Agreed in that specific case. If your need is for an ultrabook, then you're probably not putting huge amounts of data on the SSD. My beef with Apple is that they did it on their top-of-the-line machines that are supposedly aimed at content creators.

TBH, when I ordered my 16L13 from HIDevolution, I wondered if I was pushing too far toward the "enthusiast" end and away from the "road warrior" end. But seeing what others on this forum have been able to do with this machine, I am gladder every day that I went this route. I'm patiently awaiting delivery of my machine, but I gotta admit I'm drooling with anticipation. :)

Soldering any major component that could normally be serviced or upgraded by an end user with ordinary tools and a desire to do so is totally unacceptable. Seems Apple has not cared for a long time about doing the right thing for anyone but Apple. They have gotten away with this for so long that other OEMs have noticed their self-serving approach to business and are following in their footsteps. The stupid masses don't pay attention, don't know any better, and don't seem to care until that approach creates a road block or financial burden or other undesirable impediment for them. By then it is too late and they have no legitimate basis for complaint since their ignorance at the time of purchase facilitated and funded that approach. Every purchase made by such an ignoramus condones more of the same.

As I have said several times... Some OEM's are like bell sheep pushing for unwanted trash. I will not mention all names. But there is a reason why Dellienware not get an order from me anymore. I'm not joking when I say that soldered RAM and storage will be the next big even in big 17 inches laptop chassis!! The hunger for thinner, slimmer and lighter Apple similar laptops is too tempting to resist. The future for high performance laptops isn't very bright. Enjoy it while you can. Aka don't buy Soldered filth!!

I want the unlocked bios for other benefits, it isn't just overclocking.

    Should I get a i7 7700k or a xeon e3 1280 v5/1535m v5/1575m v5? Are the xeons or i7 better? I use multi-threaded applications.

Totally agree... there are lots of reasons to have an unlocked BIOS besides overclocking CPU and RAM. At the core, the value is being able to own what you pay for and not have some retarded OEM limiting how you can use your property. In addition to the freedom to run your CPU and RAM however you see fit, having control over SATA and PCIe ports, ACPI, ASPM, BCLK, USB, Thunderbolt, etc. and whether you feel like using UEFI with or without CSM, Legacy BIOS, being able to override default values on whatever you feel like overriding... priceless. That they deprive us of these things demonstrates how contemptible and dishonorable their intentions are.

No. Xeon 1151 quad core is a waste of money. Not only are those Xeon models less powerful and locked down, they are far more expensive. You have absolutely nothing to gain by using one. Now, if they were available in this socket/chipset with 6C/12T or 8C/16T with unlocked multipliers, they would be worth every penny.

Playing devil's advocate (in humor mode), I will say I have done tech support for people for whom a power switch and spacebar that actually function are *too much* freedom for them to handle responsibly. :p There are times you want to just say, "The Internet is full. Please go away."

Yes, I know what you mean. It's sad. And, the rest of us should not be expected to do without anything or make any sacrifices for the lowest common denominators.

while i have use macbooks and they were great(now they arent highend anymore) i dont see why someone will spend 4k$ when they can get twice the power for half the price. i never get when ppl tell me how one need < 2lbs laptop to carry around. i carry my laptop daily have to walk for 1+km for the bus then to office and same when coming home, never had a probelm. 3lbs is nothing unless westerns are used to not carry anything more than 2lb ;D.

The 2 week wait for mine was killer, eventhough I was using my 980M laptop, it wasn't the "Monsterbook" as @Mr. Fox has named it :)

I completely agree. I remember when servicing an HP years ago and the power plug adapter was on a 2 or 3 pin connector coming off the mobo, no soldering required, that was awesome and I wish all manufacturers did this due to the stress some people put on the power cord destroying the port on the laptop.

One thing I like about apple is the ease of servicing their phones(full disclaimer I hate apple and any phones that begin with an I). My sister in law breaks her Iphones all the time. And it is so easy to fix a broken screen since you can get it as a 1 piece assembly.. But then they go and start putting encryption in their ribbon cables (touch ID sensor) ..Making something easy, difficult..

