    Hello,

Just got my MSI GE62 6QF. Windows didn't recognize the web cam.

Where can I get the Web cam driver?

    Thanks

Have you pressed Fn + F6 to connect the camera?
No driver is available nor needed.

For Fn+F6 does nothing.. well it enables/disables camera in the SCM, but not really launches it.

I have a question about GPU/CPU performance. I have 970m and i7 5700hq... i watched a guy playing BF 4 with Ultra preset and he had constant 60FPS. I get something around 45 mostly but my CPU seems using only 50% of its resources. According to GPU-Z GPU runs at 93-99% so uses its potential. Is the GPU bottlenecking? on YT both the CPU and the GPU were botj able to push these 60FPS.
SPECS: Win10, Drivers all U2D, Sport mode on, High performance Windows power plan. So it my system bloated or where could the problem be?

Correct, this is why I use the word "connect" but not launch, or turn on the camera.
You can use Skype to verify the camera once it's "connected" to your system.

Does that guy with 60fps has the same system (GE62) as you do? The result should be consistent and similar throughout the same model.

Model was not mentioned, not even sure if ti was MSI. Only HW Specs were written in description. I know there are differences between models even with the same specs but this is too huge difference.

Just downloaded 3DMark. 16900 points in Sky Diver and 6700 in Fire strike. For the same specs the highest values are 18000 and 7400. Although it doesn't look like huge difference mainly in the CPU testing there is huge boost in performance like twice as much FPS. My conclusion is that CPU is not using its full potential, but i don't know why.

It's going to be rare to use both CPU and GPU to 100% because one or the other will be the bottleneck. If you are already near 100% GPU, it won't matter if you have a stronger CPU, you can't push more performance. In here, the limit is your GPU. If you magically had a 50% stronger GPU, at the exact same settings, you would see your CPU usage increase as it needs to feed more frames for the GPU to work with.

Right now it seems like the GPU is the one limiting. Also, take it with a grain of salt when you see such videos. All machines perform mostly in line but there is always a delta, and I am sure that person didn't have 60fps all the time. Also, are you using the exact same settings? A lot of the time users say "maxing games" when in reality we drop antialiasing, or a setting here or there, and mostly everything else maxed.

Monitor your CPU and GPU clockspeeds during gaming, just like you monitored your % usage. As well as temps. You can see a broader picture. If your CPU is working as its designated speed or turboing, you are already at the best you can CPU wise.

Thx. Yes well i always had the 2%-less-powerful-then-all-others model :D but not with so huge difference :D i have monitored Clockspeeds too with GPU-Z and Intel XTU.

Only thing he could do was disabling VSync, otherwise graphics were set using preset Ultra (he would need to use preset Custom, to be able to modify values). I couldn't find the video again so it is probably what he did. Also i found out that there are different or OCed models of 970M as in the 3DMark specs there were models with higher memory/clock speed then my GC has. So this is probably what i am experiencing - bottlenecking of my GPU + comparison of two different pieces of HW

Consider this question as closed :) thanks for help :)

ADD: Interesing "****t", Intel XTU seems a bit broken, one time it locked my CPU to 1,5Ghz, other time it had incorrectly shown active cores count. Switched to less precise, but more reliable Windows resource monitor as Throttlestop stopped working and i am waiting for an update

You are welcome! And sad to hear intel XTU is causing issues. it's one of the programs that does not like to play well with others. Even some anti virus break its clock speed monitoring haha. Don't sweat it, even if you are the 2% slower, you are still powerful :)

Yeah i didn't thought about antivirus interference at all... it is true that i use Avast which is famous for its resource heaviness and incompatibility with almost everything without manual exception set up :D that could probably be the cause of higher ping from time to time and also lower frame rate... will test it and report here later if disabling it helped :)

Hi all again. Unfortunately it isn't going very well. Undervolting the CPU did practically nothing, i went down to about -75mV and any lower would crash the system. When watching a basic video stream im getting about 72 degrees on the CPU. It seems like core 3 and core 4 have higher temps than the rest. Any suggestions? I'm really starting to think I have a bad unit or something.

