    Hey people,
I just ordered my MSI GX60 from Newegg yesterday and it should be here in about 2-3 days. I want to know if there is anything I must do out of the box to make it function optimally. If not I will just play and will TRY VERY HARD to give a review. Thank you!

Hey dude windows 8 bios is not locked, it just doesnt show the keys anymore its the same thing as before just hit F2 as soon as you start up the computer.

Also the USB 3.0 drivers can be downloaded, just google AMD 13.1 WHQL SM drivers. Also the USB on the right side of your computer beside the eSATA and audio ports is 2.0 and will work right away. So this gives you a place to load your USB drive with your drivers.

    Cheers!

If you're really worried you can send me a PM and we can have a chat while you're installing windows 7. Its busy season right now so I don't really have time to make a tutorial although if you wait a few days ill be getting an SSD this weekend and ill do a tutorial maybe if I have to fresh install.

I just received my gx60. First impression..it was dam sturdy and and heavy as well. After installing the latest drivers, i cant wait to try those games. Btw my pscheck doesnt work on my win8. But it stays 4 cores on 2.7 ghz all the time during gaming. The only thing i worry is about the gpu temp. It reaches 83 degrees max with the turbo fan. Im afraid it will affect me 7970m's durability. Can anyone suggest any cooling pad? or any other ways? Crysis 2 hardcore all the time 40fps min 30fps lol. Crysis 3 high at the first mission 25fps above with no AA. Sniper ghost warrior 2 max settings 45fps above. Thats all i tried. I need opinions from u guys do i need to change to win7? i dun really like win8 and pscheck doesnt work either. Is there any way to store my win8 on a disc so that i can install it again if anything happens?

PScheck is a scum, so you lucky it did not worked. And when it worked caused me ~20% CPU use in no load situations. Wonder why still so many people bothering with PScrap? The best what you can do is leave your Trinity in it's factory default and will add the Turbo itself according to temperatures and TDP limit...

The reason i use pscheck is that i have the feeling its less stuttering in games if you lock it @2.7GHz. Looks to me that the transitions between P-states is not fully optimized yet and i heard that the 5750M has more P-states so maybe it will be much better then the 4600M. Ebay plz give me a 5750M !! ;)

If i think about it ,change gear in a car has the same idea i guess. Can get choppy if you do it wrong ;)

Has anyone try undervolting the 7970m? the framerates are nice but im worry still about the temperatures. I went max 85 degrees stock clocks no oc and no cooling pad. Any tutorial on undervolting and stable voltage?

That's odd at stock when I was playing crysis 3 I wouldn't go more then 75C, you might want to consider repasting your GPU with some Artic Silver 5 or something.

Also you have to consider on these newer models of MSI the cold air is sucked in from the BACK of the laptop not the BOTTOM as most traditional laptops. So perhaps if you'rs intake at the back is being blocked by wires or close to a wall or air vent etc..

EDIT: Also as far as I'm aware the only way to properly change your voltages is to do a Vbios flash, but IMO I don't mess with the voltages of video cards esp with laptop video cards as they are a pretty penny.

MSI obviously made sure that the design of the laptop could sustain something under operating temperatures at full load or else it wouldn't be on the market and a lot more people would have problems.

EDIT: Considering the MAX operating temperature is 100C you are still fine.

Has anyone gotten GTA 4 to run in win 8 on this PC? Had a real tough time with it, everything else runs perfect. I think GTA 4 is just a horrible port.

I think is a good movement from MSI, Since GT735 (and GX733 refresh) MSI did not offer 17 inch AMD powered notebook, also I think GX60 sales have been good to lauch a new edition. For me, is a good begining to see a (rumored 3 modules) kaveri-powered GX60 and/or GX70...

So, this GX70 is a very welcome Notebook! :)

Do you guys think it's a good idea to get gx60 now? or is it worth to wait and see if gx60 will get a refresh?
Currently there's a deal in australia with 16gb ram free upgrade for $1250 (usual price $1299 with 8gb ram in australia) that will expire on monday...

This news tells me: Success for the MSI AMD Gaming Notebooks. Seems like the number of sales of the GX 60 was high enough, so they continue the AMD Gaming Notebook series.
I hope the succsssor (the GX 70) wont be too expensive, the pricing of the GX 60 would be nice.
I wonder if MSI will release any new Nvidia Gaming Notebooks? Or will MSI replace Nvidia GPUs with AMD Gpus ?
10-20% CPU performance increase is a very good thing, maybe AMD will be able to shorten the performance gap between the I5 and the APU.

Personally, I would wait for the Richland APU refresh and it should also come with 1866 RAM. If GX70s are now out, then GX60 refresh shouldn't be long, or you can upgrade the GX60 with the Richland APU later, but question will be if your 16GB of RAM will run at 1866 later.

I think the refresh may also go with 1600mhz ram but perhaps the unlocked bios will work with 1866mhz as there is an option.

nice find but they must be out of their mind with the price, if you convert it to euro it's around 1350E (1720 USD) !!!, for that you can get an i7+HD7970m bundle easily

But remember, several times Dolar to Euro conversions are close to 1:1; so I think this versión is like 1400 USD when it comes to US.

The Hitman designation is given to the GX60 w/A10 5750M and 7970M with a 1TB 5400 hard drive in South Korea.

There's an early buyer promotion going on that gives a free upgrade to 16GB of Ram and a free copy of the Hitman Absolution game

The price without OS but with VAT is 1,098,000 Korean Won = $998US

The GX70 is expected at the end of April.

Yeah...i am aware of the south korean variant...
But they are planning a Hitman bundle for the rest of the world...Saw the bundle in MSI Australia's Facebook page...
No word of a GX60 with A10-5750m in the bundle for australia...
the bundle only include a dog tag, mousepad and a steam key for Hitman...

What I forgot to mention is that the GX60 Hitman in Korea is without an optical drive.

It has a caddy in the optical bay.

If you want an ODD it's an extra cost option.

Many peeps these days are installing an SSD for their primary boot drive so the 5400rpm is a good choice for the HDD to be used as a storage drive.

The GX60 is selling well here and the GX70 is going to be a good seller as well.

I also forgot to mention that setting the boot.ini options to have two cpu cores then A10-4600m will automatically run both cores at 3.2ghz, but then you lack of course 4 cores. I have yet to try with setting it to 3, setting it to 4 well does nothing obviously.

It does show that they can be stable at 3.2ghz as I ran tera with it for an hour or so, the only problem is the load on just 2 cpu's for TERA is 100% so yeah not a solution....

Anyone else manage to get 3.2ghz x2 and 2.7ghz x2?

Yea i did. It automatically goes up to 3.2 on 2 cores and 2.7 on 2 cores. I have already mention it in my previous post but it seems everyone ignored me ==. Btw i did not use pscheck or any program to lock on my cores. I let the cpu run on default and when its needed especially copying files, it usually stays at 3.2 on 2 cores and 2.7 2 cores. Gaming wise i only see all 4 cores on 2.7ghz

Good thinking to leave Pscheck off and the two core solution is good try. Perhaps you should try more games because not all the game multithreaded, there you should experience some gain with 2 cores on 3.2GHz. Has anyone tried before A6-4400M in MSI GX60?
