It has the gt60/70 style keyboard and blu-ray drive. I'm going to call them tomorrow and make sure, puts this laptop at right around $225 less than the gt60 with the 770m.

GX60-3Be is the 2nd refresh that includes 8970m and color backlit keyboard....i would go for the 770m though if the price difference is just $225...too bad in other parts of the world, the difference is more like $500-600 (Australia)
MSI GT60 with 770m is $1900 in australia...

The 770m is a lot weaker but unless you plan on putting an es a8 cpu in there I would get the 770m and tweak it ;)

Well, I had my old tax return money and it was right about 1100, which got me the gx60 with a little left over. The 1400 was just flat out of my budget and I don't need a top flight gaming PC, as its mainly for multimedia. It won't bother me the Least bit if I have to run a game on medium/high.

770m option would be better, if paired with modern Intel CPU, 8970m in GX70 is useless because of A-10, so look at the real time performance, not just raw components of the notebook.

It's also out of my budget, it seems like you have a grudge against this computer, you've made that clear in this thread. It's perfectly adequate for my application, as I'm not coding video or competition gaming.

But, if you can, try to avoid a setup that is unbalanced (GX60 and GX70), it's better to go for components that are adjusted to each other in terms of performance.

Ironically LisaPoland is giving sound advice from all that I have read, and without the trolling too. An I7 would be more balanced if you can swing the extra cash, but we all have our money limits. Just be sure to read up on plenty impartial reviews before making your decision.

I've been getting by with a first gen i3 and no gpu, So this is an upgrade to say the least. I'm gonna run it through the ringer on arrival and if it doesn't hold up, I'll go with the gt.

I might bought my gx60 too fast, because these laptops going always for better and better price on Ebay. Only $620 and all it needs is an A8 Engineering for to be an awesome gaming machine. Please more of these in the future MSI :)!

Like I said, going to put it through the ringer when it comes in and if it's not up to snuff, I'll splurge on the gt60. I'm thinking that it's going to be just fine though, I don't play fps games on the computer... That's xbox territory. As long as I can run skyrim, metro and games of that sort at higher quality, then I'm all good. I'd love nothing more than to get the gt60 with the 680 etc. It's just out of my budget.

A8 ES certainly pulling out the GX60 from the deep and now for the price point is SuperB gamer, but do not forget that processor is not AMD's nor MSI's merit. They meant for us their, locked, crap A10 to suffer with.

Why are you implying that I am trolling? am I lying about this machine? or being sarcastic about it' shortcomings? All I say it blatant truth about how MSi doesn't know how to balance components.

To me it seems you want a $1000 machine to do $2k machine duties. I know what I'm buying and it should work for my application. Ill know in the first three days if it does or not, but the price is right. Especially with the rebate/freeship/cash discount.

Edit: My current laptop has a windows experience of 4.3, so to say this is an upgrade is the understatement of the year. I've been getting by with everything work related (even photoshop/IGIS stuff), obviously no gaming. So spending 1.5k+ on a laptop would be really overkill and I'd feel like I was wasting 1/2 the pc.

I don't like to play serious fps games really on the pc, that might change, but even so. I haven't seen one video/review where it hasn't been able to run all current games at medium-high settings and that's with fraps etc..

    5.9 cpu
5.9 ram (I upgraded to 8 gig, this thing came with 4)
    4.3 graphics
    5.2 gaming graphics
    5.9 primary hdd

Some people really dog this computer, like it can't even send e-mails. Which to me, is just asinine.

I have to agree with Yeep, with some fine tweaking this thing runs all my games just fine. Its a great price point to be able to play some wicked single player games, and still push 6 hours of battery life when you need it. Not to mention the illuminated keyboard is wicked, speakers rock and 2 years warranty sure why not.

I knew what I was getting into, people just didn't do enough research before buying it that is their own fault.