It is normal that 2 cores have higher temps then others, as other cores may be parked or the apps you run are unable to use more then 2 cores. The difference shouldn't be big, just few degrees maximally. What browser do you use? I absolutely hate Chrome as it is more of a google spyware then a browser. Friend's computer started crashing a while ago, turned out it was Chrome, which launched as many instances as the RAM allowed and then the computer crashed :D, try other browser, i would recommend Firefox.

    A) Change browser
    B) Check processes whether there is something heating it up.
    C) Try reinstalling XTU sometimes it goes mad and does weird things, like i was able to undervolt to -200 mV... then i realized that nothing had changed only XTU was hallucinating.
    D) What are you rooms temps? 72°C is a lot but low room temps do a wonder with cooling and high temps? Yeah you guessed - exact opposite.
    E) Do you live in dusty environment? Check the bottom of the ntb, whether its air nets are dusted a lot.
    F) Check gaming center/Device setting tab - High performance should be grey not yellow and switch to Comfort Mode instead of Sport
    G) Check Windows powerplan and set the balanced profile not the high performance one.
    H) Update all drivers
    I) Is your ntb using integrated GC or dedicated nVidia card?
    - I1) Check the light on the on/off button - blue = intel, orange (or what color it is) = nVidia,
    - I2) Go to Gaming center/System monitor - look at the Temperature stat of "dGPU" it should be N/A if you are not doing anything 3D heavy like gaming
    - I3) If temps shows a value other then N/A go to nVidia driver control panel and set there default GC the integrated Intel one
    J) also check Power Consumption, my ntb showed 11-16 W all the time i wrote this, with occasional spikes to 22 W

Hello guys, I figured I should register here and ask here instead of MSI support.

Here's the ticket I openned with MSI and got closed a month ago without any solution.

    "Hello,

I purchased the MSI GE62 APACHE PRO 6QF laptop a week ago now.

I was amazed by the price and the specifications of it and was pleased by the product when I installed Windows 10.

I wanted to get rid of Windows 10 and install Windows 7 on it.

Sadly I cannot boot the instalation media cause the BIOS provided with the laptop is not ACPI Compliant, and I got a blue screen when I try to boot on the instalation media.

I tried downloading and flashing the latest bios on the website, but it's the same version as the one pre-installed.

Question is, are you going to deploy an ACPI Compliant BIOS at some point? Or is there any workaround to fix this issue?

Thanks a lot in advance, and have a good day,

    Regards,"

May any of you have an idea how to install Windows 7 on my 6QF?

    Thanks in advance.

I noticed that the Broadwell 2QF got a BIOS update on December. "Fix BSU Password windows language show abnormal" or whatever that means... anyone know what it actually fixes?

Also, a little tip for people rocking the Broadwell version: Windows 10 doesn't automatically update the driver for the integrated graphics. If your driver is at version 20.19.15.4267 update to 20.19.15.4300 here.

I'm not sure how but I think i fixed the issue - got about a -60mV drop on XTU and the temperatures are better. Still hitting 90C but I don't think it's too big of an issue. Also I found out that if I dispose of the heat when idle I can get lower temps with the fan still off - about 39C. I downloaded MSI's silent fan option program and changed the values and it seems to be okay now - about 710cb now and im getting max 65C on twitch streams. Thanks for your help guys, really appreciate it. Much better than the MSI forums. :)

I have the same laptop and am trying to install 7 also with no luck. I've tried everything I can think of.
    -Bios in legacy mode
    -Boot from genuine Win7 DVD
-Boot from bootable USB, with and without USB3.0 and SP1 slipstreamed
-Took the SSD out to load on HDD (thinking Win7 didn't have native drivers or was compatible with a SSD)
    -Bio update
    All with no luck.

