Oh, sorry I misunderstood. I thought he was installing 4K.
Some people do like it. I look at it as more of a physical tolerance than preference or opinion. If it is tolerable it is great. Image quality on 4K is compelling due to the high pixel density. Not many people have vision good enough to enjoy viewing text at 4K on a 15- or 17-inch screen with 100% scaling because it is so tiny. One of the primary advantages to higher resolution is having more usable screen real estate. This can be very useful in practical ways, like someone that works a lot in Excel or needs to view multiple documents side-by-side. It's like having multiple monitors in that respect... only better. However, the text has to be large enough to read, and not so small as to induce headache and/or eye strain. That is where I and many others run into problems with it. Sometimes I still find myself struggling to find comfort with my 17-inch 120Hz 1440p screen on the P870DM3 only due to smaller text. If I have to bump the scaling up, that screws up a bunch of stuff in Windows and I lose my benefit of more usable screen real estate. -
I'm playing through BG:SoD. Even in that game the sharpness of the fonts and char portraits are easily visible on my 14, it's even an old engine. Again personal preference but I find HiDPI to be fantastic, especially on the windows desktop, apps and web browsing,, and text heavy games like story driven tactical rpg.

Question, since you did not mention it already. Are you saying it's good and text is comfortable to read at 100% display scaling? That's where every example I have tried to use is miserable, and I won't use more than 100% scaling and be happy about it. I have tried to enjoy 4K at 100% scaling with a Dell XPS 13 QHD+, XPS 15 4K UHD and P870DM-G with 17-inch 4K screen and all were unbearable for me to use at 100% scaling because the text was too small. They were only comfortable to use at 175%-200% scaling and then the usable screen space was essentially the same at 1080p. Plus, Windows menus were sized incorrectly above 100% scaling, with text being truncated on drop-down menus and text being too large to fit inside of any Windows message dialogue boxes.Last edited: Feb 20, 2017

my bad, you were right after i re-applied the overclocks result were identical with new bios being .3 fps faster on max which is nothing.
but i cant seems to get more thn +260 on old bios and cannot pass maximum of 141fps in cinebench 15. where as new ones can go max 151fps.Robbo99999 likes this. -
No, I use 200% scaling. It's an "effective" 1600x900 text wise, except the fonts and UI elements are super sharp. I'll take a screenshot. (it's slightly lossy due to png compression of my tool, but it gets the jist across. It's much better in person looking at the panel.
I've uploaded a few screenshots of a small sample of games that play great at 1800p even on my meager 870M. Hopefully imgur doesn't destroy the quality too badly. I'm hoping 4K is going to be achievable for more than just a smaller percentage of my games with the EVOC. Maybe some of the ones that are just a little below the edge of playable will be smooth. There's quite a few I'm able to eek out 1152p just fine but 1800p is just a little too much. I'm surprised 2560x1440 isn't an option,
https://imgur.com/a/oIGnB
(EDIT: I'm just realizing looking at these on a 1080p panel is going to be useless..
)

if you dont mind less thn 60fps, 4k is fairly achievable even with 1070 on recent high end games. just drop anti-aliasing and few settings and image is super sharp even with DSR, native will be much better with less performance hit i assume. im getting 35-50 fps on 4k watch dogs 2 and thts one of the more demanding game. witcher 4k everything maxed with 8x nvidia hair-works is 30+. so i assume 1080gtx will be much higher.

Yeah, those look screen shots look super nice and crisp. Thanks for sharing them. (Edit: I looked at them on my 1440p Clevo and they do look really good.)
I was wondering how you were doing that at 100% LOL. I've got better than normal eyesight (other than being partially color blind) and 100% scaling at 1440p is on the verge of too small, but crazy small for 4K at 100% unless you've got eyes like an eagle. I bump up the Windows font sizes for 1440p and that helps me stay at 100% scaling. That works out a whole lot better with Windows 7 than it does with Windows 8/10. I really hate how many UI customization features have been eliminated since Windows 7. The way Windows has been dumbed down in this respect is really sad.Last edited: Feb 20, 2017 -
There's also some "Fix the DPI scaling in Windows 10" thread around that I haven't really looked at.
I totally see why someone would want a 120Hz 1080p panel though. Choices are good.

