The sad thing is I remember when 1.8V was a normal voltage lol.

    Nice clocks.

Have you tuned your memory yet?

Hi all, i recently picked up a GX60 to use as a little project because the price/performance looked pretty great. I upgraded the APU fine (from the 4600M to 5750) and added an SSD as well as putting in higher spec DDR3. Wifi however is proving a little more difficult...

I had a spare Intel-n card kicking about (6200 or something) and when i used that the system would hang just before the desktop. So i decided to pick up an OEM Intel AC-7260 card from a good online shop. This card gets me to the desktop fine however with the default drivers, the latest official and the unofficial beta versions I get he message "No Networks Found". The device is working fine in device manager but when I run the Intel diagnostics for Hardware Test i get "Wireless hardware is not bound to transport driver",

    Any ideas?

So it seems the new 3dmark reflects more off the improvement...Did you use PScheck or AMD overdrive for overclock?

    Nice!

Fortunately, I'm getting a desktop i7 Haswell + GTX760 PC and will no longer need to rely on this notebook.

It will still serve well, but as a multimedia machine for watching movies.

@Lisu: it's kinda sad to recycle the GX60 in an expensive multimedia platform. I've heard you can sell at a good price the 7970M and cooling mounting kit, and can still use the only 4600M, which is enough hardware for HD movies decoding...

Hi all, i've just tried the card in a separate system and it works fine. So this is specific to the 7260 Intel card and the GX60. Has anyone else had problems with upgrading their Wi-Fi? (I'm on the latest BIOS)

You're right it is kinda sad, but I also don't think your advice here is going to help the majority of people with this system. Most are not going to start opening up their systems and ripping out parts to sell on ebay etc. I think your suggestion is also a really bad reflection on this machine (take note MSI!), that a few months down the line, customers are starting to take their machines apart (while still under warranty), and sell off pieces to recover some value, while using whats left as a bulky "multimedia" machine.

I dont have the cash now for another laptop and selling it now would just waste more money, so basically I am stuck with it for a couple of years (just have to make the most of it).

The average gamer who just wanted to play games has been ripped off by MSI with this system IMO, while a few people lucky enough to be able to upgrade their systems with es chips, like yourself, are ok (at extra expense of course).

Also, AMD never designed their trinity and richland processors to operate in gaming laptops. I stupidly trusted that MSI knew what they were doing when they built an AMD system, but the fact is that they were just trying to lure people to buy a so called "gaming" laptop with a budget price tag. The irony is that it was actually overpriced for what it is.

If there is anyone still considering purchasing this system for gaming, as I see some people are still asking the question for some reason... I would strongly advise against it, unless you are an enthusiast, have an ES processor lying around somewhere (unlikely), and are willing to spend a lot of your spare time and money trying to get it right. Otherwise go for an Intel system (at the same price now) and save yourself the hassle and disappointment, and still have a warranty if something breaks.

That's quite good. My A10 usually sits in the low 70s in a CPU intensive game. Might try locking mine at 3.2GHz, it'd be great if I could adjust the voltage as well though. Turbo voltages are much higher than they need to be (1.25v IIRC)

With 3.2ghz locked in my A10-5750m, It hits 88degC in cpu intensive games like Far Cry 3...and you are probably right on the turbo voltages...

Hello. So I got the A8 ES from j_kut (sweet thanks). It installed 8550g nice and... thats all. PSCheck is not working. It mess with higher clock like in trinity above 2.7ghz. Overdrive also doas t detect the amd cpu. I have updated bios already to the latest from msi site from gx60 hitman edition. I have win 7 x64. Have you guys any ideas how to fix it?

Well i reinstalled windows and that fixxed my "does not detect amd cpu" problem on W8 . Its a driver problem

try http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=379505 to clean the drivers and reinstall overdrive than reinstall the latest whql or beta drivers , restart , install overdrive , restart and see if it works. If all else fails ... format C: :p

    I have just done a little power consumption measurements with A8ES at fixed 3200MHz with different voltages + stressing CPU with Aida64;

-at 1.12V consumes just under 46W,
    -at 1.2V consumes between 54-56W,
-at 1.25V Throttling ~40W (without throttling consumption would go over 60W)

This is very significant advantage for A8-5550M ES behalf in temperatures, fan noise and lifespan over A10-5750M. And I believe A8 ES even at this frequency already faster as the forced A10-5750M...

I could do 3.7ghz @1.21v but ill keep it [email protected]. That increase isnt worth the ghz/degree value and a gew points @ benchmarks imo

So I ran the OC. I changed the version of AOD only. I managed to get best scoore at 3,7GHz with 1.200V - 1.206V. I also played with it in bf3 multi. It does faking good performance... until it throttle. I am gonna repaste it today one more time cause I did it little wrongly. Hope it will better cause 97 degree is way too much. Ty for advices.

Something interesting. I've got a Richland A10 and was playing PoE before. I decided to get an idea of how my cpu was clocking. Even though I don't have it locked to 3.2GHz, it seemed to stay around there.