Not to derail this topic, but have been viewing some "leaked performance tests" of the Kaveri desktop variant, and it is looking very promising. Looks like the CPU performance is roughly in the same range as the i5 2500K, and the GPU is pushing out results just shy of the 7790. If this translates to the mobile chip, kind of looking forward to the next GX releases if they continue with the all AMD lineup. However, these benchmarks could be the result of some heavy AMD fan-fiction.

Source: AMDFX: Kaveri Benchmarks Revealed! AMD Kaveri's GPU is R5-N200

Mods feel free to move this if it is in the incorrect forum.

Hey, I'm curious what the reference values should be for the 4600m - has anyone had a bash at voltage/turbo locking that? Everyone on here seems to have the 5750m version

Same with BAR-EDIT - there were a few pages of discussion about that, but all aimed at the 5750m o_O

So maybe I am getting old.

I have a friend with a GX60 with Windows 8 and it has gotten infected with Malware that I have been so far unable to defeat.

We both agreed we hate Windows 8 so I start the motions to clean install Windows 7.... only to learn that I am unable to boot from USB or DVD (f11 menu)...

Am I missing something here? A google search has netted me a bunch of info about people bricking their laptops by flashing wrong BIOS and having other problems... and that's about it :(

You are shifting the goal posts now, the only reason why this lappy is now at this price is because of bad reviews and people selling them after a few months to upgrade to intel systems. If you look at the price that MSI were asking for these AMD systems when they first came onto the market then you see that they were actually overpriced. That is because you were paying for 40 -50% of top of the line gpu that you couldn't actually use due to bottlenecking.

If you look at these systems as MSI designed them to be used (out of the box without ES processors and warranty destroying tweaking), then you have weak and unbalanced systems. I respect what the community is doing here is tweaking these machines to get the most out of them, but manufacturers dont design them for that and do not expect or want the average user to do that either.

So....I was trying to get a dual boot of Ubuntu installed, switched to legacy in the UEFI firmware thinking I could easily switchback (Ubuntu install wasn't liking UEFI). Installed Ubuntu, tried fixing the grup or whatever it is for OS select since I can't seem to change much of anything in 'BigFoot Boot Agent' so I could select Win8 and try re-enabling UEFI from there, no luck and my Win8 64bit copy returns a GPT error when trying to install over a fresh partition (due to the firmware being in legacy mode). How can I get my firmware back to UEFI so I can at least use my old Win8 64bit partition again? :(

the backlit keyboard doasnt work on win7 with win8 EC. if you want to use windows 7 you need to reinstall all bioses and firmware to win7. But we are not sure if the switching colours on keyboard will work properly with win7 firmware.

It shouldnt matter which OS you use, as long as you flash the firmware and bios that used to be on it.
Are you shure you flashed the right firmware? There's one for backlight and one for no backlight.

you should flash this one: http://www.msi.com/service/download/firmware-21466.html

that's odd as there's no other firmware for the 3BE...did you flash it chossing "shutdown" and then unplugged the battery and AC for a minute before rebooting?

Maybe Mullrof is right and you need flash both the bios and ec again. dunno. :p

    edit

ohh the patch that was 4 days ago(62MB)? So I played. I didnt see any boost. On my ES at 3.7GHz I was still at 10-30fps. :( I was puzzled if there was more drops then before

Do you play with Mesh Quality on low? I remember that being CPU intensive setting in BF3. Weird that you saw no difference though, people are reporting huge gains with other CPUs

Im gonna download the beta myself tonight, running out of storage space though

Why do you push such a high clocks?
Try lower, my A8 best at 3.4GHz 1.14V and it is throttle free, performing very well. CPU temperature also very moderate with this frequency voltage combo

edit: Got in. With everything on High except Mesh Quality I'm averaging around 30-40fps with dips to 25 and spikes to 55. Usually sitting in the low 30s. If Mantle can get this to the low 40s I'd be happy

Man I'm hoping my little asus makes it until the new pc gets here, recently it's been pegged at 100%cpu usage while idling. I've cracked it open and nursed it back together so many times, it's ready to go out to that big field. Where it can run and play with other laptops... forever.