Yeah, that tool works really well. I always use it and recommend it. Windows 10 fonts can be very blurry, especially in Explorer or MMC applications like Device Manager. Windows 7 and 8.X did a lot better job of scaling fonts without making them blurry. That utility helps at all resolutions, not only above 1080. You should check it out. I think you might like it. I know @Phoenix swears by it as well.UsmanKhan and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

Damn you bro!!!!!! What a great f$%king job!
Let me explain to you guys what we're seeing here. This is a 15 inch mini MONSTERBOOK F.S. score within 200ish points of a P870DM3 single GPU bench....think about this in your mind to realize how crazy this is.
Is there any other 15'' laptop out there capable of producing a 20K+ Firestrike score?
Nevertheless, this is an old fashion Rocky battle. Haha. I'm going to eventually lose against the champ but I'm going to keep coming back for more punishment!Last edited: Feb 21, 2017UsmanKhan, raz8020, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -
Let me answer that for you. "Hell No!!!" Hardly any 17-inch... only one, in fact. THIS IS SHAMEFUL!!! The Tornado F5 should be the norm, not the exception.
The competition is castrated BGA feces. This little beast has no match in its class and it out-guns basically everything except for the P870DM3, which is above its class and roughly twice as much money.
Now, as for the other comments, it's not about one of us being a winner. It's about us... collectively... defeating filth and casting that filth in the shadow of the Tornado's excellence. I am on a mission to make BGA filth the scourge of the gaming notebook industry and want everyone that owns one to hang their head in shame for supporting Satan's quest to destroy all we hold dear. We can do this together. We need each other.
Let the bloodshed begin!!! BGA filth must die.

The end on the motherboard, the LCD or both? The LCD has tape holding it in place. Lift up the tape and pull it out of the slot. The motherboard has a hinged retainer that lifts up perpendicular to the slot. Once that retainer is hinged open it slides out of the slot just as it does on the LCD end.neohopper likes this.

Couldn't have said it better. Our problem is that the majority of mainstream reviewers are shinning light on over priced BGA soldered ram Razer's and other "who can be the thinnest" competitors. @Phoenix - that's a valiant effort, bro. Perfect example of why BGA filth must die. Your CPU is perma-crippled and there is no way to fix that. Compare the Physics score. It was a blood bath for your soldered netbook CPU. I could say something like "not bad for what it is" and that would be true, but we have to stop making excuses for BGA and call it out for being the filth that it truly is. It has a place and serves a valid purpose... in $500 Walmart mainstream trashbooks, not in something marketed as a high performance product. But, don't forget, they charge the same price for the castrated filth that isn't good enough to be used in socket-mounted applications as they do for the good stuff.

It appears that you have fallen deeply for the mini Monsterbook. How does it feel to know you have the most powerful 15'' laptop in the world?
On a side note, I haven't attempted 5.2. I have tried 5.1 but that requires a lot more tuning than 5.0ghz. When the delid tool comes in, I'm going to go straight to 5.2 tweaking. I may even pay you to unlock my GPU if you're willing.Papusan, hmscott, UsmanKhan and 1 other person like this. -

I do not have any photos but I have a couple of videos you can watch that should cover this information well enough. Here are the steps.
- Remove lower cover and system battery
- Remove bezel on front of LCD panel
- Remove 2 screws at bottom of LCD panel
- Lower LCD to slide tabs out of brackets at top of lid and lay it face down on the keyboard
- Carefully peel up the tape and disconnect the eDP cable
- Lay screen to the side in a safe place
- Close the lid
- Turn the laptop over and remove the CPU fan and heat sink
- Raise the retainer flap on the eDP cable so it hinges up, perpendicular to the motherboard
- Slide the eDP cable out of the slot
- Remove eDP cable and any/all bundled connections you may have (WiFi antennas and webcam)
- Reverse the procedure to reassemble

