So I picked up my new GS63VR today and the high pitch is unfortunately still there. After a few hours of gaming (excellent gaming laptop btw) I didn´t really notice the high pitch anymore.. maybe you get used to it over time.. So if you can learn to live with it or play medium demanding games that wont constantly fire up the fans, the gs63vr is excellent laptop.

On the other hand.. Razer just announced tonight (20.10.16) that the new Razer blade & Stealth will hit the EU market and is available right away + Core coming out before christmas so I might just get the Stealth and game from home with the Core.. :)

Keep in mind games will be bottlenecked by that dual-core low-voltage processor on the Razer Blade Stealth. I would honestly recommend you just get the full Razer Blade and keep the Core in mind for a bit later. The quad-core 6700HQ bottlenecks even the GTX 1070 so I feel the the Razer Blade's stock config is a better buy than the Stealth.

The Razer will get quite hot and loud as well, and may come with its own issues. I believe the quality control is better than the MSI though.

Mine was slightly higher pitched sound the first day, and I panicked a bit. But after a couple days it seems to have gone away. Now it just sounds like a small fan.

AA is Anti-Aliasing, which, depending on the type of implementation being used, can be very GPU intensive.

Thank you! I actually just found a forum post on the wow forums that say to reduce rendering in advanced setting to 100 instead of 200 and now I have ultra settings and 60+ fps.

I have purchased the GS63VR in France (MSI GS63VR 6RF(Stealth Pro)-020XFR) and can also confirm that the screen I have is a Samsung.
(I can't check the model number right now as I don't have it with me, but I do believe it's the Samsung 156HL01-104 (SDC324C), which is the one on the Asus GL502VT, the Asus Zenbook Pro UX501VW and the Asus G501VW).

If you would like me to check anything, please ask.

Tempted to pick up this laptop from Microcenter to take advantage of their warranty vs. dealing with MSI. I pre-ordered and cancelled said order for the new Razer Blade. Initial reports show severe CPU throttling and their support looks to be awful. I can't even select the 2 year warranty option on their site when ordering. I emailed customer support about cancelling the pre-order which went fine, but the representative couldn't even put together a coherent English sentence. I can't justify dropping $2000 on the Blade.

Those who have the GS63VR- my only sticking point is the power button on the side of the laptop. Can't believe MSI did that. Are you guys having problems with the laptop powering on while in your bags at all?

This laptop nails all my requirements, I have a desktop and would use the laptop for work and only occasional gaming when away from home. I also like that this laptop has 2 exhaust fans for the GPU, I don't think I've seen this in any 15" laptop I've come across lately.

I haven't really heard anybody complain about this after getting one of these systems. Try to just put that side of the laptop facing up when you put it in your bag, maybe to avoid any accidental button pressings when you set it down.

The button is pretty flush and it takes a little effort to push. It's not an easy one to accidentally press.

May as well pick it up at the price. It has its issues, but the CPU and GPU will run a few degrees cooler than the Blade and the design of the body of the laptop keeps the keyboard deck cool, which is important.

Also, the power button does not work when the laptop is closed.

It's true that the laptop does heat up quite a bit while doing some heavy lifting. I played BF1 with the laptop on my knees last night and I had to put something to protect me from the heat.
However, when not under load it's perfectly fine. Given I don't game much at all I'm fine with it.

No worries for the laptop powering on when closed, as@montobrah mentionned.

Overall very happy with the GS63VR.

One question though: I did a clean install and it can't detect the webcam, and I can't see it in in the Device Manager. Any tips?

Press FN + F6 to connect the webcam, again to disconnect.
Once it's connected, you can use any webcam software to use it.

I tried using Fn + F6 and it doesn't work. As if the webcam was not connected to the computer or anything.

Open up device manager, observe for Imaging devices, if it's not there then press Fn + F6 only once and see if it shows up there.
Note that Fn + F6 does not launch any kind of webcam software.

I have the same problem, and it's awful.
I tried playing an online game (GTA Online) and it barely works: I find myself disconnected or alone in a session (meaning that it took too long to connect to a session) almost all the time making the online game unplayable.

    Did you solve it?

Has anyone tried to upgrade the RAM to 32GB? I'm thinking of using Kingston 32GB Kit (2x16GB) 2400MHz DDR4 CL14 SODIMM HX424S14IBK2/32.

Curious for anyone with this machine (or any with a 6700 and 1060) have you guys tried playing CSGO on the laptop? If so, what kind of FPS do you get on Dust 2 and what settings are you using? I have everything set to low except texture detail and I get about 200-220 in CT spawn on Dust 2 and ranging from 150-250 or so depending on the map I'm playing, where I am or what's going on. Curious if this is normal or what's to be expected or if other people are having better performance as I am currently getting better performance out of my 17inch AW and figured this new laptop would run everything better. Temps on my machine (Razer) are only maybe 75 degrees after a full game of CS so I don't think it is thermal throttling. Just looking for peoples input with other machines with the same specs and how they are performing.

I have a lot of games, not sure what the best is to try and test with. I have GTA V installed right now, in the process of downloading 3dmark benchmarks to run when I get home from work. I do not have BF1 but I have Battlefront, Battlefield 4 as well as other various games. It just seems like the ones I've seen mentioned the most are Doom 4, Witcher, and BF1 now and I do not currently own any of those on PC.

