Undervolting gives my computer random crashes even if it's just a simple very small offset, but I'll test again as maybe there was a windows glitch a while back. And FYI I'm using the i7-5700HQ.

    Thanks for the response Kevin!

I have another quick question. I am concerned about the battery life, it is quite low. If the battery completely stops working in about 5 years will I still be able to use the computer if it is is always plugged in with the AC Adapter? I just don't want a computer that I cannot use in 5 years if it has no power source. I don't feel like having to buy a new battery in the future. So I just want to make sure that it is possible to always be able to use it via the AC Adapter even if the battery isn't holding any juice.

Thanks again for the help. It is very appreciated.

Yes, you can always use it without the battery since it's just a secondary power source.

    @Jackforest
Of course I had it enabled, I didn't even know some "feature" like this exists. I checked all clickable options of power and I didn't find anything about this function. But, of course, they hide it in registry. Ekhm, Windows 10... Big thanks, I'll do some test and let everyone know if it helps.

    @tomasoncz
In advanced section of Windows power plan I only have option for lid close, not lid open. Or maybe I'm looking in wrong place.
P.S.: Thanks for appreciation, I'm big Mass Effect fan :)

I did this with my Asus G74. I mean I barely used the battery over the coarse of a couple of years. The battery still didn't last.

Ideally, you store a Lithium battery with 40% electricity. When it's constantly stored at 100% then there will be more wear and tear to the cells. Also, a battery generally lasts 500 cycles.

Underclocking the CPU from x36 multiplier to x30 max one core, x28 max four cores eliminated all throttling for me :) no big performance hit in gaming.

Unfortunetely disabling Connected Standby didn't helped. Battery drain still exists. I think that CS isn't even available on classic notebooks. So question is still active: what could cause that drain?

I asked my ICT teacher yesterday about the issue, he told me to check if some unnecessary processes are keeping it awake, or disable devices that are making it stay awake..

P.S. he told me that Windows 10 was sh*t and that I should change to Windows 7, and I told him that there were no official supported drivers for Windows 7, but he said that *everything* works on Windows 7, so should I try downgrading and see if it helps?

I'd like to officially state, for whatever record you'd like to place it onto, that your ICT teacher is talking utter rubbish and should really stop spreading his 'obviously' personal view of Windows 10. Windows 7 is a perfectly fine OS which, upon release, did have issues. Windows 8.0, upon release, had issues and, yep, Windows 10 also has issues. Eventually Windows 10 will become a really reliable, solid OS and it's not exactly far from there right now.

Windows 10 is the future. It's here to stay. Windows 7 is now VERY old. Heck... why not just go back to Windows 2000 (That's sarcasm). Basically, in the end, we'll ALL be on Windows 10 or on macs (Running Windows 10 and OSX). I'd prefer a Surface Pro 4 but etc etc.

Subjective. Totally personal (albeit, popular) opinion. You might be in for a bigger headache than you're having now by downgrading. Also, if you opt for a different OS than what's officially supported, that means MSI tech support will be unwilling - or unable - to assist should you ever reach out to them.

So this week I hit major snag with my 6QF. usb 2.0 thumb drives and devices like xbox 360 wireless controller pad wont get detected or recieve any phantom power.

usb HDD (2.0) , keyboard, mouse all work and get detected fine. this issue cropped up in 10, i did a fresh install, same issue, went down to 7, same issue even with proper drivers.

updated bios to 10c, made sure xhci hand off, legacy, and also usb mass storage support was enabled. bios is also in uefi with csm and doesnt see thumbdrives

NOTHING! if anyone has ideas before I RMA then i would be so happy because i am scared i wont get my M9T back since i driveswapped

    edit:
On whole w7/10 debate the windows 7 drivers were absent on the MSI USA website till mid january for me , but I had found 7 drivers for same model with MSI Germany that US failed to post for months so my suggestion is check MSI Deutchlands support page for drivers first for 7 if MSI US has nothing because DE will have them if MSI offers support. (itll be same model number and all). A quirk indeed but simple test

ofc I know that it is his personal idea, just asking if I should actually downgrade and see if everything works. I sort of agree with him because I got BSOD's on my SP3 on Windows 10 (had no issues with windows 8 whatsoever), and last week my friend was unable to take a test because he kept on getting the "Critical_Process_Died" BSOD (eventually did a clean install of windows 8). I never had a BSoD with Windows 7, and only one BSOD on Windows 8. (But yeah this is also my personal opinion/experience)

Yes, you are right, it does not do anything; I will ask MSI support.