I totally love owning each of the two most powerful laptops in the world. If I couldn't have those then I would not want any laptop. Compromise sucks. BGA will never be regarded as acceptable to me. Not because it does not serve a valid purpose, but because it has been so abused and reeks of compromise, put to inappropriate uses; and, it's inferiority shrouded in lies and deception by dishonest people that think it is OK to take advantage of the gullible. They expect us to embrace the ideal of this filth as a substitute with no better option available. I don't think so. If they're doing that in parts, they can leave my part out... and bite me.
-
Well....Your over all score went down, but your gpu score went up as it should have. Although it's at least 700 points lower. And it's also proving to be a fact that BGA machines will produce higher gpu scores......So......Looks like you need to get to it and figure out why yours is underperforming. You will never win overall, but you should be able to put up a better gpu fight.

I hate using TS, one of the most complicated software I've seen in history. Got sick of the icon not appearing somtimes in the taskbar then having to reset my taskbar icon layout / cache
also, it says ThrottleStop, well it never stops throttling in any system I've seen, all it does it provides another interface to undervolt and change some settings which are already available in XTU -
Well, then you'll probably never achieve the best your machine can achieve. There's nothing complicated about ThrottleStop. Very simple and easy to use. But, it won't do anything to make Windows 10 less of a piece of garbage. Use the notification area cleaning tool and it should take care of that issue.

I did not go BGA because I wanted to bro. I had to due to Clevo's crappy keyboard -
I can respect that actually. ****ty track pads and built in audio I can work around on most notebooks, but I'm with you on keyboards, turned me off a lot of products in the past. I love MSI's steel series keyboards however, so it's nice to see the F5 has well.. Pretty much the unofficial version of it.hmscott, UsmanKhan and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

Like johnksss mentioned, you are within striking distance. I'm sure you can get a 25k+ graphics score. I'm capped at 24k due to the TDP limit.
I'm rooting for you bro and I'm sure you will be back within the LGA camp when the Tornado F7 arrives. Then again, Clevo will have its answer to it as well.Papusan, hmscott, UsmanKhan and 1 other person like this. -
But, not everyone thinks it's a crappy keyboard. I actually like it and don't have a problem with it. But, I totally respect your having a different opinion and making a personal decision. Not only because we are friends, but also because that's your prerogative even if we were not friends. You placed a higher priority on the keyboard than the rest of the system. The outcome of going to a BGA CPU was predictable and it would be unrealistic to expect anything better than what you have now. But, because we are good friends and I want you to be super happy, I hope the keyboard is enough to keep you satisfied with the expensive BGA machine you have now. (I'm serious... really do hope you are happy, not being sarcastic.)

@Phoenix - what does your PCMark 8 score look like? Humble Bundle has an option now where you can get it and VRMark and 3DMark Advanced Editions for $12 now. If you already have 3DMark (as I know you do) you can gift the key to someone that doesn't have it. It's worth the $12 for PCMark 8 alone.

I like the appearance of the SteelSeries keyboard better. It looks excellent. But, I'm not sold on the functionality of it yet. It's not bad, but I like the tactile feel of the Clevo keyboard more. I am not particularly fond of the odd key placement and the short stroke of the chiclet keys. I have more keystroke errors/missed keys on the SteelSeries keyboard, maybe because I have not fully adjusted to it yet. I use both laptop keyboards equally, as well as my Corsair K95 and my Logitech K270. I use all of them equally throughout the day and cannot really say that I hate any of them. I think they are all fine and good. It's been allmost 6 week now and still locked @ 4.4k GHZ with the bios, this is just completely ridiculus.
While you have a 20,300 score wich is extremly close to the best Firestrike score on desktop for 7700k / GTX 1080 of 20,911
This is the maximum score i can go to with my 7700k and GTX 1070 with 265/575 Overclock. (Ranked number 1 for GTX 1070 / 7700k)
I'm still far away from the best Firestrike score on desktop for a 7700k / GTX 1070.
