Hey, does anyone knows what exactly does the ECO modes and the Shift modes do? I'm not sure and haven't seen anything in the manuals.

I am leaving the Shift mode to Sport and the ECO mode at off. I can imagine that the Shift mode limit the performance so you can save power, but what about the ECO modes?

I have Broadwell version with windows 7. I want auto volume down, when headphones plugged, otherwise I will become deaf! Also GUI from realtek drivers is rubbish. When I plug headphones, it minimizes all windows, even games, and prompts me to choose, that was plugged (headphones, speakers, etc.) How to disable this, and get some normal audio app, like sound cinema or hd manager (as I understood nahimic is for windows 8+ only)? Thanks in advance

    What's up guys
I just ordered mine, it was 799 the 960m version on amazon, think it was a great price and I also ordered a Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB M.2 SSD (MZ-N5E250BW) to use with the OS.
So I was reading that I can clone the HDD to the SSD and still use the Win 10 activated with no problems, but I want to do a clean install, will I mess with the windows activation if I do that? What 's the best way to change the OS from the HDD to SSD without loosing the windows license?
    Thanks

I've decided to return my GE62 and get a different brand for a few reasons
    1. palmrest and touchpad get uncomfortably hot just doing office work
    2. spacebar sucks - msi & steelseries seriously dropped the ball here
    3. battery life (4hrs absolute best case scenario just idling; 2.5 more realistic). It really is unacceptable how much MSI cheaped out here. It's 2015 now. The dell i'm getting easily gets twice the battery life and has the same internals - for $300 less.
    4. getting to the internals is far too much work. the dell i'm getting only requires removing 1 screw and they still managed to make the laptop thinner

the only things i will miss are the ODD bay for an extra HDD, display port out, and having a special snowflake brand-laptop.

Spacebar does suck. It needs to be hit dead center it seems and my typing style just does not allow for that.

Hi guys, I'm looking to buy MSI GE62 ApachePro-001 but got some q's before I make the final decision.

    1. What's the space expansion limit for each ssd and hdd?
    2. Would it be possible to replace the stock ssd w. a 256gb ssd in the future w/o having to reformat OS?
    3. Does it have a bad heating problem? Is applying IC Diamond on CPU and GPU necessary upon purchasing a brand new laptop?

Nobody has had any issues with the wifi on this laptop? Also, any thoughts on battery life? My girlfriend has been using this for just over a month now and battery life is like 2 hours. I'd hate for her to have to RMA it, but it seems like this was a bad purchase on my part. She also has an issue with the spacebar constantly "missing" every time she hits it. :(

Guys, do u encounter issues with the latest NVIDIA GPU's Driver (359..00)? I got issues like '.....DEVICE.HUNG' on the game Fairy Fencer F.... than, i force to render the game with Intel HD Graphics instead... than, it runs 'ok' (I run it in 4K, 3840x2160 resolution), then of course the game is very laggy with that Graphic with 9FPS. So, i tried to restore defaults in NCP, but still, no luck. Then, i install the previous version of nvidia driver 358.50, then it works just fine!! The FPS that i got is solid 30 frames per second in 4k resolution...

So, do guys encounter any issues with that Nvidia Driver 359.00?

Ouh, BTW, i also encounter issues with Assassin's Creed Syndicate. I had updated to latest Nvidia GPU driver, than i optimized the game in Full HD (1920x1080), then when i play, the screen ratio is not correct. I played in fullscreen, then the screen is Smaller than my actual resolution... My current desktop resolution is 2048x1152. I also had check the 'disable display scaling on high DPI ' in Compatibility section, still the issues had not fix.... Than, the only 'fix' is set the desktop res to 1920x1080, then the game windows is correct, but the game is VERY LAGGY with average FPS 35 - 47 in LOWEST GPU settings. Than, i had set to play in 1600x900 res, than the FPS is good around 38 - 48 FPS....

1 more issues with A.C Syndicate, i got very bad SCREEN TEARING even i had turned the VSync on, Force the VSync in NCP + Nvidia Inspector... the Pattern of screen tearing looks like this :

The screen tearing pattern got 2 obvious pattern. The area of Shaded and the 48 degree LINE... Maybe this is because of my 4k Screen with 48hz refresh rate.... but the game Witcher 3, Metal Gear Solid V have no problem with it... and that similar Screen Tearing pattern only will occur when the game was played in Borderless Fullscreen.... but i had set the A.C Syndicate in Fullscreen though....

msi uses batteries with low capacities compared to other manufacturers
    and the spacebar design sucks
we should vote with our money and let msi know we expect more than a pretty laptop

    1. The largest drives you can find of the right form factor (m.2 PCI-E and 2.5" 9.5mm) Basically the ports are limited by what you can plug in only.