Every time regardless of combination above it loads the files, I see the windows logo starting to come together then BSOD with BIOS not ACPI Compliant.

    Have you had any luck?

I have updated my killer networking drivers and it still isnt working. Also laptop keeps disconnecting to my wifi and then i have to troubleshoot to connect it again. but it disconnects again after few mins. please help!

Has any of you overclocked /overclocked+undervolted the CPU? Which values are you using? I cant get a stable 3,7 GHz overclock on my 5700HQ

Hi all, I have a problem which I think is not normal:
The left palm rest of my GE62-6QF gets quite hot even when I am not doing intensive work (browsing, etc., using intel graphics; the power button is blue)
It is actually hotter than the left top side of the keyboard, which is where the CPU is (right?) which is very weird. What is actually underneath the left palm rest that could be causing the issue?

P.S. I got my laptop in Korea where the retailer included a free SSD which was installed in their shop and shipped to my house (might be related since Speccy reports 47 degrees Celsius, but I think I saw the SSD was on the right side of the laptop)

I found a hacked KLM (Keyboard LED Manager; works on my GE62-6QF) that responds way quicker than the stock steelseries engine: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4hdg2pydhait1vi/KLM_Hack_By_ySomic.rar
You can change the timer interval as well, but the volume sensitivity (the audio mode in steelseries) is stuck to 5, which is way better than the stock driver which doesn't respond at lower volumes

I undervolted my CPU (i7-6700HQ) to -179mV and my highest temperature (stress test in Intel XTU) is 61 degrees; the stock temperature max in the Intel XTU CPU stress test was 73 degrees Celsius (12 degrees drop).
My idle/normal use temperature stays at 50 degrees though...

Just ordered a new GE62 from Amazon and will update later on upgrades.

Question: I've read that, while gaming, it uses quite a bit of power thus also using the battery etc. Is there a better charger available for this machine? Can you, for example, whack on a GE72 charger for more ooommpth?

    Thanks in advance

The system is designed to draw 150W from the DC jack, and other from the battery so it is normal for it to behave this way to obtain more performance.
Upgrading the AC adapter to anything higher than 150W will not make any difference as the system will still draw 150W.

    Another question: :)

Just fitted a Samsung 950 M.2. Nvme PCIE drive and... nothing. In the bios it states "PCIE Information, PCIE SSD - Empty. It's not. Checking for BIOS update now.

At least it's taken the Ripjaw ram but probably running it at stock speeds. 6QC model.

Just read that the BIOS doesn't see it but it's there. Soon find out... Yep, installing windows. How odd.

Hello, I have GE62 6QD since friday and I have some questions.
    1. I noticed strange battery drain while asleep. By night I have about 20-25% battery loss. It's way to much, my previous MSI notebook has about 95-98% battery in the morning without cable plugged in. I think it's something wrong with settings but i don't know where (I checked BIOS and power management in Windows).
    2. Notebook is waking up when lid opens. I know it's not managed by Windows, and in BIOS i can't see an option for that, but maybe I'm blind :) I want it to wake up only on power button.
    3. I read in reviews that 120w power supply is too weak. I see here that some has 150w power supply. Can I replace that with stronger one (there is similar question on previous page).
    Thanks for future answers.

The system supports M.2 SATA signal but not PCIE signal so the 950 may not work at all.

Oppps, sorry, it does work. The bios doesn't see it but Windows does. Latest release build of Win 10 clean installed, drivers all in order, all working and ready for VM work with mild gaming. Shame that I don't have fine control of the ram though.

A bigger shame is that my model of GE62 doesn't have the additional 2 M.2. sata ports. :(. I recall owning an earlier model (GE60?) that featured 2x M.2. sata and 1x M.2 PCIe

Does the Samsung 950 M.2. Nvme work properly without errors?

Yes - at least it's supposed to. From what we've seen, it's best to use Samsung's driver for it, too.

