyone can help me out

Read this thread, it outlines what you need. I did the mod and it was very simple, but you have to be able to do basic wiring for the fan wires.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/msi-16l13-eurocom-tornado-f5-fan-modifications.810712/

There is another alternative someone mentioned on the forum that is a direct fit, but apparently the fans have issues with the stock fan curve and will either need to be full blast or low when playing games. The model # of those fans are PABD19735BM N322 N395 and you can get them off ebay.

I'm having problems booting up Windows 7 on this machine. For the people that successfully installed the OS, can you share what BIOS config you have.

Its installed on the m.2 drive, it will boot but wont go past the Win7 logo since it BSODs. I tried scannow and fixing the MBR but the problem still exists.

    Any help would be appreciated

Make sure your BIOS is set to Legacy mode and not UEFI. You'll also need to create a special build of Windows 7 that will be compatible with Kaby Lake and later CPUs. Instructions and downloads can be found in this thread.

    Hey guys,

What is some of the go-to memory for the Tornado F5? Kingston HyperX DDR4-2400MHz? Maybe something I can over clock? HyperX DDR4-2666? 2933? 3200? Corsair Vengeance DDR4-3000MHz CMSX32GX4M2A3000C16?

    What's good?

Hey guys, thanks for the help regarding the fans.
I have an other maybe silly question. I'm not an expert with bios management so I figured it might be better asking you:
The BIOS version on my Tornado is E16L1IE9.10F and it was released back in 2016.02.09.
Should I update my BIOS? This seems like a very old version, but I'm not sure how I should handle this.

THanks in advance for your great help

I bought my F5 with 2x8GB 3000 Mhz GSkill modules and both of them were faulty and I replaced them with RMA service. Now I'm using them at 2800 Mhz with 1.2V because I guess they cannot handle 3000 Mhz on 1.2 Volt. ( Maybe 1.25 is enough for them but I did not try because 2800 is enough for me rn.)
I have E16L1IE9.30C and bought 1 year ago. Also Eurocom sent me new BIOS 3 months ago which is E16L1IE9.310
If you contact, they'll send you new BIOS

I'm also one of the lucky ones who had a broken CPU fan... it has just died :(((

The good thing my notebook is water cooled so I can continue using it until I get the new fan. I just won't be able to take it to another location. :///

What are the parts you used, are they available for sale anywhere or custom made? I now need to use the Asus custom fans, new 8700K CPU and this water cooling mod!!

Is there a guide for making this one work in the same laptop?

Yeah....let me tell you why I still want to do it.
1- I work 2 weeks each month traveling from home to field (oil & has) so my laptop is my main now.
2-It is a beast and it is doable, makes this laptop unique.
3-I paid a premium for it, I can do with it what I want, it drops jaws at my workplace!

Oh, ok, so even with the water cooling attachment it would still be practical enough for you to move from home to work then. It'll definitely be a lot less portable than it was before, but I suppose still more portable than a desktop.

I had two main reasons for creating this water cooling solution:

    Reason 1:
    Really high temperatures.
Unfortunately I got a really bad bad bad 7700k chip. I never had the chance to run it at 4.7ghz as mentioned on the seller's website when I purchased it back in March, 2017. And since I live in Brazil, I wasn't able to request for a replacement. I asked for their support a few times regarding that... they tried to help, but it wasn't possible... cpu temperature was reaching 93C @ 4.7ghz and undervolted (this while I was still in US with cool weather). Back in Brazil, I was forced to run it stock @ 4.4ghz (still getting high temps)
Not to mention the GPU temperature.....

    Reason 2:
I wanted only 1 awesome machine to work and play games.
As I work in 2 different cities, it had to be a notebook.
Part of the week I'm traveling with the notebook and the rest I'm home. So when I'm at home and work is done, I turn on the water cooling solution to play games.

It's been a while since I've followed this thread, but I've got a couple of statements/questions about my lappy.

Number one, I've been mostly pleased with the machine since the Prema BIOS update fixed basically all of my issues with it, however I've had two fans die on me. It's put me out of commission for 3-4 weeks each time while I await a new fan to be ordered and then shipped to me. Last summer my GPU fan quit, and it took 4 weeks, to get a replacement. This summer (3 weeks ago) my CPU fan died, and I just got a replacement yesterday.

Each time a fan has died it's done a constant rev up - wind down cycle, every 5-20 seconds. Anyway, I just installed the new CPU fan yesterday, and now my GPU fan is doing the same thing again, and I'm terrified that my GPU fan is about to die again and not have a PC for another month, or so.

Now, I've not had to pay for the replacement fans since I purchased the extended warranty, but no PC for so long is crazy.

#1 - Is there anywhere I can purchase a replacement fan (OEM or something), so I don't have to wait so long to get a warranty replacement (each time I've gotten a replacement, I've been told that they were out of stock and needed to be special ordered)?

#2 - Has anyone else had issues with their fans (CPU or GPU) randomly dying on them, and it taking so long to get them replaced?

#3 - I know I like the laptop, when it works, but it's been unusable for 2 months of the about 1.5 years that I've owned it, and I'm considering selling the system. How much do you guys think I could get selling it with a 7700k, 1080, 16gb RAM, 1080p 120hz, Sam. 960 Pro 512gb, battery extension, modded back cover? At least if I go back to a desktop I can order a part for it and have it fixed in a few days.

I'm not sure what to do at the moment, but I am very frustrated.

    Not yet.....
Shouldn't be an issue as others already tried it with the same setup I have (Prema Bios), just flashing the Bios and using kapton tape on the pins on the CPU (Very delicate process) then installing it to the MOBO, should boot into BIOS without problems.

Where did you buy the shims?

The Solder Paste, I didn't see such a thing before, how does it work and what you used it for on this water cooling project?