Below is a partial list of reasons why BIOS mods are essential for everyone, whether they overclock or not. Brother @Phoenix went to the trouble of putting the bullet points together originally, so he gets credit for it. Otherwise, it is very fitting here. This goodness is afforded to all that use @Prema or Svet system BIOS and highlights the extent to which notebook ODMs suck where their firmware is concerned. Anything less than this as core functionality should be treated as a criminal act.
    • Restores user ability to overclock or underclock the CPU to meet their individual needs and preferences
    • Restores user control over CPU power settings (voltage, watts, amps) for optimal performance and/or thermal efficiency
    • Restores ability to control non-turbo CPU core ratio
    • Restores ability to control CPU c-states and p-states
    • Restores ability to control BCLK (northbridge) and FCLK (System Agent) frequency
    • Restores ability to control Intel Speed Shift Technology functionality
    • Restores ability to control Intel Software Guard Extensions (SGX) functionality
    • Restores ability to control RSR, Watchdog Timer, ASPM, ACPI sleep and hibernation functionality
    • Restores ability to control RAM timings, clock speeds and enables the utilization of XMP profiles
    • Restores ability to control selection of Legacy, UEFI and CSM to install whatever operating system is desired
    • Restores ability to control CPU-based DEP, AES (encryption) and Virtualization
    • Restores ability to control GPU scaling, PCIe speed and power management features
    • Restores control over Thunderbolt and USB 3.1 configuration
    • Restores control over SATA port configuration and Intel LPM. Having the ability to disable drive ports allows exclusive control over what drive receives the BCD/boot sector, system and recovery partitions during Windows Setup and eliminates the need to physically remove non-OS drives when installing a new OS.
We should all be very thankful for the small remnant of companies ( Prema Mod Partners) that actually care enough to support firmware mods so they can give us more than the dishonest clowns that manufacture notebooks.

And the list could go on, great job putting together these key features. While my knowledge is limited in quite a few of the options I now have available, I am defiantly grateful to have them. I know there are lots of over clocking tutorials available on the web, but it'd be nice to see someone put together a tutorial of the bios features most beneficial to the F5 and how to probably use them, as pulling the CMOS battery for a reset in worst case isn't so easy on this machine.

Will the 230W adapter be enough to run the 7700k at turbo-boost 4.5ghz, gtx 970m, 1080p display, 32 GB ram and a 960 pro as well as peripherals? No overclocking apart from the turbo-boosted 7700k.

I think you should consider 330W instead of 230W so you have extra power for future expansion.

    You're alive!

    jk :p. It's been a while.

Theoretically, yes. At worst, you would still draw <200W. However, IMO it's not really worth down-grading from the 1070 to the 970M.

Hi, do you mean that you will bring in a smaller/slimmer version of the 780w adapter?

I know that the 330w adapter is like a brick, having a smaller/slimmer version but with the same or more power output would be just what I need to be on the move from dorm to office. 780w adapter is great, but a portable 330w adapter that is not heavy like a brick would be lovely!

It is DIY kit so it is really up to you to make it in the desired shape. I have 3 thermal pipes and 2 pipes like the ones shown ...
I have played a lot and made a custom loop for my E6430, but for the Tornado i don't see it benefiting too much. It has quite adequate cooling at least for the 1070 (have not heard of 1080 heating issues as well). The only downside is fans running at high speed.
Anyway if you have the time and want to play with it. Go ahead ... there is plenty of room for the pipes in the chassis. And don't forget to share pics here ;)
Last time my 1070 hit 47C on Firestrike...

    EUROCOM ABOUT UNLOCKED BIOS

I hate to say it but this is so bad, they wan't me to send my laptop away for like ... 4 days? and pay 30$ in shipping for a BIOS we should ge getting right away.
Might as well just pay Svet the 20$ and get the Bios from him. Will be instant and i won't loose my laptop.

To be honnest my experience with Eurocom after receiving my Laptop have been terrible.
500$ for the 120hz screen update, now i gotta pay shipping + loose my laptop for like a week to get the bios update.

"Proven to be impossible" is a strong choice of words for a BIOS update. Yes I understand that people could screw up and brick their notebook then complain to Eurocom after, but unless there is something i'm missing, it seems that a simple disclaimer before flashing to covering their ass would be all thats needed and leave it up to the individual. Just my opinion however, if there is some sort of technician specific tool required to flash the bios (unlikely) , then my mistake.

