eurocom upgrade page for f5 tornado lists it for 291$. why will they ask more thn that? also isnt this same panel for ~98$ on amazon and something 120$ on ebay?
-
291$ + price of the 15'6 60hz screen on your laptop. So 500$ total.
And yes it's the same screen.UsmanKhan likes this. -

Last night I installed an AUO B156HAN01.2 panel into my primary Tornado F5. Its an older AHVA display that was used in the Clevo P650SE and a few other models. It has better gamut than the LG FHD GSync (63% NTSC, 68% aRGB, 94% sRGB), and when at 30% brightness the screen uses much less battery power than the LG.
Does anybody happen to know of a good company in the US to purchase a specific model screen from? I would also like to try the Samsung LTN156HL02-301 but am weary about most the usual places saying "Compatible model" in their description.UsmanKhan and birdyhands like this. -

that is the panel from the HP ZBook 15. Maybe that will help in your search as HP ZBook is much more popular brand
ebay is your best bet -
Haha I was just joking. I will get it from Svet at some point.
-
What is the socket/slot type for the GPU in this laptop (16L/13)? Is it MXM or another type?
-
Its's MXM 3.0, check out the product page at Eurocom for all the system info

Thanks.

Ooooh, Cyberpower UK you are tops....

Yep. Ended up ordering a Samsung LTN156HL06-C01. Its a glossy FHD PLS panel with 800:1 contrast ratio, 300 nits brightness, and 8-bit color. It sounds like this panel was used in the 2014 ATIV Book 9 and got pretty good reviews. Hopefully it doesn't use PWM. If it works ok I think Eurocom ought to buy a few of them and offer it as a photo editing display upgrade. -
Which BIOS should I get? The eurocom one vs Prema vs Svet?
-
You can't get prema.
Svet charge 20 Euro
Eurocom charge nothing for current owner but you gotta ship it to them.Aroc likes this. -
@Eurocom Support just wondering why does the Tornado need to be shipped out to flash the Bios. Kevin from Eurocom Tech flashed my X9 E2. Is there a lot more to it? Thanks again Kevin @EurocomTechspert

I can't tell what's missing? It looks the same as mine.

Did they leave two screws out of your heatsink too?

Oh, missing screws
No, I have the screws. I thought it as something more substantial. But that's a rookie mistake for sure. -
Talking of rookie, you should have seen the paste job and thermal pad attempt!!!!

So, if you want to purchase the F5 from Eurocom now, there is an option to get the unlocked BIOS..... for $145
. Now, I don't want to jump to conclusions, maybe it has all sorts of bells and whistles. What is in this BIOS to justify this price? Keep in mind Svet charges 5X less... Does it unlock the vBIOS too? Thoughts
@Mr. Fox ?
UsmanKhan and birdyhands like this. -
No, it has nothing to do with vBIOS. @Eurocom Support should answer that question so the reasons are clear about why they charge extra for it. They charge extra for Clevo unlocked BIOS as well, so their rationale is probably the same for this model.
-
This makes me wonder. If they are really charging extra for a completely unlocked BIOS and if you decline the charge, you're are actually locked from doing any kind of overclocking, why even offer an UNLOCKED processor like the 7700K for this machine?! Even Clevo offers at LEAST the ability to OC your processor now.
With a potential reseller offering a 15' laptop with a delidded 7700K and GTX 1080 and expanded BIOS OC'ing abilities that's NOT HIDevolution, I think Eurocom better be careful, otherwise, some people that are interested in this machine might go to them...UsmanKhan, Huniken, keftih and 1 other person like this. -
I went to HIDevolution to get my EVOC laptop. Thanks to @Ted@HIDevolution for his wonderful support & prompt responses.
I'm just enjoying my time with the countdown to get my laptop shipped to me sometime this month.syscrusher, UsmanKhan, Spartan@HIDevolution and 1 other person like this. -
I thought they said they wouldnt charge us for a unlocked bios and now they are charging a insane amount of money $145 for some bios that should have come with this laptop from the beginning.
What I dont get is that even if the 7700k is running at 4.4ghz the processor will top 100C. How can some unlocked bios run the processor even higher is the temps are at over 90C. That is not good for the components for the long run. I think this laptop will have a much higher components failure rate for the long term.
@Eurocom Support That is really SHAME on you Eurocom, SHAME SHAME, that is complete BS. Guess what, I have a Eurocom w230ss and a Tornado F5. When the F5 comes back from RMA on Wednesday, I am done. I will put that laptop on ebay and the w230ss that acts as a business laptop, the HD, will be transferred to another laptop and I will never order anything new or used from you Eurocom.
It is time to tell everyone not to buy anything from Eurocom. They told us they would get a unlocked bios and many months later nothing shows up until this week with a big fat $145 extra charge for unlocked bios.Last edited: Mar 10, 2017UsmanKhan, birdyhands and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
Well, Cyberpower UK are an interesting bunch. The missing screws aren't important, apparently they are not included in the barebones box for them and they obviously don't have a pot of screws kicking around in their workshop!

