Check the wireless setting on the router and verify if it's the optimal setting.
Try a different router if you can because this kind of issue is rare.

You might be able to install the driver files through Device Manager.

    1. Open Device Manager
    2. Find the device (under Network adapters)
    3. Right click on the device and select "Update Driver Software..."
    4. Select the "Browse my computer" option, then use the "Browse" option to find the folder with the driver data
    5. Click on Next

Using a .exe file is much simpler, as you can see. Since you installed the Killer Suite, that would have updated any driver data, so you really shouldn't need to worry about this (it's more for future reference).

It seems like I have the same issue with mine. Just got mine yesterday lol. I was playing dota 2 at max settings and it was spiking very so often. I even tried to turn off the major settings but still spikes.

I also have MSI GT60 680M which I don't really have any issue with dota2, I wonder if I should keep the new GS60 or sell it. :\

Use medium settings, then move up from there.
Also, is AC adapter plugged in?

Its probably the APM setting. It shuts the hard drive off almost instantly for some reason on MSI laptops.

I´ve send my Dell XPS 15 back because it was broke and now I´m thinjing about giving MSI a chance.

WHich one of these would you recommend:

    GS60, GE62, GS40

I can get a GS60 for 1750€ with FHD and with 4K for 1800€. How long will the battery last? Are they good Laptops, searching or an allrounder like the Dell XPS 15, but can´t decide between the Asus Zenbook UX501VW or a MSI.

If I were you, I'd take GS60 because of the larger size of screen and better performance when compared with GS40.
    GE62 is entry-level.

Oh man. So I just spent hours doing a complete reinstall, even after preparing the day before with downloading drivers and the like.

I hate that Intel Rapid Mobile Express Chipset Raid Controller....it caused my computer to freeze so many times. It took 2 clean installs to figure that it was the issue. Never again. I assume the standard built in Raid Controller was enough to set up the raid 0 format, as that has worked wonders for me thus far.

Anyone have issues when trying to install any games. I just picked up my gs60 970M and The only issue I have is installing a game. The game will start to install via a launcherpad get about two minutes into the install the then the launcher pad just disappears and I get no warning or message just gone. the game in question is DCUO. I have added the files to the firewall, disable AV, tried to use the event viewer with no luck. I am at a loss.

Are you using the most up to date version of the launcher? Can you try repairing the launcher in the uninstall / change a program options in the control panel?

I'm in the market for a new gaming laptop, and the MSI GS60 Ghost Pro looks like would be a good fit for me, except for it's battery life. Does anybody know of any portable battery packs that could work with this machine? That might help alleviate some of the short battery life issues.

Hello everyone! I have problem with my gs60 6qe. So far this problem accrued 4 times within 10 days+-. I'm thinking back and forth and only idea I have is that only thing in common when this problem accrued is google chrome. I did reinstall it, it did not help. Also if perhaps problem is google chrome, I must confirm that I quite commonly see "owh snap" randomly, when there are few tabs open. Maybe problem with RAM or communication with it? Take a look of those two videos (They are NOT! slowed down or edited in any way). and

    Thanks for ideas :)

@okica11 - The audio issue?- where it sounds kind of mechanical, kind of... evil? (If yes, then are you hearing this problem under any other applications/scenarios outside of Chrome?)

It's most likely the Electromagnetic Interference, what you can test is move the AC adapter or other electronic device away from the laptop just to see if it makes difference.

Something inside the laptop (most likely GPU) or around the laptop (AC Adapter) is draw current generate magnetic fields, it cause sound card to make buzzing sound.

Other things you can try just for testing purpose is run the laptop only on battery and disconnect the power cord from the AC, also try update the drivers.

Since GS60 is a laptop and pretty much all components are soldered, so if the cause are not the AC adapter or other EMI around the laptop then MB replacement is needed.

this guy gets 60 fps with a 970m easy, but when I play DS3, I have to set everything to low, set the res to 1440x900 to get the smoothness. I am just wondering my 970m is broken or what, the fps drop from time to time when I play LoL, now its not doing remotely close to this guys 970m when I play DS3. About the heat problem, I tested it with the same setting that guy had when I booted up my gs60 for the first minute, and I played the game only for less than a minute just try and get the same fps that guy had, so it was not overheating and I got almost 10 fps less than the alien guy and the smoothness wasn't even there. Can somebody please kindly explain this to me, really appreciated.