I can do your bios for you too, since you are already one of my customers. I do not have it mind you, but I will get it.

but wow, the list of whats added is exactly what we need. like FINALLY... this is really exciting news.

TBH, I don;t see how other laptops can compete with this laptop if it has full control. Sure you could pay 3-4 times as much for almost double the graphics capability, and not see a damn difference on screen, because of G--Sync anyways.

I linked before how to flash this system, unless I am mistaken, it is the same process, however - I do know for a fact this is some sort of new bios architecture so who knows what special things are done to it. I say we should be thankful at all that Eurocom even has the bios for distribution. It's not a stock factory bios from MSI, so AMAZING WORK @Eurocom Support

I will completely agree with your anger over the Bios, essentially charging for a Bios update, but I don't know how you can get angry at them for the 120hz panel costs. That is their cost, take it or leave it. Most of us went out and purchased the panel ourselves for less than a quarter of their price.

Basically for the fact that they told me before the upgrade price would be in the 200$ mark and out of a sudden it jumped to 500$ once they got the panel.
The panel is like 100=150$ each so charging 400$ to get it installed seem's a little bit excessive.

I just had a conversation with the man who would know anything about a new bios for this system, from Eurocom, and they deny any new bios or modification.

So, where ever, whomever says they have one is misinformed, so there is no new bios out yet for this system. It's the same old bios, maybe some hidden menu's unlocked at best, but nothing ground breaking, unless I'm being lied to for some reason or misunderstand.

IDK, but sounds like a sales man or something. I spoke to thier head technician.
Maybe they have a 25% off snake oil for students too ?

Whats that chat from ? You browse these forums on a mobile device or some sort of 3rd party chat program ? (Just curious, looks like something I might be interested in)

Maybe we can just ask for clarification.

@Eurocom Support Question : Is there a new unlocked bios as suggested ?

Yes, unfortunately the shipping time/fees is not worth it for me, even if they aren't technically charging for the BIOS. If they are using the same method as Svet, I can understand why they would not trust the average user to perform the table editing.

Then I think I know what this is about. . I suspect PREMA and SVET (But I assume Prema more then SVET) have unlocked the bios to some degree, and forced some sort of agreement, where whomever they shared it with is not allowed to speak.
I offered before to work with Prema or Svet but they ignore me, so no idea if what I think is true is true or not, and I will likely have no confirmation of this. They both were said to have been working on this.

I think someone worked on the bios, made sure whomever they shared it with is not allowed to share it, but can install it on new laptops of RMA's.
If they could comment on it, I am sure they would, because they have no problem giving credit where it is due, they do so with Mr.Fox all the time for his brilliant contributions, as an example, and I've seen them do so with others.

I do not know or can not comment on what I suspect the motivations behind not revealing more details about this are, or not sharing this publicly or openly, any OEM/ODM would have my confidence that if they were the owners of this, they would openly share it, because it would be good for business, for everyone.
Mainly I suspect a private interest would be the only culprits to withhold this from anyone, anyones guess is as good as mine, honestly.

Feel free to dig deeper and ask people for more details, I've seen this sort of behaviour before, with the P870DM-G2 or such, and unlocked bioses for it.
Allegedly someone got a hold of a bios and shared it openly and the creator was upset to not make as much profit from it and refused to help anyone after.

I don't think that is it. I believe , personally they would let you do it if they could legally.

Like maybe they agreed not to share someone else's work.

Our 780W AC adapter is the smallest possible so we don't have plans of making smaller for sometime.

Eurocom has offered this unlocked bios for free with any of my sales this week for the F5. If anyone is interested in getting it first hand and not paying an extra steep premium on it, now is the chance. The offer ends friday.
Send me convo's if you want privacy and want help with an order.

Yup. it didn't always happen, so it was not caught instantly, not every 4 sodimm sets / combinations had the issue. You might be right about it being an XMP issue.

Perfect example of how much an active owners community can help a product guys. We have @Mr. Fox and few fellas working hard at over clocking and thermal experiments, as well as various users bringing up bugs, hardware info, and software advice. Keep it up fellas

wait, so unlocked bios wont be available to existing owner? :(. that's too bad i was told they would be available as a download once they finish it. its impossible for me to send them my laptop as i live in pakistan now. i would love if they could do it through a team viewer session tho.
