OKay for people who want to flash the bios again.
Caution, this is only at your own risk BTW.

if anyone wants an earlier bios I have that too, but that was the Beta 309 one that was unlocked.
(If I am wrong let me know)
**If this process does not work, someone let me know. Not sure if you can downgrade or flash the same bios or not.**
Also : this bios might not be as flashy as the latest one if, it might be missing the colourful logo, or it's smaller, I forget.

For anyone who was wondering I did a successful re flash with this BIOS, kinda had me on my toes after as the panel didn't turn on for a minute but all is well. Still no change in my half ram problem unfortunately, and 7700k still locked at 4.4 with this one for me.

So confusing. So many small little things to look out for. I wonder if it's just a temporary thing, to be fixed with a bios update or if there is something larger at work here, i.e motherboard, windows 10, or the RAM itself.
Do you have another way of testing the RAM or Isolating the issue ?
Does anyone else have this issue ? -

Hey man, we're all friends here. The mods will come down on you if you continue talking to people like that, it was a bit disrespectful, no offence, honestly (I'm not trying to pick a fight or take sides). Just edit what you said, and I'm sure you will be fine. We all care a great deal about our computers and it can be a touchy subject for us, enough to respond emotionally or defensive, so no worries, we all know the deal here. Yeah just wanted to say this before this thread derails. The mods could easily just close or lock the thread and issue a warning, worse happens on other forums. I do not want that so I thought to stick my nose in here and try and get in before the lockdown...syscrusher likes this. -
Unfortunately I don't have another way of testing, unless I remove the 2 stick from the top of the motherboard and test one at a time. Because I know they work as I've removed the 2 bottom ones and system still showed 16gb

is this a new Bios? or the one from like a month ago?
Cause bios 309 was officially released like a month ago by Eurocom -

Oh ok, than it is fully locked @ 4.4 and version prior that was locked as well.
-
woodzstack Alezka Computers , Official Clevo reseller.
Well, now which versions did I have that had NVMe support and unlocked bioses and support for 7700K ? -
I dunno, probably a custom version by Eurocom for you to test with?
If you can find it that would be great cause i've had my 7700k for a little over 2 months now and it's still locked and i've tried 3 different bios.
P.S : I wrote you on discord -
*Supposedly* Eurocom is working an a partially unlocked BIOS, but they've been pretty radio-silent about it.

They've promised this $hit since Christmas. I think I wont go Eurocom anytime in the future.

Well, OK. What's the alternative? Let's not be too silly. Options are limited. Why not just get Svet's BIOS and stop waiting? Waiting always sucks. Sometime (actually most of the time) you have to take matters into your own hands if you want to get things done.
They're good. I hope you enjoyed them. My favorite fish tacos is Mahi Mahi.Last edited: Mar 4, 2017 -

guys, do you know when and if the F5 will ever have the ryzen cpu option?
-
Honestly... Potentially never. We don't even know if Clevo or MSI will use Ryzen in notebooks at all, and if they use Ryzen mobile BGA garbage it won't be worth a damn. Don't get your hopes up.
And, from everything I have seen so far, Ryzen is very nice performance at stock for desktop, but it seems to suck if you like to overclock. Seems that it doesn't overclock very well at all, which renders it completely worthless to me. I have no use for any CPU or GPU that doesn't overclock really well. To me that is of no value.Last edited: Mar 4, 2017 -

According to Lisa Su, mobile Ryzen will make an appearance 2H 2017, so I guess we'll find out then.boozzer likes this.

I may be a bit late to the party!? Getting a Cyberpower Fangbook 4 Xtreme next week which I guess is a MSI 16L13 barebones. Please don't tell me these have nanny state BIOS implementation too?
-
but the F5 uses desktop cpus? the 1700 is only 65watt. while the 7700k we already get in the F5 is 90watt. mobile shouldn't matter in this case? for the F5?
I personally don't care about overclocking at all. R7 1700 at stock would be all I need.hmscott likes this. -
Well gentlemen, I have some developments, I had Svet whip me up an unlocked bios. Now I have all 32gb of ram available, unlocked cpu multipliers on the 7700k, and a butt ton of extra bios options to tinker with. So in light of this I suggest you fellas with over 16gb of ram check your System and Task Manager (NOT HWINFO OR CPU-Z) to see what's actually available, especially if you are using 4 sticks. Because unless I'm an isolated incident.. it would appear that the latest Eurocom bios not only locks the 7700k at 4.4 GHz but also does something with limiting the ram. Once again though, this may be isolated to me so don't quote me on just that. So yeah, definitely happy with Svet's bios, gonna put it through it's passes over the next couple of days
-
I had Svet unlock my Skylake BIOS, great guy. I am a bit peeved however that I might have do another unlock for the Kabylake BIOS. Why this Z170 board is locked, I have no idea. It seems very misleading to customers.
-
The BIOS is from MSI, not Eurocom. The stock BIOS is crippled because MSI crippled it, not Eurocom. Eurocom is actually working on fixing that, so they deserve credit for caring. It's just not ready for distribution yet and I don't have an ETA that I can pass along. Svet and Prema are both able to set the machine free to be all it can be. All stock laptop BIOSes suck. That's par for the course. Clevo BIOS sucks as well. All laptops, regardless of whether they have BGA or sockets, are pretty much garbage with stock BIOS. It was that way back in the day when Alienware still made awesome laptops as well. Stock BIOS being trash is normal for laptops, LOL.
So, everyone that wants it to have full functionality and not have wait for Eurocom's official BIOS mod to be released needs to talk to Svet for now. He is a good guy. Be sure to pay him for his time.
Yes it does. See above.
Well, overclocking means everything to me when it comes to computers. Without it, I lose any and all interest in computers other than their basic utility, like a hammer or a screwdriver... useful... indispensable if you need to drive nails or screws... but, nothing to be overly excited about. I think the people that are wanting the BIOS unlocked would most likely agree it's important to them as well.Last edited: Mar 5, 2017Aroc, neohopper, woodzstack and 1 other person like this. -

