The mustard colour and 48Hz lock issue is only for a specific Samsung panel. Any laptop with that panel like the Asus UX501/G501, Lenovo Y50-70 and many others will have the same issue.

1080p screens do not have this issue at all don't worry. :)

I am having random brightness issues, even when I adjusted the power plans under control panel. The brightness changes to random numbers when laptop goes to sleep for example... Anyone seen these issues?

So, after using this laptop for a week or two since I last posted, I recalibrated the display, however that didn't help the mustard yellows much.
I also had a problem from upgrading to windows 10 from windows 8 that I was getting reverb, I was able to fix it. This problem is caused by Nahimic which automatically adds on a bit of reverb, and since I switched to windows 10, the version of nahimic was not compatible with win10, therefore I could not change any settings. The simple and easy fix is to just go to the driver page for the model which you are using and download the "audio+nahimic".

Also, I'm having a problem where when I upgraded to win10, file browser is painfully slow to start up, and MSI shift no longer works, even though I tried updating MSI gaming center. Anything on that?

Also, don't put this laptop down too fast and don't even THINK about dropping it, especially on the rear of the laptop.

Chazra - Your mustard yellow problem is not going to go away. This is an issue with the RGB-Pentile Screen of Samsung which is also used in Asus UX501/G501 as well as Lenovo Y50-70. This specific 4k screen has a refresh rate of 48hz and since it is an RGB Pentile type screen it also has the problem of yellow.

In short, calibration is not going to help and you will have to live with the same screen. This problem does not exist in any full HD screen, it is unique to Samsung SDC434B display panel.

What about the power saving mode in shift?
EDIT: Not working for me when plugged in either. Are you running windows 10?

Yes, I did realise that it wouldn't work, but it still made the display look cooler :)

    Literally and figuratively.

    Yeah, I'm using Windows 10.

Have you tried changing it directly in Dragon Gaming Center under Device Setting?

Yep, the shift function button does not work and the shift section does not appear in the dragon center. For extra stats, I am using the Broadwell variant of this laptop.

EDIT: I have not updated most of the firmware, so I am downloading some of the firmware updates, I think SCM may do it.

I updated my SCM, boot config, and battery calibration (which I doubt has anything to do with it) And lo and behold, it appeared in MSI dragon gaming center and the shift function key works.

    Hey all,

Almost about to pull the trigger on this laptop, have a question for the owners. Is that shield/dragon logo on the lid glued on? Is it possible to easily take it off?

I'd like to replace it with a sticker to make it more custom, wondering if the light behind it is carved into the dragon shape or just a bulb as well.

Has anyone else experienced a two finger scrolling issue of not being able to reverse the scrolling after updating the ELAN trackpad drivers from the MSI site?

I updated the trackpad driver yesterday because of a weird instability on windows 10 where the trackpad would move and be able to click things, but only certain clicks would respond (i.e; I could click to open the start menu, and file explores, etc, but I wouldn't be able to click "out" of what I clicked into, sending me down a rabbit hole that could only be resolved by restarting the computer. The issue has only happened twice, but I figured I didn't want it happening again, so I updated the driver with the link on the MSI site.

After updating, the trackpad seemed to work smoother, except two functions were gone: First, the option to reverse two-fingered scroll (scrolling down to bring the page up, scrolling up to bring the page down) , and second, I used to be able to one-finger scroll when one finger was off to the right side of the track pad (as if an imaginary scroll bar was there). Since the update, both have been removed and I've been a bit frustrated looking how to change the elan trackpad options. I was able to find the window ( through mouse properties); however, under "inertial scroll" there is no second box for reverse scrolling, as I have seen in another forum somewhere.

I attempted to search for older drivers, but I can't seem to find any/ don't trust if they will work as well. I also can't restore my computer to an earlier point in time because, for some odd reason, the function was disabled, meaning no restore point was ever saved. I've been trying to get used to it, but I was wondering if anyone could offer and advice/ has run into similar issues.

    Hey guys!

I'm thinking about selling my GS70 Stealth Pro 2PE and getting a GS60 Ghost Pro 4K.

Is this a good time to do it? Or is MSI replacing the model soon?

What can I expect to gain/loose against my GS70 in terms of performance, battery life and heat?

Does Windows 10 deal well with the 4K resolution? If I run it at 1080P I shouldn't get any blurred pixels, right?

    Thanks a lot!

Windows 10 does scaling much better than Windows 8.1. That being said, 4K screens are plagued with issues regarding yellow colour and being locked to 48hz refresh rate. If you're ok with that then go ahead and get the Ghost.

Yup, it has the Samsung SDC434B which is a 4k panel locked at 48hz and has bad yellow colour reproduction. Stay away from 4k for now and you will be fine. You can always go for the FHD Ghost.

Get the GE62 Apache pro then. It is only marginally thicker and heavier than the Ghost but it is an amazing performer. I've had it since a month now and honestly, I have no complaints. I strongly recommend the Apache Pro over Ghost Pro.

Main thing you lose is Thunderbolt between the GS60 (6th gen chips) and the GE62.

The new GS60s are out now with the Skylake chips. I haven't heard if their panels are 48Hz or not. One downside is that 6GB 970m is only available with the 4k version of the GS60.

Yup, these issues have been known for awhile, however it does not deter anyone from getting one since the high resolution helps with certain applications.

And the next month the new model is out, DDR4, and skylake, and if I understood the marketing correctly, faster SSDs and better cooling.
EDIT: Read over the marketing a bit more, cooling seems to be something they just didn't advertise about the old model

I thought it was just the skylake...

