u should also consider surrounding temperature. After 4 hours of gaming under constant 99% im sure i would reach higher than 77 degrees. Those cooling pad only helps in not reaching that max temperature that quick.

I play on notebook graphics since 2006. I had 7600go, go7900gs, 8800gtxsli, 335mgt. As far as I know all these cards are still work to date . With the exception of 8800 where we had a known flaw. Even 7600go and go7900gs with the same defect operate till today. Imho everything under 85C is safe for a gaming machine like GX60 . Consider whether a gaming notebook is a good idea for you if you are so afraid about the temperature that you do not use a dedicated card .
-
Not that i dont use. Its just that in less demaning games I just dont want to use the dedicated graphics card. Anyway, thanks for telling me your experience. I'll keep an eye on my temperatures
-
I also thank you for your previous help in my problem with monitoring the temperature of 7970

Any 2.5" SSD will fit just fine they are all made to standard, the caddy comes standard with the non SUPER raid models.
-
Mine comes like this pic http://forum.notebookreview.com/att...al-msi-gx60-owners-lounge-img_8207._sized.jpg Do i need a bracket and the cube thing to fit in the ssd?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The cube is to dampen HDD vibrations, the bracket should be in the box, otherwise contact your reseller.
-
any idea how it looks like? Is the bracket a standard bracket or the bracket is specialised for only msi and can only purchase in msi?
-
.After two weeks , i have the next conclusions about GX60 in many games
NFS Most Wanted - Unplayable ( FPS all time under 25fps )
Crysis 3 - Unplayable , only playable in lowest settings , about 25-30 fps.
Assins Creed - Unplayable in all settings , about 10-19 fps
Sleeping Dogs - Playable . about 28 fps in ultra settings
BF3 - Very Playable , about 35-50 fps in ultra.
Far Cry 3 - Playable , about 29 fps in ultra settings.
Tomb Raider - Very playable in ultra
Medal Of Honor Warfirghter - Very Playable . about 30-40 fps in ultra.
I'm pretty repented , i did not expect that the bottleneck was so huge -
Power of AMD, lol.
But for real, those games in upper part of your list are in reality the actual handful of games witch do not work well on GX60. Many other games play very nicely on GX60 - Diablo III, Bioshock Infinite, Black Ops 2, Skyrim ect. (I know, because I tested them myself). -
Crysis3 runs fine for me on Ultra as long as I go easy on the AA.
-
Yeah Ill say I've had to quit two games because my GX60 cannot handle them
RIP Tera & GW2
Not that I don't love AMD but in the future ill stick with an intel CPU and an ATI video card, the options for increased CPU power are endless with intel it might be expensive but atleast we have the option...where as AMD well you're screwed.
It is a standard bracket it will look exactly like the bracket holding your HDD together, Meaker is right the cube is for the HDD. -
And yet there are probably a whole lot of people in the world that play those games on lesser hardware than you have, so maybe you really need to look at your settings again.
And others that posted before you had no issue playing Crisis 3. -
WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
If Crysis 3 3 doesn't work or work well then what's going to happen when trying to play Metro:Last Light when it's released on May 16th that's even more demanding?
-
Crysis 3 is playable on high. The laptop struggles most is at welcome to the jungle at that part where you can see the whole far view on the grasses and min 17fps steady and when i started moving, it goes down to 13 fps. But other than that in other missions, its playable. See my video here Msi GX60 gameplay "Crysis 3" 7970m 13.3beta3 - YouTube
-
I don't agree about Diablo 3 . I play it myself and it cant get a steady 60 fps , drops below 30 on multiplayer games with lots of spells. I can't say anything about the other games because i don't have them
-
This is not a laptop for everyone. It was clear almost from the beginning that the games that require powerful processor , and almost all multiplayer games will not work well on the GX60. I knew all of it ( about problems with NFS , AC III , GW 2 etc ) and still wanted the GX60. I do not play Crysis , ACIII or MP games . NFS yes , but only Shift and Shift 2 , and it works very well . Just like most other games which checked till now .
I'm not disappointed because I knew what to expect . I still believe it was a great choice for the price .I also hope that a lot of games in the future will work well for GX60, at least at medium settings
.

Is it possible to clone my partition C in hdd to the ssd installed on the notebook without taking it out from the notebook and connect it with a sata cable? And after cloning reformat my hdd partition C?
-
Diablo III drops to 30-40 fps on many rigs, even most powerful ones, witch is why they capped the max player count to 4. Diablo III has bad engine and it wouldn't handle 8 wizards spamming spells on the screen.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread somewhat but looking for some advice.
Just purchased this machine off amazon for £705 (including cashback) which I think is an awesome deal! It plays all the games I'd like to play (Bioshock Infinite, Skyrim, Crysis 3 and BF3) at relatively high settings if not maxed out.
My only worry is that I'd really like to play Elder Scrolls Online when it is released and based on what I have read in the thread this laptop doesn't fare too well with some MMO's. I'd almost rather be able to play every game at reduced settings with an i7 + 660m than play some at ultra and some not at all, which I imagine is a dilemma that a lot of people are facing when wondering whether to buy this machine.
I'm willing to overclock/upgrade if that would help things but from what I understand those kinds of games are CPU hungry
Please shed some light if you could.
Thanks -
From what I've read on this thread and seen in youtube videos the system is gimped by the AMD APU. Overclocking only goes so far, and even upgrading to the newer APU, if possible only seems to gain a couple FPS in games. I'd say you'd be better off with an i7/lower GPU combo, or save up and shell out a few hundred more and get yourself a fully spec'd machine that will last.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well typically because of the huge gap, the GX will outperform a system with an I7 and a lower GPU even when held back by its CPU, the newest CPUs will help alleviate that a little.
-
Even in MMO's? If that's the case then awesome

These are for desktop or mobile versions of GPUs?

