Ok, LisuPoland is obviously a hater. Don't listen to him. The gx60 is a very good gaming laptop, even with the a10. It outperform all other notebooks at this price. However, if you play a lot of MMOs or STRs, a laptop with an i7 and a weaker GPU may be better. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gx60-gaming-laptop-radeon-hd-7970m,3478.html
I don't think the a10-5750m version worth 100€ more. Go with the 4600m, you will can upgrade it later if you need it.
-
Why are you endorsing him to buy something, that does not deliver performance it should be capable of? Like I said, if the real time performance in games would have been like that of a ~P5000 score in benchmark like in 3Dmark11, then it would have been indeed - as it was advertised (and still is!) - a great gaming solution - but the real time performance in games is often worse, fps even dips to that od a medium range notebook.
On i7 + 650m at least I tune details a bit lower and I get 50-60 fps.
On CPU bottlenecked system with A-10 - if a game dips to 20 fps, then it will dip even on lowest resolution and lowest details, because the CPU cannot process that much geometry to send enough info to the GPU for 60 fps.
GX60 does not give you adjusting options, if it lags with A-10 from the outset, don't bother lowering details.
If MSI truly wanted to deliver a resonable notebook for the lowest price possible, why didn't they stuck a 7850m in there instead of 7970m? Such pair would have been a lot more balanced (CPU would still bottleneck) and also even cheaper, than current price of GX60!
Get GX60 as a last resort and if you do, then make sure it is a Hitman Edition like j_kut said.
If you don't believe me, then read some of the reviews on the net - they often hint to a question about MSI - "what they hell were they thinking!?" -
Wow. Thanks for your reply. I am sure that the CPU is a massive bottleneck when it comes to gaming on GX60. But on the other hand, thanks to the raw GPU power you can play games in 1080p and with very high graphics settings that puts stress only on the GPU. And I understand that calling it a gaming notebook may be a bit harsh, but honestly which notebook in sub 1000 category can honestly say it can play Far Cry 3 on 1080p 4xMSAA DX11 and maxed out settings with respectable 22FPS? Seriously, if you know about any notebook that would be a better all around performer with better futureproofness and similar price please let me know, because that's what I'm looking for at this point.
-
Ooops...Double post
-
Wow...Triple post
-
You don't want to play Far Cry 3 with 22 fps.. trust me... there were moments when I couldn't hit ANYTHING with a weapon, unless it was a full auto and rage spraying due to lag and inability to aim smoothly because of low FPS.
If you want to play games on a notebook for pleasure, not toil and anger you gotta shell out at least 1500$ for strong GPU and strong CPU, no way around that. -
I wont be so sure about future games being even more CPU reliant...
both next gen consoles are moving to x86 architecture, have a fairly weak CPU by today's standard (Weaker Jaguar cpu used in tablets), and an average GPU...While there might still be some architectural differences and OS differences, designing games that will work on all platforms should be made easier by that jump...and in essence, we should see less crappy ports like GTA4 and AC3... -
Lisu, seriously, what is you problem?
Are you pissed cause 1/2 the price didn't give you 2x performance?
At 900bucks there is no competition to the GX60. Period.
If you need 60+ fps in games you wont be over medium-settings with any current notebook with i5/i7/gtx760.
We understand that your obvioously pissed, but a simple look at detailed 3DMark scores would given you the answer, and so did every review of the GX60 out there.
If you made a bad purchase for your needs, then stop blaming it on the laptop. You bought it without enough knowledge obviously, I mean it's not like the peeps at MSI/notebookcheck/notebookreview/Tom's hardware lied to you before you bought it.
So please, finally, stop ing around.
Thank you. -
I am pissed, because for 1/2 price I get 1/3 performance.
There is NO WAY, that 7970m should EVER drop to 20 fps in 2013 games or older.
All what I said about this notebook is true, you can't deny that. I don't see any use in a gaming notebook where I look at the sky = 60 fps, I look down and look in front of me, bam 20-25 fps (no matter the settings and resolution). I hate haters myself, but if I am to tell the truth about GX60, then it has to be shocking.
I am warning potential buyers, that's all. GX60 has many tiny pros and just one serious con, that makes it great multimedia notebook (except rendering), but not too good gaming notebook.
Let's have that last crum of hope however, if Kaveri gets fm2 version, not just fm2+, then GX60 gets fixed and gets awesome upgrade.
As for you, I suggest firmly not to endorse GX60 so much without pointing out this serious drawback (A-10), because 90% of buyers will have a huge let down when they launch any of the big titles. -
I don't want to add any more fuel to the fire that is currently going on, but unless you have an Intel I7/ nVidia #80 GTX card, you aren't going to get 45+ FPS at awesome settings on every game, and you'll have to tweak the settings based on both A.) the game, B.) the computer, and C.) the user. Somewhere in there you'll have to find a compromise.
