Why putting a weaker processor in there?
-
Well technicaly its not weaker. higher minus aka 2.7GHz in stead of 2.3 and same high clock with turbo . I would think it can reach 3.2GHz better due to only 2 cores which is less heat than a 4-core @ 2.7 GHz
-
A6-4400M can run constantly at 3.2 GHz. therefore single threaded games might run faster than with A10-4600M.
By the way MSI GX60 is on sale in Bestbuy, cost $1117. Good deal considering up-gradable up to A10-5750M... -
Yeah seems like we are gonna have to wait for the 5750M but honestly I hope they drop some Extreme Processors like Intel.
-
QFT!
They should already work on these. -
A video on GX60-Hitman in Korean...Did they change the design and material of the front panel? Looks different (at around 1 mins 18 secs)..HTML:

-
Looks the same to me and from a vendor perspective it should be the same. No extra costs for a different enclosure.
Now get that 5750M on the market so whendo a upgrade...! -
Im almost ready to stick this 7970m into a GX740 and but an 840QM or 920XM to get rid of this bottleneck. Almost...!

I've seen the Korean GX60 Hitman(5750M) side by side with the GX60 Ghost(4600M) and they appear identical except for the GX60 sticker on the palm rest.Attached Files:

The GX60 I got from the UK was brushed aluminium on the back with plastic on the lid.

GX60 hitman edition arrived in australia! Comes with A10-5750m...
TECS
Priced at AU$1299...(Same price as the GX60 with A10-4600m) -
how to overclock the 7970m and 7660g without using amd overdive. In msi atferburner i cant control voltage and clock 850mhz is already at max
-
OC on the 7970m in GX60 is pointless with A-10 as cpu. -
Found an interesting phenomenon today. While an external HD was plugged in, (3.5" in a powered enclosure), the mouse plugged in next to it quit responding (logitech m570). This only happened when tranfering files to the laptop. And when i moved the mouse reciever to the other side (by audio jacks) it worked fine. My guess would be too much power drawn by the HD.
-
How about oc the 7660g? anyway i just wanted to know how to oc the 7970m
-
when can we expect to see the GX60 with the 7970 in the USA?
THANKS
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus -
I think you're talking about GX60 with A10 Richland... I think it will arrive US by May or June. Don't know why MSI took so long to give newest products to US...

I am not sure AMD have officially launched the mobile versions yet.......
-
Honestly all this "bottleneck" drama has a much to do with optimization as anything else. If a game is optimized for an AMD system (Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs are good examples). The A10-4600 is more than capable than delivering great performance as long as its well optimized. AMD is far more GPU oriented, and not all PC developers are on board with the way it's set up. Hopefully that will begin to change with the release of the next Xbox and Playstation.
I have no plans on upgrading my processor, I would rather wait for games and drivers to be optimized. One thing I have heard however is that Memory Timing is particularly important for the Trinity APU. I have been looking all over for the best timings for this chip and have been unable to find any information.
Does anyone know what the best memory timings are for this chipset? -
Yes they did on 12th of March. Last year Trinity was launched 1st May and the first laptops arrived to stores around middle June. I believe by the end of April few Richland laptops will be available.
-
I would consider making an a$$ out of you and me by saying getting a 9-9-9-9-28 would be nice, seeing as the default ram that comes with our system is 11-11-12-28...Lower is always better but then you also give up the ability to have 16GB at that timing.
I also understand that CPU heavy games that are not optimized for AMD cpu's are going to suffer on most modern games.
The facts are there though, MOST games people play are not optimized...
MOST laptops are intel dominated CPU market.
Do not take this the wrong way, but AMD needs to realize that the gaming industry is not going to change for the 10 maybe 20% of their users. In turn AMD should consider releasing better stronger mobility CPU's to help their dedicated fans deal with the issues.
Though again its partly our fault for choosing the AMD setup knowing these problems, but then again you can never be certain which games will run and which ones will flop on this APU. Sadly my current game TERA is a flop on this APU

can the amd overdrive work on the windows 7 gx60?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No, you need to use a 3rd party application.
-
A question - will it be possible to ask MSi to upgrade GX60 from A-10 4600m to A-10 5750m APU, so that I wouldn't loose warranty?
-
You dont need to ask msi. You swap cpu without loosing warranty of course you have to do it precisly without damaging something into the notebook.
-
UEFI mode will stuck on the start screen when starting windows 7. so i use legacy mode but it cant detect my hard drive. Any ideas?
-
Windows 7 cannot be installed in UEFI mode unless you have the ability to enable CSM and we currently do not have this option. So installing in legacy is the only option, so you are current in choosing that.
So you're windows cannot detect your hard-drive or your BIOS is not displaying one?
Once you are in legacy mode and you've restarted a few times as I'm sure you have trying to install windows just go to your bios and check your SATA information if it lists a HD then you're fine if not it could be a bigger problem. -
it did list as hard drive and i started as first boot option. But when i boot from legacy mode the killer bigfoot boot agent comes out. After disabling it, it says please enter proper boot device. It worked the first time but now it cant. I think the legacy mode cant boot with gpt hard disk. But it worked the first time.

Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Odd the GX60 can't as I pulled it off with the GT60, have you had a look with the unlocked bios?
-
Yeah sorry to tell you but you wont be able to boot windows 7 on a GPT hd without CSM enabled and well we cannot do that. You're only choice is to switch to windows 8 if you want to move forward with the new UEFI trend, or switch back to MBR.
Although if what meaker is suggesting is true, an unlocked bios might give us the ability to change the CSM to enabled and your problems would be solved.
Although the BIOS suggested here MSI G-Series Unlocked BIOS
Is version 3xx which would only work for GX60's that did not come with windows 8 installed.
Sadly for someone like myself who has the 5xx bios, I rather not create a $1200 paper weight.
In all honesty the only extra you get from UEFI especially on this laptop would be the fast boot on windows 8.
I think you should just setup your windows 7 as an MBR and wait a year or so until its a more globally used standard. -
Chipset driver update : MSI Global â Download Center
-
above driver is win7.
-
I just downloaded this driver and installed it, Win7.
My 3Dmark11 is P4886 on this one. Haven't had much to test games yet.
One thing - I noticed that the A-10 performance Tab is missing in CCC with these drivers.
It might me MSi doing some tweaks in the driver to improve A-10 utilization... at least that is m initial guess. -
Is this different to 'AMD Mobility Catalyst 13.3 Beta3', I'm a bit confused....
-
Seems different, there is no CPU "Performance" Tab in CCC in the MSi version.
-
IMO I trust AMD more then I trust MSI to be up to date with their drivers, I just use the 13.1 WHQL SB drivers for our chipset and the 13.3Beta3 drivers for video and everything works flawlessly.
-
Placed an order for GX60 Hitman Edition (with A10-5750m for australia)! Should arrive by end of the week...can't wait!
-
Be sure to run some benchmarks for us
. Really wondering the users results between 4600 and 5750 and not those msi graphs.

Need some advice about my BIOS.
So, I recently bought this laptop, which had Windows 8 on it. I've now installed Windows 7 on it, Ive installed all drivers etc. and its working great.
However on boot I notice that it never shows POST information. It just shows the big-foot options for a few seconds, then loads windows. No POST.
This leads me to think that I should update/flash my BIOS since I'm now running Windows 7 on it. Am I correct? Do I flash using W7 or W8 firmware?
BIOS Version E16KAMS.509 -
hello all
I had decided to def get myself a GX60 now after looking for sometime on what laptop to get MSI have obviously
just announced there GX70 / GX60 refresh model.. which has left me a little torn.
some info here would be great if you dont mind as iv keeped an eye on this thread, also searched google every
day for this info with no luck as of yet....
1. Does anyone have any idea on release dates for the UK? both the gx70, and the new gx60 with 5750m
2. Any idea on prices on both models?
3. Is it worth waiting? i have the money ready to purchase a gx60 now! but not sure whether to wait.
Many thanks guys and girls in advanced. -
Isnt that turned off in the bios ? I dont think there is a new bios but if u plan on changing it use the w8 version since thats the os which came with your laptop
#btw 509 is newer than the bios on the website those are xx8 version -
Yeah if you bought your GX60 mid / late December you will have the latest bios on it 509.
Also if its working just fine why would you think no post would be a problem? To even get into an operating system or do anything you have to past POST regardless just because it does no beep anymore doesn't mean it isn't working.
Do not worry my friend things are perfectly fine with your machine!
1. Not sure
2. More then the GX60?
3. Its always work waiting in the technology world. -
Does anyone use thier GX60 for Photo Editing? I'm seriously considering one because it seems its basic spec would be excellent for gaming (Football Manager, Civilization 5, Hearts of Iron, Company of Heroes, BF3) but I really want something thats going to be faster than my 3 year old desktop PC for Photoshop.
-
Thanks a mil guys, I can relax now
For some reason I thought that something might be wrong if it wasn't showing the POST screen etc.
-
1. Dates, I think GX60 ("hitman") will arrive between next 2 months. GX70 after this...
2. Prices, I think lauch Price of new GX60 will be the same of the old one. GX70, off course will be more expensive, and it depends of the new equipment (Backlit keyboard, SuperRAID, bigger screen, new GPU...)
3. Waiting could be a double-edged sword, I'm in the same dilemma, but new GX60 will come only with a refreshed APU (and a new alluminium back), GX70 will arrive late and more expensive, and... also you must remember 3rd generation APU will arrive by the end of the year and it seems GX series came back to stay, so... a Kaveri GX60/70 seems very interesting... Waiting in tech World could mean no close purchase... hahaha.
So, is your choice, anyway you can change the 4600M to the new 5750M...
.........
Anyone has tested a GT60 steelseries backlit keyboard in your GX60? I'm very interested on backlit keyboard, I want the GT60 one, but not sure if it will work perfect on the GX60... Anyone knows? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well it's very cheap to do this refresh so I wont be surprised if the jury is still out.
-
Did u install the windows 7 in a gpt or mbr hard drive?