    2. Your OS is on the SSD so you would have to image it over.

    3. It's nice but not required.

Thanks for the response. What about wifi? The problem my girlfriend keeps having is it will constantly go into airplane mode, back to wifi over and over again. It's not the Function keys, because the rest of them are working just fine.

So i just got the new laptop (i live in a city with sunday delivery from amazon)
i'm pleasantly surprised so far. there is almost 0 bloatware on this thing, just a mcaffe trial and dell audio/update/recovery software
i also prefer the keyboard on the dell. it's quieter and doesn't sound "plasticy" like the msi keyboard... AND THE SPACEBARD WORKS EVERY TIME EVEN WHEN PRESSING LIGHTLY ON THE VERY EDGES. I also prefer the white backlighting on the dell since i don't like the default red color on the msi, and the dell keyboard can get dimmer than the msi which is good for nightime
the speakers on this also seem to be better than on the MSI, and the subwoofer is actually noticeable. i also prefer the speaker placement above the keyboard and not below, since on the msi the speakers were blocked when i placed it on my laptop stand at work.
the SSD it comes with is decent, but i'll still be replacing it with the samsung evo 850 i got for the msi, since it's faster, and sell the one it came with on ebay. they're going about about $90.
unfortunately i got a unit with a lower quality (relatively - it's still a good display) BOE display, so i'll see if dell will send me a replacement LG display, as some owners have had luck doing that.
i'm watching 1080p videos on youtube with 70% brightness and the battery is showing 8hrs (98%). wow
i had been hating on dell for the past 10 years, they've really come a long way. maybe it was after dell went private.

Hi all, I'm looking to buy the GE62 Apache-276.

I'm actually going back and forth between getting that or the ASUS ROG GL551JW-WH71 (read it has better battery life, 7-8 hours when doing simple tasks).

The MSI is lighter than the ASUS which I prefer, but I keep reading about MSI's crap battery life which is a big deal for me since I'm a college student. I can't imagine how bad the battery's going to get in the long run, like after a year. Why is MSI so backdated in that area?

Or should I just forget both of those and go with the Dell Inspiron i7559-763BLK?

Usually MSI is on par with a lot of other gaming laptop manufacturers for battery life. That is one area that Asus excels at, but at the same time, that model doesn't have much options for upgrading, like the ability to add in m.2 drives in it. Each company usually has some strong points that other companies aren't as good at.

They really should get rid of the dvd drive on their next gaming laptops refresh.

Use that space for battery cells instead.

I actually got the Apache pro few hours after posting my question lol.

Thing is I was supposed to get the 7559 too as it has a great battery life and many other perks, but I was having some doubts on the 960m.

It was getting a little slow on newer games and I've gotta feeling 2016 games are gonna be hard on it.

The 970m on the other hand is as good, if not better than the desktop 960 so it's definitely a good choice for future proof.

So far the battery definitely isn't great but I'm still using it plugged in most of the time and only used it for 30 minutes on battery. Lost close to 20 percent lol. I'm gonna do the undervolt suggestion and see how it goes.

But I must say this laptop is great for gaming so far. Crisis 3 runs at average 40 at maxed out settings and 2x AA.

My left hand controlling the WASD key was starting to feel some heat, so I then turned on the fan boost and almost immediately the temp went down.

Speakers are loud but definitely lacking in bass, I agree the 7559 is better here. Heard it in store and was surprised.

Wifi card has been great so far. Getting 20MBps download speed on origin. Touchpad two finger scroll is finicky on chrome but I'm sure that can be fixed with a driver update. But I love how sensitive it is to tap. The skylake gs60 ghost pro I sold off a while back require some force to tap. And it's also nice to have separate keys for mouse.

Screen is amazing. I don't need anything more for that. Except for Microsoft to do something about those blurry programs still in windows 10, like the disk management, device manager and some other stuff. Didn't see this on my old 900p laptop.

It's an ok laptop overall but would have been great if they got rid of the dvd drive and used that space to put a 74wh battery or something.

    Hi guys,

Just bought an MSI GE62 2QD a few days, and I'm starting to get crazy about what I think it is a display issue.

Have you experienced any strange reproduction of colors in the MSI GE62 display?? I'm seeing that, when displaying pictures of people, or some specific colors, the laptop screen won't reproduce these colors or skin tones as they are, and the images look like "saturated" or something. I can easily see the difference when I compare the GE62 screen with my PC display or my smartphone display. I have tried connecting the laptop with HDMI to another screen, and images look perfect in that screen, so it must be an issue with the laptop display.