-
Isn't your youtube channel called 'Lisutbg'? Because you said a lot of compliments about the GX60 there.
"fantastic gaming notebook, at it's price point there is currently no better option, unless you want to pay about 250-300$ more for GTX 680m" - Lisutbg
Just curious, what made you change your mind so drastically about it? -
You can bring even a top notch system to its knees under certain settings, so bashing the GX60 for dropping to 20fps, without even mentioning what settings you're trying to play your games at, is pretty moot. When you buy a budget system, then it all comes down to compromises. That's why some laptops are 1200$, and others are 2500$. If its game breaking for you to see 20fps drops while up on a hill looking down at an open world map, then this laptop isn't for you. In fact, most laptops probably aren't for you, and you would need to spend probably closer to 2k to avoid any sort of 20fps drops at ultra settings.
All in all, I've had a blast playing beautiful looking games on the GX60. I know what settings need to be tuned down to avoid getting too many fps drops, and I've always been able to find the right middle between quality and performance, and quite honestly, I haven't had to sacrifice much at all. Like I said earlier, certain settings kill fps, regardless of your system. Things like Dynamic Shadows, View Distances, MSAA. -
So sell it and buy something more suitable for you . And give yourself a break
. Everyone knows what to expect from GX60 .
-
Before we "keep it real" any further, I would recommend keeping this thread along the lines of positive and constructive. Each person will have their own opinions of this unit. Improvements to performance over negativity comments = win any day.
-
With the new 509 BIOS, it says:
"Modify DGPU power up sequence"
Is this just for initial boot? or just anytime you're going to use discreet graphics?
Will this increase performance at all? -
Hey everyone I just got my msi gx60 "hitman edition" this week and I have been having some MAJOR fps problems. For games like hitman absolution and sniper ghost warrior 2 it can barley get 25-30 fps but with games like Counter strike GO and DOTA 2 I can play on max settings. I don't know what the problem is. I have all the drivers up to date and everything like that so I have no idea what to do. I am very disappointed with this laptops gaming performance so far and the worst part is that I dropped 1200 dollars on it. S if you guys can give me any tips on how to help this laptop run better, they will be greatly appreciated . Thanks!
-
Whoever does not see this computer for gaming, always have the option to buy the MSI GT60-OD, with its fantastic 4700MQ I7 processor, and the GTX780M, so yes, prepare also 1.000$ more than it is worth the GX60.
-
25-30 fps for hitman on ultra sounds about right....lower your settings..
MSI Dragoon Army -
Are you serious? If you'd read a single review or even a single page ITT you would've known that GX60 has a slow processor which bottlenecks the performance in CPU-intensive games.
On the other hand games that rely more on the GPU power (Tomb Raider, Far Cry 3, Sleeping Dogs etc.) perform exceptionally well on maxed out settings for a notebook in this price range. -
Seriously guys, reading last thread replies, nobody could say graphic w****s only existed in console forums....
Now more seriously, don't try to play everything on ultra, I could play at a totally confortable 35 fps Bioshock infinite on High settings. Options like dinamic shadows and antialiasing are more cpu dependant. Low them down. Now I'm running all batman games on very high settings. The integrated APU graphics can move DOTA 2 and CS:GO flawlessly. This is a hell of a laptop, for both being a laptop and the price
Despite of this, I m having some screen problems, My GX is only 6 months old, they've told me at the store that glowy areas may appear near the bottom due to processor/graphics heat spreading up. I refuse to agree them, I paid a lot to just believe this issues were not took into account when designing the laptop. Do you think I should call MSI official support? Plus, there might be some loose component behind the speakers as theay vibrate when playing some frecuences... Do they usually just change/repair failing parts or shall they send me a new laptop??
Thanks in advance -
Display: definitely a warranty issue, as we all would have the problem if it was bad design.
Speakers: sounds like they're simply distorting, or is it even happening on lower volumes and high-quality sources? Keep in mind it's just something like a 3/4-1" woofer. -
Alright, sorry to be off topic on your sound issue but I'm having a few problems myself and I was wondering if anyone has any idea how to fix this...