You're better off doing a clean install with a SSD drive. You can clone with both drives connected inside the laptop. You can use a program called CloneZilla or many others that do the same thing.
I've had many people come to me with problems after cloning their C to their new SSD and not getting proper speeds or other problems. To be honest you're better off doing a fresh install to save yourself a headache in the future. -
Guess not for mobile 7970m in GX60. I installed these 13.4 WHQL and it gave me non certified error at reboot and driver doesn't work. Got back to 13.3 beta3 -
These have a support list, only 5000 mobility drivers stick with 13.1 WHQL or 13.3b3
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes though look out for the latest cpu versions as they will help with those especially. -
But those save games i have.....and all the settings i've set is gone. Anyway thanks, do you know how to connect back 2 partitions without losing any files?
-
I need more information on your situation...
Size of the SSD, Size of the HDD? Partitions on HDD you want to move and their size
You can save your game settings its not hard but I understand your situation, you might look into making a custom windows 7 install disk with all the programs and drivers you want and settings. This would make a great excuse for you to do this. -
where did he get it from?
-
I wanted to transfer all my existing files(clone) to my new ssd but only the C partition. After that i want to reformat my Hdd partition C and reconnect back to my partition D. Is it possible to do so?
-
It is very possible, have you used any of these programs before? I take it English is not your first language?
In terms of clonezilla you can clone individual partitions from drive to drive, the safest way is to setup your HDD partition table to just have your system partition and C drive and then use Clonezilla to make an exact copy of your HDD.
Cheers! -
Yeah my first language is cantonese. Let me explain in detail. I have a 750gb Hard drive that comes with stock. I made 1 partition called D and the original partition is C. C stores os and programs. D stores all games. I bought a SSD recently and i plan to transfer ALL of my programs with OS in partition C to the SSD. Is it possible to do so after installing the SSD in to the notebook and never opening the bottom cover to connect with a sata cable? After transfering, is there 2 selection on my boot menu? (The hdd and the other SSD) How can i differentiate between these two? Next, I know i have to reformat my HDD partition C so that the files wont mix up. Lastly, how can i make 2 partition from the HDD (C and D) into 1 partition without erasing my games in partition D?
-
It is looks like 7970 is not supported http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...-official-amd-catalyst-13-4-whql-drivers.html
-
Alright so you don't own an external drive to backup your D partition?
Please correct me if I am wrong....You want to make an exact copy of your system + C partitions to your SSD. You will then delete your system partition and C partition and re-size your HDD to only include the D partition.
If that is the case this will work for you.

So what do we think? For a $1175 I can pick this up, and highly contemplating it. Its basically going to be used for some gaming, like starcraft 2, command and conquer red alert 3 and some occasional other games. Like mass effect 2 and 3 as well as a few other fps. It would be mostly for all single player games, anything really demanding I would use my desktop for.
Also, how hot does this machine get? Im really close to ordering from Amazon right now, but still afraid to bite. Ive been debating between a few, but figured for what im going to be using it for, this value cant be beat. -
It is not a bad deal, but I would hold out for the Hitman GX60 with the 5750m it should be out here in NA in a month or so. It is a great machine for single player games, I've personally played Tomb Raider & Bio Shock with basically max settings without any problems.
I also played Crysis 3 Beta and had zero problems with it also, aside from that I haven't played any demanding games...RA2/SimCity4/SniperElite
I will comment that MMO games like TERA & GW2 do not run as nicely on higher settings because of the CPU but also the lack of optimization on the developers side.
All the games you mentioned will work fine, hell I played starcraft 2 on max settings with my GX740 and it had no problems the GX60 blows the GX740 out of the water.
If I was in your shoes and already had a powerful gaming desktop, I would bite the bullet and wait a month or so to see the prices of the 5750m GX60. -
Maybe I will. Either ill wait and hope for a price drop on the old model or ill just end up buying it haha. How much of an improvement is the new model? Thanks!
-
I bought mine in December for $1150 so it should drop soon? The new model has a 10-15% improvement in CPU power and a strong iGPU, you can force 3.2ghz on all four cores I believe so 500mhz across the board increase~18.5%. Well plus the free hitman game also bonus!
Also the Richland platform, which will increase battery life over the 4600m -
Cool thanks. But overall you are happy with performance and results?

From the quick 5 minutes I've looked this up, they are exactly the same as 13.3b3 expect for 7990 support 13.4 is newer
-
Im happy with it for sure, though I've kinda my hardcore gaming so I rather the 1200$ but when I do play games it works wonderfully.
-
But this needs a sata cable. Mine i ask msi to install the ssd to prevent warranty void. So after installing in it i cant take it back out to connect it with a sata cable. You know what i mean?
-
Okay, but tell me how should I install it ? Should I choose an express uninstall and install ? I ask because I have the drivers from the MSI website http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GX60-1AC.html#/?div=Driver&os=Win8 64 and it says that it also comprises the chipset driver - I'm not sure how to install it correctly. This is my first experience with Radeon - can you help?
-
You're warranty wont be void if you open it up, unless you decided to scrap a screw driver all over your motherboard.
