Yeah..it's cooler with 3.2ghz locked..typo corrected....before this i was hitting 83-85degC with cooler boost on when running far cry 3...
i didn't test the 3.5ghz stability as it is very rare for the APU to hit 3.5ghz when all 4 cores are locked to 3.2ghz...so i'm just testing for 3.2ghz stability by locking the cores to 3.2ghz...tried 1.075, but crashed after 30 mins....
If you wanna do a stability test for 3.5ghz, maybe can try to disable 2 cores and let them run at 3.5ghz...someone mentioned that msconfig can disable 2 cores...

Anyone using AMD Catalyst 13.9? the extra performance from the driver seems to push the temperature up on 7970m...
my 7970m sits at 97degc without cooler boost and 92degc with cooler boost after running MSI Kombustor for about 30mins...
If i were to get new thermal paste, any recommendation? -
Guys!
"Mantle", amd new api, Massive news for us.
AMD's low-level Mantle graphics could mean big things for PC gaming | PCWorld
What does it mean for gx60???
Our purchase may be smarter than we all thought!
Discuss =) -
It's a good step forward moving away from Directx...there has been complains on how directx inefficiently utilizes the hardware PC has...
However, it is still yet to be seen how would Nvdia react to this...TotalBiscuit (a youtube pc gaming commentator) noted that if Nvdia starts developing their own API, it would be divisive to PC gaming...
EDIT: It seems like Nvdia has their own API as well, NVAPI. -
Spending $185 for memory? That is no way will bring any similar performance increase as the A8ES. Why do not you look for just a simple 1600 CL9 memory at better price point?
-
I know memory won't boost performance like the A8 Special Edition, but wanna max out this computer. I think I will look for just the 2x4GB version of these sticks!
-
Hello, I am a lucky owner of the a8 5550es cpu I installed on my msi GX60 Generic VGA video card benchmark result - AMD Eng Sample Mobile 2185_A1 ,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16FK and now I want to upgrade the RAM in dual channel you can use a 1866MHz http://www.pccomponentes.com/g_skill...0_so_dimm.html or not supported or buy this http://www.pccomponentes.com/g_skill...b_so_dimm.html
, Who counsels me, sorry for my english I'm from Catalonia, thanks -

Your links are not working, but the A8 might not officially support 1866. You could try setting it in the unlocked bios.
-
Anyone tried playing the BF4 beta on his/her GX60? How did it run?
-
horrible, terrible etc
-
Here's one..Seems similar when running BF3 multiplayer..Let's see if the performance will improve when AMD Mantle is released on BF4 later of the year...Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
ok thanks, I will install 1600mhz ram memory.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You can still try running it at 1866mhz later

Hi ..
I've been considering the GX70 since ever .. but I'm still confused .. xD
Any word on Battlefield 3 - 4 , when running at a Resolution of 1366x763 or 1024x763 .. ?
Also .. how does it handle Assasin's Creed 3 at the same Resolution .. ?
--
We will have to wait for Mantle to be applied on Dec to see if it could make any changes in Battlefield 4 ..
but I still like the Idea of a FULL AMD system .. yet don't wanna make a Bad decision ..
Anyone .. ? I don't really mind playin' in HD or 1024 resolution though ...
thanks .. =) -
Why do you want to play at 720p? It is the worst scenario for this laptop. The bigger the resolution is, the better for your CPU as the GPU takes all the load.
-
^
What you are stating is indeed true .. Since the load will be heavy on the GPU and it would be the lower resource ..
But .. In this case I'm asking about specific game " battlefield 4 " and maybe Assassin's Creed 3 ..
The thing is .. I have a crappy notebook " very old weak 2nd gen i3 clocked at 2.00 , combined with 1GB of 5650m "
Lowering the resolution on both games gives a HUGE BOOST in performance ..
Not as much as an i7 would .. But still .. Mine jumps from 20 into 40 fps !!
With that being said .. There's no way ! my i3 could never compete with the AMD GPU ..
But how does that translate into the real world .. ?
About mantle .. I'm not quiet sure if the AMD mobile components would support it " hardware wise " so I'm not sure about that ..
I like everything about the GX70 .. Even gaming stats are amazing !
It just is battlefield and assassin's creed that bugs me .. So if they work fine at 1366 or even 1024 ..
It's more than enough to me and it's a sure buy .. =)
*thanks for the input .. -
Lowering the resolution with the GX70 doesn't usually have that effect of improving framerates because of the weak CPU. You're almost certainly going to have the same FPS at 1080p than at 720p (or maybe a small gain of 2-4 fps maximum) so that's why there's no point in lowering the resoution.
In any case, here you have a review and you can see what I'm telling you for yourself: Review MSI GX70H-A108972811B Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews -
That's disappointing ..
It's strange enough how the AMD is powerful spec's wise .. Yet an i3 scales better in real world's gaming scenarios ..
Will have to wait for mantle to make a final decision then ..
