Anyone else getting corrupted 13.8Beta2 downloads? I've installed the "non-mobility" version now, seems to run fine as well...

Installed that fix, Saints Row 3 still runs like crap (15 fps), because the A-10 is just a steaming pile of ****. Worthless gaming laptop.

I wouldn't get even 70% of it's original price and still that would be not enough for GT70.

Hi everyone! long time reader of this form here and I think I need some help,

Recently some of the lights and buttons on my GX60 have stopped working and/or responding. The CD ejection, P1, and display will light up when pressed but does nothing. The wifi light does not light up, even when I'm using the wifi (like I am right now). Also all lights (not including the the far right though) under the tough pad do not light up. (all other buttons do work correctly like the turbo fan, and the num/caps lock.)

everything was working fine up until a few hours ago. everything else seems to be OK too.

Does anyone have any advice besides format and re-install everything (Only because I currently do not have enough time to re-install everything, otherwise I would have done that instead of posting here)?

    Thanks in advance :)

Thanks j_kut, it was the SCM

Took forever to find the files on MSI's website. And apparently you have to run the "setup" and not the "SMCx64Setup" otherwise you will get errors every couple of minutes.

side note, has anyone played Payday 2, or Saints Row 4?

I ask because Payday 2 runs extremely well 60-80 FPS and buddy's intel I7 laptop only gets around 45 FPS.

Saints Row runs super slow even after turning down most settings. I suspect this is going to be one of those games that doesn't do well on our GX60s

Yes it can vary that much by title, I don't normally recommend people do this, but there are unlocked ES sample CPUs on ebay which you can get. Because AMD were too dumb to release a black edition and support machines like the GX60 even getting an unlocked A8 will give you better performance.

Lisu: Maybe your settings are fu**ed up,or there some bad installation going on. Why would he lie to us?!

Btw does anyone know how to set up the audio so I can have my Creative T40 plugged in while there's still sound coming from the onboard speakers?
So far I've always used the headphone-jack for the external speakers, but I'm getting tired of plugging in and out when I want to listen too Music loudly...

Dude I have no interest in talking bad crap about particular notebook models.

But GX60 runs Saints Row 3 terribly, stop blaming my system or instalation ect. the problem isn't boiling down to this.

No matter what settings LOW or ULTRA - the FPS is unplayable, on LOW sometimes it goes up to 30 fps... on a in' 7970m. such gaming laptop. Next time I'm getting i7 + high end GPU combo, because I know now the consequences of trying to "save up" by getting cheap component in a notebook.

Maybe SR4 runs better, but that means optimalization is better and in contrast, that CPU isn't as bad if it plays an well optimized sanbox game. I wish this is the actual case.

    Hey guys;

I can't say I'm new because I have been reading this thread from the start right to last page for months now; but this is my first post. I didn't want to post anything without first reading and learning everything that has been talked about.

I have been a GX60 1AC owner for 6 months now. Recently my hard disc failed and windows couldn't start. I haven't done any upgrades to the laptop except for regular driver and windows updates. I sent the damn thing to tecnical support center last friday.

From what I have read in this thread so far a few other users have experienced the same HDD failure after a few months of use. So it's safe to assume that MSI slided a cheap HDD, as well as the CPU, into this shy monster. What do you think?

By the way it's a great thread. Keep the conversation going. And LisuPoland, sorry for your disappointment dude. Life is short.

The HDD causes no problems for me (at least till now). My powerbrick however already failed one after 4 months of using, I had to RMA the entire notebook spite this being only the powerbrick failure.

The real deal breaker in this model is the CPU witch is simply very weak and it really makes me ponder who at MSi technical departement came up with this combo = monster GPU + weakling CPU?

If AMD had gone for unlocked CPUs, this would have been an entirely different beast that all enthusiasts could have got a bargain setup for.

If you can get an unlocked CPU and it should perferm very well.

Lisu:I didnt mean to offend you, we both know the shortcomings of the GX60, I can live with them. If a particular game runs 60fps on one and 25fps on another GX60 there's something wrong.
(btw in Austria and Germany, so maybe in Poland too, the old GT60 (3630QM/GTX675MX) sells new for 999€ ;)

Mullrof: Got it from MSI directly as an RMA part ,way too expensive, but I had some money to spend, if you want one try ebay.

Completely agree with Meaker, the APUs would have so much OC-capabilities it's sad we can't use them.
Seeing the A8-5550 ES running at 3,6GHz in a HP DV6 with basically no cooling, I imagine the 5750M could easily do the same in the GX60 with still room to breathe...

A8-ES on ebay: here, take my money, again.

Another thing about GX60 is that I have to void my warranty to fix something that was botched by it's designers. I have to spend additional money to mitigate shortcomings of GX60 and only, if I get an ES CPU and risk damaging my machine instaling it/OC'ing it.

    Edit:

I get 15-20 fps in Saints Row 3 and GPU utilization is abysmal... around 30-40%... this shows that the CPU is holding the machine back.

Fortunately, another awesome game - Witcher 2 - while still bottlenecked, manages to get that 25 fps. This is sufficient for combat in this TPS game.

Nevertheless, GPU also sleeps in it's latter 50% in that game...

I finished Witcher 2 twice...There were only a few areas that see considerable lag...
Flotsam town centre and Loc Muine centre...The mist travel in the beginning of chapter 2 and the siege of Vergen (Iorverth path) due to huge battle...Other than that, Witcher 2 ran 40-60fps with vsync on and ubersampling disabled..

Yes, the A8 from ebay (A-5550M ES) wil work with Overdrive. Your current issue "No AMD CPU detected" is propably due to the modified driver from LeeKM.

LeeKM is a guy here who modifies the drivers for better performance (check 3/4 pages before)
I assumed it was due to his driver, but might have also been because of the 13.8Beta1 which gave me the same error, now with 13.8Beta2 Overdrive works again.

the 13.8 CCC will allow you to monitor which application is using which GPU...the next time if you see orange LED while idling, fire that up and see which application is running on high performance...

the setting is under "Power" -> "Switchable graphics application monitor" -> "Start monitoring"

Previously, i managed to spot Logitech setpoint software and SCM using 7970m while idling...

Hi, I downloaded Overdrive so that I can force 2.7GHz, but when I start the program it tells me that "AMD OverDrive cannot detect AMD CPU on this computer." How can I resolve this problem? Also, besides temperatures, is there any danger in locking 2.7GHz? Thanks.

EDIT: Never mind, after removing Overdrive and installing it again it works.

The CPU is retarded, don't try to tweak it with advanced programs, OC it, force turbo with something other than PSCheck.

pscheck doeesnt work anymore @ windows 7 ,8 or 8.1 at my laptop . I think that updating the bios has something to do with it , so that not an option maybe thats why overdrive isnt working as well, all assumptions ofc ;)

Could a bios update interfere with a program such as overdrive ?

I asked this in a gx70 thread but I guess there is no harm in asking here.

Today a bought a gx70 and when I type something the touchpad stops working. Now, I know this is a option from the touchpad drivers, I've had this issue in 2 other laptops and I disabled it from the touchpad settings but I can't find that option here. Does anyone know how to disable this?