I poked the hole on the right side, and seems like the problem solved, it hit 55- 60 fps just like the alien guy did at the same place. Already beat the game in 1440x900.

Sorry for late reply! I forgot to mention something important: when this happens whole notebook freezes. I can't do anything other than shut down notebook with pressing power switch for ~5 seconds. I highly doubt problem is mechanic (only thing "mehanic" in pc are 2 fans and HDD) or caused by magnetic fields. This sound is for sure coming out of speakers. Otherwise speakers are working fine.
Until now it didn't happened outside of chrome (I do play some games, do office jobs, watch films and do video rendering).

No worries about the delay. This sounds like a software problem; the audio issue is probably synonymous with the system hanging. You can test each individual program to see where you can reproduce the problem; this might help you isolate the cause. Alternatively, you could just do a factory recovery (back up your data first) and then go from there.

When you say it didn't happened outside of Chrome is that mean it work fine on other browsers such as Edge, IE and Firefox, or you mean you just don't use browser at all?

I agree. I'm 99% sure it is software rather than hardware problem. Factory recovery is in plan, but REALLY as last resort :). I have serious problem reproducing the problem.. It happens so randomly that I have hard time indicating possible causes...

I don't use other browsers. As said before, it's impossible for me to "force" my pc to crash like shown in video. If there would be, I don't know, some strange web pages which would always crash pc I would try them in other browsers for sure :). Thinking back to previous crashes, only thing all had in common was opened chrome, and other background tasks.

Funny thing: week before my post there were 2 crashes in that week. Now, since this post: none.

    I think I will re-install chrome.. AGAIN

Or maybe try another browser before re-install Chrome to isolate the issue.

If you think it was cause by faulty RAM you can try memtest : http://www.memtest86.com/ to see if your RAM is stable.

For GS60, it's too difficult to remove 1 stick of RAM to test.

@okica11 - I really doubt it's Chrome that's your common denominator. Possible, but... if you're going to reinstall it again, try a different version. You can visit any mirror site to see different versions available for download.

I don't know that this will help, but you can try using system cleanup software; something like Ccleaner or Glary Utilities. It's a long shot, but every once in awhile they actually fix something (even though their purpose is aimed at cleaning up "junk data").

Does anyone know what the BIOS and VBIOS updates do? Are they worth installing/is there any risk in installing them? I'm not sure how much I want to mess around if everything seems to be working okay.

They are updated to fixed issues and yes, there are risks since something may go wrong during update causing mainboard malfunction.

I will try memtest86 in near future (maybe tonight). For the past day I have installed this version of Chrome: Version 50.0.2661.94 m . I'm not sure which version did I use but I know that after 1 reinstall I used x64 version of chrome. (current one is x32 as far as I know) . I do use ccleaner regularly, but unfortunately it didn't help :( . The only thing I can do now is to test the RAM and wait for problem, if it appears again..

If anyone have any other idea, don't be shy recommending :p

Thanks for all advices so far!! :)

You really should use Memtest86. They made it so easy to download and use now. Ive both Corsair and Crucial memory sticks die on me and cause all kinds of random issues even after replacing the ram cause something got corrupted. So pleaseeeee check it first. My memtest86 took 14 hours on my GS60 spec.

Also have had CCcleaner cause issues...so thats why I dont really recommend that stuff. Best bet is to download some of the drivers off MSI's website (asside from the horrid Intel Rapid Storage garbage that caused issues for me lol) and make a USB for Windows 10 (Which also is really really easy now thankfully). This will probably the end of your issues as long as your hardware isnt bad. And clean installing is not so much of an issue anyways now.

I would just quickly go offline when desktop logs in for the first time though, to avoid Windows 10 downloading drivers for you. Then download your own from the USB that you made ahead of time.

Also, what do you guys think my GS60 is worth if I sell it?
    Specs are:
    i7 4th Gen - 6GB GTX 970 - 16GB DDR3 1866 mhz - 2x256 GB SSD Raid 0 / 7200 rpm HDD - IC Diamond Thermal Paste

And in very good condition physically. Initially bought it from a retailer for $2.4k with those parts installed from them (Model is 2QE-064)

Apparently there is something wrong in the hardware since system shouldn't just freeze by open Chrome. But it's also common that it wasn't even a defective RAM but the RAM just got loose in the slot.