The CPU also gets up to 80c playing this game, but doesn't really leave turbo. It just sits at 3.2GHz usually, deviating between the high 70s and low 80s. I'd really like a way to change the voltages. I could probably bring it back down to 70c or lower.

    Just look at the load...
PoE doesn't seem to be so cpu-intense, in fact it seems it's not even optimised for multicores.
Core0 90%, and the other cores are basically in idle for a gaming situation.
Run a more demanding app and you'll see the clocks level at 2,5-2,7GHz.

So I got my A8-5550M es and installed it. Running stock the computer is slower than the A10-4600m, or so it seems. Without changing voltages, AMD overdrive has allowed me to OC to 3300 MHz stock. Things seem faster at this speed, more responsive. Not sure how to check for sure though.

So, any tests to run that would really indicate any gains?

Also, when I have task manager open, I see the Disk use by the cpu up near 100%. This tells me that the HD on this may actually be limiting the GX60. I notice there is an empty bay. Is that for a second HD. And if so, would finding one and placing windows files and executable programs on that drive, speed up everything?

I've got voltage control working on Windows 8!!!
    For non-ES CPUs (4600m & 5750m)

    1. Download AmdMsrTweaker for Richland & Trinity
    2. Extract it somewhere (in this example I'll extract it into My Documents\MSR)
    3. Make a .bat file
    4. In the batch file, enter the following:

Change the values to your desired. The format is P0=Multiplier@Voltage
    1!
So max turbo (3.5GHz) is P0=35@whatever voltage you want. Repeat for P1 (3.2GHz) and P2 (2.8GHz). You can make it so that Windows runs this batch file at start up, so no maintenance required!

    Proof:
    NrBestI.png

To allow this to run automatically at start up I am using Task Scheduler which seems to work flawlessly.

Recently bought an MSI GX60 with A10 for very good price from ebay, than have done this A8-5550M engineering upgrade. With this A8 functioning much better in every games already with 3.2GHz overclock, temperatures are also cooler than with A10. Now looking for some high specs RAMs, any experience with Crucial Ballastix Sport 1866MHz? What would be the timing at 1600MHz?

Sniffin, So I think there's a step missing there, I made a text file and entered what you said (with my directory ofcourse) saved as bat file but when I run it (even as admin) it just pops up dissapears and according to HWinfo64 and amdmsrtweaker doesn't change the voltages.

I want to get this working because it should make the temperatures friendlier for staying locked at 3.2Ghz which I've kinda been switching on and off for that reason. Any tips on how to A) get mine working and B) what are the optimal voltages (I'm pretty new to all this) especially with or without locking cores?

    Thanks man and good work!

    Hey mate,

Are you using a 4600M or 5750M? If 4600M, you may have to change the multipliers I listed to the ones I gave. If you've got that covered, I'm not sure what else could be the issue. Have you tried running the batch files as an admin? As far as optimal voltages go, the ones I listed are what I'm using and are based off other peoples ES overclocks. Chips vary so if you want to squeeze the most out of it I'd suggest starting with mine and then seeing how low you can go.

Hey sniffin. Where do we put the batch file exactly? And what do we do with AMD MSR? do we have to run it all the time? Sorry I'm a newbie.

Put the batch file wherever you want. Once you've made the batch file, just leave the amdmsr file where it is as the batch file will point to it. You don't need to run it unless you want to check whether or not the changes worked. All you need to run is the batch file and that can be done automatically at startup using windows task scheduler

Got the same thing as yours..Pop up, disappears, nothing's change...

EDIT: manage to get it to run...the line i put in the bat file:
"E:\Users\Accountname\Downloads\AmdMsrTweaker_1.1\x64\AmdMsrTweaker.exe [email protected] [email protected] P2=28.1.050"
Will see how's the temperature change is like...

    Hey guys

Just thought I'd share, if you haven't yet Google "Mantle AMD"...

From what I've read it has the potential to be a god send for our laptops which have the only GCN based mobile card and a CPU that needs all the load taken off it possible.

Keen to hear from people that understand the technical bits better than me, will this help gx60/70 owners? BF4 will be the first game running on it so will be good to see if it demolishes BF3s crap performance!

To lock 5750m have a look half way down here
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/692264-offical-msi-gx60-owners-lounge-276.html

The trick with changing values with baredit is changing the required bits, then clicking on another bit then hitting write and save. If you want more details look at the pages before and after that one.

Good luck, locking improves benchmarks and fps in some games, temps get high so may be worth changing voltages as described above

Did a stability test with AIDA at [email protected] [email protected] for 1hr 30 mins...
Temperature stabilized at 76-78degC, 68-70degC with cololer boost....
Definitely running much cooler with undervolting...

Do you mean cooler with undervolting?

Also how are you testing 3.5GHz stability? I've found it difficult to keep the CPU there for longer than a few seconds to actually see whether it's stable or not, which is why I haven't changed it from 1.2v yet. I'm actually probably going to lock it at 3.2GHz and just find the lowest possible voltage there anyway.