Do the other members have any thoughts .. ? -
The upper review depicts my opinion about the GX series - as a piece of **** idiotic money grab with pathetic performance.
-
You got yourself a GX70?
Wow, I feel sorry for your loss (of money).
The GX series from MSi is THE worst gaming notebook serie since a long time. -
Lisupoland, I think you have made your point well known with the GX series. I have been watching this thread for a while now and your trolling has no benefit to those trying to get the most out of their purchase AND has only shown your true colors. Your posts are coming off as an upset teenager's would.
I would like to thank you for making me a better person by providing an example of what I never want to be on forums.

Let me count the dams I give.
Nope, there are none.
We'll all get flooded soon enough. <chuckle>
O yea and by your logic -> this review is also childish (this site has already reviewed GX series, with bad final opinion) - GX70 http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-MSI-GX70H-A108972811B-Notebook.99516.0.html
Let me just paste their final verdict for you
"Verdict"
MSI GX70H-A108972811BMSI
Our review indicates that the GX70 cannot use its full potential. You cannot really call it a well-balanced system when a high-end graphics card loses about 50% performance because of the processor. Intel's Core i processors are significantly faster than the AMD A10-5750M, not even the fastest GPU can change that.
MSI should definitely reconsider this concept and use Intel processors. Combining a Radeon HD 8970M with such a weak processor does not really make sense in our opinion. A look at some games (Assassin's Creed III, Hitman: Absolution, Guild Wars 2) creates doubts that the device is really future-proof; even reduced graphics settings (high) do not result in playable frame rates because of the CPU. Nvidia's GTX 765M, for instance, does not have these problems in combination with an Intel quad-core CPU. You get advantages in some games at the expense of other current titles.
Otherwise MSI does a good job. Besides the port equipment and the battery runtime we have to praise the good picture and sound quality. Other positive aspects are the keyboard illumination, the Blu-ray drive and the large storage capacity (mSATA SSD & 1,000 GB HDD). The temperatures and the noise development are still reasonable and the large case with the bling-bling look is certainly a matter of taste.
All things considered, we cannot give a recommendation for the GX70. Passionate gamers should invest a few bucks more and get the GT70 or a competitor (see right column under Shortcut). Price-conscious gamers will be happy with an Intel notebook and a GeForce GTX 765M (constant performance, lower price)." -
^
Thanks for your concerns .. No , I didn't get a GX70 nor a GX60 ..
Therefore I'm still doing my own research and tryin' to find the best notebook suits my own needs ..
There's no notebook .. And I mean " NO NOTEBOOK AT ALL ! " can match the performance of the GX70 in the right conditions below 1500$ price tag ..And that applies to all the games I care about ..
Except the two games I've stated .. That's why I'm looping around the performance of 'em ..
I remember seeing gameplay of a GX60 with A10-5750m .. And it was GREAT with bf3 ..
Not like 70 fps .. ! But more like 40ish .. So it's a hit or miss .. It's still unclear to me .. That's why I'm askin' here ..
Overal , the GX70/GX60 are not bad on paper .. But for some reason ..
The CPU isn't Woking at it's best or as it should in games ..
But the thing that annoys me the most is .. How in the green earth could my i3 250m @2.0 GHZ scale much better in these 2 games !!
I've always seen the TOP gfx settings ,, so I wanna take a look of someone who " tried " lower resolution/gfx settings in these specific games .. =)
Thanks .. And sorry for disturbance .. -
BF3 is running nicely in single player campaign...but it's pretty bad when playing multiplayer...I would say GX series is still decent if you play predominantly single player games...
The game performance on notebookcheck is pretty much the worst case scenario...Far Cry 3 is running 30-40 fps on my machine with a mix of ultra, high and medium settings @ 1080p -
Stay away from GX60 and GX70, just get i7 + 765m if you wana game, but are on a budget.
-
I think GX series are good laptops if you're on a budget. It has one problem and that is the CPU. It doesn't matter in most games but there are a few where it bottlenecks massively the system. Some of them are Assassin's Creed 3 (this game is so bad that does it really matter?), Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, Battlefield 3 (only in 64 player matches), and some MMORPGs.
-
thanks for your time and follow-up guys ..
Guess It doesn't worth the risk .. would stick with i7 an' search for a better offers ..
thanks to everyone who had an input in this ..
Best regards .. -
I7 + 765m would give you good gaming performance, that is consistent. Medium/High settings with no stutters.
-
Okay now that we have that sorted lets get back to our GX60s
Two questions:
First has anyone tried out LeekM's fixed drivers http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...powerxpress-enduro-fix-drivers-13-10b-13.html (there's link for the "APU" version half way down which I assume is aimed at us... almost exclusively?)
Apparently some people see major improvements on other set ups at least.