My model, however, does not have 3 m.2 ports (GE 6QC). See the picture above. It arrived with ONLY the 1Tb hard drive and I've added the M.2 SSD.

It seems to be working with no problems? Top is the 950 M.2.

Lovely machine. I had to sell my Asus ROG 15" machine, same specs pretty much, due to not supporting 3340x1440 @60Hz over HDMI. Now THAT was a nice machine... also quieter than the GE62.

    Onwards...

P.s. I really wanted an Alienware 15 R2 due to the gaming dock. Where's the one MSI announced? (Not the GS30)

Very good speeds indeed but capable of even better maybe.

Same here, but worse. My GE62-6QF gets HOT (as if it was on) during sleep, and the battery actually dies out (in my memory in less than 3 hours)

I have had problems with W10 Windows Update. There was weird problem - when any win update was ready to be installed, my pc didn't hiberante/slept corretcly. The screen switched of but the machine was still running. That would correspond to your 3hrs discharge. Not sure why this problem stopped. Maybe it was caused by XTU. I am not sure now, but try to manually update windows and deactivate XTU voltage settings.

    To @jarul777:
Windows power plan handles lid open/close operations. It is hidden in Advanced section of windows power plan settings.
PS.: Nice "N7" sign edit ;))

Not really, because it was actually doing this since I first got it (way before I even installed Intel XTU)..... Thanks for the tip though :)

Is anybody else disappointed by the cooling on this laptop? The surface gets hot and the gpu and cpu both reach 90 after just 30 minutes of gaming. And XTU is too glitchy to be useful.

That is definitely not normal since my GE62-6QF gets 68 degrees (celcius) for the GPU and 61 (after undervolting to -179mV in intel XTU) degrees while playing Blacksquad or any other game (GTA V, etc.) ... The only thing that I am kind of worried about is that the left palm rest actually gets hotter than the top left part of the laptop where the CPU is...

Hmmph, I even have the 960M... I'll try XTU again.

Okay so this is really bothering me.

I set my power option to 99% but when I run a benchmark, it still turbo boosts itself. There's no way to turn it off in XTU or in the bios. When I set power option to 100% or 50% it still does the same thing.

Next on XTU when I set my core multiplier to 2.5, it automatically defaults to 2690 Mhz. When I put it on 2.0 or anything, it still sites at that same number, undervolting does absolutely nothing. Is my laptop broken? Or is this just another windows 10 fail?

The i7-6700HQ isn't overclockable, so changing the core multiplier will not work (guess that's why it defaulted back to 2690Mhz). Try undervolting and see if that helps with the temperatures.

So today I went into the registry editor and found out that connected standby is actually enabled for this machine (like wtf...), which means that the laptop won't completely turn off when going to sleep after undervolting (so Intel XTU undervolt is the cause; maybe I remembered it differently, I thought it was something else affecting it). So basically it is the same problem as the surface pro 3 undervolting problems (when the tablet didn't fully go to sleep after undervolting)

So you can disable it by following the instructions here: http://windowsitpro.com/windows-client/disabling-windows-connected-standby

And probably hibernation would be the best choice for us...

    Hey everyone,

Yesterday I purchased a brand new MSI GE62 Apache Pro-004 Signature Edition Gaming Laptop from the Microsoft store. I fully charged it out of the box but found the battery life is pretty lame so far. I was barely using it and the battery brand new was saying from the start that it only had 2 1/2 hours left. I know that most people were saying it should be getting at least 3 1/2 hours depending on usage. I generated a battery report and this is what I got:

    DESIGN CAPACITY 53,236 mWh
    FULL CHARGE CAPACITY 48,208 mWh
    CYCLE COUNT -

Is this common? I mean it is brand new. I have had it for a day. Full charge capacity seems significantly lower than the design capacity. What do you all recommend? Should I contact Microsoft, should I just return it? Do you have any suggestions as to why I am not getting a good full charge?

Any help would be very appreciated.

    Thanks for your time!

Yes it is common, there's some capacity that's reserved.
