Thing is you have these temps at 40W on CPU and GPU. It should be more like, I don't know, 50C?

    @ Huniken
I meant someone with faulty fans ....
you can not buy new and just replace the bearings
Yes, I have asus fan..... but I am very hot PCH and SSD. (PCH and SSD without a radiator).

Hello all, good to see the thread's continued and that people are still posting.

Unfortunately I come with bad news: the latest Nvidia driver had some kind of error on installation, and Windows 10 has disabled my 1080. As it is two years old, I am not surprised, but this is the first significant issue I've had.

I've tried reinstalling the drivers, hard resets and extended powerdowns, but nothing has fixed the issue, a pulsing, shifting array of flashing green dots.

I'm quietly resigned to the fact that it's likely necessary to replace the GPU, and so my question is (for those knowledgeable souls in here):

Does Eurocom offer any sort of reconditioning service to clean and clear everything back to 'factory fresh' standard?

I'm aware from browsing their website that they have a trade-in and trade-up service, and thus presume that must have some kind of *internal* service. Is there a representative on here that I could contact?

I am sorry, but I do not get this... it is because the newest nvidia driver or it is a general issue?

Wow, you're very quick to write it off!

What troubleshooting steps have you taken so far? Is the display normal before the drivers load (eg. can you access and see the BIOS menu?)? What happens when you connect an external display?

The only differences I found is in name of vendor reported by bios and different splash screen. With MSI version you can run MSI software. L1 and L3 is accordingly for Z170 and Z270 chipset.

PCH runs cool now with max fans, when max fans are off, it is still cool too with an air pad.

For SSD, I have put a thermal pad on it, works ok.

This taken after a gaming session. The driver was updated and didn't use a voltage curve so it got hot. Doesn't matter how much watt it pulled, voltage is the one culprit to increase heat.

It's both, really. The previous faults have all been incredibly minor: it often hangs on shutdown, doesn't start up properly and had an issue with the screen backlight not activating with modern drivers.

The issue now is that the major fault: the green dots and error 43 (cause unknown, likely the driver?) have combined with the previously minor faults in an unfortunate way.

    Hmmm, where to start.

So the splash screen is entirely static, if it appears at all. I have managed to get into the BIOS management screen twice, but most recently it did crash when I was within the BIOS.

The green dots only appear after the Windows loading icon appears, which does suggest (I believe) that it's a driver issue.

Windows doesn't let me connect a secondary screen; it gives me a "reinstall the driver, or try a different GPU" message. I have tried connecting a second screen anyway, but there is no signal.

I have also tried the CMOS reset button, but it does not appear to be effective.

Unfortunately the crash within the BIOS seems to have stopped the laptop loading at all, which is what I feared would happen.

I'm sure that the laptop is fixable, but I am sure that my technical skills are simply not up to the job.

Does anyone know if the Eurocom team in Europe does repairs?

Guys, does it mean we will have 2080 for the F5? :) As I see it is a dedicated gpu, the only question is the heatsink! What do you think?

I'm content with the GTX 1080 for some years to come. Unless there is a mobile GPU that is twice as powerful. With my CPU being 8700K 6 Cores 12 Threads, I consider my EVOC Typhoon build or EVOLUTION to be complete, it is fully loaded and future proofed. Working out it's quirks was a true pleasure with the help of all the members of this community.

I want to thank this community for their help getting me here, a poor lad who was able to build his dream machine the way it is today.

Also thank you @Donald@HIDevolution and @Ted@HIDevolution for brining the EVOC-G-1080 into our hands, best store to buy laptops period.

a very minor upgrade IMO considering the benchmarks we've seen. I expected mind blowing performance for a GPU that is replacing a 3 year old GPU lineup. Very disappointing.

    Guys,
What do you think, a zotac 1080 mxm fits in the F5? Beside the 1070 heatsink would be good? Seems similar layout, however I am not sure... thx

Reaallllyyy late reply, but thanks Kevin@GenTechPC for the inquiry. Received a lemon monitor replacement on ebay, and had to sort that nightmare out. Found another replacement in the UK, but it was a B156HTN05.1 rather than B156HTN05.2 and it fortunately works.

The unfortunate problem is the screen is black (BIOS issue?) after reboots and I have to reinstall the video drivers for it to work. Are there any new BIOS that would fix this, would be grateful for any insights! (BIOS: E16L1IE9.30C; 6700k Skylake CPU)

So the issue is these screens have to be tested by MSI R&D to ensure compatibility, so that being said, it is very likely that the screen you got wasn't approved by MSI so it ran into such issue. You can try to update the BIOS/EC to the latest version and perhaps you had already done so.

@Kevin@GenTechPC thanks for the quick reply! Ah, sounds about right (that fixed the first time I ran into the issue with my stock monitor from Eurocom, had to RMA and get a BIOS from them). Do you believe dsanke's BIOS may help with the issue?

Not sure, but you can ask him.
You can also try Svet at MSI forum since he has in depth knowledge in BIOS reverse engineering (including VBIOS), perhaps he can assist you with this issue. His service usually requires a modest amount of donation so it's up to you (if successful).
It doesn't hurt to ask at all. :)

Forget is... somebody had the same issue (may be Talon, but I am not sure) Svet made 10 bios versions, none of them was good. Forget the 5.1, resell and buy a chimei 120hz screen. Much better and works fine with svet / dsanke's bios. read back you will fine the discussion about it. Or buy 144hz display + cable even better option

@Kevin@GenTechPC @matyee Thanks for the suggestions, I'll give that a shot! I saw there was dsanke bios link from @Jan Prochnica. I'll give the bios an install once it's all sorted (hopefully it's compatible with my skylake cpu)

I saw alot posts about svet vs dsanke bios. Anyone is using svet bios that is supporting futher gen for this little boy? I mean like i9 9900k?

After year of using delided i7 7700k, cpu starts to get hotter. Idk if its LM drying or something. But mby its good time to switch for something modern :)

Its kinda absurd but in my country used i7 7700k costs almost same as i7 9700k. So its worthy to give it a shot.

I had time and made some test with my lil F5 :) I got a silicon lottery 8600k, which can do 5,25Ghz@1,35V. Unlocked TDP 180W 1070 + 5Ghz 8600k runs pretty smoothly under test. Of course I could torture more with furmark and others, however I do not want to fo that, just wanted to see what are the capabilties of this machine. To be honest, still pretty convincing :) btw I use 4,5Ghz + 0,9V@1911mhz gpu, it is under 60C :)

Does anyone know if there is a 120hz GSYNC panel that the Tornado F5 can be upgraded with? I've seen options for a TN 120hz panel without GYSNC but I would be very interested in a gysnc option, preferably IPS if at all possible.

    Thanks!

Unfortunately (as far as I know) there is no 120/144hz option with gsync. The best option atm is the 144hz IPS panel, however gsync will not work :( ps: you also need 40pin cable for the 144hz panel.

Screen tearing really bothers so gsync is a priority for me. Been looking at some of the new 2080 sager/ clevo laptops. Mulling over getting one or waiting for Nvidia’s next gen and ryzen 2.

Thanks for the advice, appreciate it.

@b-mac if you have g-synced GPU than only problem is actually BIOS. If you could convince someone(for example this guy svet) to mod BIOS for you to whitelist panel with 144hz g-sync. Mby it could work? :)

And there is also this whole case with nvidia free g-sync. I read somewhere that peps without g-sync on their laptops - after driver update had that option.

If you are really into it - i think you should check this options.

Do you notice better colors on the 144hz? The colors are pretty washed out on the 120hz panel since its 6-bit.