Update: Right now I had another crash this time active window was MS word 2016 but Chrome was in background with 4 tabs opened (wp page, gmail, school page AND YOUTUBE). Music was playing in this tab (until pc froze). First time now, there wasn't this strange buzz sound and it was first time that I had my headphones on (previous time I used pc speakers). Again, PC was totally "frozen". I tried and unplug power cord, mouse and headphones (everything). Nothing changed. Other things that were running were: file explorer, snipping tool, chrome, word 2016 and connectify. Other programs that for sure run in background are onedrive, dropbox, dragon center, samsung magician, ...

Windows power mode was set to high performance, MSI shift to green.

I haven't had time to check the RAM. I desperately need PC for school work and I don't have other device around me. I will try to test it at the end of this weekend.

Now, my new blame is chrome with youtube opened. Maybe html5 problem? I'm not sure, just guessing.. that's pretty much all I can do at the moment...

I feel like some integral driver could also cause this. Did you try updating any driver in the past week before the issue?

Honestly I don't remember updating any drivers or doing anything special before first ever "freeze". Between 1st "freeze" and the latest one yesterday (4th or 5th I think) I for sure didn't change any drivers (because I know something is causing trouble now.. First I would like to be able to reproduce this problem when I want, then step by step I will try different solutions so I can know for sure that problem is, indeed, solved ;) ) . Only thing I did change in this time is new reinstall of google chrome. :)

Edit: I will immediately stop with testing if someone had same problem and he/she know what was causing it fixed it, I don't know, by updating bios :)

Does anyone have any issues with Chrome? After about 10-15 minutes of usage, Chrome just stops loading any more pages, and when I close it, it refuses to reopen unless I restart the computer.

Also, about 1 in 10 times when I shut it down or restart it, the computer just hangs on Shutting Down and I have to force it to shut down.

I've downloaded and installed all the latest drivers from MSI's website except for BIOS and VBIOS.

I'm a fresh convert from OSX and I'm getting pretty frustrated here. This is a brand new laptop with all the latest drivers!

    Hey everyone
I've had my GS60 for about a year now (haswell 970M version), but lately I've noticed the CPU gets super hot when I'm gaming.
I've undervolted the CPU it a bit, but really not much else it crashes occasionally (I'm running maybe -30mV), it's a bit underclocked, I have it running at max 3.2Ghz on 4 cores.
I also use Silent Option to prevent the fan from stopping when at idle (else it's stopping and starting again all the time), and I also make the fan run at full blast (7000rpm) when it gets hot.
But despite al that the CPU gets really hot (hits 95°C on each core) when gaming on things like GTA 5 or Overwatch.
My laptop does stay in a pretty dusty environment, so maybe that's it, but it still does surprise me that it gets that hot. Is it normal that it is so hot ?

The GPU temps are fine, usually high 70's low 80's when gaming, which follows the dust theory, since the GPU fan really doesn't spin that often.

I'm planning on taking it apart and cleaning it entirely for dust, and probably putting some better thermal compound to help with this once I'm done with my exams.

I am in the market of shopping around for a gaming laptop and MSI GS60 6QE 4K is on the list.

Can someone with 4K screen take a picture to illustrate how bad the screen light bleed is so that I may know what to expect?

I thought the issue with the 4K screen was more the mustard yellow.
That and the fact that 4k on a 15" screen means you have to use the windows zoom, and it can be absolutely horrendous.
Oh and you can't really game at 4k on a modern game with a 970M.

I have a 1080p screen, and without any zoom, things get pretty small already (and I have good eyes).

That's what I thought too, only 1080p panels are affected by the light bleed issue. But I also found some reports while googling about the 4k variant as well. Hence, I wanted to see if any 4K owners can chime in.

I took the plunge this afternoon and ordered the 4k one. Now the waiting game begins!

I have the 1080p version and I think I'm one of the luckier ones to have very minimal light bleed.

Yay, my GS60 6QE was finally delivered yesterday.

To answer my own question about the 4k screen backlight bleed - it's pretty non-existent on my 4k model.

I do have a question regarding fan control. Is there a way to make the fan 1 speed run lower than 2900 rpm constantly? I find it a bit audible at such frequency.

I've looked into Silent Option but it's not working on the Skylake model.

There is a member at the offical msi forum mentioning "Fan Control Tools by Pherein" works on the 6QE but it doesn't allow the user to go lower than 2900 rpm. It's either completely off or 2900 and up.

Does anyone else know a solution to the "fan problem"?