This might be it, I have my own bios from SVET when I tested the F5 initially, and then I of course upgraded the bios and never went back, but I had kept the unlock and the ability to see all the dimms or RAM and use them. It like took the best of both worlds. This can be the only thing I can think of that happened.
While I promised SVET I wouldn't distribute his bios, now I have to go ask him if he minds I use it and upgrade from it, lol.
On a side note, I have that actual barebones with that specific bios for sale if anyone wants an F5 for cheap. The bios has a logo with my Picture on it sort of. Instead of Eurocom's, for instance. It was just my little toy to test things, you know, instead of experimenting on a customers laptop for instance.
If anyone knows anyone who would want it, let me know, it's like 4 months old, but otherwise basically new.
On a side note I have a 780W PSU, which looks and feels great, what a solid piece of work. I DID actually see small improvement in bench scores from the 230W slimline PSU, but I didn't have tangible evidence it made much of a difference yet when using the 330W "fatboy" PSU (Yes I'm knicking those the "Fatboi's" now. Maybe even in 3 years have an argument on these forums over where I got the name from, who knows...

But some are worse... Most of OEM's models have completely locked down Firmware. And Bios is secure locked!! Forget maximizing the potential of your PSU, which is more than good enough to deliver enough power.
The new OEM laptop industry... Profits on Battery. BGA machines consume battery even with use of proper PSU. OEM's want to kill your battery, preferably yesterday. More money in the bank and Yooo are screwed once again

1-What is the full term of "BGA"?
2-How do I contact Svet for my EVOC Bios if Prema didn't have anything ready by now? -
Correct called BGABOOK if Cpu, Gpu or both soldered on MB. As well if the laptop have soldered ram chips. In fact this is also the normal on some JokeBooks. Some solder half the ram and offer that you can upgrade the rest with ram stick, other solder the whole ram package on MB. See the mess in the picture below.

wait - I got another one, wait until they solder on NVMe SSD drives ! I'm surprised they don't already. They were never able to do this before now with harddrives, because they were always mechanical or not dense enough IC/NAND wise..
shouldn't we just start investing our money into DELL/Alienware gaming Cell phones or something ?Aroc, syscrusher and Papusan like this. -
My best bet is soldered storage. Like the solution with half the ram welded on MB. Aka You can still upgrade.
-
They will of course offer yooo backup solution. Maybe similar their Premium support. And you can extend the backup warranty as well. Remember do it while you still have current warranty. Otherwise you risk loosing your backup like the support!!syscrusher likes this.

You know, the soldered NVMe drive is not a bad idea. Add another drive and make it RAID 0 or RAID 1 etc.. but anything less then Samsung Pro will die within 2-3 years of being the O/S drive if you run your games and backups on it too. -
Make it 2x 2TB soldered 960 Pro. And expect Dell price on the ssd's. The JokeBook with whole soldered package will cost same as a nice car
I really hope you can pay for the max extended warranty. Or don't forget to extend current warranty.
Dell's support / warranty is made in such a way that you are not allowed to extend after the current Premium warranty-support have expired. Either pay in advance or make a deal where you automatically extends within the deadline. And for gods name remember backup!!

Actually they do let you extend it, they first make sure the system is good, and you do not have any issues, you also have a fee if it's not done within a certain time frame. "recertification"Papusan likes this. -

Could anyone please point me in the right direction for purchasing a replacement base cover for the 16L13?

Apple already does. There's use cases for all this, especially if you are a road warrior and want the slimmest possible compute experience. (I carry my rMBP with me back and forth on the subway every day and to the rare meetup or conference, I would never carry something bigger when I can code all day on something that's 3lb) Most people that buy laptops don't need half to a quarter of the power avaialble in them. Then you have the people that just game for which BGA CPU's and a upper mid-range to high-end GPU is all that's really needed (raises hand for my "home" laptop). And then you have the people that will not stop at nothing to get an extra 50 points in 3dmark. That's the "JOKEBOOK" term users.
Also, I ordered this unit last week.

Apple already does, in the 2016 Macbook "Pro" {ahem...}. If your motherboard dies (as mine did, twice, on my 2013 model), you can no longer swap the mobo and move your SSD. Now you pay for a new mobo, made more expensive by the planar SSD, and you get to restore up to 2 TB of data from backups, a process taking hours even on a good day.
Although I love socketed CPU, hence my decision to order one of these 16L13s, I admit I am not as adamant about that as others. But when it comes to soldered SSD on anything but a tablet or phone, I am as adamant about that as @Mr. Fox is about "BGA filth". Soldered SSD on my laptop is absolutely unacceptable. Oooooh, the joy of downloading 2TB from a cloud backup, especially if it happens while I'm traveling on business and have to use a hotel's crappy wifi!
BTW, Apple will sell you up to 3 years of warranty, and they will not extend that even if you are willing to pay. They want you to buy a new machine.
