I just ran Skyrim as well today, and it's really day and night compared the experience it gave me on my PS3 back during launch. Like you said, the gameplay is very smooth, but what impressed me the most were the loading times. But maybe that's because I've been accustomed to waiting a whole minute fast travelling anywhere.

Atheros Wireless Lan driver v10.0.0.251 W7/W8

Manually update the driver in Device Manager pointing the Update Driver to either the Win7 or Win8 folder

Yup, i dont think 210USD is that much. And i want to have a fastest CPU possible in my GX60 :) Even if gives a 10% speed increase i still find it worth the money :) Not interested in OCing btw..

I am gonna buy that too but this price is way to high. Please do some benchmarks with forced turbo by PSCheck when you got it

So I just purchased one of the new GX60's that come with the A10-5750m processor. Does anyone know how compatible the Kaveri CPU will be with the GX60 when released? My plan is to keep the current processor and swap out for the Kaveri later on.

So I had a catastrophic error yesterday trying to upgrade my Catalyst drivers. Now whenever I boot up my computer it takes me directly to the Windows 8 recovery environment after and automatic repair. I tried doing a "Refresh your PC" and "Reset your PC" but I get and error that says There was a problem resetting your PC.

I tried the F3 hotkey method and it doesn't work either.

I suspect if my GX60 came with Win7 instead of 8 I wouldn't be having this headache...anyone else having a similar issue?

AFAIk you need BIOS update to insert 5750m after 4600m.

I don't know where to get it, haven't seen it on the MSi site.

New firmware isn't needed to swap a10-4600m for a10-5750m. Not for the engineering sample chips at least, and wouldn't have thought it's any different for the regular 5750m.

However, 1833MHz RAM still runs at 1600MHz so might need a firmware update for 1833MHz support. Are there any new mobo bioses around - msi site only shows 2, the last of which is from october 2012 i think...

I think you need to look at the new gx60 bios because if you swap its technicaly a new gx60 hitman edition.

    I don`t see a new Bios for the GX60...

Edit: You meant the Bios for the Hitman Edition right, lmao it says "Win7 only", is this a mistake?

I dont know, but i cant imagine that the OS you are using has any influence on the bios.
Maybe the installing process only works on win7?
Why dont you ask the MSI support?

OS probably does have an effect - there's win8 and non-win8 versions for the gx60-1ac. Maybe due to embedded OS keys in the bios? Anyhow, there's a new BIOS out from 6/6/2013. Would be useful if they stated what the new BIOS brings.

They give same BIOS link for both version of GX60 - the 4600m one and the Hitman 5750m, so it seems it makes upgrade from 4600m to 5750m officialy supported by MSi.

    ----------

When I try to install the newest BIOS provided by MSi I get this error "4 - Error: ROM file ROMID is not compatible with existing BIOS ROMID".

Any ideas? Since I don't have more than 1 HDD I tried to install the non-RAID BIOS.

It's really wierd that this error pops up, since MSi itself postes this BIOS for GX60. I guess either I'm doing something wrong or they just don't test their stuff before they release it.

Yeah, also I followed the instructions on the MSi's site on how to upgrade the BIOS to the letter.

I guess MSi doesn't test it's garbage before it posts it on the internet.

I'm kinda torn when it comes to MSI support, the guys are really nice, but when it comes to real support I feel kinda left alone...

I wrote the german Team on facebook bout the throttling issues with the 4600m when reaching 60°C, and got a really kind reply telling me to fill for an rma and stuff, but all I got back from that was an mainly automated email with the link to the bios-dl.

Remove it from Windows via "deinstall programs"
Then reboot and install the new version.

This unfortunately happened to me as well. However refreshing Windows didn't fix the problem and neither does "reset your PC". I'm stuck with a computer that can only run Windows RE...Just waiting on my recovery disks from MSI :(

That's bad, I'm having a WIn8Pro Disc here for recovery.

On a side note: now that the windows serial is written into the rom, how do I install Win8pro without buying a upgrade, when I already have a regular license?

As far as we know today there will be not possible to swap richland for a kaveri. For the desktop processors it is confrimed already that the socket will be changed and the processor is not compatibile with previous one. Anyway they didnt say anything about mobile pratform but there is more likely that the principle will be same.

I'm interested in this computer due to the awesome bang for the buck. I have a few questions that I hope you could address:
    1) AMD's crappy drivers. Is that an Nvidia propagated myth, or is it true?
    2) CPU bottleneck. Another myth? I've been skimming through this thread but can't make it through 100 pages. I saw that this was something that was debunked but still crops up randomly.
    3) How much of the weight is battery? I usually just plug it in wherever I go, so I leave the battery charge at 40% at home.

    1) Maybe true for the start of the 7970M, but not anymore.
    2) not really, but for some games yes: Hitman:Absolution (24 fps avg no matter the setting, 14-39fps in the benchmark) same for Guild Wars2, AC3 seems to be unplayable in Boston according to some guys on here, but I don't have it to test.
    3) alot, I'd say the battery weighs aroung 0.5Kgs.

4: Great machine, try to get the Hitman Edition, or an A10-5750M on ebay to reduce the CPU-bottleneck.

Those are just a set of instructions on how to update your bios...there's Win7/Vista/Xp instruction just below win8...
Have you installed the bios to your win 8 machine?

The firmware has "non-win8" written all over it...has nothing to do with the link you posted...

Are you sure? I heard that Kaveri will be FM2+ and will be backwards compatible with FM2. Crazy world of chips: Kaveri is FM2 compatible? My guess that will be more for desktops but I'm hoping it will be the same for notebooks as well.

yes, I am sure. But there is a little detail that you need to understand and its a key. Socket will be backwards compatibile but not the processor. So there is gonna be following compatibility:

    FM2+ -> trinity, richland, kaveri
    FM2 -> trinity, richland

unfortunately kaveri will work only with newest socket :(

What's more there is just a physical incompability. Kaveri processor has 2 more pins that the FM2 socket doasnt have hole for.

Lets just wait for the information about mobile kaveri.