I bought myself my first ssd about a week ago, a Samsung 840 pro 256gb. I was looking forward to a huge increase in performance from what I've read online about basically any SSD vs. HDD. Unfortunately I was really disappointed with the performance coming out of it which I think may be a issue with the laptop (GX60 1AC with windows 8). My boot times are 35s which is quick but I've heard of much quicker even with older SSD's. I checked the alignment and everything looks good there. My sequential read and write are very acceptable with 540/540 MB/s read and 491/520 MB/s write averaged over 4 tests on the Samsung magician software. But my random reads and writes are pretty terrible, 44511/100100 IOPS random reads and 28885/90000 IOPS random writes also averaged.... I also had quite the time even getting windows installed on just the SSD and having the HDD formatted, because MSI decided not to include windows disks (...) and their recovery software for USB is terrible. It's becoming problem after problem and is getting frustrating.
Sorry for venting there but you get the point, I've done research haven't found anything that has helped yet. Again, if anyone has a clue how to fix this please let me know.
Thanks,
Biblow -
Simply do a clean reinstall of Win8, that shuold fix you problem.
Download Windows 8 Enterprise Evaluation
Although it's the enterprise version, as usual the Win installer includes all version, so if you use it, you will get the usual Win8 as the key is stored in the rom. -
Someone installed a new bios for windows 8
-
Yes, no problems, but I also dont see any difference in behaviour.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Heat is managed properly in the MSI design and it does not propagate to the display at all.
-
I'll give that a go, thanks.
-
I am a new owner of the GX60 hitman edition
So far i am very impressed
playing race room on high settings on my 55inch TV with the G25 wheel using the GX60 is amazing -
Well that seemed to do the trick for start up, loads in 8.5 seconds
. Unfortunately it didn't help my Random Reads and Writes, both are around 40k IOPS now and should be closer to 100k. I will finish installing all the drivers and see if that helps at all.
-
With my OCZ Vector 256GB , Windows starts in 5,5 seconds in GX60-1AC with A10-5750M

AMD Radeon HD 7660G video card benchmark result - AMD A10-4600M,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16FK P4633
What´s hapens with my notebook
? All drivers it's the same
-
yes , what can i do ?
-
Nothing happened to your notebook that result looks normal of the original GX60, as for it stating the driver is not approved don't worry about it your graphics P score is indicative of a properly performing 7970m.

Hi Guys
I was hoping someone could assist. I am interested in buying the MSI GX60 Hitman Edition notebook but I do not see Windows 7 drivers listed in the driver section.
I do not want to use Windows 8 that comes pre-loaded.
MSI Global â Notebook & Tablet - GX60 Hitman Edition
Are there Windows 7 64bit drivers for this laptop and if so where can I get them?
Much Appreciated -
I get the same driver not approved message, so I'm guessing everyone using a GX60 does as well. Your score seems on target.
-
Sometimes using BETA drivers or any modified drivers you will get that error, scores tell the truth not the authenticity of drivers.
-
new BIOS update doesn't support 64bit version of W7, lovely ... well done MSI
-
Are there Windows 7 drivers for the GX60 Hitman Edition laptop?
-
On the DL-page, there's a button: Win8 <-> Non-Win8....
-
i wouldn't spam the thread if i didn't get the right version... but thanks anyway
-
Is yours Win7 from factory? Also maybe you tried the wrong .bat...
-
my GX60 1AC came without OS , theres only one .bat file in the update folder
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
All GX models come with an OS from the factory so it is likely a "win7" machine I believe.
-
when you say "all" you probably refer to north america, have you ever heard about Europe ?
-
We are just trying to help you out, if our responses are not good enough maybe you should just contact MSI technical support directly.

As mothers say "You catch more flies with honey than vinegar."
Best of luck regardless  -
Well, then you have a Win8 Bios installed by default. It's simple as that.
Second the post above... -
You can try the drives from the regular GX60 imo. there shouldnt be much difference. Just Cross-check them.
-
Everything seems fine, mine is scoring P4558 with the latest Win8.1 preview drivers.

Hi guys
Seeing as getting the most out of our GX60's should be the core of this forum I was wondering if anyone has had anymore success with using OverDrive with Win 8.1 preview to lock their a10-5750m to 3.2ghz or any value for that matter.
My hitman edition which apart from setting power to max and un-parking cores is stock (windows 8 no AOD) shows four cores at 3.2Ghz (100.5MHz x 32) while idling however when playing farcry 3 it throttles down to approximately two at 3.2Ghz and two at 2.8Ghz (occasionally even all four at 2.8Ghz).
Basically just looking if anyone has managed it successfully because if you lot can't then I'm certain I won't figure it out and will most likely just do damage...
I feel like were on the edge of squeezing some much needed extra juice out of our processors but we may have to wait till AMD touch up the drivers some more.
PySoMaNiC you seem to be the only one to have succeeded thus far, any update on your performance etc?
Thanks in advance, -
