We are in the same boat! The Gx60 has not been releaased yet so we really can't know how it runs the game.

im sure it will run gw2 easily. My desktop can run gw2 on max settings and it is not as powerful as the laptop. I do have a few questions about the gx60. How is it having a non backlit keyboard? Do you really notice not having the backlit keyboard? Will the gx 60 be easy to upgrade in the future? Is there any other major differences that you know of from the gt series like sound quality or screen quality anything like that? I like the price point of the gx60 just worries me about no backlit keyboard and upgrade ability and don't know of much its cutback compared to the gt series in terms of the "extras". I know u could change the keyboard and make it backlit but i have no idea where you would be able to find one to buy.
-

1) Having a good keyboard is much better than having a bad backlit one ^-^ The screen gives some light anyway.
2) As easy to upgrade as any other MSI, it will be AMD graphics cards only.
3) No other differences to the GT other than AMD vs Intel. -
Does the gx60 have the touchpad disable button? and the turbo fan and cpu buttons. Is the screen bright enough so if you look down at keys in the dark u can still kinda see them? I do play alot by just feel when playing but the odd time u just need to look down and if its dark id want to see. Im not a hardcore intel or nvidia fan i just like to be able to play games on the go or on the couch without having to break the bank so amd doesn't bother me because they do make some good stuff as well.
-
1. How long does the battery last when surfing the Internet on the integrated GPU?
2. Which screen is the stock? Is it the same as the GT60's?
3. How does the (gaming) performance compare to the MSI GT60 with 680m? I expect that both models will be similar, but I want to convince myself that the GX60 doesn't suffer from unsavory Enduro issues.
Thanks. -
The GX60 does not have a physical touchpad disable button, but can be disabled with fn+F?(not sure which one is it). It does has the turbo fan button, but not turbo boost button, the turbo boost is replaced with a "p1".
If gaming is the main purpose for you and you don't want to spend a ton, this laptop is PERFECT. -
wow its hard to find a store that has them they are all on backorder or pre order. Is the gx60 not yet released in Canada yet? If not do you know when its suppose to be? I think i might get this as for the price its hard to say no and go for a laptop that is 500+ to get the i7 and 680m or 7970m

For gaming this is a great laptop. As it has already been established, the AMD A10 does not hinder gaming very much at all. Throw an SSD in this and everything will fly. The only other thing id personally do to it is upgrade to a (good) msi backlit keyboard. I've never had a computer with one so that's why I feel like I'm missing out. However, one could always get one of those USB mini flexible lights and aim it over the KB.

Ya im curious to see if it will be on sale for black friday. Only a couple weeks away wonder if it will be worth waiting till then for one. Im amazed at some of the videos you guys posted seems to run really smooth for games at a great price point. Does anyone know if AMD is looking at using the same socket for their newer processors coming out in the future. IT be a big let down if they were not the same.

You could edit the fan tables if you want to bump it up for some more extreme tuning.

Huh, the GW2 Invite a Friend needs an email address of the person I want to invite, quite obnoxious :/.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well if someone wants to private message me I can always do that off forum.
As for other interesting news, I have an A6 Llano based chip on the way, I am very curious if it will work. -
Everyone else notice that every time you search for MSI GX60, most websites are stating that the US release is going to be $1300?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Most of the pre-orders I have seen are for $1200.

This was tested here by Atom Anti, and he found that his Trinity System would not boot with a Llano chip.
If it did work, then we could just throw a A8-3550 mx in and a fair deal more CPU power than the A10-4600m -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It would have been nice if someone had pointed that out when I asked earlier :/ Would have saved me some cash, oh well.
-
Has anyone here played StarCraft 2 yet with this laptop? If so how did it run on max settings?
-
-
1) The A8-3550 mx is a true quad core with 4 floating point operators, while the A10-4600m has 4 cores but only 2 floating point operators
2) the Llano architecture has shown much better performance clock for clock because of the difference in architecture
A 2.2 Ghz Llano has been shown to perform the same in most cases as a 2.7Ghz A10-4600m. I can provide sources later if anyone cares.
I have the A8-3530mx and I can run it at 2.6 Ghz no problem, It can run at 3.0 - 3.1 Ghz but the cooling in my HP notebook is not sufficient to stop thermal throttling. Since the GX60 cools better than my HP DV6, it could have more overclocking headroom.
3) Llano has full voltage and clock control thanks to KSTAT10 and Fusion Tweaker. Overclocking works quite well.
4) The A8 - 35XX mx line is 40watt TDP, which gives it a lot more overhead for CPU power (and what trinity should have done)
Instead of having a CPU with the power of a i3-2310, You have a CPU with the power in between an I5-2410m and i7-2630m. -
on the other note, is there anyway to oc the new trinity? now or the near future? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No, it's locked down tight. The only hope is AMD release a 45W trinity in the future.

Just to show how awesome Black Ops 2 runs on GX60 I uploaded a video:

hey meaker did u find time to try out gw2 yet. Also is the optical drive just a blu ray reader or burner? Nice Cod video seems you stayed above 40fps most of the time.
-
I been playing GW2 most of the day today and it played damn fine so far. -
Penguin, PVE is easy for any system. What about WvW? Im really interested in that since even Dynamic events are still pretty easy to laptops.
Thanks! -
How do you making these videos? Is the CPU part need to work on that too? -
I record with Fraps durning gameplay, it does take away some CPU processing power to record and eats away about 5-20 fps, but it's still very playable.
Then I convert the video files with MediaCoder x64, it's a free program, but very good - it is one of the few of it's kind witch can utilize all 4 cores of the CPU (in our case, the A-10) to convert the files, speeding up the process greatly. I convert to h.264 format.
What you see in the demo videos I made is still less fps, than what you get without Fraps running in the background. So, if game runs fluently with Fraps on the videos, imagine how smooth it is without Fraps
Here is another video I made in a mission with a lot of commotion going on around, CPU still doesn't choke with all those computer controled units everywhere and fraps running in the back.

There does seem to be a little lag but i dont know why, the FPS shows its running 40+ FPS so weird, either way good vid!!
-
Has anyone tried to take the 7970m from GX60 and test it in some other laptop? I'm trying to make it work right now, the GX60 is working fine without it on it's integrated graphics...So i'm trying to get it running on GT683 system with i7 inside..so far no luck with instaling drivers, the laptop is working with 7970, but i was so far unable to install any driver on it :/
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes I thought that might happen, it's having the same issue as the clevo cards designed for exclusively switchable systems only.
It will either need a custom bios by MSI (keep dreaming) or you could try the clevo HM series BIOS.
I did try to warn people, but they seemed content to ignore me. -
That is the effect of recording, some fps gets missed durning recording and that crates illusion of lag spikes in-game.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Oh I got the A6 today, tried it anyway since I had it and no surprises with a black screen and max fan speed.
Well we know for sure now. -
the black screen issue can be solved following Blind-flashing guide with HM bios yes... it works, but so far i could not install the drivers :/ ..fortunately enough the card is still working fine when i returned it back to GX60...so..so far, no damage done...I'd like to try another thing, adviced by pau1ow, and that is flashing the Dell bios...if that's not going to work, then this experiment is over ...
-
It worked!!
With default Dell bios, drivers installed, Battlefield 3 tested, temps went max. 74C
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Good to hear there is a solution, i'll keep that in mind if anyone else wants to go that way.