Hi can someone please help me. I have just brought a GE62 2QF (GTX970M), can someone please explain how I make the damn thing use the main graphics card, everytime I load a game, for example XCOM 2 it keeps using the HD card. I'm not great with computers, i have it set to high performance battery mode and have the shift thing in sport but nothing i do makes a difference. I would really appreciate anyone to advise me what to do.

Go to your desktop -> Right Click -> Click on 'NVIDIA Control Panel' -> Wait a bit until it loads up -> '3D settings' (Left sidebar) -> 'Manage 3D settings -> Program Settings -> 'Add' -> Choose the program you want to run it on dedicated graphics -> Select 'High-performance NVIDIA processor' -> Apply

Or, you instead of going to 'Program Settings', you could go to global settings and choose the NVIDIA card to run for all programs (it will not change for default apps such as internet explorer, etc.)

-I installed Windows 8 by mistake when I first got the laptop (FreeDOS), everything was working except the wifi (could not download the driver since I didn't have wifi...) so I just installed Windows 10 because it was the *only* supported version of Windows.

Now, I want to get back to 7 since I have had such a good experience with it (have to sacrifice metro apps and time but let's just try)

so... I found drivers for Windows 7, will try it and tell you guys the results (I have everything on OneDrive so data loss is not my problem, and I have a SP3 as a backup)

    -DRIVERS-

    Wifi Card: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/89450/Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-3165
Graphics: Normal NVidia driver and Intel HD driver
    Steelseries 3: https://steelseries.com/engine
Touchpad: was working on windows 8, or install Synaptics V 7.5 driver

All other drivers are also out there available for Windows 7, not sure why MSI just decided to support only Windows 10 (*might be marketing who knows*)

Go to Start and try searching for it.
If you don't have it check if you have the NVidia graphics driver installed..

P.S. the battery mode thing and shift mode doesn't affect which graphics card is being used, just changes the processor frequency (sport mode locks it at highest, eco mode locks it at lowest, and comfort mode is adaptive (default).

It's not just MSI. Typically just about every OEM pushes the latest OS, irrespective of driver support from vendors.

    Hi guys,

I just bought a Msi ge72 6qf (with the I5 quad core) but I have three concerns about it.

    1) when I activate the turbo fan , the chassis vibrates a bit , is this normal?

    2) My pc suffers from lightbleeding all around the screen (three spots where there is an yellow light), Should I return the PC or is it a common problem found on all models ?

    3) The left palmrest is kinda warm even in idle , I don't know why cause under there is nothing except the Hard drive (i don't have SSD) . I saw this

    https://service.msicomputer.com/msi_user/support/TechFAQdetail.aspx?formid=3387

    is it really efficient ?

Thanks for help and sorry for my bad english :/

    1) My GE62 does not vibrate.
    2) Mine suffers lightbleeding only on the top right part of the bezel *EDIT* on the top left part of the bezel as well
    3) Same for me, but I have an SSD installed (took out the ODD and replaced it with the original HDD) (and Speccy shows that while the HDD is only 35 degrees, SSD is around 50 degrees during normal usage) (Did not try the BIOS update; didn't know there was one)

The fan may cause chassis to vibrate, you can check it to verify if it's securely tightened onto the chassis or not. Tighten the screws if necessary.

Lightbleeding exists in many screens and panels so it is normal to see it. Some high end panels can also have such issue.

The heat area can be the GPU area too.

I agree with what Jackforest said.

Hi guys, I bought this laptop a while ago and it was perfect - I loved it. But I recently spilled some liquid on it, I cleaned it thoroughly and now the t, g, v and numerous other keys refuse to work. A simple solution is to obviously just replace the keyboard, except there is my problem: there are no screws on the top of it to take it out. I tried looking inside it but it doesn't look like an easy task. Do you think a technician would be able to do this? Or is it forever screwed?