Secondly: The reason I haven't tried (aside from the fiddling you have to do with Disable Driver Signature Enforcement TESTSIGNING boot configuration being a little beyond me), Is that after playing around with different Versions of Catalyst I firstly ran into problem of the 7970m being constantly activated (orange light and according to HWinfo64), I tried to fix it by uninstalling and running driver sweeper which led to a BSOD on multiple restarts... A system restore got windows running and surprisingly the graphics switching working fine but even though catalyst is installed every time I try run it I get a short load and nothing happens... Terrified to run driver sweeper again (?did it remove the cpu drivers as well or something?) and want a good reason to change drivers as this one is "working" ... just.
Again thanks everyone! -
at last. I got my degrees stabilized with new thermal paste Gelid GC Extreme. Its now ok and 3.7GHz OC seems to be stable. By far there is no way to OC it stable to more then 3.7 with my ES. One more time. Thanks j_kut for selling me that. It gives huge improvement. Thanks to one of the Polish mate I have graph to show for you.
it performs FPS, degrees, cpu usage and gpu utilization. It is while playing BF3 multiplayer on server 64 players, map caspian border with all setting on ultra without cpu smoothings. The resault managed on a stock windows 7. No patches etc.
OC of the CPU: 3.7GHz with 1.212V.
highwind85 likes this. -
How did you generate the graph?
-
it is from the log of HWInfo64 sensors and Fraps logged by HWInfo. Grpah is made by a user of Polish forum. I dont really know how did he did it. But it seems to be easy while having logs. you can manage it even by a ms excel.
-
LisuPoland, whatever you trolling here, for the price I do not know better gaming machine and I'm happy with it. Laptop $750 from Ebay, A8 Engineering Sample $165 from this site, old A10 sold for $83 on Ebay, thats altogether $832. Where is the problem?
-
Original price was 1200$, the only reason this thing can be gotten for less than 900$ now is because it turned out to be crap (that has a pricey 7970m inside).
Whoever designed this machine at MSi is a f*cking retard. -
Indeed.
They wanted something but it failed big time. -
I would not mind, if MSi would screw up simply because they couldn't know this would be a failure (but they could have easily detected severe bottlenecking issues, if only they ran some f*cking tests in their labs) and if they gave an official apology to those who got disappointed by GX series and feel mislead by the advertisement and hype (those cheeeeesy Batman promotinal videos of GX60 still give me the creeps).
But MSi simply does not only show lack of regard for GX users complains, but they know that their design is simply terrible and continue to repeat the same antrocity by releasing GX70.
MSi is lost in my departament, I will never buy anyhing again that is labeled with their logo. This is what capitalism is about - you don't give a damn about your customer, then the customer shows you the middle finger and goes to the competition. -
sorry for being extremely late to the party...
So...Kaveri is a no-go on the GX60? -
AMD is keeping mum on that...while the desktop kaveri will use a new socket, AMD did not say anything about mobile kaveri....so it's still anyone's guess...
-
99.3% no. Kaveri has different manufacturing process, different architecture CPU, GPU, that must be supported on hardware level.
-
Does this mean that we can overclock the 4600M? If so will an upgrade tot the A8-5550 ES needed then?
-
probably there is a way to run stable 4x3.2GHz on a trinity. Please try to set voltage 1.212V at 3.2GHz clock and check if it works. Anyway the multiplier is still locked. If you wanna clock it higher then you need to switch to richland and then if its still to low then ES
-
The old A10 only could do 3.2GHz Turbo on two cores for nano-seconds, so no way to lock there. And the 3.2GHz also not as fast from locked Richland A10 as with A8 Engenieering.
I'm testing the A8 now with 3.4GHz and temperatures are still good, now just the speedy memory modules have to arrive and MSI GX60 maxed out
.
davidricardo86 likes this. -
there were not possible to manage 4x3.2 cause there was too high voltage. try the value that I said. 1.212V it should work.
btw. what memory frequency did you order? 1866? -
The 2x4GB 1866MHz cl10 Crucial Ballistix coming, I think this is the fastest today. Hope it will do CL8 1600MHz. Thinking also which OS to use, have seen someone with win7 with crazy physics score with A8. And how about Vista?
Btw;
I still doubt the crappy A10 good for anything, I also tried working out that lazy processor. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I tried everything with the 4600m, it is locked tight.
-
-
Anyone seen this deal or tried to order it?
http://www.pro-star.com/index.cfm?mainpage=productdetail&model=GX60-3BE-240US
It's the standard gx60 layout, but according to their description/pics, it comes with the gt60 fully customizable keyboard. Not to mention the $50 rebate, $30 instant savings with purchase of any upgrade and two game vouchers. Starts at $1163 before mail in rebate.
I'm going to be doing casual gaming, but the games I play will be newer and I want them to run nice. Mainly entertainment (movies/music/internet), when not gaming. Is it worth the extra $300 for the GT version? I'm having a hard time justifying the price jump now, the keyboard was the main stickler on the gx60 before, but this version appears to have fixed that?
Also has the blu-ray, 7200rpm drive vs the standard drive and molasses drive in the GT -
Ill sell you my GX70 with 128GB SSD for that price!
-
You don't like it, or the price isn't that great in the link?
-
Well from reading the specs it is just a GX60... maybe I missed something
