If you're not very tech savy you can just install these drivers ontop of the old ones, do a custom installation and it will tell you what items are up to date and what are not and it will then install stuff that needs to be updated.

As much as people talk about removing all traces of the old drivers you will be fine updating to a newer driver especially if this is your first upgrade.

If you're worried use the ATI uninstall manager reboot, check for any signs of AMD/ATI delete them reboot.

    Install 13.4 Display Drivers, Reboot.
Install 13.4 SB Drivers, Reboot. AMD Chipset Drivers
    Install 13.4 Caps, Reboot.

It is there for the reason I stated above, I've owned 4 MSI laptops over the years all with stickers on the bottom and never had a problem with warranty ever.

Infact they just instructed me to open up the bottom and ship them my HDD that is failing, do not be so worried.

Ordered MSI GX60 today, picking it up tomorrow. Will be my first laptop ever, decided to move away from desktops.

They went OOS for a while at the place I ordered from, came back in stock yesterday with a new model number. I am assuming this might be the Hitman edition with the Richland APU? I live in Australia. Either way I am excited to take it for a spin. I've ordered a Sammy 840 Pro SSD to go with it but I'm torn whether or not to stick W7 or W8 on it.

Most MSI ship with a black hard rubber retention block in the box for securing a second 2.5" hard drive or SSD.

Where did you get the information from, that you will be able to force the 5750M at 3,2Ghz ?
    That would be amazing

His right .However you wont see much different in games. Most probably 3 to 5 fps only in cpu intensive games or even no difference in gpu intensive games

I doubt turbo on 4 cores at 3,2 Ghz will be possible, more like either 2.9 Ghz or 3.1 Ghz.

GPU intensive games are no problem for the GX60, but CPU intensive ones are.
Every increase will be a win, considering the fact that the GPU suffers from the slow CPU/APU.
Every % extra CPU Performance is awesome

    Hi New GX60 Owner Here,

I can confirm that i have seen 4 cores running at 3.2 GHz when playing Witcher 2 while monitoring the CPU clock and usage on the a10-5750m...
However all GX60 comes with Win 8 now and PScheck is not working on Win 8....

Picked up my GX60, it is indeed the Hitman edition. Everythings great except there seems to be a buzzing especially when idle. I think it's coming from the fan but it also sounds similar to the kind of coil whine desktop gpus sometimes have. Any ideas?

Edit: Found the bios update and thats fixed the noise. Yay silence

yeah..it's the fan...mine has that buzzing sound too...
the buzzing sound is audible when the fan is spinning on low speed....but it's gone when the fan speed is ramped up during load...

Edit: Good to know the bios update fixes the fan buzzing...cheers..

If yours are original without any upgrade, the idle is fine eventhough mine idles at 40-42 degrees. On load 60+ is fine. It would go max 70 degrees plus or minus 1.

Yeah its a win+same amount of price compared to Gx60. What im trying to tell is that the difference is not big. In 3dmark11, Physics score are maybe 300 higher which means at the same amount of animation during the benchmark and the total fps is 300 more than the 4600m. This means that every second may be only 1-2 fps different

I finally got a chance to play with my GX60, and will be travelling out tomorrow, so said chance is just for the day :S

I downloaded the latest drivers (non-beta) from MSI's website here [ http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GX60-1AC.html#/?div=BIOS&nbos=win8 ] . Haven't downloaded the firmware or bios updates (Should I?)

    So, couple of questions:
    1. Should I download the firmware & bios updates? I don't really know how they work? Is it just a setup.exe that I run?
    2. I tried playing DotA / warcraft 3 , and can't seem to get the dedicated card to work? The power light stays white, even though in the CCC Switchable graphics I've set warcraft to use "High Performance". Is there anything I'm missing?

I should note I'm sticking with windows 8, in case that matters. For some reason, when I set everything to high performance and rebooted, it seemed to _always_ use the dedicated card, even when I wasn't playing, and had to put the power settings back to "balanced" and reboot so that now everything is not using the 7970, including games...

What am I doing wrong? :(

I'm losing my mind on this!

So now, when I use "High Performance" mode and reboot, the 7970 stays on. If I switch to "Balanced", and reboot, then 7970 never turns off.

    :'(

Edit: This would be perfect, if not for the reboots!

First off you want to use the 7970m to play WC3TFT.... you dont need it to play TFT for DOTA...second who plays TFT dota anymore >.<

When you right click on your "desktop" in windows 8 you have options two of them at the top will open AMD Vision, you can use this to select the profile for games. In the Switchable Graphics Application Settings you can tell AMD what games should use the iGPU (power saving) what should use the 7970m (High Performance) then you're problem will be solved.

Maybe you can contact MSI to ship you one. All GX60, GT60 and GT70 shipped with single HDD all includes a extra bracket for second HDD.

I had same with MSI drivers. For best performance and functionality use AMD's 13.3 drivers. I found rly annoying problem on newest beta.

A bit of an off topic question, but does this mean that the GX60 has a very good cooling system or that AMD CPUs have a lower max temp limit (just because Intel CPU's get up to around 90C in quite a few laptops).

Mine didn't come with an extra bracket.

I'm pretty impressed with the cooling and noise of the GX60 so far. The A10 barely breaks 70c most of the time in games and the 7970M sits at around 74c. The fan isn't even loud either.

Think of it as your plane taking off, to have that much cooling power in a laptop I think its wicked. I always catch a look when i turn it on for fun.

Not sure about 13.5 beta but 13.4 increases about 100 pts to 3dmark 11 graphics score, breaching 6500 for graphics...

do not install 13.5 . There are not noticable improve and there is a big prob cooperating with our lappy. After screen goes dim it will not wake up so you have to hard restart GX60

That is why I like reviews from tomshardware, they can discover real-values, unlike Anandtech. Anandtech just made a short video review on lower setting and claiming Intel gaming machine is 45% faster and spread that crap with big signs.
Well here at tomshardware we have seen A10+7970M many case even faster than i7+680M...

Could anyone give me some advice on forcing 2.7 Ghz on Windows 8 and also over-clocking 7970m with MSI afterburner? The max values are the stock values and it won't allow me to raise them :(

I'm running 13.4 drivers and getting P4611 on 3Dmark 11 which doesn't seem great compared to some of he other scores I've seen on this thread.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

That is because you can't force turbo with PSCheck to 2.7 Ghz on Win8.
PSCheck doesn't work on Win 8 AFAIK, otherwise you would be able to easily get a score above P4850.

Yeah you do not want to overclock your 7970m if you just want to test its ability sure, but to leave it like that will shorten its life and you wont notice and improvement in your games.

Taking precautions, overclocking will not damage your GPU. However, since the GX60 has a bottleneck with the AMD APU, overclocking the GPU will not really help out, so it's not really advisable to bother with it.

Tom's Hardware review of the unit is good, and it shows the value of a gaming computer on a budget. Sure it may be bottlenecked by the CPU, but it can still play games, at their max settings.

AMD needs to release a mobile CPU without integrated graphics and boost their TDP to 45w to allow massive core clock increase, maybe even count, so they can be competitive with mobile core i5s and maybe older core i7s.

That would not work in this unit since the display outputs come from the CPU though.