If keyboard is part of C panel then the whole panel (including the keyboard) will need to be replaced altogether.

    Hi, I have a GE62-6QF (i7-6700HQ)

When I play games such as GTA V, Project CARS, my CPU *RANDOMLY* starts thermal throttling, even at low temperatures, and just stay throttled until I close the game or switch applications (Makes the game lag horribly)

GTA V runs at average 55 fps, but lags down to 15 when the CPU locks itself to 0.80ghz due to throttle, and almost the same scenario for Project CARS as well.

Already tried setting the max CPU load to 99% in power options and undervolting, no luck.

Screenshot of Intel XTU showing this (Green line is the throttle, parts where it is 0% is when I switched from the game to XTU to check the throttle status)

    Hi,

I'm interested in MSI GE62, but the thing that put me down is the Home/End key where they must be pressed together with FN combination and I dislike to use FN key. But I found there are Home/End key in numpad, probably I can use them instead, although not sure if they are comfortable (i.e. easy to reach when typing) as I never own notebook with numpad before.

I wonder which Home/End key you guys usually use, are the one at top-right corner (with FN) or on the numpad?

    Thx b4.

If needed, you can ask Svet to customize the key for you.
It can be swapped, changed to something else, or disabled.

Who is svet? You mean customize the keyboard hardware? I never know that is possible in laptop realm.

I have thinkpad where I swapped the Home/End key with PgUp/PgDn key using key tweak software but still I prefer not using any key tweak software or any hardware modification.

All visual settings were the default settings (GTA V "Very High")
I tried changing the settings all to Low, lowered resolution to 1280*720, toggled between windows mode and fullscreen mode, but the processor was locked at 0.80ghz due to thermal throttling. (Not a hardware issue, it is a software issue since it works fine most of the time)

I am extremely overwhelmed with work now, so sorry for late response. Lid open wake up laptop automatically, when Sleep mode is enabled. If you use Hybrid/Hibernation, then it won't work. Except for that, you are right. There is no settings for this action.

Sorry if my response was unclear, I meant that I tried those combos separately, and independently. No luck :/ it's really frustrating because I really can't seem to find what is causing the issue since it happens randomly...

Submitted to MSI support, got a reply that they would give me a call to get more information from me about the issue.

Does this happen with stock CPU options (no undervolting whatsoever?) It's so weird it is being thermally controlled like that, what were your max temps?

Hiyo. My buddy's got a GE62-2QE. The other day he spilled a large Sprite all over it. Was pretty bad. He let it sit for a couple dozen hours to make sure it was completely dry. The computer works still, but some of the keys are not working. I can't seem to find anywhere a comprehensive guide to removing the keyboards, I remember seeing a PDF once when we got the computer, but now I can't find it. Can anyone point me to it? (We're gonna see if cleaning it with some isopropyl would do anything but I doubt it.)

Also since we're gonna need a new one, the only place that seems to sell keyboards for GE62's are a site called LaptopKeyboard.com, (a steep $200 for these keyboards...) can anyone vie for the trustworthiness of the site?

    Thanks for any help.

Water damage will short-circuit the keyboard.
The keyboard is part of C panel (the side with keyboard) because the keyboard is glued onto the C panel directly therefore you will have to replace the entire C panel in order to replace the keyboard.
The best source for parts is still MSI.

Hello guys, am new here! I'm surprised at how many people actually have this laptop xD

I myself have had the GE62 Apache Pro-055 since around.. June or July last year, and boy have I had a blast with it. It's my "first" laptop ever (the previous one was a shared laptop with the family, which unfortunately met it's demise over a year ago, so I was stuck without any sort of PC except a crappy old mini laptop, until I got this beauty). Problem is though.. I play basically the same games over and over, and some of them aren't even top notch in graphics XD So when I start playing Fallout 4 after a long break.. i tend to forget the beast of a machine that I have sometimes.

I haven't had any issues with it, aside from memory issues which caused it to become very slow and sluggish. That was solved by reinstalling windows though. And the microphone jack seems to be loose or probably broken inside, but it's still usable. Other than that, still love this machine! Glad I waited and didn't get the GE60 XD