And, besides that, I have also experienced screen burn when I set some wallpapers. When a gray image that covers the whole display is shown, I can still see some of my wallpaper details, which is weird... I hope that I am being able to explain myself correctly!

Hope that you can give me some answers, and that you can tell me if you have had any of these issues with your MSI GE62 displays. Thank you all very much in advance.

It might have something to do with true color. Have you tried messing around with it?

I run a 24" IPS Dell(100% sRGB) off of HDMI and it's been my experience that True Color does not effect the external display when cycling through the options. Just on the GE62 2QF Apache Pro display.

I've also calibrated both the 24" and laptop display(also IPS, 91% sRGB) via Spyder 4 but they still look different.

It is output only. The only models I can think of that had HDMI input was from Alienware, and isn't on any of their current models anymore.

My Ge62 didn't have True Color installed by default, but even so, I installed it and messed around with it, without any success. I also tried almost every combination of gamma, contrast and saturation from the graphics driver options, and the problem persists.

I am accepting that my laptop screen is going to look slightly different than my external screen, and since I'm not a professional or a designer, I'm not too concerned about that. The point is that I'm not being able of getting a proper color reproduction in my laptop display, but I am getting one that it's unacceptable from what I expect on a laptop for this price. What I want to know is if you noticed any of these issues as soon as you got your GE62s, without any further configuration, and just opened Facebook and see any picture. My old Compaq laptop ($350) has some terrible viewing angles, as well as a not too bright screen, but pictures of people look just fine to the eye. I need to know if I have a defective display.

    Thanks again!

I have the GE62 qe apache with 4k running on windows 10. I don't know why but everything gets really small like LOL or netbeans (programming app).
Is there a way to keep it 4k and still make sure everything is clearly visible?

Looks like you fell for the 4k marketing gimmick and didn't actually need 4k.
try increasing the scaling: rightclick on desktop->display settings

Thanks for the help! Didn't really care for the 4k screen. I personally think its bs, but it had the best hardware (CPU & GPU). I tried scalling but it doesn't help with everything. In game it makes everything abnormally huge. Might got any other tip?

Guys, does anyone knows what does the 'high performance' button, besides the 'windows key' under the device setting, in the msi dragon center, does? I'm asking this because there is already a shift mode which you can choose between green, comfort or sport performances, so I was wondering if it has something to do with hybrid power, since it doesn't have a tab in this laptop. For instance, it might be that selecting 'high performance', hybrid power would be then activated. Is anyone's laptop like this?

Edit: Nevermind, it is only the power saving settings...

If anyone was wondering wether the notebook supports the M.2 PCI-Ex4 SSD, the answer is yes, I bought a Samsung SM951, 256 GB, and the notebook can use it!

Hello everyone. I have audio problem with my ge72 2qf laptop. When sounds start or stop(pausing music in player or opening pipboy in fallout 4 for example) I can hear click sound in speakers or even in USB-headphones. I've tried reinstalling audio drivers, windows 10, loading liveusb with Ubuntu all the same. Help me please

That's weird. It is already weird that it did not come with the TrueColor already installed... I did notice that the color reproduction is not as good as a Dell P2414H that I have or as an Alienware 15 that I rma'd because of ghosting, but I don't think it is bad at all.

Try to delete all the audio drivers and only instal the one from realtek. I don't know why but when I did this is worked for me.

Can anyone let me know of the vBios for the 970m is stored in the system Bios or on a separate chip making it easier to flash with unlock. A test to tell would be to use GPU-Z to save your current vBios.

    Thanks!

First of all, why revert to W7? W10 is way better.
Second of all, your (probably torrented) copy of W7 is stripped down so much that it doesn't include the right drivers.

    1) You're not at a position to question his choice

    2) That's not how torrented copies work.

I had similar problems and eventually gave up. Are you installing this onto a PCI-E SSD because people have stated that windows 7 was incompatible with certain types of drives. This doesn't look like a problem from that, try install windows 7 via a CD if you have it or try another USB. It seems you've already gotten past the bios errors (legacy, csm, etc) and the Partition type errors (GPT, MBR). Google the issue. Nobody here was able to help me and I've still been unable in my attempts. Good luck, report back if you're successful.

Oh this is rich. I give him the known solution and this guy tells me I'm wrong. Ok enjoy not being able to install W7 because you're using a bad copy in ignorance.

    1. It requires a driver to be loaded through any USB flash drive via USB 2.0 port.
    2. IRST 14 is required, click here to download. Extract it and only copy the files under x64 folder.
