On side note, I have a few left that are NOT locked, and I also have the 780W PSU. The build quality is amazing on this PSU! I love it. Stays cool, looks good, and is a solid piece of craftsmanship.hmscott, Papusan and birdyhands like this. -

I read a review at another top tech website ... similar results.
AMD was throwing dust in our faces showing us Crossfire setup and better Ryzen results.
It looks like until they optimize the games to use more than 4 cores, 7700K will remain the best gaming option.Robbo99999 and UsmanKhan like this. -

I don't trust Tom's Hardware. They gimp all thier reviews, and have always been biased.
For instance, they are not even reporting what these CPU's actually clock at easily, in some cases the older AMD CPU they downclocked it to match the rated speed of the others.
It doesn't work like that, otherwise I would go fetch my 4.3Ghz HT enabled P4 CPU and compare that to Rysen's lower end CPU and underclock the P4 to 3.0Ghz and see how it fares.
for instance : if you are going to compare 6700K or 7700K, then put them at 5.0Ghz and get the Rysen CPU at whatever speed works for it. It might be further in INTEL's favor, but it would be a better real world test of how it's going to be used IMO.
But to bring in a few years old CPU from AMD as well, just to place it at the bottom, and also underclock it, is just stupid and shows they are being biased. Things are not identical when they are at the same rated Mhz, it's like comparing how smart people are based on thier height.syscrusher and birdyhands like this. -

Eurocom: 'We are working on next generation Tornado F5 and F7 models so everything is on the table including AMD Ryzen. We have a lot of expertise in AMD technologies - we were the first in the history of laptops to use socket-based AMD CPUs and AMD GPUs. So we may do it again.'
The R7 1700 is only 65 watts and the two above that are 95 watts. -

I think ryzen is a much better option than intel right now, especially for future proofing. Intel is stuck at their lame 4 cores while ryzen has 8 which may not have the highest clock speeds but you can definitely do more at the same time. Price is also pretty much way better too. Intel needs innovate and try like amd. Look at how they made an 8 core CPU with only 65 watts of power needed. My 6700k needs about 90 and that's pretty sad. Rather the extra cores, better performance in many apps at a time, and lower heat output than an overpriced intel. :/

About the Bios on my order from HIDevolution, Ted replied:
"Huniken , we are working with Prema to get his special treatment on a fully customizable BIOS. This will allow for overclocking of the CPU and RAM, among other features. I don’t have an ETA of when it will be ready, but when it is we will reach out to you to remotely flash your system.
Thank you,

Delid Result so far: 5.0 is reached at 75C with normal ambient temps (82C before delid). I may have to repaste my GPU yet again, the temps are slightly higher than before. I pasted with ICD. I'm going to try my other pastes.
My new Firestrike score: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/11866693

Let me go into a little more detail on my delid process. I went with the HIDevolution method of a delid, LM between the die and IHS, ICD between the IHS and heatsink until I can make sure my heatsink has good contact with pressure paper. I am going to try some copper shims/LM soon as well. My goal is 5.0 at the high 60'sC with my "garage" cooler and then I will work on 5.1.

Hey guys so I'm having an odd problem. I have 4x8GB of RAM installed for a total of 32GB. BIOS, CPU-Z, and HWINFO all confirm that. However windows does not. According to System and Task Manager I only have 16GB installed. I'm on Windows 10 Pro, with a 7700k, reinstalled windows twice with different images as well, checked that Max Memory in System Config isn't set, updated all drivers. Not really sure what else to do. Any thoughts?

Yeah I do not understand it either. I also asked why the same bios was UNLOCKED before and is now LOCKED.
The only response when I asked about the bios was "go see Mr.Fox" .
@Mr. Fox Maybe you can weigh in, why would I be referred to you for this issue ?

That's probably my best until I add LM on top of the IHS. I'm going to experiment with different pastes for the GPU as well. I will reach 20K!!! -
and just do bench/repasting lol.
i have been doing unity 14-18hours/day and this laptop is wonderful, my up time on the laptop is over 4 d : 11h (continous no sleep, some idle hours tho) and yet have to experience crash even tho i do baking in unity quit often. for me thts the most time before my other machines crashed lol.syscrusher, neohopper and Rage Set like this. -

You really dont understand how processors work do you. Right now, 99% of games dont use more than 4 cores and lots of people are playing more games than doing other "stuff". Those 65 watts of power is thermal rating not how much power the processor uses. Sometimes thermal rating doesnt mean anything, look at the 7700(non K), its rated at 65w, the K version is 91w. If you clock both at 4.0gz, it will use the same amount of wattage. The K version is higher because is overclocks.
If you're so sad about that 6700k, give it to me and get a Zen processor. -

I agree however with the sentiment that the 6700K is best inclass CPU for the price ATM.Papusan likes this. -

TDP
"Thermal Design Power (TDP) represents the average power, in watts, the processor dissipates when operating at Base Frequency with all cores active under an Intel-defined, high-complexity workload"
Edit: And see also why gamers now want more cores than 4