Seems like I get the worst luck with laptops, this also happened with my previous laptop : I

the SDC434B 4k screen used in asus ux501 and g501 is not locked at 48hz but at 60hz at 4k resolution - it's not the panel that has these limitations. Does both the y50 and gs60 have these issues, if so they should be fixable :D

    The yellow issue persists...

This limitation or bottleneck came from somewhere in the chain of signal relay...

    Hello everyone,

I just bit the bullet and installed Windows 10 on my GS60 2QE Broadwell. At first I felt the touchpad becomes unusable, but as soon as I installed the Win10 touchpad driver from MSI website, the touchpad now works wonderfully.

I also downloaded VGA drivers and it says I am currently using a newer version, so I chose not to install them.

So my question is, from anyone's experience, is it necessary to install all the Win10 drivers after switching from Win8.1? Or can I be lazy and wait until something stops working?

It's definitely recommended since those drivers were certified to run under WIn10 while older drivers were not.

    Hey Dude!
I just bought this laptop with raid 0 ssd and was thinking to upgrade to Win10. What are your boot times from shutdown and sleep?
Just deciding whether to upgrade or not.(it's brand new so there's no files on it)

Boot times should not be significantly different, they use the same UEFI booting.

My boot time from clicking on "restart" to login screen was 26.86 seconds, although I'm not sure how meaningful this number is to you because my system is configured to AHCI. (Bought it 128gb+1TB.) Compared to Windows 8.1 with the same config I did not notice any difference.

I've noticed several more problems with mainly the software.
When I press the Win+Q function to open up search, sometimes it just loads infinitely, however after a restart, the searching is flawless.
File browser still opens in roughly 5-10 seconds, which is abysmal for the speed of the RAID 0 array,
and the sleep time is ridiculous. Takes a few minutes for me, and my friends troll me by sleeping my laptop while playing games :/
I have to wait 1-2 mins for the laptop to sleep then I can wake it. Are these problems normal, and what may be causing them?
I have seen that on other devices the file explorer also takes quite a while... think it's a win10 thing.

The cold boot time on my gs30 with a pair of M.2 500gb 850 evo drives is around 10 seconds.

SSD speed will depend on the capacity and space left on it.

Anyone on Windows 10 able to see a webcam driver and does the webcam work? Mine isn't working for some reason and the last time I needed it I was on Win 8.1. I might have accidentally disconnected it when opening it but I wanted to see if I could see it in device manager or hwinfo. I can't find it in either.

Is the MSI shift button not working too? If so, then you had the same problem as me. Go to the laptop page for the model you have, click on the service tab, then drivers, *CHANGE THE OS TO WIN10* then download the SCM and bootmanager, one of the two solved the problem.

Hey guys. I have the 5th generation intel gs60 ghost pro with the colorful RGB keyboard, and I saw the newest keyboard with the transparent sides on the keys (newest 6th gen laptop) so I naturally called up MSI and asked them if I could order this newer delicious keyboard. The guy Tom said to me rudely that they cannot do that and I would need to have a serial number for the corresponding laptop for that particular keyboard. Again naturally I dont want to shell out another 1600 dollars for a new laptop just for the keyboard, so I was wondering if the gods that be here in the owners lounge would grace this peasant with the serial number for that keyboard or give me incite on how to order one. I was literally ready to throw my money at them, but apparently the guy was an elitist. Please help...

They need serial numbers because there are so many parts and different model numbers to the point where it would be hard to continue support if mixtures of parts are used. Either way, I'm 99% sure the keyboard is riveted to the palm rest, so it's going to be really tough to get the old one off. You might want to take yours apart first and see investigate.

How well does this run on Mortal Kombat X or Ultra Street Fighter 4? Also, will the 970m version run Street Fighter V max settings 60fps 1080p?

I've taken it apart and it's totally doable with the same layout and ribbon cable. Litterally the only change is in the keycaps for the light which is why I inquired about it. I'm still scratching my head over the fact that the guy was not even interested in trying to find out or help me as a customer. It is a real turn off as a company owner. I guess I will have to just wait for replacment keyboards to be released 3rd party.

I've dealt with him. He's just doing what he's told. The reason why these laptops aren't Apple and razer prices is because they don't invest in things like customer service.

Hi, I just bought the new gs60 ghost pro 4K with i7 6th generation and gtx 970m 6gb
I was playing csgo with 720p resolution, settings in medium, disabled vsync and I'm not getting even 200 fps (using net_graph to check it)
Does any one knows if it's normal?
Does anyone plays csgo with nice fps (I was expecting 250/300 fps) can share the configuration?

    Thank you!

Update all the drivers on the MSI website, then turn off Nvidia batteryboost, it is set to lock it as 30fps by default. Also, 250/300 fps is nowhere what you will get, it will be more like 150-200

Please help! I bought the skyline version of this laptop, when I try to game with the power in the wifi turns off, however if I game with the power out it's fine (ofc the in game performance is not the same).

I have tried changing power management settings etc and nothing helps, I'm thinking that it's a power routing problem, when it's plugged in the increased power consumption of the gpu, cooling etc causes the wireless card to power down momentarily ?

So the skylake model has the 48Hz issue resolved apparently, and now runs at 60Hz.
What about the yellow issue though?

    Does that still exist?

Also the battery is even smaller for some reason :|

Anyone know how to get the Bluetooth on the GS60 Skylake to work? I downloaded the drivers and it can detect my Xperia everytime, but it cant detect my headphones..which is starting to annoy me.
I don't want to system restore it because I JUST finished installing everything i needed...what do i do.

EDIT: Factory Reset it & nothing. Still doesn't detect my headset... I can use a bluetooth dongle but that's annoying seeing as how the laptop already has bluetooth

You should be able to achieve a reasonable amount of frame rates on the games.
There are some titles listed by notebookcheck, see below.
