It may technically work but 7200RPM HDD are not faster the SATA II speeds anyway, so you wouldn't get any speed increase.

and it seems like MSI discontinued GX60...GX Destroyer is a rebranded GX70...and R9 M290X has exactly the same specs as 8970m..

Hi guys, I just got a GX60-3BE edition after Christmas and am very new to the world of PC gaming- I just got rid of all the bloatware and installed the AMD Catalyst 12.13 drivers. I have been reading about the pending release of mantle, but other than that I have no clue on what 'overclocking' is or what drivers do (sorry for my incompetence). Can you guys advise on any other updates I should download in order to play games at maximum potential? Can you redirect me or help me out with what I can do?

Indeed, R9 M290X is the same GPU as 8970M but with BIOS and VGA driver update.

    Don't overclock anything.

    @Kevin
How do you think. Can we update bios at our 7970m to R9 with downclocked spec?

Can't, since R9 BIOS is a rename of 8970M, therefore it is incompatible with 7970M.

Hi I hope you can help me. I upgraded my windows to 8.1 now all of a sudden the apu performe much worst then on 8. Forinstance, my 3d mark score went down from 5300 to 4700 with the apu taking the hit. My dgpuscore stay the same on 7100 but not the apu score it went down a lot. Any idea what iscausing this?

Did you update the BIOS and EC to the latest version?
How about AMD mobility driver v13.12?

Definitely playable (30 FPS+) on high settings with shadows etc. set to low, even in crowded areas.

When I first got the laptop it was horrible but the patches seem to have helped massively.

Do you think it is worth it to upgrade to the 5750m from the 4600m?

From what I've seen it performs better in some games but worse in others compared to the 4600m which is odd. Was it a driver issue? Has it been fixed or is that just the case?

    Thanks

there is no way that 5750m perform worse. Thats OCed 4600m. If you have some moeny to throw away then its worth to upgrade

The difference will be just 10%, not worth the cash if you ask me, unless you can get A-10 5750m super cheap for like 75$, then buy it and sell your A-10 4600m for 40-50$

The only time 5750M might ever do worse is if CPU isn't the bottleneck in the first place. Even without locking it, it sits at 3.2GHz in most games, compared to 2.7GHz and often less in 4600M. 5750M turbo is better in general, and the chip never throttles unless you overclock an ES. I'd recommend buying one and then selling your 4600M online.

SC2 is as CPU bound as it gets, and the performance with the 5750M is much better

I tried crysis 3 and works great with the 7970M graphics with loads of 99% in most of scene

I would not say that, making some adjustments to the GX hardware and software we can reduce bottleneck, watch this video with gpu load of more than 90% in some scenes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awSGo3okA2Q

Like I said - on totally open areas the game will lag due to CPU bottleneck, the area in the video is pretty narrow and not fully open to the landscape.

    [EDIT]

At the last 10-15 sec of the video you can see that the cutscene moves to an open area like I said and utilization of the GPU starts to drop to 70%, then the video ends, but I assure you... it could have dropped later to as low as 45-50%.

I'm just saying that playing alone with dedicated graphics is a decrease of the bottleneck, not quite full but leave other video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eug1UD1ZrRk&feature=youtu.be

Hey guys, I'm playing BF4 on the 1AC edition without any locking/OCing and am trying to play multiplayer more smoothly. There are often times on the map where things get choppy, especially after levolution events have taken place and there's rubble all around.
I'm also running the game on the lowest graphical settings possible and this problem still persists. I'd really appreciate it if someone could advise me on how to improve my multiplayer, thanks.

check your 3dmark11 GPU scoore if it is ~6500 or above and if its true then thats only an error in displaying in GPU-Z
I cant check it cause my GPU-Z crushes but I think thats not possible

Ok here my 3DMark11 Score in Performance Mode:

    Stock GX60 with A10-5750M and 8970m
    P5135
    [IMG]

now with OC the CPU to 3,2GHz lock with BAR-Edit
    P5298
    [IMG]

and now with OC CPU and 8970m to 1028Mhz GPU Clock.
    P5597
    [IMG]

    Here 3DMark13 all stock.

and here OC CPU settings as above.
OC the GPU have no effect in 3DMark13, strange

    And BTW
All Programs show only PCIe 2.0 x8 with 5Gbit/s.
    I think MSI limit it.
Perhaps with unlocked Bios there can be changed in PCI Settings like this??

    ****** Edit******
I repaste the GPU and CPU.
    MSI use too much Paste!

I use Gelid Solutions GC-Extreme and my GPU Temp drop from 85c to 80c in Furmark.
CPU drop from 58c to 54c in Furmark,

    English Version ;)
Try out GPU-Z to find our which interface it is using. I can hardly imagine that PCI-E 2.0 x 8 is used in a MSI Gaming Laptop.
If it was PCI E 3.0 x 8 it is fine, because PCI E 2.0 x16 should be only a little bit faster. ( PCI Express )

I suppose that the performance problems are caused by the slow APU (CPU Part).
THe only way the problem can be improved is using Win 8 (as far as i heard it offers much more performance in bf4) or AMD Mantle, which is about to come ;)