How many meters in length for the Flexible Tubes?

How cool is your GPU and CPU under full load while gaming on Ultra settings like in Crysis?

The welding over the GPU heat pipes yes it is going to suck! What thermal grease did you use?

I can't seem to find any motherboards for this model so I'm finally coming to this forum to ask. If anyone has a eurocom tornado f5 motherboard they would be willing to sell to me please let me know.

Where did you buy the shims?
I bought the custom sized copper shims at a store here in Brazil. What you can do is, instead of 2 pieces of 80x25x0.5mm, get 6 pieces of 25x25x0.5mm (3 for each heatsink) and weld them to the copper tube.

The Solder Paste, I didn't see such a thing before, how does it work and what you used it for on this water cooling project?
I got this idea from Mr. Fox video:
I used this paste do weld the copper shims to the copper tube.

How many meters in length for the Flexible Tubes?
It will depend on how far the WC System will be from your notebook. In my case, I used 3 meters of 6mm (external) x 4mm(internal) flexible tube, and 0.50 meter of 5/16 (0.8mm internal) flexible tube.

How cool is your GPU and CPU under full load while gaming on Ultra settings like in Crysis?
I don't have this game. Which version do you have? I'll download it and test it for you.

The welding over the GPU heat pipes yes it is going to suck! What thermal grease did you use?
No, you are not going to weld anything to the notebook heatsink. You will weld only the copper shims to the copper tube.
    1. Over GPU and CPU heatsinks I used narrow pieces of adhesive at the ends and Gelid GC Extreme in the middle.
    2. The one over the GPU, only thermal adhesive tape
    3. The shim that goes between the IHS and the CPU heatsink I applied Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut.
The 1st item above is the one that will really cool down your system. The other 2 will improve just a little bit more.

TDP modded my 1070 in my F5 with a cheap CH341a. The trouble I had was finding suitable software, but once I did, it was very easy.

These are the parts I used and built a clip that flashed the card without a hitch and the results are amazing. I am trying to keep the power draw down since I am only using a 230w PSU. Running BFV closed alpha 2 I am running 1809Mhz core stable without fluctuations and my 7700K at 4.2Ghz. Showing around 40w draw on the CPU and 140w on the GPU with +165mhz and no undervolt. This should keep me under the limit as I am using an external screen.

Total cost out of pocket about $30 and about an hour of my time but the GPU is performing so much better.

The Delta 230W PSU can draw about 280W from the wall before it shuts down. System should be able to pull 250W before the PSU trips.
With the internal screen and a USB mouse, you should have no issues with a 150W TDP limit set on the card. The CPU wouldn't pull 100W unless all 8 threads were loaded at once and you are putting more than 1.25v through an overclocked chip (assuming IA AC DC loadline is set to 1 and NOT auto).

With 150W TDP, you can try +200 on the core and +600 on the memory.
If you are NOT using a Prema Bios, you need to increase the value in EC RAM register E3 by 1, or you will have outlandish battery drain (32=230W, 33=330W; NOS battery boost will drain the battery heavily on the 230W power ID once 180W system load is bypassed).

    *edit*
to avoid hitting power limit at 150W TDP (if you choose to set 150W as your target), use MSI Afterburner and either "Flatten" the voltage graph at the 0.881v point all the way to the right (make sure you have each point starting with 0.881v the exact same clock speed shown on the bar on the far left) and have the curve fully flat starting with 0.881v, or on a regular nonflattened curve, press "L" and apply that and lock the voltage.

Flattening the curve tends to result in more stable overclocked operation than pressing L and locking the "Frequency". Also pressing L to lock will prevent downclocking and the card will always run at 1860 mhz (+200 mhz offset), while flattening the curve will let it downclock to 139 mhz.

This way you will be either at 1848 mhz or 1860 mhz and still maintain 150W or lower TDP without hitting the power limit (unless you are using a render scale >100% or using Supersampling AA).

Use RW Everything to change the master Power ID to stop excessive battery drain. This was also required to change the power ID on 45W BGA systems because if you exceeded 230W, the Embedded Controller would TDP throttle the CPU by force, overriding everything. Even on a 91W CPU its still a good idea to change the power ID to the GTX 1080 ID anyway.

Yeah I was missing some drivers it looks like, thanks.

Anyone here knows the screw size of the 4 gfx card heatsink screws? It needs to be replaced since they're strippped.

Contact MSI's parts department directly and email Tom Ho (search for his email). You are going to have a 0% chance of finding these screws anywhere unless you buy the heatsink. These screws are not standard screws and are shaped very bizarrely. I am not even sure if the CPU screws can be used on the GPU (assuming you removed the c-clips from the screws to allow them to be fully removed); I remember somewhere on some MSI parts page that the screws had different measurements on the CPU and GPU but do not quote me on that.

I sent the measurements to laptopscrews.com and they replied saying they do not have screws like this.

    These are the CPU screws:

He needs gpu screws, as far as I remember they are pretty standard screws...
ps: gpu screws depend on the x-bracket, right? so they should be very standard ones...

    RW EVERYTHING

    Click " EC"

    You will see a grid.

    Go to "E3" like a grid. E and 3.

What value do you see there?
    32, right?

    Change it by 1.

Is this the regular 1080 heatsink or a modded one?

No sadly, the mod worked perfectly fine the lcd never turned on and stayed blank. There is a short circuit in the board which means the internal display never works.

I have to use an external display to use the laptop which straight up defeats the purpose of why I bought it lol.

So I got a refund for the old board and sent it back to the seller. I can't find any cheap alternative boards expect for on taobao but the seller is not willing to sell the product at the price which is very annoying.

That's why I'm asking if anyone has a spare board that could be sold at a fair price otherwise I'll have to scrap the whole laptop and use a bga alternative
