Hello All,
I'm looking forward to buying the GE62 2QF APACHE PRO and I want to confirm if the screen is not locked to 48hz refresh rate. I hope this is not the RGBW Pentile screen as used in the Ghost Pro which is locked to 48hz and has terrible yellow reproduction. Also, does this screen have ghosting issues like the Alienware 15?
These two doubts are the only things stopping me from finalizing my purchase. Please post any other issues encountered by you guys so I can make an informed decision.
Thank you. -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
It should be 60hz, the 4k are the only ones I know of to limit at 48hz. -
Thanks for the information Hutsady. I am assuming this means that the screen is also not RGBW Pentile type and has no problems displaying the colour yellow properly since these problems only affect the 4K displays made by Samsung?
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
I don't know for sure the type, but I do not recall any issues with the yellow tint on this model, but do recall it on the 4K screen. I would feel safe saying it is not a RGBW Pentile type. -
Thank you Hutsady. After going through multiple reviews and the entirety of this thread, I think I can safely order this piece. Hope to join this club soon!

Well yesterday i updated ec firmware, bios, drivers and apps from MSI website... not sure which one did it but it seriously ****ed my battery life it is cut in half now... so just aprox. 90 mins of watching TV shows on TV via HDMi output and aprox. 3 hrs of office work... the previous BIOS i had was version ending with "10B" anyone know where i could download that older Bios? or older EC firmware? Or any suggestion what to do?

Just wanted to say thanks again. This did the trick for us.
Laptops are running great. She's getting used to Windows 8.1 and I'm getting used to Windows 10.

Try pressing the airplane mode button. -
I put it off and on airplane mode already and still doesn't work
-
Hi there again. Anyone knows of there are other brands which use the same ac adapter as our model? I found external 33600mAh battery, but MSI connector is not listed, only "Dell HP Sony IBM Lenovo Samsung Toshiba Acer Compaq Fujitsu Gateway Lition Asus" it costs a lot of money to just buy it and hope.
EDIT:
Next question is amperage. There is not a single one powerbank that would output 8A, max 4,5A which is less, then this notebook needs. Would it damage anything? I would mostly be worried, that the power bank would melt down.Last edited: Aug 15, 2015 -

Get the most up to date wireless card driver from the manufacturer's site (Intel, Killer, etc...). Plug your computer in through ethernet, or download it on another computer to a USB drive. Uninstall the wireless card and reinstall it, see if it works. If it doesn't, then in the device manager, right click the wireless card and go to the properties. In there, it should have some advanced options for your wireless card. The options will vary by each wireless card, but make sure it is using all wireless bands (2.4 and 5.2 ghz), that it is at full power, etc. It could be a setting in there.
Otherwise, do any of the other Fn hotkeys work? If the airplane one isn't doing anything, and no other Fn hotkeys are working, you might need to re-install the SCM utility (you get it it from MSI's site). SCM controls the FN hotkeys basically. It could be stuck in airplane mode, and the Fn keys aren't working correctly to take it out of airplane mode. -
Well i just purchased the ge62 pro-219 from xotic pc on august 15th. It came in today and it is in pretty much perfect condition except that the charger wont charge the battery. It says (plugged in, not charging) while the battery is stuck at 90%. I almost decided to used the battery calibration program but I realized that it would drain the battery so I stopped it immediately. Has anybody else encountered this same problem with their new ge62 apache pro? I read up that these MSI's have a feature that wont charge the battery unless it goes below 95%. My computer was at a 92% charge right out of the box and it hasn't charged up one bit. It dropped to 90% when I was running the calibration program. Can anybody help me out with this? Is something wrong with my ac adapter? Thanks.