@Eurocom Support with everything you've done so far including the 120hz screen upgrade and the unlocked bios, you have disappointed me when it comes to your carelessness about the consumer. Why do you ask for $500 for the screen upgrade? It costs only $98 on Amazon. That means your charging A LOT even for your work to put it in. Also about the unlocked bios, you said you were working on it then say oh no it's going to be $150 plus any shipping fees ha. Honestly why, what kind of customer appreciation is this? Do you not care that most of us who bought from you gave a lot, worked a lot for that money and we expected an unlocked computer like you say. I had some confidence in you before and it has just kept diminishing slowly with everything you say that you will overcharge for. I honestly feel like no one will continue to buy from you if the news about this keeps spreading around. What you say in your description is just eye candy so that the consumer will think they are getting something that turns out to actually be a work in progress that then later turns into something they are substantially charged $$ for. You are a sad excuse for a desktop replacement company and I regret buying this laptop from you. I will let everyone know across all of the laptop and overclocking forums what a fake company you are. You made an ok laptop but without the right support and all of the lies you tell us about everything that will be given to us on your website, I hope that you fail as a company or that you decide to give your paying customers what they deserve. I understand that you are a business and you need to make a profit, but undermining the consumer is not what you do. I honestly hate eurocom right now.

i got a reply from them and it seems they not willing to send me bios, only way is to send them my laptop which is around 140$ one-way ship to US from pakistan lol. shame, it would be awesome if we could get the bios through eurocom driver page. not worth for me since i can overclock through TS just fine, but would still be awesome for some ram overclock and bios undervolting.
-
To be fair, they said they would not be charging *current owners*, so if you found a cheap way to ship your laptop the BIOS update service would be free. If you are buying new however, $145 is pretty steep. Let's wait for @Eurocom Support to tell us what is in the BIOS before jumping to conclusions.Rage Set likes this.

I agree. I think some people here are confused and use the phrase "unlocked BIOS" without much thought in what it entails. For anyone that thinks they are getting a completely unlocked BIOS akin to what you get from SVET, I think you should think again. If you want that kind of functionality, you are better off going to SVET like many of us have. -
And if they had, they'd probably make you pay for them to send you the screws. Like they did with my fans.
But apart from that, what are your impressions of the machine so far? -
Are there differences between Prema & Svet Bios for the F5/16l-13?
-
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
I would speculate that Eurocom was charged a 1 time large fee for the unlocked bios from the unlocker; and they are trying to offset the cost by spreading it out to the customers (price based on unit sales predictions). This is a poor practice; it isn't Lean, and isn't customer friendly. The pillars of a good company are Respect for People and Continuous Improvement. unfortunately this is rare.
At the very least they should charge a reasonable fee ($20), and eat some of the cost themselves. They should be developing the community, not "selling to it" if they want to grow more. -
I have used BIOS by both gentlemen (I have PremaMOD BIOS on my P870DM-G). The main difference between the BIOS is that Prema devotes A LOT of his time to making his BIOS clean and user-friendly*. Prema removes options from the BIOS that 98.99% of users won't use or can cause damage to your computer if you do not know what you're doing. You're still getting a full suite of amazing OC'ing abilities. Prema also does extensive work with the EC (Clevo's ECs are notorious for throttling your CPU/GPU).
On the other hand, SVET gives unfiltered access to EVERYTHING within your BIOS. You must be cautious when using the options and research everything!
Both are great guys and you can't go wrong with either. If I had my choice, I would pick Prema.
*The options may appear user-friendly but you still want to do your due diligence in learning about overclocking before attempting it. -
From source what you're getting is a Svet unlocked bios supervised by Mr.Fox .

They want us to message the Customers support and sale team with our sugggestion / complaint. I also sent them a link to this topic asking for them to come and read the damn topic and awnser our question.
I think we should all email them and let hem know we're not happy with this situation.

Thanks for the tip on the unlocked BIOS upgrade! I will contact EUROCOM support to see if my Eurocom Tornado F5 is eligible.
It looks like Eurocom may deliver something that Alienware never could. Just say 'no' to BGA and locked down filth. I am so glad to have CHOICE.
-
Thanks, sent them an email. I wonder if this is a glimpse of the future for DTR notebooks: Lock everything down, then charge ~$150 to unlock? I hope not... an unlocked processor with an unlocked motherboard should have an unlocked BIOS as a given, not a premium. If desktop motherboard manufacturers started doing this practice, people would be up in-arms, but we are a small community, so I hope our voices are not buried.

For those of you who don't know, BIOS stands for "Biological Insecticide Organics System". It's this culture of living creatures in our computers that prevent bugs in our system. So unknown to most, Eurocom can't simply do this remotely because these organics need to be implemented straight form the source and into our notebooks. The source being a Interdimensional worm hole that leads from a little place here in Canada to their home planet where they are "locked" away from the rest of humanity. So as you can imagine, it cost quite a bit to "unlock" the dimensional barrier and give everyone their BIOS. Just wanted to clarify this for everyone wondering what's up with the price and difficulty.....Unless I'm completely wrong and there is some other perfectly reasonable explanation..

They can give us the file and give us a list of steps like svet. The guide may take a while but that shouldn't cause any problems or prices to be in order when you pay for an unlocked computer. If svet can take the time to list the steps then it shouldn't be a problem for @Eurocom Support

Wait why are we being told to ship a laptop back to the manufacturer for a simple BIOS update? All laptops including MSI retail laptops have BIOS, EC and vBIOS updates made available to the end user via a downloads page. So what gives here? Why is this being turned into some complex and expensive task?
Is this simply because the BIOS is unlocked and customized for max performance by a 3rd party? Maybe it cant be installed via a traditional method then I would somewhat understand.UsmanKhan and birdyhands like this. -
Too bad for eurocom, I think we can trust each other not to do it, especially when we provide proof that we purchased such an expensive product. Every computer company I think takes that risk except for eurocom even though it means their bios might be uploaded or something like that. Every company leaves it online for customer ease of access and so they don't have to go through hell to get something they should've gotten with the product in the first place. When I heard they were working on the bios, I said alright I can wait I understand. What I don't understand is why they choose to undermine the customer and could care less about what they think.