I'm surprised so few people seem to have CS :O, it's the primary game I play so it's the most important to me to have running as fluidly and well as possible which is why it was the first and only thing I've really been able to test in the past 24 hours. If I cannot find anyone with the game and a 6700HQ/1060 laptop I'll buy it for someone for 7 bucks or whatever or let someone use one of my steam accounts with CS to test it if it comes down to it lol. Absolutely want to, and willing to test and compare other games but this one is definitely my main concern.

If there are any specific games you have in mind for me to look into testing or what not let me know.

Out of curiosity, what's the point in having 150+ fps in a game?

Well as I mentioned I have a 144hz monitor, if you are not running above 144fps you are not getting the most out of the monitor and the refresh rate. On top of that, in my opinion the game feels smoother the more FPS you have, regardless of what type of monitor you have. Again, this is 150 fps on one specific map which is considered to me the main staple map of the game if you have ever played CS before. There are other maps that have been updated and refreshed and have other things going on in them and a lot of them do not run as smooth as that one main map. So yes, while going down to the 150 range may not immediately cause an issue on that one map if you are not using a 144hz monitor as I do sometimes, a lot of other maps do not run as well. So that 150 dip might turn into 150 max on another map and dip down to 100 or lower. When you are playing a competitive game you want the full on best performance out of the game, all the time no matter what is going on.

Hi everyone I have a problem that I have not seen...
Using external monitor via HDMI as a single display everything gets really choppy in windows, even play a movie.
Using the external monitor as duplicated or extended mode works perfect.

I have tried: different monitors, different hdmi Cable, different people resolutions, different drivers... With no luck. Even setting only the Gpu active nothing changes.. If I unplug the monitor everything is back to normal...

Just got a GS63VR 6RF a couple of days ago. Experienced the mouse stuttering issue straight away. Changed the background setting to picture instead of slideshow, and that made a big difference to the stutter. I've only just changed the setting, so can't comment on how often it is happening now. But it is definitely a heap less than when slideshow was the background.

I'm planning to install a fresh copy of windows on it. Just want to ensure that I don't end up deleting the recovery partition. My laptop has a 256 GB SSD and a 1 TB HD. Both have a recovery partition, and the main SSD partition (where windows is installed currently) has a folder named "Recovery" which is about 5 GB in size. If during windows installation, I choose to format this partition, will I lose the ability to do a system recovery in the future ?

I don't understand why recovery data is spread in different places. One is a separate partition on the HD which is around 17 GB, then one partition on the SSD which is around 900 MB and another recovery folder on the main partition. How should I do a fresh install without disturbing the recovery partitions ?

See attached file for disk info.

    Thanks!

To be honest, you might as well delete it. I've tried to preserve it in the past, but the reality is it's a major pain to get it to work properly and I always just redo a clean install again anyways, before I sell. As long as you have a Windows install usb and access to the drivers, the recovery partition is pretty much useless.

An alternative is to create a recovery USB, if you really want to have it. Those have always worked fine for me.

Yes, I created a recovery USB. That should be sufficient.

By the way, after installing windows, should I let windows download all the drivers (someone in this thread said it worked) or should I download them from MSI's website and install manually ?

you can let Windows do most of the work, but you'll need MSI for their software + the audio drivers. I think you'll need their Trackpad driver to although any elan driver will work

Anyone else having problems with the spacebar?
Mine doesn't work let's say once every 10 times, specially if pressed on its right side. It's the second model I try which has this issue, don't know what to do...

I'm having a hard time using the touchpad for precision pointing. For example, if I have to move the cursor from one corner to another, it is quick and smooth. But when I try to move the cursor to a specific button or link, it's very difficult to get the cursor at the correct position. It either stops before or shoots past the point I want it to be at. Similarly, moving the cursor for a short distance (say 3-5 mm) is very hard. It either doesn't move or moves so much that I have to bring it back.

Is there a way to fix this?

Edit: The cursor feels "heavy" to control through the touchpad. It also seems to stutter when moving short distances.

I have the exact same issue and on the right side. I am just training myself to hit it harder. Might be that since the keyboard is off to the left due to the num-pad, that I am not hitting it hard enough. Just a thought.

Those that bought gs63vr 01 from Best Buy, is the display really that bad compared to gs63 bought from amazon/newegg? How's the wifi card?, heard intel version is garbage compared to killer.

Some like Intel better than others. I would say Intel's driver and software are mature and stable, and Killer focuses on gaming optimizations.

Is there any way to turn off keyboard lighting when the system goes idle for some time ? When I'm watching movies at night, I don't like the lights turned on. So far I've been turning it off from steelseries software but that's inconvenient to do again and again.

I wish there was some mechanism which will turn off the lights if I haven't used the keyboard for say, 30 seconds. And then turn it on when I press any key. This was there in my old VAIO laptop.

If not an automated mechanism, is there any shortcut key that can be defined to toggle the lights ?

I managed to break one of the tabs on hinge cover for my GS63VR laptop when I was switching out a hard drive. I have searched high and low for a place to buy a replacement hinge cover (without the tab, it does not sit flush and the look of it is driving me crazy.)

Does anyone know where I can get replacement parts specifically for this laptop?

I'd shoot an email off to MSI directly with pictures of the broken piece and where it was located in the system exactly. That way they can be sure to get you a direct replacement and worst case scenario you get a part number to continue your search with.