Hi. I have a problem. Ever since I've got my Apache Pro (2015 model) I've been getting Machine check exceptions when in games. I don't know if it is a heat issue because it doesn't happen often... I found pressing the "fan overdrive" button holds off the bluescreen, or at least i think it does... But it happens after a while when I'm in a game. My mouse and everything will freeze, then the BSOD will pop up saying to search up Machine check exception. I looked into it with Microsoft's debugging tool and it said something vague about intelppm.sys... I don't think it is a corrupted file either. It is a new computer! I hope this is something fixable. I have a theory it's bad thermal contact (poor heat transfer) between the heat sink and GPU. Because it only has happened while utilizing the GPU.
Another, but less important problem... I've been trying to play GTA V on my laptop, but it can't be played with DX11. I have to use DX10.1 or DX10 in order to play it. I've even reinstalled the nVidia drivers twice (clean install too)...
Please reply if anyone has a clue of whats going on, how to help, how to fix it, or has the same problem. Thanks in advance!Last edited: Aug 18, 2015 -
I've had it since I got mine that it is never at 100%. I'm using mine right now and it is sitting at 96% not charging, and I looked into it. My computer says that my battery is at 11% wear level... And it is NEW! It must be a thing with these types of laptops. I have mine plugged in 90% of the time anyway. Who games on battery? lol
-
After 4 hours of being plugged in and not charging, my ac adapter finally began to work. Its now at 100%. I was real worried that I would need to return it but everything seems all good. Hope your laptop starts charging soon too.
-
also, is it bad to keep the laptop in sport mode all the time? I only play LoL and its not the most demanding game out there. Will sport mode decrease the life of the laptop since its overclocking both the cpu and gpu?
-
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
That is normal with those computers that it will get to a certain point on the battery, then stop charging. It does this to prevent it from over charging and ruining the lifespan of the battery. You'll see it get close up to 99 or 100%, then say it is plugged in and not charging, then start charging again once it gets lower.
Overclocking generally can raise temps on the computer, and heat can cause stress on the internals. I would turn off any type of overclocking unless you are needing it. I don't OC my system unless I'm playing newer games that I need the boost for them. -
okay, thanks. Im definitely not running my computer in sport mode now. I dont really play demanding games (only LoL) so i shouldnt have to worry about performance. What are everyones average cpu and gpu temps under avg load?
-
Has anyone upgraded their RAM? I dislike the fact that mine has 1x8GB meaning it's in single channel, also I would like 16GB anyway. Just wondering if it's worth buying 1866Mhz RAM or is the max speed 1600MHz this laptop will support?
-
Prostar Computer Company Representative
1. It's ideal to keep all of the RAM the same spec and brand.
2. 1866 may technically work, but the CPU's memory controller supports up to 1600. By default, 1866 will run at 1600 on this machine. -
I was going to buy a 2x8GB kit as I never have mixed RAM anyway
Thanks, that's all I needed to know. Might as well save some money and get a 1600MHz kit as the 1866 would be pretty pointless in that case.
Also, I'm wondering if the Samsung SM951-NVMe would be compatible with the middle M.2 PCIE slot? -
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
The computer has an m.2 in it, but it isn't an PCIe m.2, and I don't believe NVMe will work in it.
-
Prostar Computer Company Representative
My pleasure.
Yeah, might as well go that route. It's arguably safer, even, on top of saving a bit of $.
Not sure on the NVMe drive (I suspect it doesn't officially support it). That may be a question for MSI directly. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Also, with better speed and more RAM capacity which will help with applications and overall system performance. -
Hey all, looks like I'm joining the club really soon! My MSI GE62 Apache 276 (Windows 10!) should be delivered today and hopefully everything will be fine. This will be my first gaming laptop and my first time using an OS that's not Windows 7 or Chrome OS....
Is there anything that I should be aware of or do when I get it? Should I do a clean install to get rid of the bloatware or would uninstalling the programs be fine? How do I turn off Turbo Boost? I don't think I'll need it for the games I'll be playing. Would a cooling pad be a worthwhile investment for this laptop?
Thanks
-
Hey and welcome to the club! I don't think there's an awful lot you need to know. I've managed fine without a cooling pad, even playing intensive games like BF4 and GTA V the laptop is cool enough for my liking on my knee, I just position it so that the vents are free. You should be able to disable the Turbo Boost with Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, although I would see how you get along first because if the game isn't stressing the CPU much it wont even need to use Turbo Boost.
Mine came on Windows 8.1 and I was fine with the original install, the bloatware isn't too bad at all to be fair. I just removed Norton and a couple of other bits, the rest is all MSI stuff and the majority of it you will need/use. I did find the original install took up a huge amount of SSD space though. Since installing Windows 10 I have about 20GB MORE available with the same things installed!
I looked in the manual and it says the middle M.2 port is PCI-E, and I would think the ACHI version of that SSD would be compatible from what I can see.
I think I may have to ask MSI, although as said above there is always the ACHI version if it's not compatible.
Definitely yes, I was a little disappointed that is has 8GB memory installed in single channel, in reviews it shows how much of a difference it makes and it's a fairly big difference.PillowHime likes this. -

Uninstalling the unwanted apps are fine.
You may miss out some MSI experience by doing a clean install.

Hey guys this might sound really bizarre but when I run my fingers on the aluminum parts of my ge62 (on AC power) i feel a slight tingling electricity sensation running thru my fingertips. Of course when I unplug the laptop this stops. Could this possibly be my faulty surge protector or outlet? Has anyone experienced this before? I read up that this happens specifically with only unibody laptops but I'm just wondering if I should be worried about this? Could it also be that my AC adaptor is leaking electricity?

Someone said, that the battery is protected against fast wear by not charging to its full capacity sometimes. It has something to do with hybrid power as every time i play a game it stuck between 90 and 100% charge. If you want it to charge, discharge the battery to something lower like 80% or 70% then if you won't play when it is charging it should charge to its max. capacity.
The wear lvl is not really any proof of real wear thx to this "battery protection". Lets say you would have 100Wh battery and this protection would stop charging at 95%. Although you know, it is done by this protection, the app does not. It thinks it is full so it thinks, that your wear is 5% because it can charge only to 95Wh.
I would recommend you switching to Comfort Mode. You won't notice a difference except for lower temps. Sport mode won't dmg you computer, it is not running at max. speed all the time. Sport mode only ALLOW the hardware to reach its full power when it is necessary, but for LoL it is absolutely useless
.

Could be a grounding issue somewhere on the inside of the computer. Have you tried a different wall outlet at another part of your house, on a different fuse if you can. -
Hi guys! Quick question about this laptop. Just got it today and while watching youtube/downloading Win10, I noticed the fan is both very loud and only the rear left fan is running? I feel no/very little air flow from the rear right fan. Is this fan only responsible for the GPU cooling and thus not on while I'm not gaming? Thanks.
-
That's correct, while browsing and watching youtube etc, you'll be using the onboard GPU, so the fan remains off as little to no heat is being produced from the nVidia GPU.
You might want to monitor in task manager what is using the CPU to see if something is running causing it to get hot and for the fans to speed up. Sometimes things like windows update running in the background can cause this. -
The rear left fan is for your cpu if im not mistaken. The nvidia chip uses optimus technology which switches between the cpu integrated graphics and the cards graphics to keep temps down. Once you start running a game or something like that your rear right fan (gpu fan) will turn on. If you press the coolboost button to the left of your power button, both of your fans will turn on full blast to make sure your computers temps dont get too out of control.
-
is it bad for the computer if continue to leave my computer plugged into this outlet? pretty bummed because its the outlet in my room. Ive done some research on this and it seems to happen alot of unibody aluminium laptops such as macbookpros. Ive read that it isnt harmful but i could be misinformed.
-
It's the inducted power frequency from the adapter, I would try another outlet since it could be very possible that the outlet's 3rd prong is not properly grounded.
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
If the issue is the wall outlet then it would not be good to keep it plugged into there. You could get a small UPS to see if that helps. -
i just tried plugging it into an outlet in the newer section of my house and it stopped. Im guessing all of the outlets in my room are old. What is a UPS? im already using a surge protector but that still doesnt fix the problem. Is it really bad for me to keep it plugged into the old outlets? if so im just going to move the laptop into my living room. Such a pain but i want to make sure this laptop doesnt get damaged in any way due to my outlet problem.
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Glad to hear you're figuring it out. A UPS is an uninterruptable power supply also known as a battery back up. They are usually used for desktops but you can get a small size one for your notebook. It will also work as a surge protector. But the battery backup will also supplies a constant power for when you don't get enough power vs too much. -
I got my GE72 Apache-264 but the keyboard is backlit only by a single color (white). It was (falsely) advertised as a multi color backlit keyboard. Is there a way around this or am I just stuck with this? :/

Goto Steelseries control panel or a key near power button to launch the software. This allows you to control the color.

Almost all MSI models are going to have the RGB keyboard, a blue keyboard (for the barebones series), or no back light at all (for GP Leopard models typically or like the CX61). So you should have that option there if it is showing up as white. Just check the Steel Series Engine to make those changes.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Where did you see multi color backlit keyboard?
Because it says on the spec page from newegg's website, under Input Device and under Keyboard.
> Steel Series Gaming Single color Backlit 102 keys
Only premium GT/GS have multi-color backlit keyboards. -
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
I stand corrected, I apologize about that. I was thinking that one had the RGB, as a good amount of GE models do have that. But that is confusing how the picture shows the RGB but the specs say otherwise on there.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
No worries, it happens to all of us sometimes.
And yes, the picture can be misleading sometimes. -
Yes I have MSI GE Series GE72 Apache Pro-077 from newegg. Sorry I guess I didn't check his specs correctly.
